OBJECTIVE: To examine the efficacy o...BACKGROUND: The transcription factor Oligl is required for oligodendrocyte maturation and demyelinated lesion repair, and is a key regulator of myelinogenesis following ischemia. OBJECTIVE: To examine the efficacy of intraventricular injection of a recombinant adenovirus-expressing Oligl gene (Ad5-Oligl-eGFP) on oligodendrocyte maturation and myelin repair following focal cerebral ischemia. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A randomized, controlled, animal experiment was performed at the Department of Neurology, Beijing Friendship Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University from January 2007 to March 2008. MATERIALS: Adenovirus and a recombinant adenovirus containing Oiigl gene (Ad5-Oligl) were provided by Vector Gene Technology, China. METHODS: All 50 rats were induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion. A total of 46 rats were successfully induced and were subsequently randomly assigned to a adenovirus (Ad5) group and recombinant adenovirus-expression Oligl gene (Ad5-Oligl) group, with 23 rats per group. One day after middle cerebral artery occlusion, either Ad5-Oligl-eGFP or Ad5-eGFP (10 μL, 2.3 ×10^11/mL) was injected into the lateral ventricle on the ischemic hemisphere. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Adenovirus-mediated Oligl gene expression in vitro and in vivo was measured by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and immunofluorescence, respectively. Myelin basic protein (MBP) levels were evaluated by Western Blot, immunostaining, and electron microscopy. RESULTS: Exogenous Oligl expression was measured at the periventricular zone of the lateral ventricle 1 day after Ad5-Oligl injection. In the Ad5-Oligl-treated group, MBP protein levels and average intensity of MBP-immunoreactivity (-ir) increased 28 days after middle cerebral artery occlusion, compared with the control group (P 〈 0.01, P 〈 0.05). Furthermore, myelinated axonal numbers markedly increased following Ad5-Oligl treatment. CONCLUSION: The present data suggested that Ad5-Oligl gene therapy increased MBP expression and the number of remyelinating axons following cerebral ischemia.展开更多

A nonsense mutation from C to T on locus 6431 in exon 3B of the antithrombin gene was observed, leading to an arginine (CGA) to stop codon (TGA) change in the protein. This is the first report of this mutation in China. Ineffective heparin therapy in the propositus patient is associated with a lack of heparin binding sites after antithrombin gene mutation. Characteristic low intracranial pressure in the acute phase might be specific to this patient with cerebral venous sinus thrombosis.展开更多
Aims to investigate the performance of the pilot-scale reclamation plant for coal gasification wastewater( CGW) using ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis with appropriate pretreatment alternatives,different pre-treatm...Aims to investigate the performance of the pilot-scale reclamation plant for coal gasification wastewater( CGW) using ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis with appropriate pretreatment alternatives,different pre-treatment alternatives- coagulation,adsorption,and ozonation methods were employed to treat the secondary effluent of coal gasification wastewater( SECGW) in a pilot-scale pressurized membrane system. The performance was compared to choose the most suitable pre-treatment alternative for the SECGW reclamation.Ozone reaction achieved highest COD removal efficiency( 79.6%- 91.0%),resulting in the stable normalized parameters of the subsequent ultrafiltration and reverse osmoses. In contrast,the coagulation and adsorption processes achieved only 32. 8%- 45. 7% and 53. 1%- 64. 6% decreases in COD,respectively. The residual organic pollutants in the reverse osmosis feed water led to an increase in normalized pressure drop and a decrease in normalized permeability( or membrane transference coefficient). The hydrophobic fraction was the main constituent( approx. 70% of DOC) in pretreated SECGW, and the hydrophobic-neutral fraction contributed mostly to the UV absorbance( 53%). Fluorescence excitation emission matrices revealed that ozonation removed most of the hydrophobic and aromatic proteins such as tyrosine and tryptophan which dominated in raw wastewater. The recalcitrant compounds such as phenolic compounds, heterocyclic compounds,especially long-chain hydrocarbons,which were easily attached to the membrane surface and contributed to organic fouling,could be oxidized and mineralized by ozone. Among the three pretreatments,ozonation showed highest removal efficiencies of hydrophobic and aromatic proteins,therefore resulting in highest normalized permeability.展开更多
Sonoluminescence is more distinctly observed in phosphoric and sulfuric acid,which exhibit high viscosity and lower vapor pressures relative to water.Within an 85-wt%phosphoric acid solution saturated with argon(Ar),v...Sonoluminescence is more distinctly observed in phosphoric and sulfuric acid,which exhibit high viscosity and lower vapor pressures relative to water.Within an 85-wt%phosphoric acid solution saturated with argon(Ar),variations in the light-emitting regimes of bubbles were noted to correspond with increments in the driving acoustic intensity.Specifically,the bubbles were observed to perform a dance-like motion 2 cm below the multi-bubble sonoluminescence(MBSL)cluster,traversing a 25-mm^(2) grid during the camera exposure period.Spectral analysis conducted at the beginning of the experiment showed a gradual attenuation of CN(B^(2)Σ–X^(2)Σ)emission concurrent with a strengthening of Ar(4p–4s)atom emission lines.The application of a theoretical temperature model to the spectral data revealed that the internal temperature of the bubbles escalates swiftly upon their implosion.This study is instrumental in advancing the comprehension of the underlying mechanisms of sonoluminescence and in the formulation of a dynamic model for the behavior of the bubbles.展开更多

