Weather conditions play a pivotal role in embryo development and parental incubation costs,potentially impacting the clutch size and incubation behavior of birds.Understanding these effects is crucial for bird conserv...Weather conditions play a pivotal role in embryo development and parental incubation costs,potentially impacting the clutch size and incubation behavior of birds.Understanding these effects is crucial for bird conservation.Reeves’ s Pheasant(Syrmaticus reevesii) is a threatened species endemic to China,which is characterized by female-only incubation.However,there is a lack of information regarding the impact of weather conditions on clutch size and incubation behavior in this species.Using satellite tracking,we tracked 27 wild female Reeves’ s Pheasants from 2020 to 2023 in Hubei Province,China.We explored their clutch size and incubation behavior,as well as their responses to ambient temperature and precipitation.Clutch size averaged 7.75 ±1.36,had an association with average ambient temperature and average daily precipitation during the egglaying period,and was potentially linked to female breeding attempts.Throughout the incubation period,females took an average of 0.73 ±0.46 recesses every 24 h,with an average recess duration of 100.80 ±73.37 min and an average nest attendance of 92.98 ±5.27%.They showed a unimodal recess pattern in which nest departures peaked primarily between 13:00 and 16:00.Furthermore,females rarely left nests when daily precipitation was high.Recess duration and nest attendance were influenced by the interaction between daily mean ambient temperature and daily precipitation,as well as day of incubation.Additionally,there was a positive correlation between clutch size and recess duration.These results contribute valuable insights into the lifehistory features of this endangered species.展开更多
Rechargeable Mg-ion batteries(MIBs)have attracted much more attentions by virtue of the high capacity from the two electrons chemistry.However,the reversible Mg^(2+)diffusion in cathode materials is restricted by the ...Rechargeable Mg-ion batteries(MIBs)have attracted much more attentions by virtue of the high capacity from the two electrons chemistry.However,the reversible Mg^(2+)diffusion in cathode materials is restricted by the strong interactions between the high-polarized bivalent Mg^(2+)ions and anionic lattice.Herein,we design and propose a hetero-structural VO_(2)(R)-VS_(4)cathode,in which the re-delocalized d-electrons can effectively shield the polarity of Mg^(2+)ions.Theoretically,the electrons should spontaneously transfer from VS_(4)to VO_(2)(R)through the interfaces of hetero-structure due to the lower work function value of VS_(4).Furthermore,the internal electrons transfer lead to the electronic injection into VO_(2)(R)from VS_(4)and the partially broken V-V dimers,indicating the presence of lone pair electrons and charge re-delocalization.Benefiting from the shield effect of re-delocalized electrons,and the weakened attraction between cations and O/S anions enables more S^(2-)-S_(2)^(2-)redox groups to participate the electrochemical reactions and compensate the double charge of Mg^(2+)ions.Accordingly,VO_(2)(R)-VS_(4)hetero-structure exhibits a high specific capacity of 554 mA h g^(-1)at 50 mA g^(-1).It is believed that the charge re-delocalization of cathode extremely boost the Mg^(2+)ions migration for the high-capacity of MIBs.展开更多

However, the operation of gyroscopes at the exceptional point(EP) is challenging due to strict fabrication requirements and experimental uncertainties. We propose a new quasi-APT-symmetric micro-optical gyroscope which can be operated at the EP by easily shifting the Kerr nonlinearity. A single resonator is used as the core sensitive component of the quasi-APT-symmetric optical gyroscope to reduce the size, overcome the strict structural requirements and detect small rotation rates. Moreover, the proposed scheme also has an easy readout method for the frequency splitting. As a result, the device achieves a frequency splitting 10~5 times higher than that of a classical resonant optical gyroscope with the Earth's rotation. This proposal paves the way for a new and valuable method for the engineering of micro-optical gyroscopes.展开更多

