BACKGROUND Postoperative patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery often encounter challenges such as low immune function,delayed wound healing owing to surgical trauma,and increased nutritional demands during reco...BACKGROUND Postoperative patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery often encounter challenges such as low immune function,delayed wound healing owing to surgical trauma,and increased nutritional demands during recovery.AIM To assess the effect of comprehensive nutritional support program on immune function and wound healing in patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery.METHODS This retrospective comparative study included 60 patients who underwent gastrointestinal surgery,randomly assigned to either the experimental group(n=30)or the control group(n=30).The experimental group received comprehensive nutritional support,including a combination of enteral and parenteral nutrition,whereas the control group received only conventional comprehensive nutritional support.Evaluation indicators included immune function markers(e.g.,white blood cell count,lymphocyte subsets),wound healing(wound infection rate,healing time),pain score[visual analog scale(VAS)score],and psychological status(anxiety score,depression score)7 days post-surgery)and duration of stay.RESULTS The immune function of patients in the experimental group was significantly better than that in the control group.The white blood cell count was 8.52±1.19×109/L in the experimental group vs 6.74±1.31×109/L(P<0.05).The proportion of CD4+T cells was higher in the experimental group(40.09%±4.91%)than that in the control group(33.01%±5.08%)(P<0.05);the proportion of CD8+T cells was lower(21.79%±3.38%vs 26.29%±3.09%;P<0.05).The CD4+/CD8+ratio was 1.91±0.32 in the experimental group whereas 1.13±0.23 in the control group(P<0.05).The wound infection rate of the experi-mental group was significantly lower than that of the control group(10%vs 30%,P<0.05),and the wound healing time was shorter(10.35±2.42 days vs 14.42±3.15 days,P<0.05).The VAS score of the experimental group was 3.05±1.04,and that of the control group was 5.11±1.09(P<0.05);the anxiety score(Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale)was 8.88±1.87,and that of the control group was 12.1±3.27(P<0.05);the depression score(Hamilton Depression Rating Scale)was 7.37±1.41,and that of the control group was 11.79±2.77(P<0.05).In addition,the hospitalization time of the experimental group was significantly shorter than that of the control group(16.16±3.12 days vs 20.93±4.84 days,P<0.05).CONCLUSION A comprehensive nutritional support program significantly enhances immune function,promote wound healing,reduces pain,improves psychological status,and shortens hospitalization stays in patients recovering from gastrointestinal surgery.展开更多

Achieving effective therapeutic concentrations at injury sites has been a slow process, partly due to the difficulty of delivering drugs effectively. Nanoparticles, with their targeted delivery capabilities, biocompatibility, and enhanced bioavailability over conventional drugs, are garnering attention for spinal cord injury treatment. This review explores the current mechanisms and shortcomings of existing treatments, highlighting the benefits and progress of nanoparticle-based approaches. We detail nanoparticle delivery methods for spinal cord injury, including local and intravenous injections, oral delivery, and biomaterial-assisted implantation, alongside strategies such as drug loading and surface modification. The discussion extends to how nanoparticles aid in reducing oxidative stress, dampening inflammation, fostering neural regeneration, and promoting angiogenesis. We summarize the use of various types of nanoparticles for treating spinal cord injuries, including metallic, polymeric, protein-based, inorganic non-metallic, and lipid nanoparticles. We also discuss the challenges faced, such as biosafety, effectiveness in humans, precise dosage control, standardization of production and characterization, immune responses, and targeted delivery in vivo. Additionally, we explore future directions, such as improving biosafety, standardizing manufacturing and characterization processes, and advancing human trials. Nanoparticles have shown considerable progress in targeted delivery and enhancing treatment efficacy for spinal cord injuries, presenting significant potential for clinical use and drug development.展开更多
Background Our previous studies demonstrated that divalent organic iron(Fe)proteinate sources with higher complexation or chelation strengths as expressed by the greater quotient of formation(Qf)values displayed highe...Background Our previous studies demonstrated that divalent organic iron(Fe)proteinate sources with higher complexation or chelation strengths as expressed by the greater quotient of formation(Qf)values displayed higher Fe bioavailabilities for broilers.Sodium iron ethylenediaminetetraacetate(NaFeEDTA)is a trivalent organic Fe source with the strongest chelating ligand EDTA.However,the bioavailability of Fe when administered as NaFeEDTA in broilers and other agricultural animals remains untested.Herein,the chemical characteristics of 12 NaFeEDTA products were determined.Of these,one feed grade NaFeEDTA(Qf=2.07×10^(8)),one food grade NaFeEDTA(Qf=3.31×10^(8)),and one Fe proteinate with an extremely strong chelation strength(Fe-Prot ES,Qf value=8,590)were selected.Their bioavailabilities relative to Fe sulfate(FeSO_(4)·7H_(2)O)for broilers fed with a conventional corn-soybean meal diet were evaluated during d 1 to 21 by investigating the effects of the above Fe sources and added Fe levels on the growth performance,hematological indices,Fe contents,activities and gene expressions of Fe-containing enzymes in various tissues of broilers.Results NaFeEDTA sources varied greatly in their chemical characteristics.Plasma Fe concentration(PI),transferrin saturation(TS),liver Fe content,succinate dehydrogenase(SDH)activities in liver,heart,and kidney,catalase(CAT)activity in liver,and SDH mRNA expressions in liver and kidney increased linearly(P<0.05)with increasing levels of Fe supplementation.However,differences among Fe sources were detected(P<0.05)only for PI,liver Fe content,CAT activity in liver,SDH activities in heart and kidney,and SDH mRNA expressions in liver and kidney.Based on slope ratios from multiple linear regressions of the above indices on daily dietary analyzed Fe intake,the average bioavailabilities of Fe-Prot ES,feed grade NaFeEDTA,and food grade NaFeEDTA relative to the inorganic FeSO_(4)·7H_(2)O(100%)for broilers were 139%,155%,and 166%,respectively.Conclusions The bioavailabilities of organic Fe sources relative to FeSO_(4)·7H_(2)O were closely related to their Qf values,and NaFeEDTA sources with higher Qf values showed higher Fe bioavailabilities for broilers fed with a conventional corn-soybean meal diet.展开更多

