On the Meaning of the Number SEVEN in the Eastern and Western Culture

This paper interprets the connotation,denotation and the symbolic meaning of SEVEN from the perspective of semiotics.The number SEVEN means samsara,destiny,reincarnation,the ending and a brand new beginning,satisfaction after a lot of suffering in the East.While,in the West,besides these,it refers to the magic and holy power of the God,mystery,completeness and perfection,occult,happiness and luck.

Seven-day triple therapy is a better choice for Helicobacter pylori eradication in regions with low antibiotic resistance

AIM: To investigate whether 7-d triple therapies are still valid in populations with low levels of resistance.METHODS: A total of 1106 Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori)-positive patients were divided into three groups,each of which received one type of 7-d triple therapy. Therapeutic outcomes of the patients were assessed by the 13C-urea breath test at 8 wk after treatment. The susceptibility of H. pylori to antibiotics was determined by an agar-dilution method. Data analysis was performed by χ2 tests.RESULTS: The eradication rates in groups A,B and C were 90.71%(332/366),90.46%(313/346) and 90.87%(189/208),respectively(P = 0.986). The resistance rates were 8.91% for clarithromycin,14.78% for levofloxacin and 0% for amoxicillin. The eradication rate was significantly different between clarithromycin-and levofloxacin-resistant patients(P < 0.05) in group A. Patients whose treatment failed in group A also had a higher clarithromycin resistance rate than did successive patients(P = 0.034). However,levofloxacin resistance had no obvious influence on the eradication rate. Furthermore,three main antibiotics(clarithromycin,levofloxacin and amoxicillin) had lower DID(defined daily dose per 1000 inhabitants per day) in this city.CONCLUSION: Clarithromycin resistance is the main reason for the failure of 7-d triple therapy. In populations with low levels of resistance,a 7-d triple therapy is a viable choice. The choice of therapy should not be influenced by conditions in high antibiotic resistance regions.

Up-to-seven criteria for hepatocellular carcinoma liver transplantation:A single center analysis

AIM:To detect whether the up-to-seven should be used as inclusion criteria for liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma.METHODS:Between April 2002 and July 2008,220hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients who were diagnosed with HCC and underwent liver transplantation(LT)at our liver transplantation center were included.These patients were divided into three groups according to the characteristics of their tumors(tumor diameter,tumor number):the Milan criteria group(Group 1),the in up-to-seven group(Group 2)and the out up-toseven group(Group 3).Then,we compared long-term survival and tumor recurrence of these three groups.RESULTS:The baseline characteristics of transplant recipients were comparable among these three groups,except for the type of liver graft(deceased donor liver transplant or live donor liver transplantation).There were also no significant differences in the pre-operativeα-fetoprotein level.The 1-,3-,and 5-year overall survival and tumor-free survival rate for the Milan criteriagroup were 94.8%,91.4%,89.7%and 91.4%,86.2%,and 86.2%respectively;in the up-to-seven criteria group,these rates were 87.8%,77.8%,and 76.6%and 85.6%,75.6%,and 75.6%respectively(P<0.05).However,the advanced HCC patients’(in the group out of up-to-seven criteria)overall and tumor-free survival rates were much lower,at 75%,53.3%,and 50%and65.8%,42.5%,and 41.7%,respectively(P<0.01).CONCLUSION:Considering that patients in the up-toseven criteria group exhibited a considerable but lower survival rate compared with the Milan criteria group,the up-to-seven criteria should be used carefully and selectively.

Supercontinuum generation in seven-core photonic crystal fiber pumped by a broadband picosecond pulsed fiber amplifier

We report a supercontinuum source generated in seven-core photonic crystal fibers（PCFs） pumped by a self-made all-fiber picosecond pulsed broadband fiber amplifier. The amplifier＇s output average power is 60 W at 1150 nm with spectral width of 260 nm, and its repetition rate is 8.47 MHz with pulse width of 221 ps. With two different lengths of seven-core PCF, different output powers and spectra are obtained. When a 10 m long seven-core PCF is chosen, the output supercontinuum covers the wavelength range from 620 nm to 1700 nm, with the output power of 11.7 W. With only 2 m long seven-core PCF used in the same experiment, the wavelength of the supercontinuum spans from 680 nm to 1700 nm,with the output power of 20.4 W. The results show that the pulse width is 385 ps in the 10 m long seven-core PCF and 255 ps in the 2 m long one, respectively, due to the normal dispersion of the PCF.

