Krill oil(KO)exhibits various biological activities,such as anti-inflammatory and antitumor effects.However,the inhibitory effects of benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)in vitro and in vivo have not yet been studied.This study investigated the anti-BPH effects of KO extracted by an enzymatic hydrolysis method.KO treatment inhibited the proliferation of WMPY-1 and BPH-1 cells by induction of G0/G1 phase arrest through the modulation of positive and negative regulators in both prostate cell types.KO treatment stimulated phosphorylation of c-Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK)and p38 signaling.In addition,KO changed the expression of BPH-related markers(5α-reductase,androgen receptor,FGF,Bcl-2,and Bax)and the activity of the proliferation-mediated NF-κB binding motif.KO-induced levels of proliferation-mediated molecules of prostate cells were attenuated in the presence of siRNA-specific p-38(si-p38)and JNK(si-JNK).Furthermore,the administration of KO alleviated prostate size and weight and the cell layer thickness of prostate glands in a testosterone enanthate-induced BPH rat model.KO treatment altered the level of dihydrotestosterone in serum and the expression levels of BPH-related markers in prostate tissues.Finally,KO-mediated inhibition of prostatic growth was validated by histological analysis.These results suggest that KO has an inhibitory effect on BPH in prostate cells in vitro and in vivo.Thus,KO might be a potential prophylactic or therapeutic agent for patients with BPH. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Porocarcinoma is a rare type of skin cancer that originates from sweat gland tumors.It is an aggressive malignant skin cancer that is difficult to diagnose clinically owing to its rarity and similarity to squamous cell carcinoma(SCC).CASE SUMMARY This case involved a 92-year-old woman,a farmer by profession,presented with an exophytic and verrucous mass on her left palm that had formed 2 years prior and caused chronic pain and frequent bleeding.Initially,the patient was diagnosed with SCC using a punch biopsy;however,a repeat biopsy with addi-tional immunohistochemical tests was performed for porocarcinoma.Ultimately,the patient was diagnosed with porocarcinoma and reconstruction was planned using a full-thickness skin graft.After treatment,the range of motion of the palm was preserved,and the aesthetic outcome was favorable.At 6 mo of follow-up,the patient was satisfied with the outcome.CONCLUSION Porocarcinoma is commonly misdiagnosed as SCC;therefore,clinicians should consider porocarcinomas when evaluating mass-like lesions on the hands. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Various surgical techniques have been developed to enhance the nose shapes of Asian patients.Silicone implant augmentation rhinoplasty is widely used because it is relatively easy to perform and often yields satisfactory outcomes.However,this technique may lead to complications,including ischemia,necrosis,and over-augmentation.The most appropriate management of these complications,including infection,is immediate implant removal and revision surgery once the accompanying inflammation has healed.Occasionally,the patient may experience distress from nasal deformities during the intervention period.CASE SUMMARY Herein,we describe the case of a patient who underwent a secondary dorsal augmentation,with a folded dermofat graft harvested from the inguinal area and simultaneous implant removal,successfully preventing dimpling of the nasal deformity.CONCLUSION This surgical method can effectively manage implant-related complications following augmentation rhinoplasty using a silicone implant and provide satis-factory patient outcomes. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Musculoskeletal nontuberculous Mycobacterium(NTM)infections are rare,partic-ularly post-acupuncture therapy,and present diagnostic challenges due to their infrequency and potential severity.Prompt recognition and appropriate manage-ment are crucial for optimal outcomes.NTM-infected wounds involving the joints are difficult to treat,and only a few cases have been reported.CASE SUMMARY We present a case of a chronic intractable NTM-infected wound on the elbow joint that completely healed with conservative wound care and antibiotic treatment.An 81-year-old woman presented with a chronic,ulcerative wound on the right elbow joint where she had undergone repeated acupuncture therapy for chronic intolerable pain.Magnetic resonance imaging revealed synovial thickening,effusion,and subcutaneous cystic lesions.An orthopedic surgeon performed open synovectomy and serial debridement.However,1 month postoperatively,the wound had not healed and became chronic.A wound culture revealed NTM(Mycobacterium abscessus),and the patient was referred to the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.Instead of surgical intervention,conservative wound care with intravenous antibiotics was provided,considering the wound status and the patient’s poor general condition.Complete wound healing was achieved in 12 months,with no impact on the range of motion of the elbow joint.CONCLUSION With clinical awareness,musculoskeletal NTM infection can be treated with conservative wound care and appropriate antimicrobial agents. 展开更多

