Aside from the overall condition evaluation, the structure, function, and stability status of the sewer were also analyzed using the method. A comprehensive index H was proposed to give the overall health condition of pipes with different defects, and Ht, Hs, and If were used to quantify the defects affecting the tightness, stability, and function of the pipe, respectively. Results show that 48% of the inspected pipes were in good condition (0〈H〈0.25), and about 33% of the sewer pipes analyzed were categorized to be at severe or urgent condition levels (H 〉 0.5), although most of the pipes were installed only within five years. Frequent sedimentation affects the function of the sewer, and deformation and joint damage affect the structure of the sewer.展开更多

The sensor has high linear response to the axial displacement of about 0.8mm with a sensitivity of 32mV/10p, m strain. The sensor is tested for periodic and suddenly released forces, and the results are found to coincide with the theoretical values. This simple design, small in size and low cost sensor may find applications in industry and civil engineering to monitor the vibrations of the beam structures and bridges.展开更多

They are flocking to areas such as Guangdong Province, which has attracted the highest number of rural migrant workers in the country. In the first six months of 1996, its registered migrant labor force from other provinces reached 5.4 million; in Zhongshan City alone, it numbers more than 400,000, among whom 240,000 are women.展开更多

If vibrations are beyond the tolerable limit, the machine and its operator health will be under the risk. In this work, the vibration of a mining truck at different operational conditions are simulated and discussed. To achieve this aim, three haul roads with low, medium and poor qualities are considered based on the ISO standard. Accordingly, the vibration of a mining truck in different speeds, payload and distribution qualities of materials in the dump body are evaluated in each haul road quality using Trucksim software. The simulation results with statistical discussions indicate that the truck speed and the materials distribution quality have significant effects on the root mean square(RMS) of vertical vibrations. However, the effect of the payload is not considerable on the RMS. Moreover, the accumulation of materials on the rear side of the truck dump body is efficient on the vibrational health risk.展开更多

Healthcare providers have also adopted this with an increasing number of public or private organizations providing web-based portals as well as app interfaces to some of the largest electronic healthcare systems. The benefit of this is easier access, more efficient provision of services, increased transparency and improved workflows. This may increase the population’s capability to manage their conditions and reduce the contacts to, thereby burdening healthcare professionals. But not all will be able to benefit from this digital (r)evolution. Those who will not be able to include people with dementia. For people with dementia to also be able to take advantage of digital health tools and services, it will require planning and involvement of caregivers. In 2017, we presented the Epital Care Model as a framework to organize an efficient people-centered cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral way to organize activities, roles, responsibilities and describe geographical locations and used technologies in response to individuals’ specific diagnoses and everyday changes in their condition. In 2021, an EU-funded project was initiated to investigate how living labs and scaling up could be done building upon the ECM. One of the living labs was organized around an organization providing care to PWD in Netherlands. In the period 2021 to 2024, we have tried to identify ways for how the ECM could be used to digitally enable the services provided by the organization. In 2022, the care organization tanteLouise started a project originally named Daycare Centre2.0 (now called “Van Thuis Uit” meaning “From Home”), together with healthcare insurance company CZ, and developed a model for onboarding people with dementia and introducing them to specific interventions based on their personal goals and needs. We here present how the ECM and the “Van Thuis Uit” can be mapped within each other to create synergy in creating a healthcare setting for people with dementia. This work may serve as a model for other conditions, where individuals are likely to need more intensive support from their informal caregivers due to a relatively rapid progression of the condition or development of severe impairments. Examples here can be neurologic conditions such as multiple sclerosis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or the final stage of conditions that require palliation.展开更多

Therefore, the aim of this study was to define parameters related to health and welfare of animals in industrial farms with intensive husbandry. Health, management, environmental and productive parameters were firstly characterized and then a protocol to assess welfare of rabbits was define. The research was conducted on 8 industrial farms from 2004 to 2007 and around 30 inspections were done in each farm. At each visit, the health conditions were established by: (1) necropsy on animals of different productive category; (2) specific laboratory investigations based on the lesions observed; (3) checking the presence of parasites in environmental faecal samples; (4) bacteriological examination of vaginal, nasal and rectal swabs of rabbit of different age. The immune conditions and the efficacy of vaccinations were measured by determining anti-Myxomatosis and anti-Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease antibodies using competitive ELISAs, and anti-Encephalitozoon cunicoli antibodies by immunocarbonassay. The environmental conditions were evaluated by measuring air temperature, relative humidity, ammonia concentration and bacterial/fungal count. Finally the productive parameters were also recorded and elaborated. All the entered values were then utilized for defining a score system to establish health and welfare conditions.展开更多

Therefore, a new type of optical fiber sensor was developed in the laboratory - optical fiber grating sensor for force measurement of anchor cable (OFBFMAC). No similar report about this kind of sensor has been found up to now in China and other countries. This sensor is proved to be an effective way of monitoring in processes of anchor cable installation, cable cutting, cable force regulation, etc, with the accurate and repeatable measuring results. Its successful application in the tie bar cable force safety monitoring for Wuhan Qingchuan bridge is a new exploration of optical fiber grating sensing technology in bridge tie bar monitoring system.展开更多

The results showed that quality of terminal bud was related to the seedling growth, the regenerated seedlings with healthy terminal buds but no replacement experienced the largest growth amount and slight damage of terminal bud or one replacement stimulated growth of ground diameter. Multiple replacements of terminal bud would reduce seedling quality and influence its growth. Exploration of the quality characters of seedlings helped to know the dynamic features of early seedling growth, and provided theoretical support for the tending operation to improve quality of natural tropical forest.展开更多
