Understanding the fracture behavior and damage mechanism of YAG is necessary for armor design. To explore the damage characteristics of YAG under compression and tension, shock compression and shockless spalling experiments with soft recovery technique are conducted. The spall strength of YAG is obtained and the recovered samples are observed by CT and SEM. It is shown that the macroscopic damage characteristic of YAG under compression is vertical split cracks with oblique fine cracks distributed in the entire sample, while that under tension is horizontal transgranular cracks concentrated near the main spall surface. The cracks generated by macroscopic compression, tension and shear stress extend in similar tensile form at the microscale. The proportion of transgranular fractures on spall surfaces is higher than that of cracks induced by macroscopic compression. Microscope and scanning electron microscope are applied to investigate the damage morphologies in both 1-on-1 and N-on^l tests. It is found that the laser damage threshold is higher in N-on-1 tests and nodular defect is the main inducement that leads to the damage because nodular ejection with plasma scalding is the typical damage morphology. Similar damage morphology observed in the two tests indicates that the higher laser damage threshold in N-on-1 test is attributed to the mechanical stabilization process of nodular defects, owing to the gradually increased laser fluence radiation. Based on the typical morphology study, some process optimizations are given.展开更多

Findings from this study include: severely damaged dams were densely distributed along the seismologic fault; small dams, especially small earth-rock dams, had the most serious damage that was caused by a variety of factors; the most serious damage was caused by seismic waves; damage was aggregated by aftershocks; and the extent of the damage patterns increased with the seismic intensity. Damage patterns varied in different intensity zones and cracking was the most common type of damage. Most of the dams had a good base with relatively high bearing capacity, and the walls of the earth-rock dams were mostly of clay soil. This type of base and body material mitigated some of the damage to dams. Reservoir maintenance and other factors also have a significant impact on the seismic safety of the dam. Finally, some recommendations to reduce seismic damage to dams are proposed.展开更多

Bulk and rear-surface damage are initiated under the 3ω fluences of 6.T J/cm2 and 33/cm2, and show different growth characteristics under multiple laser irradiations with the fluence of 6 J/cm2. The size and number of bulk damage keep unchanged once initiated. However, surface damage size also does not grow, while surface damage number increases linearly with laser shots. Different damage thresholds and growth behaviors suggest different formations of bulk and surface damage precursors. The cause of surface damage is supposed to be near-surface absorbing particles buried under the sol-gel coating.展开更多

The experimental results reveal that peak strength, residual strength, elasticity modulus and deformation modulus increase linearly with confining pressure, and failure models transform from fragile failure under low confining pressure to ductility failure under high confining pressure. Macroscopic failure forms of samples under uniaxial compression were split failure parallel to the axis of samples, while macroscopic failure forms under uniaxial compression were shear failure, the shear failure angle of which decreased linearly with confin- ing pressure. There were significant volume dilatation properties in the loading process of sandstone under different confining pressures, and we analyzed the damage evolution properties of samples based on acoustic emission damage and volumetric dilatation damage, and established damage constitutive model, realizing the real-time Quantitative evaluation of samnles damage state in loading process.展开更多

High speed photography was used to capture the failure procedure and set up the relationship between deformation and real stress. The deformation control technology was used to obtain collected samples in different deformations under dynamic loading. Micro CT technology was utilized to acquire real damage distribution of these specimens. Moreover, SEM was employed in comparing the damage characteristics in IPC. A summary of the available experimental results showed that IPC without lateral confi nement formed double cones. The axial acceleration caused by the explosion was also analyzed.By comprehensive comparison, the energy released by the detonation of this propellant is larger, and the HMX or Al particles contained in this propellant are more than the reference propellant, with a TNT equivalent of 1.168-1.196. Finally, advanced protection armor suggestions were proposed based on the theory of woven fabric rubber composite armor(WFRCA).
文摘Maize head smut is a worldwide disease, widely occurred in most maize fields. The disease had occurred in large area in the late 1970s, and became a limiting factor restricting the improvement of maize yield and total yield in China. After efforts of several generations of agricultural scientific workers, the symp- toms, pathogen, infection pathway, infection conditions, infection regularity and resistance genetic law of maize head smut have been studied. This paper introduces the incidence symptoms, pathogen sources, infection pathway, infection conditions, and physiological races of maize head smut, and put forwards the corresponding prevention measures, such as crop rotation, selection of resistant varieties, seed dressing, soil treatment with fungicides, promoting seedling emergence and strengthening field management.