The aims of this stud...Postoperative radiotherapy (PRT) is widely advocated for patients with squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck that are considered to be at high risk of recurrence after surgical resection. The aims of this study were to evaluate the treatment outcomes of PRT for patients with laryngeal carcinoma and to identify the value of several prognostic factors. We reviewed the records of 256 patients treated for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma between January 1993 and December 2005. Disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Log-rank test was employed to identify significant prognostic factors for DFS and OS. The Cox proportional hazards model was applied to identify covariates significantly associated with the aforementioned endpoints. Our results showed the 3-, 5-, and 10-year DFS for all patients were 69.9%, 59.5%, and 34.9%, respectively. The 3-, 5-, and 10-year OS rates were 80.8%, 68.6%, and 38.8%, respectively. Significant prognostic factors for both DFS and OS on univariate analysis were grade, primary site, T stage, N stage, overall stage, lymph node metastasis, overall treatment times of radiation, the interval between surgery and radiotherapy, and radiotherapy equipment. Favorable prognostic factors for both DFS and OS on multivariate analysis were lower overall stage, no cervical lymph node metastasis, and using 60Co as radiotherapy equipment. In conclusion, our data suggest that lower overall stage, no cervical lymph node metastasis, and using 60Co as radiotherapy equipment are favorable prognostic factors for DFS and OS and that reducing the overall treatment times of radiation to 6 weeks or less and the interval between surgery and radiotherapy to less than 3 weeks are simple measures to remarkably improve treatment outcome.展开更多
Objective:In this study,we aimed to develop an amino-terminal fragment(ATF)peptide-targeted liposome carryingβ-elemene(ATF24-PEG-Lipo-β-E)for targeted delivery into urokinase plasminogen activator receptor-overexpre...Objective:In this study,we aimed to develop an amino-terminal fragment(ATF)peptide-targeted liposome carryingβ-elemene(ATF24-PEG-Lipo-β-E)for targeted delivery into urokinase plasminogen activator receptor-overexpressing bladder cancer cells combined with cisplatin(DDP)for bladder cancer treatment.Methods:The liposomes were prepared by ethanol injection and high-pressure microjet homogenization.The liposomes were characterized,and the drug content,entrapment efficiency,andin vitro release were studied.The targeting efficiency was investigated using confocal microscopy,ultra-fast liquid chromatography,and an orthotopic bladder cancer model.The effects of ATF24-PEG-Lipo-β-E combined with DDP on cell viability and proliferation were evaluated by a Cell Counting Kit-8(CCK-8)assay,a colony formation assay,and cell apoptosis and cell cycle analyses.The anticancer effects were evaluated in a KU-19-19 bladder cancer xenograft model.Results:ATF24-PEG-Lipo-β-E had small and uniform sizes(~79 nm),high drug loading capacity(~5.24 mg/mL),high entrapment efficiency(98.37±0.95%),and exhibited sustained drug release behavior.ATF24-PEG-Lipo-β-E had better targeting efficiency and higher cytotoxicity than polyethylene glycol(PEG)ylatedβ-elemene liposomes(PEG-Lipo-β-E).DDP,combined with ATF24-PEG-Lipo-β-E,exerted a synergistic effect on cellular apoptosis and cell arrest at the G2/M phase,and these effects were dependent on the caspase-dependent pathway and Cdc25C/Cdc2/cyclin B1 pathways.Furthermore,thein vivo antitumor activity showed that the targeted liposomes effectively inhibited the growth of tumors,using the combined strategy.Conclusions:The present study provided an effective strategy for the targeted delivery ofβ-elemene(β-E)to bladder cancer,and a combined strategy for bladder cancer treatment.展开更多
The performance of an iodine radio ion thruster with a 4 cm diameter(IRIT4)was studied experimentally in this paper.Regulation of the mass flow rates of the iodine propellant is achieved by using a temperature control...The performance of an iodine radio ion thruster with a 4 cm diameter(IRIT4)was studied experimentally in this paper.Regulation of the mass flow rates of the iodine propellant is achieved by using a temperature control method of the iodine reservoir.Performance of the thruster using iodine as propellants is obtained at different total thruster powers of 40.6–128.8 W,different grid voltages of 1000–1800 V and the iodine flow rate of 100μgs^(-1).Results show that thrust and specific impulse increase approximately linearly with the increasing total thruster power and the screen grid voltage.The thrust of 2.32 mN and the specific impulse of 2361 s are obtained at the nominal total thruster power of 95.8 W and the screen grid voltage of 1800 V.It is also indicated that performance of the iodine propellant is comparable to that of the xenon propellant;and a difference between them is that the iodine thrust is slightly higher than xenon when the total thruster power is more than 62 W.At the nominal 95.8 W total thruster power,the thrust values of them are 2.32 m N and 2.15 mN respectively,and the thrust-to-power ratios of them are 24.2 mN kW^(-1)and 23.5 mN kW^(-1),respectively.展开更多

However, volume expansion with the ‘‘liquid-solid-liquid”transformation process still leads to un-controlled electrode failure, which stimulates the irreversibility of liquid metal and hinders their self-healing effect as the anode for lithium-ion batteries. Herein, the polypyrrole(PPy) with highly conductive and adhesive features is first introduced to fasten the liquid metal nanoparticles(gallium-tin alloy, EGaSn) in the integrated electrode and applied as the anode for lithium-ion batteries. A tightly PPy wrapped EGaSn nanoparticles structure is formed during the in-situ polymerization synthesis process, which effectively avoids the detachment of solid alloyed products. Based on the features of PPy, polyacrylic acid is added to facilitate strengthening the integrity of the electrode by constructing the hydrogen bond. The ‘‘dual-insurance” design endows the EGaSn to exhibit superior electrochemical kinetics and an astonishing self-healing effect. As a result, the customized anode displays superior cycling stability(499.8 mAh g^(-1) after 500 cycles at 1.0 A g^(-1))and rate capability(350 mAh g^(-1) at 2.0 A g^(-1)).This work enriches the electrode engineering technology of liquid metal nanoparticles and opens up a new way to customize the self-healing anode for lithium-ion batteries.展开更多

The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between the ABO blood group and clinico?pathologic characteristics of patients with laryngeal cancer and assess whether the ABO blood group was associated with prognosis.Methods: We analyzed the records of 1260 patients with laryngeal cancer who underwent curative treatment at Sun Yat?sen University Cancer Center between January 1993 and December 2009. The Chi?square test was used to assess the relationship between the ABO blood group and clinicopathologic characteristics. The Kaplan–Meier method was used to estimate 3?, 5?, and 10?year overall survival(OS) rates. The Cox proportional hazards model was used in univariate and multivariate analyses of OS.Results: No signiicant association was found between the ABO blood group and clinicopathologic characteristics except for primary tumor site. The median OS for patients with blood groups A, B, AB, and O were 87.0, 80.0, 90.0, and 72.5 months, respectively. The 3?, 5?, and 10?year OS rates were 82.4%, 76.0%, and 67.5% for patients with blood group A; 77.4%, 69.8%, and 58.4% for patients with blood group B; 82.2%, 73.1%, and 65.6% for patients with blood group AB; and 71.7%, 66.4%, and 55.5% for patients with blood group O, respectively. Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that the ABO blood group had signiicant efects on prognosis in patients with laryngeal cancer.Conclusions: The ABO blood group is associated with survival in patients with laryngeal cancer. Patients with blood group O had signiicantly shorter OS than patients with other ABO blood groups.展开更多