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of LLLT on pain and somatosensory sensitization induced by orthodontic treatment. Forty individuals(12–33 years old; mean ± standard deviations: 20.8 ± 5.9 years) scheduled to receive orthodontic treatment were randomly divided into a laser group(LG) or a placebo group(PG)(1:1). The LG received LLLT(810-nm gallium-aluminium-arsenic diode laser in continuous mode with the power set at 400 mW, 2 J·cm–2) at 0 h, 2 h, 24 h, 4 d, and 7 d after treatment, and the PG received inactive treatment at the same time points. In both groups, the non-treated side served as a control. A numerical rating scale(NRS) of pain, pressure pain thresholds(PPTs), cold detection thresholds(CDTs), warmth detection thresholds(WDTs), cold pain thresholds(CPTs), and heat pain thresholds(HPTs) were tested on both sides at the gingiva and canine tooth and on the hand. The data were analysed by a repeated measures analysis of variance(ANOVA). The NRS pain scores were significantly lower in the LG group(P = 0.01). The CDTs,CPTs, WDTs, HPTs, and PPTs at the gingiva and the PPTs at the canine tooth were significantly less sensitive on the treatment side of the LG compared with that of the PG(P < 0.033). The parameters tested also showed significantly less sensitivity on the nontreatment side of the LG compared to that of the PG(P < 0.043). There were no differences between the groups for any quantitative sensory testing(QST) measures of the hand. The application of LLLT appears to reduce the pain and sensitivity of the tooth and gingiva associated with orthodontic treatment and may have contralateral effects within the trigeminal system but no generalized QST effects. Thus, the present study indicated a significant analgesia effect of LLLT application during orthodontic treatment.Further clinical applications are suggested.展开更多

We evaluated the associations of age, body mass index (BMI) and serum lipid profile with serum PSA level in 6774 Chinese men (aged 20-49 years) who received a routine health examination. Eligible men were classified into 10-year age groups, BMI was categorized as underweight (〈18.5), normal (18.5-22.9), overweight (23.0-24.9), obese (25.0-29,9) and very obese (〉30) according to the redefined World Health Organization (WHO) criteria for the Asia-Pacific region. PSA levels were compared among groups as well, In multiple linear regression analysis, PSA was positively correlated with age (P〈0.0001). Negative correlations existed between PSA and BMI (P〈0.0001) and triglyceride level (P=0.01). No relationship could be found between PSA and serum cholesterol (P=0.711) or high-density lipoprotein (HDL; P =0.665). In addition, we found that serum PSA levels increased with age and decreased with BMI. Our study demonstrates that age, BMI and triglyceride levels influence the PSA level in men 〈50 years of age.展开更多

The obtained Fe3 O4@Si O2@KCC-1-phenyl showed monodisperse fibrous spherical morphology, fairly strong magnetic response(29 emu/g), and an abundant π-electron system, which allowed rapid isolation of the Fe3 O4@Si O2@KCC-1-phenyl from solutions upon applying an appropriate magnetic field. Several variables that affect the extraction efficiency of the analytes,including the type of the elution solvent, amount of adsorbent, extraction time and reusability, were investigated and optimized. Under optimum conditions, the Fe3 O4@Si O2@KCC-1-phenyl was used for the extraction of four phthalate esters from environmental water samples followed by high-performance liquid chromatographic analysis. Validation experiments indicated that the developed method presented good linearity(0.1-20 ng/m L), low limit of detection(7.5-29 μg/L, S/N =3). The proposed method was applied to the determination of phthalate esters in different real water samples, with relative recoveries of 93%-103.4%and relative standard deviation of 0.8%-8.3%.展开更多

Our objective was to evaluate the effects of different litter types on N mineralization and availability, microbial biomass, and activities of L-asparaginase and odiphenol oxidase (o-DPO) in soils of a poplar (Populus deltoides) plantation through 24 weeks of incubation experiments. The tested litters included foliage (F), branch (B), or root (R) of poplar trees, and understory vegetation (U) or a mixture of F, B, and U (M). Litter amendments led to rapid N immobilization during the first 4 weeks of incubation, while net N mineralization was detected in all tested soils from 6 to 24 weeks of incubation, with zero-order reaction rate constants (k) ranging from 7.7 to 9.6 mg N released kg-1 soil wk-1. Moreover, litter addition led to increased (C) 49-128% and increased microbial biomass carbon MBC:MBN ratio by 5-92%, strengthened activities of L-aspaxaginase and o-DPO by 14-74%; Up to about 37 kg N ha-1 net increase in mineralized N in litter added soils during 24 weeks of incubation suggests that adequate poplar and understory litter management could lead to reduced inputs while facilitate sustainable and economic viable plantation production.展开更多