Synthesis and Crystal Structure of a Seven-coordinate Cadmium(Ⅱ) Complex

The reaction of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (H2L),4, 4-diaminodiphenylmethane (DADPM) and Cd(NO3)2?H2O in methane/water gave rise to a seven-coordinate Cd(Ⅱ) complex [Cd2(HL)4(H2O)6]?H2O which has been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The complex crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group Pna21 with unit cell parameters: a = 10.3352(3), b = 12.0481(3), c = 28.2016(1) ? V = 3511.65(13) 3, Z = 4, C28H36Cd2O20, Mr = 917.37, Dc = 1.735 g/cm3, F(000) = 1840, (MoK? = 1.29mm-1. The final R and wR are 0.0536 and 0.1086 for 4898 observed reflections with I ≥ 4(I). The Cd(Ⅱ) is seven-coordinated in a distorted pentagonal bipyramidal geometry. The inter-molecular hydrogen bonds lead to the formation of a two-dimensional layer structure.

Improving the Construction Industry Quality Using the Seven Basic Quality Control Tools

The organizations used quality tools to develop their processes and gain satisfaction from the customers. The main objective of this study is to develop levels of quality in the construction industry through the use of the seven basic quality control tools. Such tools are extremely crucial tools which are used worldwide in the industries for continual improvement. The seven basic quality tools are Check Sheet, Histogram, Pareto Chart, Fishbone Diagram, Control Chart, Flowchart and Scatter Diagram. They were implemented in various steps of the process in order to define the problems, measure its impacts, find out its root causes and solve these problems to ensure the production of non-defective items. The study shows how the seven basic tools of quality are very useful and effective in identifying and removal of defects from the manufacturing process. These tools are helpful in every stage of the defect removal process. This study was conducted on Cleopatra Group Company. This company succeeded to serve the public and private projects in the Egyptian construction sectors.

Study on the Effects of Extreme Precipitation for Seven Growth Stages of Winter Wheat in Northern Weihe Loess Plateau, China

The research on the characteristic frequency of precipitation is a great significance for guiding regional agricultural planning, water conservancy project designs, and drought and flood control. Droughts and floods occurred in northern Weihe Loess Plateau, affecting growing and yield of winter wheat in the area. Based on the daily precipitation data of 29 meteorological stations from 1981 to 2012, this study is to address the analysis of three different frequencies of annual precipitation at 5%, 50%, and 95%, and to determine the amount of rainfall excess and water shortage during seven growth stages of winter wheat at 5%, 10%, and 20% frequencies, respectively. Pearson type III curve was selected for this study to analyze the distribution frequency of annual rainfall and rainfall amount following seven growth stages of winter wheat crop in 29 stations of Northern Weihe loess plateau. As a result of our study, annual precipitation is gradually increasing from southwest to northeast of Northern Weihe loess plateau. The highest amount of annual precipitation occurred in the Baoji area and the lowest precipitation covered by the northwest area of Northern Weihe loess plateau. Moreover, the amount of rainfall of seven growth stages indicates that excessive rainfall occurs not only in the first stage (sowing to tillering) and seventh stage (flowering to ripening) but also in second stage (tillering to wintering). In the seventh stage, a large amount of excessive rainfall occurred in Changwu, Bin, Qianyang, Fengxiang, Baojiqu, and Baojixian. Moreover, water shortage is distributed in the third stage (from wintering to greening), the fourth stage (from greening to jointing), the fifth stage (from jointing to heading), and the sixth stage (from heading to flowering). Furthermore, the worst water shortages occurred in Hancheng, Heyang, Chengcheng, Pucheng, Dali, Tongchuan, and Fuping in the fourth stage (greening to jointing stage). Even though we study the crop water requirement under extreme rainfall conditions, the amount of rainwater still supply inadequate in some parts of the winter wheat growth stage. Therefore, this study provides main clues for the next step to study the irrigation water needs of winter wheat crops and to reduce agricultural risks in 29 counties in the northern loess plateau and other regions.

The E3 ubiquitin ligase seven in absentia homolog 1 may be a potential new therapeutic target for Parkinson's disease

In this study, we investigated the effect of an antibody against E3 ubiquitin ligase seven in absentia homolog 1（SIAH-1） in PC12 cells. 1-Methyl-4-phenylpyridinium（MPP＋） treatment increased α-synuclein, E1 and SIAH-1 protein levels in PC12 cells, and it reduced cell viability; however, there was no significant change in light chain 3 expression. Treatment with an SIAH-1 antibody decreased m RNA expression levels of α-synuclein, light chain 3 and SIAH-1, but increased E1 m RNA expression. It also increased cell viability. Combined treatment with MPP＋ and rapamycin reduced SIAH-1 and α-synuclein levels. Treatment with SIAH-1 antibody alone diminished α-synuclein immunoreactivity in PC12 cells, and reduced the colocalization of α-synuclein and light chain 3. These findings suggest that the SIAH-1 antibody reduces the monoubiquitination and aggregation of α-synuclein, promoting its degradation by the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway. Consequently, SIAH-1 may be a potential new therapeutic target for Parkinson’s disease.