文摘To researching the damage characteristics of typical logical chip modules in spacecraft due to plasma generated by hypervelocity impacts,we have established a triple Langmuir probe diagnostic system and a logical chips measurement system, which were used to diagnose plasma characteristic parameters and the logical chip module's logical state changes due to the plasma created by a 7075 aluminum projectile hypervelocity impact on the 2A12 aluminum target.Three sets of experiments were performed with the collision speeds of 2.85 km/s,3.1 km/s and2.20 km/s,at the same incident angles of 30 degrees and logical chip module's positions by using a two-stage light gas gun loading system,a plasma characteristic parameters diagnostic system and a logical chip module's logical state measurement system, respectively.Electron temperature and density were measured at given position and azimuth, and damage estimation was performed for the logical chip module by using the data acquisition system.Experimental results showed that temporary damage could be induced on logical chip modules in spacecraft by plasma generated by hypervelocity impacts under the given experimental conditions and the sensors' position and azimuth.

文摘Advanced multi-channels acoustic emission (A.E) system is used to study the fracture process of alumina material subjected by three-point-bending loading. Using AE counts and AE hits, the location of damage and damage characteristics are discussed. AE energy, AE counts, AE amplitude changing with loading time are analyzed for the notched alumina specimen. It is indicated that AE characteristic parameters reflect the damage process and fracture of material.

文摘During the process of constructional backfill mining, the cemented paste backfill(CPB)typically exhibits a high degree of brittleness and limited resistance to failure. In this study, the mechanical and damage evolution characteristics of waste tire steel fiber(WTSF)-modified CPB were studied through uniaxial compression tests, acoustic emission(AE)tests, and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The results showed that the uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)decreased when the WTSF content was 0.5%,1%,and 1.5%.When the WTSF content reached 1%,the UCS of the modified CPB exhibited a minimal decrease(0.37 MPa)compared to that without WTSF.When the WTSF content was 0.5%,1%,and 1.5%,peak strain of the WTSF-modified CPB increased by 18%,31.33%,and 81.33%,while the elastic modulus decreased by 21.31%,26.21%,and 45.42%,respectively.The addition of WTSF enhances the activity of AE events in the modified CPB,resulting in a slower progression of the entire failure process. After the failure, the modified CPB retained a certain level of load-bearing capacity.Generally, the failure of the CPB was dominated by tensile cracks. After the addition of WTSF,a gradual increase in the proportion of tensile cracks was observed upon loading the modified CPB sample to the pore compaction stage. The three-dimensional localization of AE events showed that the WTSF-modified CPB underwent progressive damage during the loading, and the samples still showed good integrity after failure.Additionally, the response relationship between energy evolution and damage development of WTSF-modified CPB during uniaxial compression was analyzed, and the damage constitutive model of CPB samples with different WTSF contents was constructed. This study provides a theoretical basis for the enhancement of CPB modified by adding WTSF,serving as a valuable reference for the design of CPB constructional backfill.

文摘P-polarization high reflectors are deposited by e-beam from hafnia and silica. 1-on-1 and N-on-1 tests at 1064-nm wavelength with P-polarization at 45° incidence are carried out on these samples. Based on the typical morphology study, some process optimizations are given.

文摘The uniaxial compression tests for mudstone specimens are carried out with four different loading rates from room temperature to 400℃ by using the Rock Mechanics Servo-controlled Testing System MTS810 and high temperature furnace MTS652.02.The mechanical properties of mudstone with various loading rates are studied under different temperature conditions. The results show that when temperature increases from room temperature to 400℃ and loading rate is less than 0.03 mm/s,the peak strength of mudstone specimen decreases as loading rate increases, while the various peak strengths show significant differences when loading rate exceeds 0.03 mm/s.At room temperature, the elastic modulus decreases at the first time and then increases with loading rate rising. When the temperature is between200 and 400℃,the elastic modulus presents a decreasing trend with increasing loading rate. With increasing the loading rate, the number of fragments in mudstone becomes larger and even the powder is observed in mudstone with higher loading rate.Under high loading rate, the failure mode of mudstone specimens under different temperatures is mainly conical damage.