Purified Salvia miltiorrhiza extract (PSME) had been shown to have hypolipidemic effect in animal experiments. This study aimed to evaluate its lipids modulating effects in hyperlipidemic patients. Methods In this single-blind, placebo cantrolled study, lipid profiles of 80 hyperlipidemic patients were checked at same conditions. They were divided into two equal groups randomly (each composing of 40 patients). They were given PSME tablet (800 mg) three times per day, or placebo tablet. All patients were put on NCEP type II diet and six weeks later, lipid profiles were checked. Results In PSME group, total cholesterol decreased by 27.32 mg/dl (12.3% reduction), LDL-cholesterol decreased by 23.13 mg/dl (16.8% reduction) and HDL-cholesterol increased by 9.06 mg/dl (11.1%), all were statistically significant. Although triglyceride dropped by 12.12 mg/dl (5.1%) but this was not significant statistically (P=0.34). There were no significant changes oflipids levels in the placebo group. Conclusions PSME has significant favorable effect on total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and HDL-cholesterol and may be a potential agent for the treatment ofatherogenic dyslipidemia.展开更多
Alstonia scholaris(L.)R.Br(Apocynaceae)is a well-documented medicinal plant for treating respiratory diseases,liver diseases and diabetes traditionally.The current study aimed to investigate the effects of TA on non-a...Alstonia scholaris(L.)R.Br(Apocynaceae)is a well-documented medicinal plant for treating respiratory diseases,liver diseases and diabetes traditionally.The current study aimed to investigate the effects of TA on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).A NAFLD model was established using mice fed a high-fat diet(HFD)and administered with TA(7.5,15 and 30 mg/kg)orally for 6 weeks.The biochemical parameters,expressions of lipid metabolism-related genes or proteins were analyzed.Furthermore,histopathological examinations were evaluated with Hematoxylin-Eosin and MASSON staining.TA treatment significantly decreased the bodyweight of HFD mice.The concentrations of low-density lipoprotein(LDL),triglyceride(TG),aspartate aminotransferase(AST)and alanine aminotransferase(ALT)were also decreased significantly in TA-treated mice group,accompanied by an increase in high-density lipoprotein(HDL).Furthermore,TA alleviated hepatic steatosis injury and lipid droplet accumulation of liver tissues.The liver mRNA levels involved in hepatic lipid synthesis such as sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1C(SREBP-1C),regulators of liver X receptorα(LXRα),peroxisome proliferator activated receptor(PPAR)γ,acetyl-CoA carboxylase(ACC1)and stearyl coenzyme A dehydrogenase-1(SCD1),were markedly decreased,while the expressions involved in the regulation of fatty acid oxidation,PPARα,carnitine palmitoyl transterase 1(CPT1A),and acyl coenzyme A oxidase 1(ACOX1)were increased in TA-treated mice.TA might attenuate NAFLD by regulating hepatic lipogenesis and fatty acid oxidation.展开更多
Colorectal cancer is often accompanied by multiple organ metastasis.Anaerobic Bifidobacterium Infantis(BI)bacterial can selectively grow in hypoxic colorectal tumor microenvironment(TME),to own the natural advantage o...Colorectal cancer is often accompanied by multiple organ metastasis.Anaerobic Bifidobacterium Infantis(BI)bacterial can selectively grow in hypoxic colorectal tumor microenvironment(TME),to own the natural advantage of preferentially colorectal tumor targeting.Herein,a self-guidance biological hybrid drug delivery system(BI-ES-Fe Alg/DOX)based on BI was constructed to inhibit the proliferation and metastasis of colon cancer.Results demonstrated that BI-ES-Fe Alg/DOX could overcome physical barriers to target and accumulate in colon tumor tissues.Then DOX was released to kill tumor cells along with the phase transition(solid to liquid)of Fe Alg hydrogel,due to Fe3+was reduced to Fe^(2+)by intracellular GSH.Meanwhile,BI-ES selectively colonized into tumors and expressed endostatin(ES)protein to down-regulate VEGF and b FGF expression,exerting anti-angiogenic effect.Moreover,Fe Alg catalyzed H_(2)O_(2)in the local tumor to generate cytotoxic·OH,further enhancing the antitumor effect.The pharmacodynamic result in AOM/DSS model proved that BI-ES-Fe Alg/DOX had the best therapeutic effect,with the final V/V0of 2.19±0.57,which was significantly lower than the other groups.Meanwhile,on CT-26tumor-bearing model,it also showed an outstanding anti-tumor effect with inhibition rate of 82.12%±3.08%.In addition,lung metastases decreased significantly in tumor metastasis model after BI-ES-Fe Alg/DOX treatment.展开更多

