Bangladesh has the lucrative maritime load centers or seaports to provide maritime logistics support as well as to do port transport business regionally with India, Nepal and Bhutan and internationally with China and Myanmar. Existing land ports as alternatives of dry ports are main strength of Bangladesh to connect with the seaports and offer port transport business for earning foreign exchange and able to play a vital role to develop the South Asia, SW part of China and Myanmar by serving the maritime logistics facilities timely and economically. In here, dry port concept is the main theme for developing port transport business where road, rail and waterways are the connectors or modes of transportation and seaports are the linking points with the sea world, Innovation is the key of success of a business idea and plan where maritime logistics business is the new opportunity of Bangladesh by using natural resources or seaport by mounting infrastructure facilities of nodes (seaport and dry port) and modes (road, rail and waterways) and adding speedy port transport for all. The intermodal freight transportation system is the new concept for creating the new era in the port transport business by using nodes, modes and technology innovatively. This research aims to find out the possible ways and innovations in maritime logistics for doing port transport business by using seaports and land ports by applying qualitative research methodology. The paper also describes the innovations of Rotterdam port as case study that facilitated the needs of a hinterland in Europe to explore the innovations for Bangladesh maritime logistics industry. 展开更多

In the last two decades, the supply and demand of fuel in Bangladesh increased enormously because of her economic growth.Likewise, energy and power require helping the industry and basic supplies to the citizens.Recent development of electric power industry,is essential to arrange the necessary facilities at seaport and its further transportation to the consignee premises by applying JIT(just-in-time)approach inevitably.Driven in particular, innovation is required in the prime ports Chittagong and Mongla, what’s more,in newly established Payra port.In addition, regional demand especially from Nepal,Bhutan and Seven Sisters of India for importing fuel through Bangladeshi seaports or pertaining intermodal freight transportation of containerized fuel or tanktainer that cloaked up the derived demand of increasing seaport facilitates in Bangladesh.Another factor that will influence the importing and handling of fuel is the environmental compliance and stringent environmental regulations enacted by IMO(International Maritime Organization),hereby, necessary steps to be taken by port authority or government accordingly.Emerging opportunities,in addition to traditional fuel management at port, coal,LPG(liquefied petroleum gas)and LNG(liquefied natural gas)are the new products for Bangladesh and its neighbors as growing demand of receiving in Bangladeshi ports in a big volume progressively. This paper aims to explore the role of port authorities in the process of developing port and intermodal infrastructure and others to mitigate the uprising demand of fuel handling in port protected area and quick transfer of fuel to the final destination. 展开更多

Chittagong Port is the principal seaport in Bangladesh that has contributed to the national economy with the opportunity to be a world-class regional port in South Asia.Cooperation among the three national ports Chittagong,Mongla and Payra is essential to do maritime logistics business in the region after serving the nation proudly. Here,Chittagong Port Authority(CPA)has the opportunity to help others in the process of port development for increasing efficiency and productivity by providing financial and technical assistance because of its financial and technical capabilities as a pioneer seaport in the port world. This paper examines the role of CPA to bolster and develop the underutilized Mongla Port and newly established Payra Port, where qualitative research methodology is applied to explore the ways,by which CPA can assist, link and integrate with others effectively, especially in developing the port infrastructure and inland transport networks. In addition, the research found the prospectus of Mongla and Payra to supply port services to the neighbors India,Nepal, and Bhutan as well as serve the South-West part of China with the aim of increasing regional connectivity and promoting international trade in those basically landlocked areas and countries of Asia. 展开更多
