AIM:To explore the dynamic changes of prion protein (PrPc) in the process of gastric cancer drug resistance and the role of PrPc expression in the prognosis of gastric cancer patients receiving chemotherapy.METHODS:A ...AIM:To explore the dynamic changes of prion protein (PrPc) in the process of gastric cancer drug resistance and the role of PrPc expression in the prognosis of gastric cancer patients receiving chemotherapy.METHODS:A series of gastric cancer cell lines resistant to different concentrations of adriamycin was established,and the expression of PrPc,Bcl-2 and Bax was detected in these cells.Apoptosis was determined using Annexin V staining.Western blotting and immunohisto-chemistry were performed to detect the expression of PrPc in patients receiving chemotherapy and to explore the role of PrPc expression in predicting the chemosensitivity and the outcome of gastric cancer patients receiving chemotherapy.Follow-up was performed for 2 years.RESULTS:PrPc expression was increased with the increase in drug resistance.Bcl-2,together with PrPc,increased the level of anti-apoptosis of cancer cells.Increased PrPc expression predicted the enhanced level of anti-apoptosis and resistance to anticancer drugs.PrPc expression could be used as a marker for predicting the efficacy of chemotherapy and the prognosis of gastric cancer.Increased PrPc expression predicted both poor chemosensitivity and a low 2-year survival rate.Contrarily,low PrPc expression predicted favorable chemosensitivity and a relatively high 2-year survival rate.CONCLUSION:PrPc expression is associated with histological types and differentiation of gastric cancer cells;The PrPc expression level might be a valuable marker in predicting the efficacy of chemotherapy and the prognosis of gastric cancer patients receiving chemotherapy.展开更多
The relaxation time under zero field reflects the memory retention capabilities of single-molecule magnets(SMMs)when used as storage devices.Intermolecular magnetic dipole interaction is ubiquitous in aggregates of ma...The relaxation time under zero field reflects the memory retention capabilities of single-molecule magnets(SMMs)when used as storage devices.Intermolecular magnetic dipole interaction is ubiquitous in aggregates of magnetic molecules and can greatly influence relaxation times.However,such interaction is often considered harmful and challenging to manipulate in molecular solids,especially for high-performance lanthanide single-ion magnets(SIMs).By an elaborately designed combination of ion pairing and hydrogen bonding,we have synthesized two pseudo-D5h SIMs with supramolecular arrangements of magnetic dipoles in staggered and side-by-side patterns,the latter of which exhibits a 104-fold slower zero-field relaxation time at 2 K.Intriguingly,the side-by-side complex exhibits a significantly accelerated magnetic relaxation upon diamagnetic dilution,contrary to the general trend observed in the staggered complex.This strongly reveals the presence of aggregation-induced suppression of quantum tunneling in a side-by-side arrangement,which has not been observed in mononuclear SMMs.By leveraging ion-pairing aggregation and converting to a side-by-side pattern,this study successfully demonstrates an approach to transform a harmful intermolecular dipole interaction into a beneficial one,achieving aτQTM of 980 s ranking among the best-performance SMMs.展开更多
This study explored a new model of Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System(PIRADS)and adjusted prostate-specific antigen density of peripheral zone(aPSADPZ)for predicting the occurrence of prostate cancer(PCa)and c...This study explored a new model of Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System(PIRADS)and adjusted prostate-specific antigen density of peripheral zone(aPSADPZ)for predicting the occurrence of prostate cancer(PCa)and clinically significant prostate cancer(csPCa).The demographic and clinical characteristics of 853 patients were recorded.Prostate-specific antigen(PSA),PSA density(PSAD),PSAD of peripheral zone(PSADPZ),aPSADPZ,and peripheral zone volume ratio(PZ-ratio)were calculated and subjected to receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis.The calibration and discrimination abilities of new nomograms were verified with the calibration curve and area under the ROC curve(AUC).The clinical benefits of these models were evaluated by decision curve analysis and clinical impact curves.The AUCs of PSA,PSAD,PSADPZ,aPSADPZ,and PZ-ratio were 0.669,0.762,0.659,0.812,and 0.748 for PCa diagnosis,while 0.713,0.788,0.694,0.828,and 0.735 for csPCa diagnosis,respectively.All nomograms displayed higher net benefit and better overall calibration than the scenarios for predicting the occurrence of PCa or csPCa.The new model significantly improved the diagnostic accuracy of PCa(0.945 vs 0.830,P<0.01)and csPCa(0.937 vs 0.845,P<0.01)compared with the base model.In addition,the number of patients with PCa and csPCa predicted by the new model was in good agreement with the actual number of patients with PCa and csPCa in high-risk threshold.This study demonstrates that aPSADPZ has a higher predictive accuracy for PCa diagnosis than the conventional indicators.Combining aPSADPZ with PIRADS can improve PCa diagnosis and avoid unnecessary biopsies.展开更多

Under the guidance of the finding that the tyrosine residues in proteins could undergo three-component Mannich-type reactions with formaldehyde and electron-rich aniline-containing compounds,which forms covalent bondi...Under the guidance of the finding that the tyrosine residues in proteins could undergo three-component Mannich-type reactions with formaldehyde and electron-rich aniline-containing compounds,which forms covalent bonding connections between the protein of interest and the aniline with high levels of selectivity under relatively mild conditions,an orange aromatic primary amine-containing acid dye AMODB was designed and readily synthesized.The molecular structure was characterized by FTIR,^1H NMR,mass spectrometry and elemental analysis.The synthesized dye and a similar control dye(C.I.Acid Yellow 11) without primary amine groups were applied to dye silk fabric by three dyeing processes:Mannich-type dyeing(with and without the addition of formaldehyde) and acidic dyeing.Their washing and rubbing fastness properties with different dyeing methods were examined and compared.It was found that the dyed silk fabric with AMODB by the Mannich-type dyeing showed higher color depth,better anti-stripping ability to DMF and better washing fastness than those of the dyed silk fabric with C.I.Acid Yellow 11 by acidic dyeing due to the covalent bond formation between the dye chromophore of AMODB and silk fiber.In addition,mild Mannich dyeing conditions suitable for silk(AMODB at 3%owf,75:1 liquor-to-goods ratio,dyebath pH 5.5,30℃,10 h) were provided.展开更多

To the Editor:Esophageal leiomyomas are the most common benign primary tumors of the esophagus and the common esophageal subepithelial lesions.The methods of treatment for esophageal submucosal lesions include surgic...To the Editor:Esophageal leiomyomas are the most common benign primary tumors of the esophagus and the common esophageal subepithelial lesions.The methods of treatment for esophageal submucosal lesions include surgical enucleation,endoscopic submucosal dissection,endoscopic enucleation,and submucosal tunneling with endoscopic removal (STER).Courses of treatment for esophageal leiomyomas are related to a variety of factors,including tumor size,location,morphology,and the patient&#39;s symptoms. The size and location of the tumor are the key factors in the selection of excision methods.With the development of endoscopic technology,the more endoscopic resection techniques have been proven to be feasible for tumors originating from muscularis propria,such as endoscopic full-thickness resection and the over-the-scope clipping device system (OTSC). OTSC is used for primary or rescue therapy for patients who undergoing closure of perforations or leaks.展开更多