The treatments for GAVE include surgery, endoscopy and medical therapies. Here, we report an unusual case of GAVE. A 72-year-old man with a three-month history of recurrent melena was diagnosed with GAVE. Endoscopy revealed the classical “watermelon stomach” appearance of GAVE and complete pyloric involvement. Melena reoccurred three days after argon plasma coagulation treatment, and the level of hemoglobin dropped to 47 g/L. The patient was then successfully treated with distal gastrectomy with Billroth II anastomosis. We propose that surgery should be considered as an effective option for GAVE patients with extensive and severe lesions upon deterioration of general conditions and hemodynamic instability.展开更多

They reported that compared with the patients with blood group non-O,patients with blood group O had significantly shorter OS.However, there is no satisfactory explanation why laryngeal cancer patients with blood group O had shorter OS.Blood group antigens are expressed on the surface of red blood cells and numerous other tissues throughout the body, including different types of cancer cells as well [2].These A or B antigens located on laryngeal cancer cell surface may be recognized from the immune system as antigenic foci. Hence, laryngeal cancer cells carrying A or B or both antigens could be destroyed by the immune system. BACKGROUND Small cell lung cancer(SCLC)accounts for 15%of lung cancers,and it commonly expresses peptide and protein factors that are active as hormones.These secreting factors manifest as paraneoplastic disorders,suc...BACKGROUND Small cell lung cancer(SCLC)accounts for 15%of lung cancers,and it commonly expresses peptide and protein factors that are active as hormones.These secreting factors manifest as paraneoplastic disorders,such as ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormone(ACTH)syndrome(EAS).The clinical features are abnormalities in carbohydrate metabolism,hypokalemia,peripheral edema,proximal myopathy,hypertension,hyperpigmentation,and severe systemic infection.However,it is uncommon that EAS has an influence on hypothalamus-pituitary function.CASE SUMMARY A 62-year-old man presented with complaints of haemoptysis,polyuria,polydipsia,increased appetite,weight loss,and pigmentation.Following a series of laboratory and imaging examinations,he was diagnosed with SCLC,EAS,hypogonadism,hypothyroidism,and central diabetes insipidus.After three rounds of chemotherapy,levels of ACTH,cortisol,thyroid hormone,gonadal hormone,and urine volume had returned to normal levels.In addition,the pulmonary tumor was reduced in size.CONCLUSION We report a rare case of SCLC complicated with panhypopituitarism due to EAS.We hypothesize that EAS induced high levels of serum glucocorticoid and negative feedback for the synthesis and secretion of antidiuretic hormone from the paraventricular nucleus,and trophic hormones from the anterior pituitary.Therefore,patients who present with symptoms of hypopituitarism,or even panhypopituitarism,with SCLC should be evaluated for EAS.展开更多

Here, full-chain enhanced ion transport for stabilizing Li metal anodes is proposed. Experimental and theoretical studies confirm that full-chain enhanced ion transport(electrocrystallization, mass transport in the electrolyte and diffusion in solid electrolyte interphase) under magnetoelectrochemistry contributes to a homogeneous, dense, and dendrite-free morphology. Specifically, the enhanced electrocrystallization behavior promotes the Li nucleation;the enhanced mass transport in the electrolyte alleviates the ion concentration gradient at the electrode surface, which helps to inhibit dendrite growth;and the enhanced diffusion in the solid electrolyte interphase further homogenizes the Li deposition behavior, obtaining regular and uniform Li particles.Consequently, the Li metal anode has exceptional cycling stability in both symmetric and full cells,and the pouch cell performs long cycles(170 cycles) in practice evaluation. This work advances fundamental knowledge of the magneto-dendrite effect and offers a new perspective on stabilizing metal anodes.展开更多