By embedding a p+implant region into the drain of NMOS in the traditional LVTSCR, a reversed Zener diode is formed by the p+implant region and the n+bridge, which helps to improve the holding voltage and decrease the snapback region.The physical mechanisms of the LVTSCR and DC-LVTSCR are investigated in detail by transmission line pulse(TLP)tests and TCAD simulations. The TLP test results show that, compared with the traditional LVTSCR, the DC-LVTSCR exhibits a higher holding voltage of 6.2 V due to the embedded clamping diode. By further optimizing a key parameter of the DC-LVTSCR, the holding voltage can be effectively increased to 8.7 V. Therefore, the DC-LVTSCR is a promising ESD protection device for circuits with the operation voltage of 5.5–7 V.展开更多
BACKGROUND Congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation(CCAM)and bronchopulmonary sequestration(BPS)are the most common lung diseases in fetuses.There are differences in the prognosis and treatment of CCAM and BPS,and t...BACKGROUND Congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation(CCAM)and bronchopulmonary sequestration(BPS)are the most common lung diseases in fetuses.There are differences in the prognosis and treatment of CCAM and BPS,and the clinical diagnosis and treatment plan is usually prepared prior to birth.Therefore,it is quite necessary to make a clear diagnosis before delivery.CCAM and BPS have similar imaging features,and the differentiation mainly relies on the difference in supply vessels.However,it is hard to distinguish them due to invisible supplying vessels on some images.AIM To explore the application value of magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)in the differential diagnosis of fetal CCAM and BPS.METHODS Data analysis for 32 fetuses with CCAM and 14 with BPS diagnosed by prenatal MRI at Huzhou Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital and Anhui Provincial Children’s Hospital from January 2017 to January 2020 was performed to observe the source blood vessels of lesions and their direction.Pathological confirmation was completed through CT examination and/or operations after birth.RESULTS After birth,31 cases after birth were confirmed to be CCAM,and 15 were confirmed to be BPS.The CCAM group consisted of 21 macrocystic cases and 10 microcystic cases.In 18 cases,blood vessels were visible in lesions.Blood supply of the pulmonary artery could be traced in eight cases,and in 10 cases,only vessels running from the midline to the lateral down direction were observed.No lesions were found in four macrocystic cases and one microcystic case with CCAM through CT after birth;two were misdiagnosed by MRI,and three were misdiagnosed by prenatal ultrasonography.The BPS group consisted of 12 intralobar cases and three extralobar cases.Blood vessels were visible in lesions of nine cases,in four of which,the systemic circulation blood supply could be traced,and in five of which,only vessels running from the midline to the lateral up direction were observed.Three were misdiagnosed by MRI,and four were misdiagnosed by prenatal ultrasonography.CONCLUSION CCAM and BPS can be clearly diagnosed based on the origin of blood vessels,and correct diagnosis can be made according to the difference in the direction of the blood vessels,but it is hard distinguish microcystic CCAM and BPS without supplying vessels.In some CCAM cases,mainly the macrocystic ones,the lesions may disappear after birth.展开更多
Advanced glycation end products(AGEs)are a complex and heterogencous group of compounds that have been implicated in diabetes related complfcations.Sk in autofluorescence was recently introduced as an altemative tool ...Advanced glycation end products(AGEs)are a complex and heterogencous group of compounds that have been implicated in diabetes related complfcations.Sk in autofluorescence was recently introduced as an altemative tool for skin AGEs accumulation assessment in diabetes.Sucossful optical diagnosis of diabetes requires a rapid and accurate classification algorithm.In order to improve the performance of noninvasive and optical diagnosis of type 2 diabetes,support vector machines(SVM)algorithm was implemented for the clasification of skin autofluorescence from diabetics and control subjects.Cross-validation and grid optimization methods were employed to calculate the optimal parameters that ma ximize classification accuracy.Classification model was set up according to the training set and then veri fied by the testing set.The results show that radical basis fiunction is the best choice in the four common kernels in SVM.Moreover,a diagnostic accuracy of 82.61%,a sensitivity of 69.57%,and a specificity of 95.65%for discriminating diabetics from control subjects were achieved using a mixed kemel function,which is based on liner kernel function and radical basis function.In comparison with fasting plasma glucose and HbAue test,the clasifcation method of skin autofuorescence spectrum based on SVM shows great potential in screening of diabetes.展开更多

The morphology, location, continuity with the parent bone, cartilage cap, perichondrium of tumors, and changes in soft and hard tissues adjacent to the lesions were investigated by two reviewers. Data were analyzed using Mc Nemar test. A P value < 0.05 was considered significant.Results Among the 33 condylar osteochondromas, 11 were of the diffuse type, 10 were of the sessile type, and 12 were of the pedunculated type. Continuity with the cortex and marrow of the host condyle was observed on both CT and MRI. Both modalities had identical detection rates of surface reconstruction of the temporal bone joint, condylar dislocation, and pseudarthrosis formation. However, MRI showed significantly higher detection rates of the cartilage cap and perichondrium than CT(P < 0.05). Furthermore, MRI showed ipsilateral and contralateral temporo-mandibular joint(TMJ) disc displacement in 4 cases and 6 cases, respectively, and ipsilateral and contralateral TMJ effusion in 20 cases and 14 cases, respectively.Conclusion CT can intuitively display the morphology and spatial location of condylar osteochondromas through three-dimensional reconstruction. MRI may be superior to CT in the detection of cartilage cap, perichondrium of the condylar osteochondroma, and changes in the TMJ and adjacent soft tissues.展开更多
AIM:To assess the clinicopathological and biological significance of cripto in human colorectal cancer.METHODS:Real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction(PCR)was used to examine cripto mRNA levels in pr...AIM:To assess the clinicopathological and biological significance of cripto in human colorectal cancer.METHODS:Real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction(PCR)was used to examine cripto mRNA levels in primary colon cancer and normal colon tissues as well as normal and metastatic lymph nodes from colon cancers.Human colon cancer LS-174T cells were transfected with cripto small interfering RNA(siRNA),and mRNA and protein levels were evaluated using real-time PCR and western blot analysis,respectively.The growth of cancer cells was evaluated using the MTT assay and colony formation in soft agar.Invasion was examined using a Transwell assay,and the expressions of matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-7 and MMP-9were determined using western blot assay.RESULTS:Cripto was significantly overexpressed in primary colon cancer and metastatic lymph nodes.Silencing cripto gene expression with cripto siRNA resulted in a significant decrease in colony formation in soft agar in the colon cancer cell line LS-174T.Cripto siRNA treatment decreased the migration and invasion capabilities of the colon cancer cell line LS-174T in vitro.Furthermore,cripto siRNA treatment inhibited the expression of matrix MMP-7 and MMP-9.CONCLUSION:The results provide evidence that cripto siRNA could be an effective approach for the inhibition of cancer cell invasion and migration and thus has potential for use in devising novel preventive and therapeutic strategies for colon cancer metastasis.展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND Postoperative patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery often encounter challenges such as low immune function,delayed wound healing owing to surgical trauma,and increased nutritional demands during recovery.AIM To assess the effect of comprehensive nutritional support program on immune function and wound healing in patients undergoing gastrointestinal surgery.METHODS This retrospective comparative study included 60 patients who underwent gastrointestinal surgery,randomly assigned to either the experimental group(n=30)or the control group(n=30).The experimental group received comprehensive nutritional support,including a combination of enteral and parenteral nutrition,whereas the control group received only conventional comprehensive nutritional support.Evaluation indicators included immune function markers(e.g.,white blood cell count,lymphocyte subsets),wound healing(wound infection rate,healing time),pain score[visual analog scale(VAS)score],and psychological status(anxiety score,depression score)7 days post-surgery)and duration of stay.RESULTS The immune function of patients in the experimental group was significantly better than that in the control group.The white blood cell count was 8.52±1.19×109/L in the experimental group vs 6.74±1.31×109/L(P<0.05).The proportion of CD4+T cells was higher in the experimental group(40.09%±4.91%)than that in the control group(33.01%±5.08%)(P<0.05);the proportion of CD8+T cells was lower(21.79%±3.38%vs 26.29%±3.09%;P<0.05).The CD4+/CD8+ratio was 1.91±0.32 in the experimental group whereas 1.13±0.23 in the control group(P<0.05).The wound infection rate of the experi-mental group was significantly lower than that of the control group(10%vs 30%,P<0.05),and the wound healing time was shorter(10.35±2.42 days vs 14.42±3.15 days,P<0.05).The VAS score of the experimental group was 3.05±1.04,and that of the control group was 5.11±1.09(P<0.05);the anxiety score(Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale)was 8.88±1.87,and that of the control group was 12.1±3.27(P<0.05);the depression score(Hamilton Depression Rating Scale)was 7.37±1.41,and that of the control group was 11.79±2.77(P<0.05).In addition,the hospitalization time of the experimental group was significantly shorter than that of the control group(16.16±3.12 days vs 20.93±4.84 days,P<0.05).CONCLUSION A comprehensive nutritional support program significantly enhances immune function,promote wound healing,reduces pain,improves psychological status,and shortens hospitalization stays in patients recovering from gastrointestinal surgery.