文摘Based on raw data from dams damaged in the Wenchuan earthquake, including many that were severely damaged, characteristics and factors that influenced the damage are discussed in this paper. Finally, some recommendations to reduce seismic damage to dams are proposed.

文摘Deuterated potassium dihydrogen phosphate damage performance at 351 nm is studied on a large-aperture laser system. The cause of surface damage is supposed to be near-surface absorbing particles buried under the sol-gel coating.

文摘To study the mechanical and damage evolution properties of sandstone under triaxial compression, we analyzed the stress strain curve characteristics, deformation and strength properties, and failure process and characteristics of sandstone samples under different stress states. There were significant volume dilatation properties in the loading process of sandstone under different confining pressures, and we analyzed the damage evolution properties of samples based on acoustic emission damage and volumetric dilatation damage, and established damage constitutive model, realizing the real-time Quantitative evaluation of samnles damage state in loading process.
文摘In order to investigate the damage characteristic of ceramic-metal interpenetrating phase composite(IPC) under dynamic loading, uniaxial dynamic compression was performed to characterize the failure of SiC/Al composite with 15% porosity using a modifi ed Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB). The different features compared with ceramic materials without restraint was shown to be the result of the lateral restraint effect provided by metal phase to ceramics skeleton.

文摘[Objective] This program aimed at providing basis for timely and effective control of Asian corn borer Ostrinia furnacalis in waxy corn fields through investigations and researching on occurrence and damage characteristics of Ostrinia furnacalis in the main producing area of waxy corn of Shanxi Province.[Method] Attraction and collection of the adults,fixed-points and random investigations on eggs and larvae were the main methods in this research.[Result] Ostrinia furnacalis appeared in two generations per year in the field of waxy corns, the generations were basically nonoverlapping with significant interval. The peak period of the overwintering generation adults in the field of waxy corn was early to middle of June, peak period of the first generation adults was from early August to late August;peak period of the first generation eggs was from the end of early June to the binning of late June, the peak period of the second generation eggs was from the middle of early August to late August.Egg-laying performances of Ostrinia furnacalis on waxy corns in different growth period suggested that the temptation of waxy corns to egg-laying of Ostrinia furnacalis had gradually increased with the continuation of growth stages before the heading of waxy corns;while after the heading of waxy corns, the temptation of waxy corns to egg-laying of Ostrinia furnacalis had gradually reduced with the continuation of growth stages. The amount of eggs on waxy corns was more than eggs on normal corns with the same growth period and growth conditions. The first generation of Ostrinia furnacalis caused more serious damages than the second generation. The first generation larvae caused more serious damages on waxy corns with early sowing period than with middle sowing period, while the late sowing fields basically uninjured. The early sowing and middle sowing corns were damaged but lightly, due to the slight occurrence of the first generation larvae. The second generation larvae caused more serious damages in late sowing waxy corn field than in middle sowing waxy corn field. As the early sowing waxy corns were harvested before the beginning of damage peak period of the second generation larvae, they were basically uninjured or slightly damaged by the second generation larvae in general years.Because the second generation larvae were in large-scale occurrence, they had caused serious damages to late and later middle sowing waxy corns.Incidence of ear rot disease on the female ears of waxy corns was closely related to the damages of Ostrinia furnacalis on ears, which was higher on the ears infested by Ostrinia furnacalis.[Conclusion] Comprehensive control on the second generation of Ostrinia furnacalis in the mid and late sowing field of waxy corn should be strengthened.

文摘To obtain dynamic mechanical properties and failure rule of layered backfill under strain rates from10to80s-1,impactloading test on layered backfill specimens(LBS)was conducted by using split Hopkinson pressure bar system. The results indicatethat positive correlation can be found between dynamic compressive strength and strain rate,as well as between strength increasefactor and strain rate.Dynamic compressive strength of LBS gets higher as the arithmetic average cement-sand ratio increases.Compared with static compressive strength, dynamic compressive strength of LBS is enhanced by11%to163%.In addition, theenergy dissipating rate of LBS lies between that of corresponding single specimens, and it decreases as the average cement contentincreases.Deformation of LBS shows obvious discontinuity, deformation degree of lower strength part of LBS is generally higherthan that of higher strength part.A revised brittle fracture criterion based on the Stenerding-Lehnigk criterion is applied to analyzingthe fracture status of LBS,and the average relevant errors of the3groups between the test results and calculation results are4.80%,3.89%and4.66%,respectively.