Ferroptosis is a non-apoptotic regulated cell death caused by iron accumulation and subsequent lipid peroxidation.Currently,the therapeutic role of ferroptosis on cancer is gaining increasing interest.Baicalin an acti...Ferroptosis is a non-apoptotic regulated cell death caused by iron accumulation and subsequent lipid peroxidation.Currently,the therapeutic role of ferroptosis on cancer is gaining increasing interest.Baicalin an active component in Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi with anticancer potential various cancer types;however,the effects of baicalein on bladder cancer and the underlying molecular mechanisms remain largely unknown.In the study,we investigated the effect of baicalin on bladder cancer cells5637 and KU-19-19.As a result,we show baicalin exerted its anticancer activity by inducing apoptosis and cell death in bladder cancer cells.Subsequently,we for the first time demonstrate baicalin-induced ferroptotic cell death in vitro and in vivo,accompanied by reactive oxygen species(ROS) accumulation and intracellular chelate iron enrichment.The ferroptosis inhibitor deferoxamine but not necrostatin-1,chloroquine(CQ),N-acetyl-L-cysteine,L-glutathione reduced,or carbobenzoxy-valyl-alanyl-aspartyl-[O-methyl]-fluoromethylketone(Z-VAD-FMK) rescued baicalin-induced cell death,indicating ferroptosis contributed to baicalin-induced cell death.Mechanistically,we show that ferritin heavy chain1(FTH1) was a key determinant for baicalin-induced ferroptosis.Overexpression of FTH1 abrogated the anticancer effects of baicalin in both 5637 and KU19-19 cells.Taken together,our data for the first time suggest that the natural product baicalin exerts its anticancer activity by inducing FTH1-dependent ferroptosis,which will hopefully provide a prospective compound for bladder cancer treatment.展开更多
Dispersal is an important life history trait that plays a crucial role in avoiding inbreeding.Uncovering the dispersal pattern of a threatened species facilitates conservation efforts.Most species of Galliformes are f...Dispersal is an important life history trait that plays a crucial role in avoiding inbreeding.Uncovering the dispersal pattern of a threatened species facilitates conservation efforts.Most species of Galliformes are forest-dwelling terrestrial birds with a weak dispersal ability and high conservation priorities.However,little is known about the dispersal behavior and dispersal pattern of Galliformes species such as Reeves's pheasant Syrmaticus reevesi,a globally vulnerable species endemic to China.Here,we integrated behavioral and genetic analyses to inves-tigate the dispersal pattern of Reeves's pheasant.Our results revealed that both females and males would disperse,although the overall dispersal pattern was more likely to be male-biased.Reeves's pheasant population had a low level of genetic diversity and a mild level of inbreeding.Speculation low genetic diversity was resulted from fragmented habitat,and male-biased dispersal may reduce the opportunity of inbreeding.Our research indicated that sex-biased dispersal patterns may be a behavioral mechanism adopted by wildlife to avoid inbreeding inafragmented habitat.展开更多
Ferroptosis,a novel form of programmed cell death,is characterized by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation and has been shown to be involved in multiple diseases,including cancer.Stimulating ferroptosis in cancer cells m...Ferroptosis,a novel form of programmed cell death,is characterized by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation and has been shown to be involved in multiple diseases,including cancer.Stimulating ferroptosis in cancer cells may be a potential strategy for cancer therapy.Therefore,ferroptosis-inducing drugs are attracting more attention for cancer treatment.Here,we showed that erianin,a natural product isolated from Dendrobium chrysotoxum Lindl,exerted its anticancer activity by inducing cell death and inhibiting cell migration in lung cancer cells.Subsequently,we demonstrated for the first time that erianin induced ferroptotic cell death in lung cancer cells,which was accompanied by ROS accumulation,lipid peroxidation,and GSH depletion.The ferroptosis inhibitors Fer-1 and Lip-1 but not Z-VAD-FMK,CQ,or necrostatin-1 rescued erianin-induced cell death,indicating that ferroptosis contributed to erianin-induced cell death.Furthermore,we demonstrated that Ca^(2+)/CaM signaling was a critical mediator of erianin-induced ferroptosis and that blockade of this signaling significantly rescued cell death induced by erianin treatment by suppressing ferroptosis.Taken together,our data suggest that the natural product erianin exerts its anticancer effects by inducing Ca^(2+)/CaMdependent ferroptosis and inhibiting cell migration,and erianin will hopefully serve as a prospective compound for lung cancer treatment.展开更多

This study was conducted toevaluate the information obtained from endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) to determine the appropriate endoscopicdissection method for treating SMTs originating in the MP layer. Between February 2014 and May 2016, a total of 50patients with gastric SMTs originating in the MP layer were enrolled in this study. The clinical features of the patientsand their endoscopic, EUS, and histopathologic findings, as well as their postoperative follow-up data, were analyzedin this retrospective study. The mean age of the patients was (55.0±10.2) years, and the male/female ratio was 17:33.Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) was performed on 43 patients and an endoscopic full-thickness resection(EFR) was performed on seven patients. The most frequent location for an SMT was in the upper body region of thestomach (n=16), and the most common pathological diagnosis was a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) (n=32).The overall rates for complete resection were 95.3% (41/43) and 100.0% (7/7) when the SMTs were treated by ESDand EFR, respectively. The presence of a complete tumor capsule was significantly associated with a complete re-section (P=0.001). Of the cases treated by ESD, nine patients developed perforation, one of whom required laparo-scopic surgery. The remaining patients were closed with clips or purse-string sutures. The presence of an MP2-typetumor (P=0.018) and a wide connection with the MP layer (P=0.044) were significantly associated with perforation. Apreoperative evaluation of the integrity and the location of a tumor capsule and the length of the tumor connection withthe MP layer by EUS can improve the complete resection rate and reduce the occurrence of intraoperative complica-tions. Tumors with a complete capsule originating from the superficial MP layer or with a narrow connection with theMP layer are appropriate candidates for treatment by ESD.展开更多
Benefiting from the distinctive ordering degree and local microstructure characteristics,hard carbon(HC)is considered as the most promising anode for sodium-ion batteries(SIBs).Unfortunately,the low initial Coulombic ...Benefiting from the distinctive ordering degree and local microstructure characteristics,hard carbon(HC)is considered as the most promising anode for sodium-ion batteries(SIBs).Unfortunately,the low initial Coulombic efficiency(ICE)and limited reversible capacity severely impede its extensive application.Here,a homogeneous curly graphene(CG)layer with a micropore structure on HC is designed and executed by a simple chemical vapor deposition method(without catalysts).CG not only improves the electronic/ionic conductivity of the hard carbon but also effectively shields its surface defects,enhancing its ICE.In particular,due to the spontaneous curling structural characteristics of CG sheets(CGs),the micropores(≤2 nm)formed provide additional active sites,increasing its capacity.When used as a sodium-ion battery anode,the HC-CG composite anode displayed an outstanding reversible capacity of 358 mAh·g^(-1),superior ICE of 88.6%,remarkable rate performance of 145.8 mAh·g^(-1)at 5 A·g^(-1),and long cycling life after 1000 cycles with 88.6%at 1 A·g^(-1).This work provides a simple defect/microstructure turning strategy for hard carbon anodes and deepens the understanding of Na+storage behavior in the plateau region,especially on the pore-filling mechanism by forming quasi-metallic clusters.展开更多

文摘Weather conditions play a pivotal role in embryo development and parental incubation costs,potentially impacting the clutch size and incubation behavior of birds.Understanding these effects is crucial for bird conservation.Reeves’ s Pheasant(Syrmaticus reevesii) is a threatened species endemic to China,which is characterized by female-only incubation.However,there is a lack of information regarding the impact of weather conditions on clutch size and incubation behavior in this species.Using satellite tracking,we tracked 27 wild female Reeves’ s Pheasants from 2020 to 2023 in Hubei Province,China.We explored their clutch size and incubation behavior,as well as their responses to ambient temperature and precipitation.Clutch size averaged 7.75 ±1.36,had an association with average ambient temperature and average daily precipitation during the egglaying period,and was potentially linked to female breeding attempts.Throughout the incubation period,females took an average of 0.73 ±0.46 recesses every 24 h,with an average recess duration of 100.80 ±73.37 min and an average nest attendance of 92.98 ±5.27%.They showed a unimodal recess pattern in which nest departures peaked primarily between 13:00 and 16:00.Furthermore,females rarely left nests when daily precipitation was high.Recess duration and nest attendance were influenced by the interaction between daily mean ambient temperature and daily precipitation,as well as day of incubation.Additionally,there was a positive correlation between clutch size and recess duration.These results contribute valuable insights into the lifehistory features of this endangered species.