文摘Spinal cord injuries lead to significant loss of motor, sensory, and autonomic functions, presenting major challenges in neural regeneration. Achieving effective therapeutic concentrations at injury sites has been a slow process, partly due to the difficulty of delivering drugs effectively. Nanoparticles, with their targeted delivery capabilities, biocompatibility, and enhanced bioavailability over conventional drugs, are garnering attention for spinal cord injury treatment. This review explores the current mechanisms and shortcomings of existing treatments, highlighting the benefits and progress of nanoparticle-based approaches. We detail nanoparticle delivery methods for spinal cord injury, including local and intravenous injections, oral delivery, and biomaterial-assisted implantation, alongside strategies such as drug loading and surface modification. The discussion extends to how nanoparticles aid in reducing oxidative stress, dampening inflammation, fostering neural regeneration, and promoting angiogenesis. We summarize the use of various types of nanoparticles for treating spinal cord injuries, including metallic, polymeric, protein-based, inorganic non-metallic, and lipid nanoparticles. We also discuss the challenges faced, such as biosafety, effectiveness in humans, precise dosage control, standardization of production and characterization, immune responses, and targeted delivery in vivo. Additionally, we explore future directions, such as improving biosafety, standardizing manufacturing and characterization processes, and advancing human trials. Nanoparticles have shown considerable progress in targeted delivery and enhancing treatment efficacy for spinal cord injuries, presenting significant potential for clinical use and drug development.

文摘Background Our previous studies demonstrated that divalent organic iron(Fe)proteinate sources with higher complexation or chelation strengths as expressed by the greater quotient of formation(Qf)values displayed higher Fe bioavailabilities for broilers.Sodium iron ethylenediaminetetraacetate(NaFeEDTA)is a trivalent organic Fe source with the strongest chelating ligand EDTA.However,the bioavailability of Fe when administered as NaFeEDTA in broilers and other agricultural animals remains untested.Herein,the chemical characteristics of 12 NaFeEDTA products were determined.Of these,one feed grade NaFeEDTA(Qf=2.07×10^(8)),one food grade NaFeEDTA(Qf=3.31×10^(8)),and one Fe proteinate with an extremely strong chelation strength(Fe-Prot ES,Qf value=8,590)were selected.Their bioavailabilities relative to Fe sulfate(FeSO_(4)·7H_(2)O)for broilers fed with a conventional corn-soybean meal diet were evaluated during d 1 to 21 by investigating the effects of the above Fe sources and added Fe levels on the growth performance,hematological indices,Fe contents,activities and gene expressions of Fe-containing enzymes in various tissues of broilers.Results NaFeEDTA sources varied greatly in their chemical characteristics.Plasma Fe concentration(PI),transferrin saturation(TS),liver Fe content,succinate dehydrogenase(SDH)activities in liver,heart,and kidney,catalase(CAT)activity in liver,and SDH mRNA expressions in liver and kidney increased linearly(P<0.05)with increasing levels of Fe supplementation.However,differences among Fe sources were detected(P<0.05)only for PI,liver Fe content,CAT activity in liver,SDH activities in heart and kidney,and SDH mRNA expressions in liver and kidney.Based on slope ratios from multiple linear regressions of the above indices on daily dietary analyzed Fe intake,the average bioavailabilities of Fe-Prot ES,feed grade NaFeEDTA,and food grade NaFeEDTA relative to the inorganic FeSO_(4)·7H_(2)O(100%)for broilers were 139%,155%,and 166%,respectively.Conclusions The bioavailabilities of organic Fe sources relative to FeSO_(4)·7H_(2)O were closely related to their Qf values,and NaFeEDTA sources with higher Qf values showed higher Fe bioavailabilities for broilers fed with a conventional corn-soybean meal diet.
文摘BACKGROUND Xanthomatosis,a metabolic disorder causing yellow growths(xanthomas),poses challenges in lipid metabolism.This case study introduces the first documented instance within China's Yi population,emphasizing the need to explore dietary habits and treatment strategies tailored to this specific community.CASE SUMMARY Xanthomatosis is a metabolic disorder where lipid metabolism goes awry,resulting in the development of yellowish growths called xanthomas.A male patient,47 years of age,from China's Yi population,who is obese,visited our dermatology clinic complaining of widespread,non-painful rashes that have been present for two weeks.The patient works as a chef and has a diet that frequently includes oily and greasy foods.This case represents the initial documentation of xanthomatosis within the Yi population in China,offering a theoretical foundation for understanding dietary patterns and treatment options specific to the Yi community.CONCLUSION The first report of xanthomatosis in the Yi population in China lays a theoretical foundation for understanding Yi dietary patterns and treatment.

