Automatic segmentation of bacteria from spu-tum smear images is important for improving diagnostic efficiency. However, this remains a challenging task owing to the high interclass similarity among different categories of bacteria and the low contrast of the bacterial edges. To explore more levels of global pattern features to promote the distinguishing ability of bacterial categories and main-tain sufficient local fine-grained features to ensure accurate localization of ambiguous bacteria simultaneously, we propose a novel dual-branch deformable cross-attention fusion network (DB-DCAFN) for accurate bacterial segmen-tation. Specifically, we first designed a dual-branch encoder consisting of multiple convolution and transformer blocks in parallel to simultaneously extract multilevel local and global features. We then designed a sparse and deformable cross-attention module to capture the semantic dependencies between local and global features, which can bridge the semantic gap and fuse features effectively. Furthermore, we designed a feature assignment fusion module to enhance meaningful features using an adaptive feature weighting strategy to obtain more accurate segmentation. We conducted extensive experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of DB-DCAFN on a clinical dataset comprising three bacterial categories: Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The experi-mental results demonstrate that the proposed DB-DCAFN outperforms other state-of-the-art methods and is effective at segmenting bacteria from sputum smear images.展开更多
Absorption cooling technology is an environmentally friendly method to generate continuous chilled water making use of multiple thermal sources,such as waste heat and renewable thermal energy.In this study,two absorpt...Absorption cooling technology is an environmentally friendly method to generate continuous chilled water making use of multiple thermal sources,such as waste heat and renewable thermal energy.In this study,two absorption chillers(nominal capacity of 400 kW)with series and parallel connections are evaluated.To research the ideal configuration of chillers after thermodynamic analysis,the structures of the chillers are optimized using the particle swarm optimization algorithm by considering the heat transfer area(HTA),exergy efficiency and total annual cost as single-objective functions.The impact of temperature differences between external and internal flows,heat exchanger efficiencies and the solution allocation ratio is estimated.The optimized HTA,coefficient of perform-ance,exergy efficiency and total annual cost are 149.0 m^(2),1.56,29.44%and$229119 for the series-connected chiller,and 146.7 m^(2),1.59,31.45%and$234562 for the parallel-connected type,respectively.Under the lowest HTA condition,compared with the reference simulation results,the energy and exergy performances are improved,while the annual total cost is higher.The annual total cost is highest when maximizing the exergy efficiency,which is attributed to the increase in the HTA.The operating cost accounts for 27.42%(series type)and 26.54%(parallel type)when the annual cost is the lowest.展开更多

For instance, ethnomedicines of Chinese ethnic minorities constitute an important part of traditional medicines. In our study, we firstly clarified the concept of ethnomedicines and the connotations of ethnopharmacology. The particularity of ethnomedicine research were then summed up, and the development profiles of the ethnomedicines of Chinese ethnic minorities were discussed by investigating the current status and existing problems. On this basis, we abstracted the innovative development path of ethnomedicines for the first time, which was found to follows:resource study -, standardized development research -~ industrialization of the achievements and efforts for internationalization. We found that platform establishment and team training are keys to achieving innovative development. Hence, this study provided a basis for ethnomedicine development.展开更多

Its economic benefit can be used to optimize and promote the hardware and software of the platform, as well as support the sustainable development of ethnomedicines. Apart from research and discussion on the innovative development of ethnomedicines on the basis of theory and regulations, this series of articles also summarizes cases that are conducive to the overall understanding of the necessity and feasibility of the innovative development. In terms of industrial development, large enterprises and products, such as Yunnan Baiyao, Guizhou Miao ethnomedicines, Cheezheng Tibetan Medicine, products developed from Dengzhanhua (Erigeron breviscapus), the Gold series of Yi ethnomedicines, and products developed from Sanqi (Panax notoginseng), in China are introduced and summarized, focusing on resource superiority, sustainable innovation, standard research and development, and production, as well as intellectual property protection.展开更多

To achieve this purpose, modern scientific and techn...One of the primary purposes of the innovative development of ethnomedicines is to use their excellent safety and significant efficacy to serve a broader population. To achieve this purpose, modern scientific and technological means should be referenced, and relevant national laws and regulations as well as technical guides should be strictly followed to develop standards and to perform systemic research in producing ethnomedicines. Finally, ethnomedicines, which are applied to a limited extent in ethnic areas, can be transformed into safe, effective, and quality-controllable medical products to relieve the pain of more patients. The innovative development path of ethnomedicines includes the following three primary stages: resource study, standardized development research, and industrialization of the achievements and efforts for internationalization. The implementation of this path is always guaranteed by the research and development platform and the talent team. This article is based on the accumulation of long-term practice and is combined with the relevant disciplines, laws and regulations, and technical guidance from the research and development of ethnomedicines. The intention is to perform an in-depth analysis and explanation of the major research thinking, methods, contents, and technical paths involved in all stages of the innovative development path of ethnomedicines to provide useful references for the development of proper ethnomedicine use.展开更多