文摘Rechargeable Mg-ion batteries(MIBs)have attracted much more attentions by virtue of the high capacity from the two electrons chemistry.However,the reversible Mg^(2+)diffusion in cathode materials is restricted by the strong interactions between the high-polarized bivalent Mg^(2+)ions and anionic lattice.Herein,we design and propose a hetero-structural VO_(2)(R)-VS_(4)cathode,in which the re-delocalized d-electrons can effectively shield the polarity of Mg^(2+)ions.Theoretically,the electrons should spontaneously transfer from VS_(4)to VO_(2)(R)through the interfaces of hetero-structure due to the lower work function value of VS_(4).Furthermore,the internal electrons transfer lead to the electronic injection into VO_(2)(R)from VS_(4)and the partially broken V-V dimers,indicating the presence of lone pair electrons and charge re-delocalization.Benefiting from the shield effect of re-delocalized electrons,and the weakened attraction between cations and O/S anions enables more S^(2-)-S_(2)^(2-)redox groups to participate the electrochemical reactions and compensate the double charge of Mg^(2+)ions.Accordingly,VO_(2)(R)-VS_(4)hetero-structure exhibits a high specific capacity of 554 mA h g^(-1)at 50 mA g^(-1).It is believed that the charge re-delocalization of cathode extremely boost the Mg^(2+)ions migration for the high-capacity of MIBs.

文摘Parity–time(PT) and quasi-anti-parity–time(quasi-APT) symmetric optical gyroscopes have been proposed recently which enhance Sagnac frequency splitting. However, the operation of gyroscopes at the exceptional point(EP) is challenging due to strict fabrication requirements and experimental uncertainties. We propose a new quasi-APT-symmetric micro-optical gyroscope which can be operated at the EP by easily shifting the Kerr nonlinearity. A single resonator is used as the core sensitive component of the quasi-APT-symmetric optical gyroscope to reduce the size, overcome the strict structural requirements and detect small rotation rates. Moreover, the proposed scheme also has an easy readout method for the frequency splitting. As a result, the device achieves a frequency splitting 10~5 times higher than that of a classical resonant optical gyroscope with the Earth's rotation. This proposal paves the way for a new and valuable method for the engineering of micro-optical gyroscopes.

文摘Postoperative radiotherapy (PRT) is widely advocated for patients with squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck that are considered to be at high risk of recurrence after surgical resection. The aims of this study were to evaluate the treatment outcomes of PRT for patients with laryngeal carcinoma and to identify the value of several prognostic factors. We reviewed the records of 256 patients treated for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma between January 1993 and December 2005. Disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Log-rank test was employed to identify significant prognostic factors for DFS and OS. The Cox proportional hazards model was applied to identify covariates significantly associated with the aforementioned endpoints. Our results showed the 3-, 5-, and 10-year DFS for all patients were 69.9%, 59.5%, and 34.9%, respectively. The 3-, 5-, and 10-year OS rates were 80.8%, 68.6%, and 38.8%, respectively. Significant prognostic factors for both DFS and OS on univariate analysis were grade, primary site, T stage, N stage, overall stage, lymph node metastasis, overall treatment times of radiation, the interval between surgery and radiotherapy, and radiotherapy equipment. Favorable prognostic factors for both DFS and OS on multivariate analysis were lower overall stage, no cervical lymph node metastasis, and using 60Co as radiotherapy equipment. In conclusion, our data suggest that lower overall stage, no cervical lymph node metastasis, and using 60Co as radiotherapy equipment are favorable prognostic factors for DFS and OS and that reducing the overall treatment times of radiation to 6 weeks or less and the interval between surgery and radiotherapy to less than 3 weeks are simple measures to remarkably improve treatment outcome.

文摘Objective:In this study,we aimed to develop an amino-terminal fragment(ATF)peptide-targeted liposome carryingβ-elemene(ATF24-PEG-Lipo-β-E)for targeted delivery into urokinase plasminogen activator receptor-overexpressing bladder cancer cells combined with cisplatin(DDP)for bladder cancer treatment.Methods:The liposomes were prepared by ethanol injection and high-pressure microjet homogenization.The liposomes were characterized,and the drug content,entrapment efficiency,andin vitro release were studied.The targeting efficiency was investigated using confocal microscopy,ultra-fast liquid chromatography,and an orthotopic bladder cancer model.The effects of ATF24-PEG-Lipo-β-E combined with DDP on cell viability and proliferation were evaluated by a Cell Counting Kit-8(CCK-8)assay,a colony formation assay,and cell apoptosis and cell cycle analyses.The anticancer effects were evaluated in a KU-19-19 bladder cancer xenograft model.Results:ATF24-PEG-Lipo-β-E had small and uniform sizes(~79 nm),high drug loading capacity(~5.24 mg/mL),high entrapment efficiency(98.37±0.95%),and exhibited sustained drug release behavior.ATF24-PEG-Lipo-β-E had better targeting efficiency and higher cytotoxicity than polyethylene glycol(PEG)ylatedβ-elemene liposomes(PEG-Lipo-β-E).DDP,combined with ATF24-PEG-Lipo-β-E,exerted a synergistic effect on cellular apoptosis and cell arrest at the G2/M phase,and these effects were dependent on the caspase-dependent pathway and Cdc25C/Cdc2/cyclin B1 pathways.Furthermore,thein vivo antitumor activity showed that the targeted liposomes effectively inhibited the growth of tumors,using the combined strategy.Conclusions:The present study provided an effective strategy for the targeted delivery ofβ-elemene(β-E)to bladder cancer,and a combined strategy for bladder cancer treatment.