文摘Low-level laser therapy(LLLT) may have an effect on the pain associated with orthodontic treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of LLLT on pain and somatosensory sensitization induced by orthodontic treatment. Forty individuals(12–33 years old; mean ± standard deviations: 20.8 ± 5.9 years) scheduled to receive orthodontic treatment were randomly divided into a laser group(LG) or a placebo group(PG)(1:1). The LG received LLLT(810-nm gallium-aluminium-arsenic diode laser in continuous mode with the power set at 400 mW, 2 J·cm–2) at 0 h, 2 h, 24 h, 4 d, and 7 d after treatment, and the PG received inactive treatment at the same time points. In both groups, the non-treated side served as a control. A numerical rating scale(NRS) of pain, pressure pain thresholds(PPTs), cold detection thresholds(CDTs), warmth detection thresholds(WDTs), cold pain thresholds(CPTs), and heat pain thresholds(HPTs) were tested on both sides at the gingiva and canine tooth and on the hand. The data were analysed by a repeated measures analysis of variance(ANOVA). The NRS pain scores were significantly lower in the LG group(P = 0.01). The CDTs,CPTs, WDTs, HPTs, and PPTs at the gingiva and the PPTs at the canine tooth were significantly less sensitive on the treatment side of the LG compared with that of the PG(P < 0.033). The parameters tested also showed significantly less sensitivity on the nontreatment side of the LG compared to that of the PG(P < 0.043). There were no differences between the groups for any quantitative sensory testing(QST) measures of the hand. The application of LLLT appears to reduce the pain and sensitivity of the tooth and gingiva associated with orthodontic treatment and may have contralateral effects within the trigeminal system but no generalized QST effects. Thus, the present study indicated a significant analgesia effect of LLLT application during orthodontic treatment.Further clinical applications are suggested.
文摘This study is to assess the potential factors that could affect the serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) level in healthy younger men. We evaluated the associations of age, body mass index (BMI) and serum lipid profile with serum PSA level in 6774 Chinese men (aged 20-49 years) who received a routine health examination. Eligible men were classified into 10-year age groups, BMI was categorized as underweight (〈18.5), normal (18.5-22.9), overweight (23.0-24.9), obese (25.0-29,9) and very obese (〉30) according to the redefined World Health Organization (WHO) criteria for the Asia-Pacific region. PSA levels were compared among groups as well, In multiple linear regression analysis, PSA was positively correlated with age (P〈0.0001). Negative correlations existed between PSA and BMI (P〈0.0001) and triglyceride level (P=0.01). No relationship could be found between PSA and serum cholesterol (P=0.711) or high-density lipoprotein (HDL; P =0.665). In addition, we found that serum PSA levels increased with age and decreased with BMI. Our study demonstrates that age, BMI and triglyceride levels influence the PSA level in men 〈50 years of age.

文摘A new kind of phenyl-functionalized magnetic fibrous mesoporous silica(Fe3 O4@Si O2@KCC-1-phenyl) was prepared by copolymerization as an efficient adsorbent for the magnetic extraction of phthalate esters from environmental water samples. The obtained Fe3 O4@Si O2@KCC-1-phenyl showed monodisperse fibrous spherical morphology, fairly strong magnetic response(29 emu/g), and an abundant π-electron system, which allowed rapid isolation of the Fe3 O4@Si O2@KCC-1-phenyl from solutions upon applying an appropriate magnetic field. Several variables that affect the extraction efficiency of the analytes,including the type of the elution solvent, amount of adsorbent, extraction time and reusability, were investigated and optimized. Under optimum conditions, the Fe3 O4@Si O2@KCC-1-phenyl was used for the extraction of four phthalate esters from environmental water samples followed by high-performance liquid chromatographic analysis. Validation experiments indicated that the developed method presented good linearity(0.1-20 ng/m L), low limit of detection(7.5-29 μg/L, S/N =3). The proposed method was applied to the determination of phthalate esters in different real water samples, with relative recoveries of 93%-103.4%and relative standard deviation of 0.8%-8.3%.

