The three-dimensional (3D) processing maps considering strain based on the two-dimensional (2D) processing maps proposed by PRASAD can describe the distribution of the efficiency of power dissipation and flow instability regions at various temperatures, strain rates and strains, which exhibit intrinsic workability related to material itself. Finite element (FE) simulation can obtain the distribution of strain, strain rate, temperature and die filling status, which indicates state-of-stress (SOS) workability decided by die shape and different processing conditions. On the basis of this, a new material driven analysis method for hot deformation was put forward by the combination of FE simulation with 3D processing maps, which can demonstrate material workability of the entire hot deformation process including SOS workability and intrinsic workability. The hot forging process for hard-to-work metal magnesium alloy was studied, and the 3D thermomechanical FE simulation including 3D processing maps of complex hot forging spur bevel gear was first conducted. The hot forging experiments were carried out. The results show that the new method is reasonable and suitable to determine the aoorooriate nrocess narameters. 展开更多

Hot deformation behavior of extrusion preform of the spray-formed Al-9.0Mg-0.5Mn-0.1Ti alloy was studied using hot compression tests over deformation temperature range of 300-450 ℃ and strain rate range of 0.01-10 s-1. On the basis of experiments and dynamic material model, 2D processing maps and 3D power dissipation maps were developed for identification of exact instability regions and optimization of hot processing parameters. The experimental results indicated that the efficiency factor of energy dissipate (η) lowered to the minimum value when the deformation conditions located at the strain of 0.4, temperature of 300 ° C and strain rate of 1 s-1. The softening mechanism was dynamic recovery, the grain shape was mainly flat, and the portion of high angle grain boundary (〉15°) was 34%. While increasing the deformation temperature to 400 ° C and decreasing the strain rate to 0.1 s-1, a maximum value of η was obtained. It can be found that the main softening mechanism was dynamic recrystallization, the structures were completely recrystallized, and the portion of high angle grain boundary accounted for 86.5%. According to 2D processing maps and 3D power dissipation maps, the optimum processing conditions for the extrusion preform of the spray-formed Al?9.0Mg?0.5Mn?0.1Ti alloy were in the deformation temperature range of 340-450 ° C and the strain rate range of 0.01-0.1 s-1 with the power dissipation efficiency range of 38%?43%. 展开更多

Deformation behaviors of CNTs/Al alloy composite fabricated by the method of flake powder metallurgy were investigated by hot compression tests, which were performed in the temperature range of 300?550 °C and strain rate range of 0.001? 10 s?1 with Gleeble?3500 thermal simulator system. Processing maps of the CNTs/Al alloy at different strains were calculated to study the optimum processing domain. Microstructures before and after hot compressions were characterized by electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) method. Stress?strain curves indicate that the flow stress increases with the increase of strain rate and the decrease of temperature. The processing maps of the CNTs/Al alloy at different strains show that the optimum processing domain is 500?550 °C, 10 s?1 for hot working. EBSD analysis demonstrates that fully dynamic recrystallization occurs in the optimum processing domain (high strainrate 10 s?1), whereas the main soften mechanism is dynamic recovery at low strain rate (0.001 s?1). 展开更多

The determination of intrinsic deformation parameters inducing grain refinement mechanism of dynamic recrystallization (DRX) contributes to the relative forming process design. For Ni80A superalloy, the processing maps were constructed by the derivation of the stress-strain data coming from a series of isothermal compression tests at temperatures of 1273^-1473 K and strain rates of 0.01-10 s^-1. According to the processing maps and microstructural validation, the deformation parameter windows with DRX mechanism were separated in an innovative deformation mechanism map. In addition, the deformation activation energy representing deformation energy barrier was introduced to further optimize such windows. Finally, the enhanced processing maps were constructed and the parameter domains corresponding to DRX mechanism and lower deformation barrier were determined as follows: at ε=0.3, domains: 1296-1350 K, 0.056-0.32 s^-1 and 1350-1375 K, 0.035-0.11 s^-1;at ε=0.5, domains: 1290-1348 K, 0.2-0.5 s^-1 and 1305-1370 K, 0.035-0.2 s^-1;at ε=0.7, domains: 1290-1355 K, 0.042-0.26 s^-1;at ε=0.9, domains: 1298-1348 K, 0.037-0.224 s^-1. 展开更多

ZE20(Mg-2Zn-0.2Ce)^2 is a new wrought magnesium alloy with improved extrudability and mechanical properties[1].To understand the constitutive behavior and workability of this new alloy,Gleeble thermomechanical testing has been carried out in this study. The flow stress behavior of ZE20 was investigated between 250℃–450℃ and 10^–3 s^–1–1.0 s^–1 in isothermal compression.Constitutive descriptions of the flow stress are provided.A new general approach at application of the extended Ludwik equation is demonstrated and was found to be more accurate than the hyperbolic sine Arrhenius model while having a similar number of model constants.Processing maps were developed based on the experimental results and are verified with microstructural investigation.A region of safe processing with non-basal texture and high activity of dynamic recrystallization(DRX)was found between 375℃ and 450℃,from 10^–1 s^–1 to 10^–2.5 s^–1.A region of potentially safe processing with annealing that is associated with shear band nucleation of non-basal grains was identified for temperatures as low as 300℃ and rates as high as 10^–1 s^–1. 展开更多