文摘The performance of an iodine radio ion thruster with a 4 cm diameter(IRIT4)was studied experimentally in this paper.Regulation of the mass flow rates of the iodine propellant is achieved by using a temperature control method of the iodine reservoir.Performance of the thruster using iodine as propellants is obtained at different total thruster powers of 40.6–128.8 W,different grid voltages of 1000–1800 V and the iodine flow rate of 100μgs^(-1).Results show that thrust and specific impulse increase approximately linearly with the increasing total thruster power and the screen grid voltage.The thrust of 2.32 mN and the specific impulse of 2361 s are obtained at the nominal total thruster power of 95.8 W and the screen grid voltage of 1800 V.It is also indicated that performance of the iodine propellant is comparable to that of the xenon propellant;and a difference between them is that the iodine thrust is slightly higher than xenon when the total thruster power is more than 62 W.At the nominal 95.8 W total thruster power,the thrust values of them are 2.32 m N and 2.15 mN respectively,and the thrust-to-power ratios of them are 24.2 mN kW^(-1)and 23.5 mN kW^(-1),respectively.

文摘This paper reports the ignition performance of the iodine-fueled radio frequency(RF)ion thruster(IRIT)at different anode temperaturesT_(a0).The experimental results show that the anode temperature plays important role on the ignition process of the IRIT.There were two characteristic temperatures related to the anode:the minimum ignition temperatureT_(i0)and the stable ignition temperatureT_(is),which were much lower than the pipeline temperature and the storage tank temperature.AtT_(a0)<T_(i0),it failed to discharge.WhenT_(i0)≤T_(a0)<T_(is),it was ignited with dramatical oscillations.AtT_(a0)≥T_(is),the discharge was stable in a large anode temperature range.The analysis showed that the different discharge phenomena at different anode temperatures were attributed to the change of iodine flow rate during the process of the iodine deposition-clogging and sublimation-clearing inside the thruster.The research helps improve the preheating design of the iodine-fueled electric thruster.

文摘The gallium-based liquid metal as one of the self-healing materials has gained wide attention, especially in the energy storage system. However, volume expansion with the ‘‘liquid-solid-liquid”transformation process still leads to un-controlled electrode failure, which stimulates the irreversibility of liquid metal and hinders their self-healing effect as the anode for lithium-ion batteries. Herein, the polypyrrole(PPy) with highly conductive and adhesive features is first introduced to fasten the liquid metal nanoparticles(gallium-tin alloy, EGaSn) in the integrated electrode and applied as the anode for lithium-ion batteries. A tightly PPy wrapped EGaSn nanoparticles structure is formed during the in-situ polymerization synthesis process, which effectively avoids the detachment of solid alloyed products. Based on the features of PPy, polyacrylic acid is added to facilitate strengthening the integrity of the electrode by constructing the hydrogen bond. The ‘‘dual-insurance” design endows the EGaSn to exhibit superior electrochemical kinetics and an astonishing self-healing effect. As a result, the customized anode displays superior cycling stability(499.8 mAh g^(-1) after 500 cycles at 1.0 A g^(-1))and rate capability(350 mAh g^(-1) at 2.0 A g^(-1)).This work enriches the electrode engineering technology of liquid metal nanoparticles and opens up a new way to customize the self-healing anode for lithium-ion batteries.

文摘Background: Whether the ABO blood group is associated with the survival of patients with laryngeal cancer remains unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between the ABO blood group and clinico?pathologic characteristics of patients with laryngeal cancer and assess whether the ABO blood group was associated with prognosis.Methods: We analyzed the records of 1260 patients with laryngeal cancer who underwent curative treatment at Sun Yat?sen University Cancer Center between January 1993 and December 2009. The Chi?square test was used to assess the relationship between the ABO blood group and clinicopathologic characteristics. The Kaplan–Meier method was used to estimate 3?, 5?, and 10?year overall survival(OS) rates. The Cox proportional hazards model was used in univariate and multivariate analyses of OS.Results: No signiicant association was found between the ABO blood group and clinicopathologic characteristics except for primary tumor site. The median OS for patients with blood groups A, B, AB, and O were 87.0, 80.0, 90.0, and 72.5 months, respectively. The 3?, 5?, and 10?year OS rates were 82.4%, 76.0%, and 67.5% for patients with blood group A; 77.4%, 69.8%, and 58.4% for patients with blood group B; 82.2%, 73.1%, and 65.6% for patients with blood group AB; and 71.7%, 66.4%, and 55.5% for patients with blood group O, respectively. Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that the ABO blood group had signiicant efects on prognosis in patients with laryngeal cancer.Conclusions: The ABO blood group is associated with survival in patients with laryngeal cancer. Patients with blood group O had signiicantly shorter OS than patients with other ABO blood groups.
文摘Gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE) is an uncommon and often neglected cause of gastric hemorrhage. The treatments for GAVE include surgery, endoscopy and medical therapies. Here, we report an unusual case of GAVE. A 72-year-old man with a three-month history of recurrent melena was diagnosed with GAVE. Endoscopy revealed the classical “watermelon stomach” appearance of GAVE and complete pyloric involvement. Melena reoccurred three days after argon plasma coagulation treatment, and the level of hemoglobin dropped to 47 g/L. The patient was then successfully treated with distal gastrectomy with Billroth II anastomosis. We propose that surgery should be considered as an effective option for GAVE patients with extensive and severe lesions upon deterioration of general conditions and hemodynamic instability.
文摘To The Editor,I want to congratulate Jin and colleagues for their article entitled “ABO blood group is a predictor of survival in patients with laryngeal cancer” recently reported in Chinese Journal of Cancer, in which they assessed whether the ABO blood group was associated with prognosis in patients with laryngeal cancer [1]. They reported that compared with the patients with blood group non-O,patients with blood group O had significantly shorter OS.However, there is no satisfactory explanation why laryngeal cancer patients with blood group O had shorter OS.Blood group antigens are expressed on the surface of red blood cells and numerous other tissues throughout the body, including different types of cancer cells as well [2].These A or B antigens located on laryngeal cancer cell surface may be recognized from the immune system as antigenic foci. Hence, laryngeal cancer cells carrying A or B or both antigens could be destroyed by the immune system. On the other hand, laryngeal cancer cells harboring neither A nor B antigens, so-called type O cancer cells may not be recognized by immune cells and therefore may escape from immune destruction.