文摘Understanding the impact of plant litters on soil nitrogen (N) dynamics could facilitate development of management strategies that promote plantation ecosystem function. Our objective was to evaluate the effects of different litter types on N mineralization and availability, microbial biomass, and activities of L-asparaginase and odiphenol oxidase (o-DPO) in soils of a poplar (Populus deltoides) plantation through 24 weeks of incubation experiments. The tested litters included foliage (F), branch (B), or root (R) of poplar trees, and understory vegetation (U) or a mixture of F, B, and U (M). Litter amendments led to rapid N immobilization during the first 4 weeks of incubation, while net N mineralization was detected in all tested soils from 6 to 24 weeks of incubation, with zero-order reaction rate constants (k) ranging from 7.7 to 9.6 mg N released kg-1 soil wk-1. Moreover, litter addition led to increased (C) 49-128% and increased microbial biomass carbon MBC:MBN ratio by 5-92%, strengthened activities of L-aspaxaginase and o-DPO by 14-74%; Up to about 37 kg N ha-1 net increase in mineralized N in litter added soils during 24 weeks of incubation suggests that adequate poplar and understory litter management could lead to reduced inputs while facilitate sustainable and economic viable plantation production.
文摘Background and Objective Hyperlipidemia is one of the most potent and best substantiated risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD). Purified Salvia miltiorrhiza extract (PSME) had been shown to have hypolipidemic effect in animal experiments. This study aimed to evaluate its lipids modulating effects in hyperlipidemic patients. Methods In this single-blind, placebo cantrolled study, lipid profiles of 80 hyperlipidemic patients were checked at same conditions. They were divided into two equal groups randomly (each composing of 40 patients). They were given PSME tablet (800 mg) three times per day, or placebo tablet. All patients were put on NCEP type II diet and six weeks later, lipid profiles were checked. Results In PSME group, total cholesterol decreased by 27.32 mg/dl (12.3% reduction), LDL-cholesterol decreased by 23.13 mg/dl (16.8% reduction) and HDL-cholesterol increased by 9.06 mg/dl (11.1%), all were statistically significant. Although triglyceride dropped by 12.12 mg/dl (5.1%) but this was not significant statistically (P=0.34). There were no significant changes oflipids levels in the placebo group. Conclusions PSME has significant favorable effect on total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and HDL-cholesterol and may be a potential agent for the treatment ofatherogenic dyslipidemia.

文摘Alstonia scholaris(L.)R.Br(Apocynaceae)is a well-documented medicinal plant for treating respiratory diseases,liver diseases and diabetes traditionally.The current study aimed to investigate the effects of TA on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).A NAFLD model was established using mice fed a high-fat diet(HFD)and administered with TA(7.5,15 and 30 mg/kg)orally for 6 weeks.The biochemical parameters,expressions of lipid metabolism-related genes or proteins were analyzed.Furthermore,histopathological examinations were evaluated with Hematoxylin-Eosin and MASSON staining.TA treatment significantly decreased the bodyweight of HFD mice.The concentrations of low-density lipoprotein(LDL),triglyceride(TG),aspartate aminotransferase(AST)and alanine aminotransferase(ALT)were also decreased significantly in TA-treated mice group,accompanied by an increase in high-density lipoprotein(HDL).Furthermore,TA alleviated hepatic steatosis injury and lipid droplet accumulation of liver tissues.The liver mRNA levels involved in hepatic lipid synthesis such as sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1C(SREBP-1C),regulators of liver X receptorα(LXRα),peroxisome proliferator activated receptor(PPAR)γ,acetyl-CoA carboxylase(ACC1)and stearyl coenzyme A dehydrogenase-1(SCD1),were markedly decreased,while the expressions involved in the regulation of fatty acid oxidation,PPARα,carnitine palmitoyl transterase 1(CPT1A),and acyl coenzyme A oxidase 1(ACOX1)were increased in TA-treated mice.TA might attenuate NAFLD by regulating hepatic lipogenesis and fatty acid oxidation.

文摘Colorectal cancer is often accompanied by multiple organ metastasis.Anaerobic Bifidobacterium Infantis(BI)bacterial can selectively grow in hypoxic colorectal tumor microenvironment(TME),to own the natural advantage of preferentially colorectal tumor targeting.Herein,a self-guidance biological hybrid drug delivery system(BI-ES-Fe Alg/DOX)based on BI was constructed to inhibit the proliferation and metastasis of colon cancer.Results demonstrated that BI-ES-Fe Alg/DOX could overcome physical barriers to target and accumulate in colon tumor tissues.Then DOX was released to kill tumor cells along with the phase transition(solid to liquid)of Fe Alg hydrogel,due to Fe3+was reduced to Fe^(2+)by intracellular GSH.Meanwhile,BI-ES selectively colonized into tumors and expressed endostatin(ES)protein to down-regulate VEGF and b FGF expression,exerting anti-angiogenic effect.Moreover,Fe Alg catalyzed H_(2)O_(2)in the local tumor to generate cytotoxic·OH,further enhancing the antitumor effect.The pharmacodynamic result in AOM/DSS model proved that BI-ES-Fe Alg/DOX had the best therapeutic effect,with the final V/V0of 2.19±0.57,which was significantly lower than the other groups.Meanwhile,on CT-26tumor-bearing model,it also showed an outstanding anti-tumor effect with inhibition rate of 82.12%±3.08%.In addition,lung metastases decreased significantly in tumor metastasis model after BI-ES-Fe Alg/DOX treatment.

文摘In order to reduce the latch-up risk of the traditional low-voltage-triggered silicon controlled rectifier(LVTSCR), a novel LVTSCR with embedded clamping diode(DC-LVTSCR) is proposed and verified in a 0.18-μm CMOS process. By embedding a p+implant region into the drain of NMOS in the traditional LVTSCR, a reversed Zener diode is formed by the p+implant region and the n+bridge, which helps to improve the holding voltage and decrease the snapback region.The physical mechanisms of the LVTSCR and DC-LVTSCR are investigated in detail by transmission line pulse(TLP)tests and TCAD simulations. The TLP test results show that, compared with the traditional LVTSCR, the DC-LVTSCR exhibits a higher holding voltage of 6.2 V due to the embedded clamping diode. By further optimizing a key parameter of the DC-LVTSCR, the holding voltage can be effectively increased to 8.7 V. Therefore, the DC-LVTSCR is a promising ESD protection device for circuits with the operation voltage of 5.5–7 V.

