Introduction.No study has examined the relationship between the factor of intolerance of uncertainty and its effects on the cognitive processes among parents of a childhood cancer survivor.Intolerance of uncertainty i...Introduction.No study has examined the relationship between the factor of intolerance of uncertainty and its effects on the cognitive processes among parents of a childhood cancer survivor.Intolerance of uncertainty is a central factor in generalized anxiety disorder;an anxiety disorder in which impaired processing of cognitive information in the form of cognitive biases is also observed.The aim of the study was to measure,via a classical Stroop test and an emotional Stroop test,the orientation of selective attention in relation to the uncertainty intolerance factor.Methods.61 parents of a childhood cancer survivor(aged 4 to 6 years)were recruited from hospitals in the Province of Liege(Belgium).Parents completed questionnaires on intolerance of uncertainty and its associated factors(i.e.,usefulness of worry,cognitive avoidance,problem-solving attitude,and ruminations)and performed a Stroop test and an emotional Stroop task.Spearman correlations and multiple linear regressions were performed.Results.The results indicated positive and significant correlations between the emotional Stroop(negative interference index)and intolerance to uncertainty but also with repetitive thoughts(ruminations)and worries.Linear regressions showed that depressive symptoms seem to contribute to explaining longer latencies for the interference condition(color word written in another color).Conclusion.Recommendations have been published to improve the management of parents of a childhood cancer survivor,but parent-centered neuropsychological studies are still needed and should be developed to improve prevention and detection initiatives for these families.展开更多
Objective:This study aims to identify the relationship between the intolerance of uncertainty and the fear of COVID-19 in patients awaiting kidney transplantation during the COVID-19 pandemic.Methods:This descriptive ...Objective:This study aims to identify the relationship between the intolerance of uncertainty and the fear of COVID-19 in patients awaiting kidney transplantation during the COVID-19 pandemic.Methods:This descriptive and cross-sectional study was performed with the participation of 355 individuals.The data were collected with a patient information form,the intolerance of uncertainty scale–short form(IUS),and the fear of COVID-19 scale(FCV-19S).Results:The mean IUS–short form score of the participants was 53.03±5.11,and their mean FCV-19S score was 30.62±4.10.A statistically highly significant positive relationship was identified between the FCV-19S and IUS scores of the participants(r:0.850;P<0.001).Conclusion:As the patients’intolerance of uncertainty increased,their fears of COVID-19 also increased.For patients awaiting kidney transplantation during the COVID-19 pandemic,which is full of challenges,to cope with fear and uncertainty,it is recommended that patients are provided with care with a multidisciplinary team approach.展开更多
Crises in the past have caused devastating,long-lasting impacts on the global economy.The after-effects always bring some dynamic and rigorous challenges for businesses and governments.Such challenges have always been...Crises in the past have caused devastating,long-lasting impacts on the global economy.The after-effects always bring some dynamic and rigorous challenges for businesses and governments.Such challenges have always been a point of discussion for scholars.The recent COVID-19 pandemic emaciated the global economy,leaving everyone mired in uncertainty,fear,and psychological impairments.One of the headwind features utilized by consumers during pandemic was panic buying(PB),which must be explored in various contexts for policymakers and practitioners.To address this gap,this study deployed a moderated mediation mechanism,integrating the health belief model(HBM)and competitive arousal theory(CAT)to excavate the notions underlying PB with the intrusion of evolved real-time psychological disorders:intolerance of uncertainty(IU)and cyberchondria(CYC).The study was conducted as a natural experiment in a South Asian developing economy using online surveys.It found that health beliefs—perceived severity(PSV)and perceived susceptibility(PSC)—positively impact perceived arousal(PA),which causes PB,and that PA has a sturdy mediator role.Moreover,in the relationship between health beliefs and arousal,the different psychological disorders were found to have significant moderating roles The study findings can help mitigate risk uncertainties and panic situations and thus contribute to consumers’wellbeing.展开更多