文摘BACKGROUND Small cell lung cancer(SCLC)accounts for 15%of lung cancers,and it commonly expresses peptide and protein factors that are active as hormones.These secreting factors manifest as paraneoplastic disorders,such as ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormone(ACTH)syndrome(EAS).The clinical features are abnormalities in carbohydrate metabolism,hypokalemia,peripheral edema,proximal myopathy,hypertension,hyperpigmentation,and severe systemic infection.However,it is uncommon that EAS has an influence on hypothalamus-pituitary function.CASE SUMMARY A 62-year-old man presented with complaints of haemoptysis,polyuria,polydipsia,increased appetite,weight loss,and pigmentation.Following a series of laboratory and imaging examinations,he was diagnosed with SCLC,EAS,hypogonadism,hypothyroidism,and central diabetes insipidus.After three rounds of chemotherapy,levels of ACTH,cortisol,thyroid hormone,gonadal hormone,and urine volume had returned to normal levels.In addition,the pulmonary tumor was reduced in size.CONCLUSION We report a rare case of SCLC complicated with panhypopituitarism due to EAS.We hypothesize that EAS induced high levels of serum glucocorticoid and negative feedback for the synthesis and secretion of antidiuretic hormone from the paraventricular nucleus,and trophic hormones from the anterior pituitary.Therefore,patients who present with symptoms of hypopituitarism,or even panhypopituitarism,with SCLC should be evaluated for EAS.

文摘The dendrite growth that results from the slow electrode process kinetics prevents the lithium(Li) metal anode from being used in practical applications. Here, full-chain enhanced ion transport for stabilizing Li metal anodes is proposed. Experimental and theoretical studies confirm that full-chain enhanced ion transport(electrocrystallization, mass transport in the electrolyte and diffusion in solid electrolyte interphase) under magnetoelectrochemistry contributes to a homogeneous, dense, and dendrite-free morphology. Specifically, the enhanced electrocrystallization behavior promotes the Li nucleation;the enhanced mass transport in the electrolyte alleviates the ion concentration gradient at the electrode surface, which helps to inhibit dendrite growth;and the enhanced diffusion in the solid electrolyte interphase further homogenizes the Li deposition behavior, obtaining regular and uniform Li particles.Consequently, the Li metal anode has exceptional cycling stability in both symmetric and full cells,and the pouch cell performs long cycles(170 cycles) in practice evaluation. This work advances fundamental knowledge of the magneto-dendrite effect and offers a new perspective on stabilizing metal anodes.
文摘BACKGROUND Immunosuppressive therapy and matched sibling donor hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(MSD-HSCT)are the preferred treatments for aplastic anemia(AA).CASE SUMMARY In this report,we describe a 43-year-old male patient with severe AA who carried BRIP1(also known as FANCJ),TINF2,and TCIRG1 mutations.Screening of the family pedigree revealed the same TINF2 mutation in his mother and older brother,with his older brother also carrying the BRIP1 variant and demonstrating normal telomere length and hematopoietic function.The patient was successfully treated with oral cyclosporine A,eltrombopag,and acetylcysteine,achieving remission 4 years after receiving MSD-HSCT from his older brother.CONCLUSION This case provides a valuable clinical reference for individuals with suspected pathogenic gene mutations,normal telomere length,and hematopoietic function,highlighting them as potential donors for patients with AA.

文摘Ferroptosis is a non-apoptotic regulated cell death caused by iron accumulation and subsequent lipid peroxidation.Currently,the therapeutic role of ferroptosis on cancer is gaining increasing interest.Baicalin an active component in Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi with anticancer potential various cancer types;however,the effects of baicalein on bladder cancer and the underlying molecular mechanisms remain largely unknown.In the study,we investigated the effect of baicalin on bladder cancer cells5637 and KU-19-19.As a result,we show baicalin exerted its anticancer activity by inducing apoptosis and cell death in bladder cancer cells.Subsequently,we for the first time demonstrate baicalin-induced ferroptotic cell death in vitro and in vivo,accompanied by reactive oxygen species(ROS) accumulation and intracellular chelate iron enrichment.The ferroptosis inhibitor deferoxamine but not necrostatin-1,chloroquine(CQ),N-acetyl-L-cysteine,L-glutathione reduced,or carbobenzoxy-valyl-alanyl-aspartyl-[O-methyl]-fluoromethylketone(Z-VAD-FMK) rescued baicalin-induced cell death,indicating ferroptosis contributed to baicalin-induced cell death.Mechanistically,we show that ferritin heavy chain1(FTH1) was a key determinant for baicalin-induced ferroptosis.Overexpression of FTH1 abrogated the anticancer effects of baicalin in both 5637 and KU19-19 cells.Taken together,our data for the first time suggest that the natural product baicalin exerts its anticancer activity by inducing FTH1-dependent ferroptosis,which will hopefully provide a prospective compound for bladder cancer treatment.

