Knowledge, attitude, and practice toward disease prevention among a high-risk population for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: A cross-sectional study

Objective This study aimed to describe the current situation of knowledge,attitude,and practice(KAP)of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)prevention among a high-risk population for COPD.Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted.A total of 241 participants at risk of COPD were selected who visited the respiratory outpatient department of a Class A tertiary hospital in Chongqing,China from January to December 2021.A self-developed COPD prevention KAP assessment was used for evaluation which included knowledge(21 items),attitude(9 items),and practice(9 items)three dimension,39 items.Results The average overall KAP score was 68.29±12.91,with scores for the knowledge,attitude,and practice dimension was 68.75±18.07,71.13±15.09 and 65.00±20.93,respectively.Among the people at risk of COPD,76.8%experienced a moderate level of KAP toward COPD prevention,while 22.0%were at a poor level.Significant differences in the KAP scores were based on gender,educational level,occupation,type of medical insurance,smoking,and passive smoking status(P<0.05).The male COPD high-risk group has better KAP toward COPD prevention than the female group(P<0.05).The knowledge and attitude of COPD prevention present worse in people with a high risk of COPD aged 70 or above,primary school and below educational level,and farmers(P<0.05).Smoking and passive smoking groups have higher recognition of the knowledge but the lower practice of COPD prevention(P<0.05).Conclusion The participants with a high risk of COPD had a moderate level of KAP for COPD prevention,in which the understanding and action on vaccination and lung function test was weak,but an active attitude for health.It is necessary to implement tailored health education interventions to their characteristics to reduce the incidence and development of COPD. 展开更多

Peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC)is extensively used in critical care settings,because it plays a vital role in providing safe central venous entry.However,PICC is associated with several complications,which should be detected to shorten the duration of patients'improvement,reduce health care cost,and lessen the incidence of various PICC-related complications.Therefore,this study aimed to outline current literature on PICC procedures,potential complications,and measures for prevention.Understanding evidence-based guidelines regarding insertion technique,early detection of complications,and care bundle of PICC is significant in complication prevention.Implementation of education,training,and appropriate multidisciplinary approaches on PICC care among nurses and caregivers is the key to preventing complications.Thus,the strict care of indwelling PICC lines,the targeted and reasonable PICCassociated complication prevention,and nursing care have a major clinical significance in reducing the occurrence of potential PICC complications. 展开更多

Objectives Gerontechnology has great potential in promoting older adults’well-being.With the accelerated aging process,gerontechnology has a promising market prospect.However,most technological developers and healthcare professionals attached importance to products’effectiveness,and ignored older adults’demands and user experience,which reduced older adults'adoption intention of gerontechnology use.The inclusion of older adults in the design process of technologies is essential to maximize the effect.This study explored older adults’demands for a self-developed intelligent medication administration system and proposed optimization schemes,thus providing reference to developing geriatric-friendly technologies and products.Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted to explore older adults’technological demands for the self-developed intelligent medication administration system,and data were analyzed based on the Kano model.A self-made questionnaire was administered from July 2020 to October 2020 after participants used this system for two weeks.The study was registered with the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry(ChiCTR2000040644).Results A total of 354 older adults participated in the survey.Four items,namely larger font size,simpler operation process,scheduled medication reminders and reliable hardware,were classified as must-be attributes;three items,namely searching drug instructions through WeChat,more sensitive system and longer battery life,as attractive attributes;one item,viewing disease-related information through WeChat,as the one-dimensional attribute;and the rest were indifferent attributes,including simple and beautiful displays,blocking advertisements automatically,providing user privacy protection protocol,viewing personal medical information only by logged-in users,recording all the medications,ordering medications through WeChat.The satisfaction values were between 0.24 and 0.69,and dissatisfaction values were between 0.06 and 0.94.Conclusion This study suggested that older adults had personalized technology demands.Including their technological demands and desire may assist in decreasing the digital divide and promoting the satisfaction of e-health and/or m-health.Based on older adults’demands,our study proposed optimization schemes of the intelligent medication administration system,which may help developers design geriatric-friendly intelligent products and nurses to perform older adults-centered and efficient medication management. 展开更多

Improving health of Chinese people has become national strategy according to the Healthy China 2030.Patient experience evaluation examines health care service from perspective of patients;it is important for improving health care quality.Applying artificial intelligence(AI)in patient experience is an innovative approach to assist continuous improvement of care quality of patient service.A nursing quality platform based on patient experience data which is empowered by AI technologies has been established in China for the purpose of surveillance and analysis of the quality of patient care.It contains data from nearly 1300 healthcare facilities,based on which portraits of nursing service qualities can be drawn.The patient experience big data platform has shown potentials for healthcare facilities to improve patient care quality.More efforts are needed to achieve the goal of enhancing people’s sense of health gain. 展开更多