中药有效成分结合骨组织工程材料用于骨修复

背景:如何修复骨缺损一直以来是临床难题,中药有效成分在骨修复方面具有良好的生物活性与治疗效果,将中药有效成分与组织工程材料相结合在骨修复领域具有广阔的前景。不同中药有效成分与支架的组合在作用关系方面具有相似之处。目的:搜集常见的中药有效成分与支架材料组合的案例,基于七情配伍的启发将组织工程支架与中药有效成分类比为产生配伍关系的两类中药,以二者的作用关系为纲进行归纳总结。方法:检索1998年1月至2024年1月Pub Med和中国知网数据库中发表的相关文献,英文检索词:“traditional Chinese medicine,Chinese medicine,traditional Chinese medicine monomers,bone defect,bone repair,bone tissue engineering,tissue engineering,scaffold”,中文检索词:“中药,中药有效成分,中药单体,骨组织工程,骨组织工程支架,支架,组织工程,骨缺损,骨修复”,最终纳入88篇文献进行综述分析。结果与结论:(1)组织工程支架材料与中药有效成分各自均在骨修复领域有广泛的运用,二者在成骨方面优势明显但仍有许多缺陷,许多研究致力于将二者制备成复合材料,希望通过二者间的相互作用发挥减毒增效作用。(2)一些药物与材料在成骨、抗菌、促血管生成方面能互相促进,增强原有的效果,受到传统方剂配伍观念的启发,文章将其归纳为“相须”关系,并举实例佐证。(3)一些药物能提高材料的强度,而某些材料能对负载于其上的药物实现缓释控释效果、增加载药量与稳定性,或是进行靶向递送,文章将这种单方面的提升效果归纳为“相使”关系。(4)一些中药与材料搭配使用能减少对方的毒副反应,文章将这种减毒关系归纳为“相畏相杀”。(5)文章得出了一个由七情配伍关系启发、基于作用关系分类的关于中药复合支架的全新视角,将中药传统观念引入组织工程领域,为后续复合支架的研究者提供新的研究思路,并在选材搭配方面提供一定的便利。

Clinical Research on Intelligence Seven Needle Therapy Treated Infants with Brain Damage Syndrome

Objective： To assess whether the intelligence seven needle therapy administered in infants with perinatal brain damage syndrome （BDS） as early intervention would improve patients＇ neural development. Methods： A randomized controlled trial was conducted. Sixty-four infants with BDS were randomly assigned to two groups： the comprehensive group and the control group. Both groups received routine early intervention; in addition, the comprehensive group received intelligence seven needle therapy. Before and after treatment, the Bayley Scale of Infant Development （BSID）, Gesell Developmental Schedules, Gross Motor Function Measure （GMFM）, transcranial doppler ultrasound （TCD）, and cranial imaging examination were tested for contrast. Results： After treatment, the comprehensive group showed significant difference in the Mental Development Index （MDI） scores of BSID compared with the control group （P〈0.05）, however, no significant discrepancy in psychomotor development index （PDI, P〉0.05） was observed. The children＇s development quotients （DQ） of the comprehensive group exhibited a significant superiority in improving the social adaptation DQ of Gesell Developmental Schedules compared with the control group （P〈0.01）, as well as GMFM and linguistic and social intercourse （P〈0.05）. Again, no discrepancy in the fine movement DQ was found （P〉0.05）. The total scores of GMFM in the comprehensive group were higher than those in the control group （P〈0.05）. Comparing the two groups, the comprehensive group showed a significantly greater recovery rate than the control group on TCD after treatment （P〈0.05）. After 6-month follow-up, some recovery in both groups, specifically on broadening of brain outside space by cranial imaging examination were observed. The comprehensive group demonstrated a significantly greater recovery rate than the control group （P〈0.05）. Conclusion： The developmental level of intelligence, motion function, linguistic competence and social intercourse can be promoted for infants with perinatal BDS by treating with the intelligence seven needle therapy. This approach can improve the brain blood supply and promote the growth of frontal and parietal lobes.

Seven-core photonic liquid crystal fibers for simultaneous mode shaping and temperature sensing

Through doping liquid crystals into the core region, we propose a kind of seven-core photonic crystal fiber（PCF）which can achieve mode shaping and temperature sensing simultaneously in the communication window of1.1–1.7 μm. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that the function of seven-core PCFs as temperature sensors is investigated. By using the full vectorial finite element method, the characteristics of the fiber with the temperature, such as the effective mode area, the waveguide dispersion, and the confinement loss, are analyzed. This kind of PCF can be competitive in providing temperature sensing in multi-core PCF lasers.
