文摘BACKGROUND Colon cancer(CC)is one of the most common malignant tumors in the gastrointestinal system.Overall,CC had the third highest incidence but the second highest mortality rate globally in 2020.Nowadays,CC is mainly treated with capecitabine chemotherapy regimen, supplemented by radiotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapy, but there are still limitations,so Chinese medicine plays an important role.AIM To investigate the effects of invigorating-spleen and anticancer prescription(ISAP)on body weight, tumor inhibition rate and expression levels of proteins in extracellular-signal-regulated kinase(ERK)/mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)signaling pathway in CC mice model.METHODS The CC mice model were established and the mice were randomly divided into 5 groups, including the control group, capecitabine group, the low-dose,mediumdose and high-dose groups of ISAP,with 8 mice in each group, respectively. After 2 weeks of intervention, the body weight and tumor inhibition rate of mice were observed, and the expression of RAS,ERK,phosphorylated ERK(p-ERK),C-MYC and matrix metalloproteinase 2(MMP2)proteins in the tissues of tumors were detected.RESULTS Compared with the control group, the differences of body weight before and after treatment was much smaller in the groups of ISAP,with the smallest difference in the high-dose group of ISAP,while the capecitabine group had the greatest difference, indicating ISAP had a significant inhibiting effect on the growth of transplanted tumor in mice. The expression of RAS protein was decreased in the low-and medium-dose groups of ISAP,and the change of p-ERK was significant in the medium-and high-dose groups of ISAP.MMP2 protein expression was significantly decreased in both the low-dose and medium-dose groups of ISAP.There were no significant changes in ERK in the ISAP group compared to the capecitabine group, while RAS,MMP2,and C-MYC protein expression were reduced in the ISAP group. The expression level of C-MYC protein decreased after treated with ISAP,and the decrease was the most significant in the medium-dose group of ISAP.CONCLUSION ISAP has a potential inhibiting effect on transplanted tumor in mice, and could maintain the general conditions, physical strength and body weight of mice. The expression levels of RAS,p-ERK,MMP2 and c-myc were also decreased to a certain extent.By inhibiting the expression of upstream proteins, the expression levels of downstream proteins in ERK/MAPK signaling pathway were significantly decreased. Therefore,it can be concluded that ISAP may exert an anti-tumor effect by blocking the ERK/MAPK signaling pathway and inhibiting the expression of MMP2 and c-myc proteins.

文摘In this editorial,we comment on the article(World J Gastrointest Oncol 2024;16:1236-1247),which is a retrospective study of transarterial chemoembolization(TACE)combined with multi-targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor(TKI)and programmed cell death protein-1(PD-1)inhibitor for the treatment of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Herein,we focus specifically on the mechanisms of this triple therapy, administration sequence and selection of each medication, and implications for future clinical trials.Based on the interaction mechanisms between medications, the triple therapy of TACE+TKI+PD-1 is proposed to complement the deficiency of each monotherapy, and achieve synergistic antitumor effects.Although this triple therapy has been evaluated by several retrospective trials,it is still controversial whether the triple therapy achieves better clinical benefits, due to the flawed study design and heterogeneity in medications. In addition, the administration sequence, which may greatly affect the clinical benefit, needs to be fully considered at clinical decision-making for obtaining better prognosis. We hope that this editorial could contribute to the design and optimization of future trials.
文摘BACKGROUND Diabetic cardiomyopathy is considered as a chronic complication of diabetes mellitus(DM).Therefore, early detection of left ventricular systolic function(LVSF)damage in DM is essential.AIM To explore the use of the three-dimensional speckle tracking technique(3D-STI)for measuring LVSF in DM patients via meta-analysis.METHODS The electronic databases were retrieved from the initial accessible time to 29 April 2023.The current study involved 9 studies, including 970 subjects. We carried out this meta-analysis to estimate myocardial function in DM compared with controls according to myocardial strain attained by 3D-STI.RESULTS Night articles including 970 subjects were included. No significant difference was detected in the left ventricular ejection fraction between the control and the diabetic group(P>0.05),while differences in global longitudinal strain, global circumferential strain, global radial strain, and global area strain were markedly different between the controls and DM patients(all P<0.05).CONCLUSION The 3D-STI could be applied to accurately measure early LVSF damage in patients with DM.
文摘Xiaoyao San(XYS)is a classic Chinese medicine prescription. It is traditionally used to relieve syndrome of“liver stagnation and spleen deficiency”,a common syndrome type in traditional Chinese medicine, through soothing liver, tonifying spleen, and nourishing blood.Correspondingly,XYS has long application in the treatment of depression, dyspepsia and liver diseases.Given the rising of cutting-edge researches on XYS,there’s a significant need to diligently uncover the bioactive constituents and action mechanisms of XYS for treating non-alcoholic fatty liver disease accordingly.

文摘The stability of lithium metal anodes essentially dictates the lifespan of high-energy-density lithium metal batteries.Lithium nitrate(LiNO_(3))is widely recognized as an effective additive to stabilize lithium metal anodes by forming LiN_(x)O_(y)-containing solid electrolyte interphase(SEI).However, its poor solubility in electrolytes, especially ester electrolytes, hinders its applications in lithium metal batteries.Herein,an organic nitrate, isosorbide nitrate(ISDN),is proposed to replace LiNO_(3).ISDNhas a high solubility of 3.3M in ester electrolytes due to the introduction of organic segments in the molecule. The decomposition of ISDN generates LiN_(x)O_(y)-rich SEI,enabling uniform lithium deposition. The lifespan of lithium metal batteries with ISDN significantly increases from 80 to 155 cycles under demanding conditions.Furthermore,a lithium metal pouch cell of 439Whkg^(−1) delivers 50 cycles. This work opens a new avenue to develop additives by molecular modifications for practical lithium metal batteries.
文摘BACKGROUND The preoperative total bilirubin-albumin ratio(TBAR)and fibrinogen-albumin ratio(FAR)have been proven to be valuable prognostic factors in various cancers.AIM To detect the prognostic value of TBAR and FAR in ampullary adenocarcinoma(AC)patients who underwent curative pancreaticoduodenectomy.METHODS AC patients who underwent curative pancreaticoduodenectomy in the National Cancer Center of China between 1998 and 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. The prognostic cutoff values of TBAR and FAR were determined through the best survival separation model. Then,a novel prognostic score combining TBAR and FAR was calculated and validated through the logistic regression analysis and Cox regression analysis.RESULTS A total of 188 AC patients were enrolled in the current study. The best cutoff values of TBAR and FAR for predicting overall survival were 1.7943 and 0.1329,respectively.AC patients were divided into a TBAR-low group(score=0)vs a TBAR-high group(score=1)and a FAR-low group(score=0)vs a FAR-high group(score=1).The total score was calculated as a novel prognostic factor.Multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that a high score was an independent protective factor for recurrence[score=1 vs score=0:Odds ratio(OR)=0.517,P=0.046;score=2 vs score=0 OR=0.236,P=0.038].In addition, multivariable survival analysis also demonstrated that a high score was an independent protective factor in AC patients(score=2 vs score=0:Hazard ratio=0.230,P=0.046).CONCLUSION A novel prognostic score based on preoperative TBAR and FAR has been demonstrated to have good predictive power in AC patients who underwent curative pancreaticoduodenectomy. However, more studies with larger samples are needed to validate this conclusion.