Alkaline soils pose an increasing problem for agriculture worldwide,but using stress-tolerant plants as green manure can improve marginal land.Here,we show that the legume Sesbania cannabina is very tolerant to alkaline conditions and,when used as a green manure,substantially improves alkaline soil.To understand genome evolution and the mechanisms of stress tolerance in this allotetraploid legume,we generated the first telomere-to-telomere genome assembly of S.cannabina spanning~2,087 Mb.The assembly included all centromeric regions,which contain centromeric satellite repeats,and complete chromosome ends with telomeric characteristics.Further genome analysis distinguished A and B subgenomes,which diverged approximately 7.9 million years ago.Comparative genomic analysis revealed that the chromosome homoeologs underwent large-scale inversion events(>10 Mb)and a significant,transposon-driven size expansion of the chromosome 5A homoeolog.We further identified four specific alkali-induced phosphate transporter genes in S.cannabina;these may function in alkali tolerance by relieving the deficiency in available phosphorus in alkaline soil.Our work highlights the significance of S.cannabina as a green tool to improve marginal lands and sheds light on subgenome evolution and adaptation to alkaline soils. 展开更多

This study examined the effectiveness for degradation of hydrophobic (HPO),transphilic(TPI) and hydrophilic (HPI) fractions of natural organic matter (NOM) during UV/H_(2)O_(2),UV/TiO_(2)and UV/K2S2O8(UV/PS) advanced oxidation processes (AOPs).The changing characteristics of NOM were evaluated by dissolved organic carbon (DOC),the specific UV absorbance (SUVA),trihalomethanes formation potential (THMFP),organic halogen adsorbable on activated carbon formation potential (AOXFP) and parallel factor analysis of excitation–emission matrices (PARAFAC-EEMs).In the three UV-based AOPs,HPI fraction with low molecular weight and aromaticity was more likely to degradate than HPO and TPI,and the removal efficiency of SUVA for HPO was much higher than TPI and HPI fraction.In terms of the specific THMFP of HPO,TPI and HPI,a reduction was achieved in the UV/H_(2)O_(2)process,and the higest removal rate even reached to 83%.UV/TiO_(2)and UV/PS processes can only decrease the specific THMFP of HPI.The specific AOXFP of HPO,TPI and HPI fractions were all able to be degraded by the three UV-based AOPs,and HPO content is more susceptible to decompose than TPI and HPI content.UV/H_(2)O_(2)was found to be the most effective treatment for the removal of THMFP and AOXFP under given conditions.C1 (microbial or marine derived humic-like substances),C_(2) (terrestrially derived humic-like substances)and C_(3) (tryptophan-like proteins) fluorescent components of HPO fraction were fairly labile across the UV-based AOPs treatment.C_(3) of each fraction of NOM was the most resistant to degrade upon the UV-based AOPs.Results from this study may provide the prediction about the consequence of UV-based AOPs for the degradation of different fractions of NOM with varied characteristics. 展开更多

The lack of genome editing platforms has hampered efforts to study and improve forage crops that can be grown on lands not suited to other crops.Here,we established efficient Agrobacterium-mediated clustered regularly interspaced palindromic repeats(CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated nuclease 9(Cas9)genome editing in a perennial,stress-tolerant forage grass,sheepgrass(Leymus chinensis).By screening for active single-guide RNAs(sg RNAs),accessions that regenerate well,suitable Agrobacterium strains,and optimal culture media,and co-expressing the morphogenic factor Ta WOX5,we achieved 11%transformation and 5.83%editing efficiency in sheepgrass.Knocking out Teosinte Branched1(TB1)significantly increased tiller number and biomass.This study opens avenues for studying gene function and breeding in sheepgrass. 展开更多

Single-layer MoS_(2)produced by mechanical exfoliation is usually connected to thicker and multilayer regions.We show a facile laser trimming method to insulate single-layer MoS_(2)regions from thicker ones.We demonstrate,through electrical characterization,that the laser trimming method can be used to pattern single-layer MoS_(2)channels with regular geometry and electrically disconnected from the thicker areas.Scanning photocurrent microscope further confirms that in the as-deposited flake(connected to a multilayer area)most of the photocurrent is being generated in the thicker flake region.After laser trimming,scanning photocurrent microscopy shows how only the single-layer MoS_(2)region contributes to the photocurrent generation.The presented method is a direct-write and lithography-free(no need of resist or wet chemicals)alternative to reactive ion etching process to pattern the flakes that can be easily adopted by many research groups fabricating devices with MoS_(2) and similar twodimensional materials. 展开更多