Video prediction is the problem of generating future frames by exploiting the spatiotemporal correlation from the past frame sequence.It is one of the crucial issues in computer vision and has many real-world applications,mainly focused on predicting future scenarios to avoid undesirable outcomes.However,modeling future image content and object is challenging due to the dynamic evolution and complexity of the scene,such as occlusions,camera movements,delay and illumination.Direct frame synthesis or optical-flow estimation are common approaches used by researchers.However,researchers mainly focused on video prediction using one of the approaches.Both methods have limitations,such as direct frame synthesis,usually face blurry prediction due to complex pixel distributions in the scene,and optical-flow estimation,usually produce artifacts due to large object displacements or obstructions in the clip.In this paper,we constructed a deep neural network Frame Prediction Network(FPNet-OF)with multiplebranch inputs(optical flow and original frame)to predict the future video frame by adaptively fusing the future object-motion with the future frame generator.The key idea is to jointly optimize direct RGB frame synthesis and dense optical flow estimation to generate a superior video prediction network.Using various real-world datasets,we experimentally verify that our proposed framework can produce high-level video frame compared to other state-ofthe-art framework. 展开更多

An Efficient Scheduling Scheme for Fronthaul Load Reduction in Fog Radio Access Networks

Fog radio access network(F-RAN) is one of the key technology that brings cloud computing benefit to the future of wireless communications for handling massive access and high volume of data traffic. The high fronthaul burden of a typical cellular system can be partially diminished by utilizing the storage and signal processing capabilities of the F-RANs, which is still not desirable as user throughput requirement is in the increasing trend with the increment of the internet of things(IoT) devices. This paper proposes an efficient scheduling scheme that minimizes the fronthaul load of F-RAN system optimally to improve user experience, and minimize latency. The scheduling scheme is modeled in a way that the scheduler which provides the lower fronthaul load while fulfilling the minimum user throughput requirement is selected for the data transmission process. Simulation results in terms of user selection fairness, outage probability, and fronthaul load for a different portion of user equipments(UEs) contents in fog access point(F-AP) are shown and compared with the most common scheduling scheme such as round robin(RR) scheme to validate the proposed method. 展开更多

Cell Wall Characteristics of a Maize Mutant Selected for Decreased Ferulates

The cross-linked nature of plant cell walls provides structural integrity for continued growth and development, but limits degradation and utilization by ruminants. In grasses a major cross-linking component is ferulic acid that is incorporated into cell walls as an ester linked residue on arabinoxylans. Ferulates can become coupled to each other and to lignin forming a highly cross-linked matrix of carbohydrates and lignin. Seedling ferulate ester mutants (sfe) were produced in maize using the transposon system and evaluated in feeding trials. The work described here was undertaken to characterize changes in the ferulate cross-linked nature as well as other components of the corn cell wall matrix in leaf, sheath and stem tissues. Total ferulates decreased modestly due to the mutation and were more apparent in leaf tissue (16% - 18%) compared to sheath (+5 to?-6% change) and stem (8% - 9% decrease). The most significant changes were in the ether linked ferulates to lignin, both monomer and dehydrodiferulates (14% to 38% decrease). Other characteristics of the cell wall (lignin, neutral sugar composition) also showed modest changes. The change in total ferulates was modest, but led to improved animal performance. These findings suggest that relatively small changes can have a significant impact upon how well plant materials can be broken down and utilized by ruminants such as dairy cows. 展开更多

Supermicrosurgical reconstruction of knee defect using superior medial genicular perforator as a recipient vessel

A 24-year-old male presented after being involved in a motorcycle accident and was found to have soft tissue defects of the knee with exposure of patella.Due to the severe injury from the popliteal fossa to the posterior aspects of the lower leg,repair with a free flap from anterolateral thigh perforator was planned instead of local calf muscle flap.Preoperative angiography was performed,and it showed that superior medial genicular perforator was patent compared with unreliable filling of the superior lateral genicular perforator.The soft tissue defect was repaired using the superior medial genicular perforator as the recipient vessel.This was performed by creating perforator to perforator anastomosis(supermicrosurgery).The flap survived successfully,and the patient was able to ambulate in a few weeks without serious complications.This case indicates that superior medial genicular perforator can be used as the recipient vessel for covering the soft tissue defects of the knee caused by blunt injury. 展开更多