Results showed that NHCs with initial concentration of 50 mg/L could be completely degraded within 60 hr. The degradation of five NHCs was dependent upon the chemical structures with the following sequence:imidazole 〉 pyridine 〉 indole 〉 quinoline 〉 carbazole in terms of their degradation rates.Quantitative structure-biodegradability relationship studies of the five NHCs showed that the anoxic degradation rates were correlated well with highest occupied molecular orbital.Additionally, the active sites of NHCs identified by calculation were confirmed by analysis of intermediates using gas chromatography and mass spectrometry.展开更多
In this study,we investigate the relay selection(RS)problem in full-duplex energy-harvesting(FDEH)relay networks,where the relays are wirelessly powered by harvesting a portion of the received signal power from the so...In this study,we investigate the relay selection(RS)problem in full-duplex energy-harvesting(FDEH)relay networks,where the relays are wirelessly powered by harvesting a portion of the received signal power from the source.We extend the investigation of the relay selection problem in FDEH relay networks to enable multiple relays to be selected simultaneously for improved performance.This is in contrast with existing studies on RS in similar setups,where only one relay can be selected in a transmission cycle.Our simulations show that selecting only a single relay is not always optimal,especially at low signal-to-noise ratios(SNRs).Furthermore,in this paper,we present the design of a greedy RS method with quadratic complexity for FDEH relay networks.Compared with the exhaustive-search-based RS,the proposed greedy RS achieves near-optimum performance in terms of the end-to-end capacity with significantly reduced complexity.展开更多
For critical infrastructure restoration planning,the real-time scheduling and coordination of system restoration efforts,the key in decision-making is to prioritize those critical components that are out of service du...For critical infrastructure restoration planning,the real-time scheduling and coordination of system restoration efforts,the key in decision-making is to prioritize those critical components that are out of service during the restoration.For this purpose,there is a need for component importance analysis.While it has been investigated extensively for individual systems,component importance considering interdependence among transmission,distribution and communication(T&D&C)systems has not been systematically analyzed and widely adopted.In this study,we propose a component importance assessment method in the context of interdependence between T&D&C networks.Analytic methods for multilayer networks and a set of metrics have been applied for assessing the component importance and interdependence between T&D&C networks based on their physical characteristics.The proposed methodology is further validated with integrated synthetic Illinois regional transmission,distribution,and communication(T&D&C)systems,the results reveal the unique characteristics of component/node importance,which may be strongly affected by the network topology and cross-domain node mapping.展开更多
To address complex work conditions incredibly challenging to the stability of power line inspection robots,we design a walking mechanism and propose a variable universe fuzzy control(VUFC)method based on multi‐work c...To address complex work conditions incredibly challenging to the stability of power line inspection robots,we design a walking mechanism and propose a variable universe fuzzy control(VUFC)method based on multi‐work conditions for flying‐walking power line inspection robots(FPLIRs).The contributions of this paper are as follows:(1)A flexible pressing component is designed to improve the adaptability of the FPLIR to the ground line slope.(2)The influence of multi‐work conditions on the FPLIR's walking stability is quantified using three condition parameters(i.e.,slope,slipping degree and swing angle),and their measurement methods are proposed.(3)The VUFC method based on the condition parameters is proposed to improve the walking stability of the FPLIR.Finally,the effect of the VUFC method on walking stability of the FPLIR is teste.The experimental results show that the maximum climbing angle of the FPLIR reaches 29.1°.Compared with the constant pressing force of 30 N,the average value of slipping degree is 0.93°,increasing by 35%.The maximum and average values of robot's swing angle are reduced by 46%and 54%,respectively.By comparing with fuzzy control,the VUFC can provide a more reasonable pressing force while maintaining the walking stability of the FPLIR.The proposed walking mechanism and the VUFC method significantly improve the stability of the FPLIR,providing a reference for structural designs and stability controls of inspection robots.展开更多