文摘BACKGROUND Congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation(CCAM)and bronchopulmonary sequestration(BPS)are the most common lung diseases in fetuses.There are differences in the prognosis and treatment of CCAM and BPS,and the clinical diagnosis and treatment plan is usually prepared prior to birth.Therefore,it is quite necessary to make a clear diagnosis before delivery.CCAM and BPS have similar imaging features,and the differentiation mainly relies on the difference in supply vessels.However,it is hard to distinguish them due to invisible supplying vessels on some images.AIM To explore the application value of magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)in the differential diagnosis of fetal CCAM and BPS.METHODS Data analysis for 32 fetuses with CCAM and 14 with BPS diagnosed by prenatal MRI at Huzhou Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital and Anhui Provincial Children’s Hospital from January 2017 to January 2020 was performed to observe the source blood vessels of lesions and their direction.Pathological confirmation was completed through CT examination and/or operations after birth.RESULTS After birth,31 cases after birth were confirmed to be CCAM,and 15 were confirmed to be BPS.The CCAM group consisted of 21 macrocystic cases and 10 microcystic cases.In 18 cases,blood vessels were visible in lesions.Blood supply of the pulmonary artery could be traced in eight cases,and in 10 cases,only vessels running from the midline to the lateral down direction were observed.No lesions were found in four macrocystic cases and one microcystic case with CCAM through CT after birth;two were misdiagnosed by MRI,and three were misdiagnosed by prenatal ultrasonography.The BPS group consisted of 12 intralobar cases and three extralobar cases.Blood vessels were visible in lesions of nine cases,in four of which,the systemic circulation blood supply could be traced,and in five of which,only vessels running from the midline to the lateral up direction were observed.Three were misdiagnosed by MRI,and four were misdiagnosed by prenatal ultrasonography.CONCLUSION CCAM and BPS can be clearly diagnosed based on the origin of blood vessels,and correct diagnosis can be made according to the difference in the direction of the blood vessels,but it is hard distinguish microcystic CCAM and BPS without supplying vessels.In some CCAM cases,mainly the macrocystic ones,the lesions may disappear after birth.

文摘Advanced glycation end products(AGEs)are a complex and heterogencous group of compounds that have been implicated in diabetes related complfcations.Sk in autofluorescence was recently introduced as an altemative tool for skin AGEs accumulation assessment in diabetes.Sucossful optical diagnosis of diabetes requires a rapid and accurate classification algorithm.In order to improve the performance of noninvasive and optical diagnosis of type 2 diabetes,support vector machines(SVM)algorithm was implemented for the clasification of skin autofluorescence from diabetics and control subjects.Cross-validation and grid optimization methods were employed to calculate the optimal parameters that ma ximize classification accuracy.Classification model was set up according to the training set and then veri fied by the testing set.The results show that radical basis fiunction is the best choice in the four common kernels in SVM.Moreover,a diagnostic accuracy of 82.61%,a sensitivity of 69.57%,and a specificity of 95.65%for discriminating diabetics from control subjects were achieved using a mixed kemel function,which is based on liner kernel function and radical basis function.In comparison with fasting plasma glucose and HbAue test,the clasifcation method of skin autofuorescence spectrum based on SVM shows great potential in screening of diabetes.

文摘Objective The purpose of this study was to compare computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) for the detection of mandibular condylar osteochondroma.Methods Preoperative CT and MRI of 33 patients with unilateral condylar osteochondroma were reviewed. The morphology, location, continuity with the parent bone, cartilage cap, perichondrium of tumors, and changes in soft and hard tissues adjacent to the lesions were investigated by two reviewers. Data were analyzed using Mc Nemar test. A P value < 0.05 was considered significant.Results Among the 33 condylar osteochondromas, 11 were of the diffuse type, 10 were of the sessile type, and 12 were of the pedunculated type. Continuity with the cortex and marrow of the host condyle was observed on both CT and MRI. Both modalities had identical detection rates of surface reconstruction of the temporal bone joint, condylar dislocation, and pseudarthrosis formation. However, MRI showed significantly higher detection rates of the cartilage cap and perichondrium than CT(P < 0.05). Furthermore, MRI showed ipsilateral and contralateral temporo-mandibular joint(TMJ) disc displacement in 4 cases and 6 cases, respectively, and ipsilateral and contralateral TMJ effusion in 20 cases and 14 cases, respectively.Conclusion CT can intuitively display the morphology and spatial location of condylar osteochondromas through three-dimensional reconstruction. MRI may be superior to CT in the detection of cartilage cap, perichondrium of the condylar osteochondroma, and changes in the TMJ and adjacent soft tissues.

文摘AIM:To assess the clinicopathological and biological significance of cripto in human colorectal cancer.METHODS:Real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction(PCR)was used to examine cripto mRNA levels in primary colon cancer and normal colon tissues as well as normal and metastatic lymph nodes from colon cancers.Human colon cancer LS-174T cells were transfected with cripto small interfering RNA(siRNA),and mRNA and protein levels were evaluated using real-time PCR and western blot analysis,respectively.The growth of cancer cells was evaluated using the MTT assay and colony formation in soft agar.Invasion was examined using a Transwell assay,and the expressions of matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-7 and MMP-9were determined using western blot assay.RESULTS:Cripto was significantly overexpressed in primary colon cancer and metastatic lymph nodes.Silencing cripto gene expression with cripto siRNA resulted in a significant decrease in colony formation in soft agar in the colon cancer cell line LS-174T.Cripto siRNA treatment decreased the migration and invasion capabilities of the colon cancer cell line LS-174T in vitro.Furthermore,cripto siRNA treatment inhibited the expression of matrix MMP-7 and MMP-9.CONCLUSION:The results provide evidence that cripto siRNA could be an effective approach for the inhibition of cancer cell invasion and migration and thus has potential for use in devising novel preventive and therapeutic strategies for colon cancer metastasis.
