It was shown that the leaf epidermal cells were usually irregular or polygonal in shape. The patterns of anticlinal walls were straight, arched or undulate. The stomatal apparatus is anomocytic and exists in abaxial epidermis of all species, and in the adaxial epidermis of some species. Under SEM observation, the leaf epidermis was often striated, seldom nearly smooth, and often with flakes attached. Evidence from leaf epidermis serves as a criterion for distinguishing the subsections in sect. Meclatis (Spach) Tamura and in sect. Fruticella Tamura. The results also support that there are several separate evolutionary processes in the genus Clematis .展开更多

[Method] Effects of medium components and anti-browning agents on the survival and growth of shoot tips were investigated by using apical buds of IItciaceae plant Haierlian as experiment material and MS as basic medium. [Result] The results showed that apical buds at the early germination period in spring were the most suitable explants for tissue culture of IIIciaceae plant Haierlian. Sterilization with 0.1% HgCI2 for 6 min achieved the best effect, while conventional surface-sterilization with ethanol would affect the survival of explants. The optimal medium for primary culture was MS-D (with modifications in major elements and organic components) + anti-browning agents (equa~ volume) + 2.0 mg/L of 6-BA + 0.5 mg/L of NAA. The optimal subculture medi- um was MS-F (with modifications in inorganic and organic components) + anti-brown- ing agents (equal volume) + 2.0 mg/L of 6-BA + 0.1 mg/L of NAA. [Conclusion] This study laid the foundation for establishment of tissue culture and rapid propagation technology system for Haierlian.展开更多

Special values in research have ancient genera and species, which include representatives ofNymphaeaceae salisb, and trapaceae Dumort. families, 22 species, 6 varieties, 1 hybrid, 30 cultivars of which are presented in collection of garden in open and covered soil. For the first time in covered soil of two conservatories ecological modeling was conducted. Placement of plants is done in form of 5 models of artificial ecotopes, in 155 abatises. Four ecobiomorphological groups based on rhizome system were determined for Nymphaeaceae, among which conditionally-rhizome and conditionally-stolone are provided for the first time.展开更多

Here, we describe a new fossil species, Euryale yunnanensis sp. nov., from the late Miocene Zhaotong Basin in southwestern China on the basis of seed remains. Char- acteristics including an ellipsoidal to almost spherical shape, a smooth surface, a germination cap that covers the micro- pyle, the separation of the hilum and germination cap (mi- cropyle), elliptic testa surface cells with undulate margins and thickened cell walls collectively indicate a close affinity with the genus Euryale in Nymphaeaceae. Comparisons of seed morphology and anatomy demonstrate that the newly described fossil species differs from modem and other fossil species of Euryale and thus verify the assignment to a new fossil species. As the modem Euryale is an aquatic plant, preferably living in swamps and lakes with shallow and stable water, we hypothesize that a lake and/or swamp environment with shallow water was present near Shui- tangba in the Zhaotong Basin, where the Shuitangba homi- noid lived during the late Miocene. This inference is generally consistent with paleoenvironmental data extracted from avian, fish, frog, turtle and crocodile fossils, as well as from aquatic pollen. The fossil history suggests a compara- tively recent (Miocene) emergence of Euryale, which is roughly in agreement with the divergence time inferred from the molecular information.展开更多
