We numerically calculated the effect of parameters in electrocaloric refrigeration with a thermal switch of fluid motion on the thermal performance. The system of changing air and water flow with the pulse generation of cold energy increased the heat transfer efficiency to 67% at a frequency of 5 Hz. The optimum time delay of water flow to increase the heat transfer efficiency was zero at low frequency and became half of the time period to change heat for a high frequency of 100 Hz. When the heat transfer efficiency was high, the final temperature change in water flow was not the maximum temperature change.展开更多

In this study we made an experimental apparatus including a memory card array and measured the effect of the rise in temperature of the air on the heat transfer coefficient of the memory cards that were downstream in the air flow. Using these mea-surements, we devised a simple calculation model, called the thermal diffusion layer model, to calculate the heat transfer coefficient of multiple rows of memory cards. The rise in temperature of downstream memory cards due to higher temperature air can be evaluated with a parameter representing the delay of thermal mixing for air. The heat transfer coefficient calculated with the thermal diffusion layer model agreed with our experimental results.展开更多

We analyzed the effect of control of ventilation, sprinkler water, and solar radiation?shielding on changes of temperature and humidity in a greenhouse under various desert area conditions. We calculated the changes in temperature and humidity in a greenhouse for a whole day in four seasons, and the calculation results of water consumption with and without a greenhouse were compared. When ventilation, shielding, and sprinkler water were controlled under suitable conditions to grow orchids in a desert area, water consumption in July was only 7% of that without a greenhouse.展开更多

We numerically calculated and experimentally measured the forced convection heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop of a diamond-shaped fin-array with water flow in this study, which had been reported to have a self-induced flip-flop flow phenomenon. Although the flip-flop flow phenomenon occurred in calculations, it was not observed in experiments. The heat transfer and pressure drop of the diamond-shaped fin-array could be estimated with equations for turbulent flow in tubes.展开更多

Thermosyphon-type vertical loop heat pipe and capillary-pump-type horizontal loop heat pipe were calculated by examining the change of heating rate of two evaporators. Calculation results showed that the vapor and liquid flow rates in the loop heat pipe and the thermal conductance of the heat pipe changed significantly depending on the distribution ratio of the heating rate of the multiple evaporators. The thermal performance of the vertical loop heat pipe with two evaporators was also examined and experimental results of flow direction and thermal conductance of the heat pipe agreed with the analytical results. The lumped network model analysis is therefore considered accurate and preferable for the practical design of a loop heat pipe with multiple evaporators.展开更多