文摘Dispersal is an important life history trait that plays a crucial role in avoiding inbreeding.Uncovering the dispersal pattern of a threatened species facilitates conservation efforts.Most species of Galliformes are forest-dwelling terrestrial birds with a weak dispersal ability and high conservation priorities.However,little is known about the dispersal behavior and dispersal pattern of Galliformes species such as Reeves's pheasant Syrmaticus reevesi,a globally vulnerable species endemic to China.Here,we integrated behavioral and genetic analyses to inves-tigate the dispersal pattern of Reeves's pheasant.Our results revealed that both females and males would disperse,although the overall dispersal pattern was more likely to be male-biased.Reeves's pheasant population had a low level of genetic diversity and a mild level of inbreeding.Speculation low genetic diversity was resulted from fragmented habitat,and male-biased dispersal may reduce the opportunity of inbreeding.Our research indicated that sex-biased dispersal patterns may be a behavioral mechanism adopted by wildlife to avoid inbreeding inafragmented habitat.

文摘Ferroptosis,a novel form of programmed cell death,is characterized by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation and has been shown to be involved in multiple diseases,including cancer.Stimulating ferroptosis in cancer cells may be a potential strategy for cancer therapy.Therefore,ferroptosis-inducing drugs are attracting more attention for cancer treatment.Here,we showed that erianin,a natural product isolated from Dendrobium chrysotoxum Lindl,exerted its anticancer activity by inducing cell death and inhibiting cell migration in lung cancer cells.Subsequently,we demonstrated for the first time that erianin induced ferroptotic cell death in lung cancer cells,which was accompanied by ROS accumulation,lipid peroxidation,and GSH depletion.The ferroptosis inhibitors Fer-1 and Lip-1 but not Z-VAD-FMK,CQ,or necrostatin-1 rescued erianin-induced cell death,indicating that ferroptosis contributed to erianin-induced cell death.Furthermore,we demonstrated that Ca^(2+)/CaM signaling was a critical mediator of erianin-induced ferroptosis and that blockade of this signaling significantly rescued cell death induced by erianin treatment by suppressing ferroptosis.Taken together,our data suggest that the natural product erianin exerts its anticancer effects by inducing Ca^(2+)/CaMdependent ferroptosis and inhibiting cell migration,and erianin will hopefully serve as a prospective compound for lung cancer treatment.
文摘Minimally invasive endoscopic resection has been rapidly adopted as a new technique for treating patientswith gastric submucosal tumors (SMTs) originating in the muscularis propria (MP) layer. This study was conducted toevaluate the information obtained from endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) to determine the appropriate endoscopicdissection method for treating SMTs originating in the MP layer. Between February 2014 and May 2016, a total of 50patients with gastric SMTs originating in the MP layer were enrolled in this study. The clinical features of the patientsand their endoscopic, EUS, and histopathologic findings, as well as their postoperative follow-up data, were analyzedin this retrospective study. The mean age of the patients was (55.0±10.2) years, and the male/female ratio was 17:33.Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) was performed on 43 patients and an endoscopic full-thickness resection(EFR) was performed on seven patients. The most frequent location for an SMT was in the upper body region of thestomach (n=16), and the most common pathological diagnosis was a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) (n=32).The overall rates for complete resection were 95.3% (41/43) and 100.0% (7/7) when the SMTs were treated by ESDand EFR, respectively. The presence of a complete tumor capsule was significantly associated with a complete re-section (P=0.001). Of the cases treated by ESD, nine patients developed perforation, one of whom required laparo-scopic surgery. The remaining patients were closed with clips or purse-string sutures. The presence of an MP2-typetumor (P=0.018) and a wide connection with the MP layer (P=0.044) were significantly associated with perforation. Apreoperative evaluation of the integrity and the location of a tumor capsule and the length of the tumor connection withthe MP layer by EUS can improve the complete resection rate and reduce the occurrence of intraoperative complica-tions. Tumors with a complete capsule originating from the superficial MP layer or with a narrow connection with theMP layer are appropriate candidates for treatment by ESD.

文摘Benefiting from the distinctive ordering degree and local microstructure characteristics,hard carbon(HC)is considered as the most promising anode for sodium-ion batteries(SIBs).Unfortunately,the low initial Coulombic efficiency(ICE)and limited reversible capacity severely impede its extensive application.Here,a homogeneous curly graphene(CG)layer with a micropore structure on HC is designed and executed by a simple chemical vapor deposition method(without catalysts).CG not only improves the electronic/ionic conductivity of the hard carbon but also effectively shields its surface defects,enhancing its ICE.In particular,due to the spontaneous curling structural characteristics of CG sheets(CGs),the micropores(≤2 nm)formed provide additional active sites,increasing its capacity.When used as a sodium-ion battery anode,the HC-CG composite anode displayed an outstanding reversible capacity of 358 mAh·g^(-1),superior ICE of 88.6%,remarkable rate performance of 145.8 mAh·g^(-1)at 5 A·g^(-1),and long cycling life after 1000 cycles with 88.6%at 1 A·g^(-1).This work provides a simple defect/microstructure turning strategy for hard carbon anodes and deepens the understanding of Na+storage behavior in the plateau region,especially on the pore-filling mechanism by forming quasi-metallic clusters.