Isothermal compression experiments were conducted to study the hot deformation behaviors of a Sr-modified Al-Si-Mg alloy in the temperature range of 300-420°C and strain rate range of 0.01-10 s-1.A physically-based model was developed to accurately predict the flow stress.Meanwhile, processing maps were established to optimize hot working parameters. It is found that decreasing the strain rate or increasing the deformation temperature reduces the flow stress. The high activation energy is closely related to the pinning of dislocations from Si-containing dispersoids. Moreover, the deformed grains and the Si-containing dispersoids in the matrix are elongated perpendicular to the compression direction, and incomplete dynamic recrystallization(DRX)is discovered on the elongated boundaries in domain with peak efficiency. The flow instability is mainly attributed to the flow localization, brittle fracture of eutectic Si phase, and formation of adiabatic shear band. The optimum hot working window is 380-420°C and 0.03-0.28 s-1. 展开更多

At present, large parts are generally formed by die forging. Different initial microstructures and deformation process parameters will significantly affect the flow behavior. To precisely control the microstructures, researchers have conducted many studies to analyze the microstructure evolution law and deformation mechanism during hot compression. This review focuses on the microstructure evolution of high strength β titanium alloys during hot deformation, including dynamic recrystallization and dynamic recovery in the single-phase region and the dynamic evolution of the α phase in the two-phase region. Furthermore, the optimal hot processing regions, instability regions, and the relationship between the efficiency of power dissipation and the deformation mechanism in the hot processing map are summarized. Finally, the problems and development direction of using hot processing maps to optimize process parameters are also emphasized. 展开更多

Mg-4Zn-1RE-0.5Zr (ZE41) Mg alloy is extensively used in the aerospace and automobile industries. In order to improve the applicability and performance, this alloy was engineered with in-situ Ti B2reinforcement to form Ti B2/ZE41 composite. The high temperature deformation behavior and manufacturability of the newly developed Ti B2/ZE41 composite and the parent ZE41 Mg alloy were studied via establishing constitutive modeling of flow stress, deformation activation energy and processing map over a temperature range of 250℃-450℃ and strain rate range of 0.001 s-1-10 s-1.The predicted flow stress behavior of both materials were found to be well consistent with the experimental values.A significant improvement in activation energy was found in Ti B2/ZE41 composite (171.54 k J/mol) as compared to the ZE41 alloy (148.15 k J/mol) due to the dispersed strengthening of in-situ Ti B2particles.The processing maps were developed via dynamic material modeling.A wider workability domain and higher peak efficiency (45%) were observed in Ti B2/ZE41 composite as compared to ZE41 alloy (41%).The Dynamic recrystallization is found to be the dominating deformation mechanism for both materials;however, particle stimulated nucleation was found to be an additional mode of deformation in Ti B2/ZE41 composite. The twinning and stress induced cracks were observed in both the materials at low temperature and high strain rate.A narrow range of instability zone is found in the present Ti B2/ZE41 composite among the existing published literature on Mg based composites. The detailed microstructural characterization was carried out in both workability and instability domains to establish the governing deformation mechanisms. 展开更多

The microstructure and mechanical properties of extruded Mg-Zn alloy containing Y element were investigated in temperature range of 300-450°C and strain rate range of 0.001-1 s-1 through hot compression tests.Processing maps were used to indicate optimum conditions and instability zones for hot deformation of alloys. For Mg-Zn and Mg-Zn-Y alloys, peak stress, temperature and strain rate were related by hyperbolic sine function, and activation energies were obtained to be 177 and 236 kJ/mol,respectively.Flow curves showed that the addition of Y element led to increase in peak stress and decrease in peak strain, and indicated that DRX started at lower strains in Mg-Zn-Y alloy than in Mg-Zn alloy. The stability domains of Mg-Zn-Y alloy were indicated in two domains as 1)300°C,0.001 s-1;350°C,0.01-0.1 s-1 and 400°C,0.01 s-1 and 2)450°C,0.01-0.1 s-1.Microstructural observations showed that DRX was the main restoration mechanism for alloys, and fully dynamic recrystallization of Mg-Zn-Y alloy was observed at 450°C.The instability domain in Mg-Zn-Y alloy was located significantly at high strain rates. In addition, the instability zone width of Mg-Zn and Mg-Zn-Y alloys increased with increasing strain, and cracks, twins and severe deformation were considered in these regions. 展开更多

Hot deformation behavior of as-cast Mn18Cr18 N austenitic stainless steel was studied in the temperature range of 950-1200 ℃ and strain rate range of 0.001-1 s^(-1) using isothermal hot compression tests. The true stress-strain curves of the steel were characterized by hardening and subsequent softening and varied with temperatures and strain rates. The hot deformation activation energy of the steel was calculated to be 657.4 k J/mol, which was higher than that of the corresponding wrought steel due to its as-cast coarse columnar grains and heterogeneous structure. Hot processing maps were developed at different plastic strains, which exhibited two domains with peak power dissipation efficiencies at 1150 ℃/0.001 s^(-1) and 1200 ℃/1 s^(-1), respectively. The corresponding microstructures were analyzed by optical microscopy(OM), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), and electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD). It has been confirmed that dynamic recrystallization(DRX) controlled by dislocation slipping and climbing mechanism occurs in the temperature and strain rate range of 1050-1200 ℃ and 0.001-0.01 s^(-1); And DRX controlled by twinning mechanism occurs in the temperature and strain rate range of 1100-1200 ℃, 0.1-1 s^(-1). These two DRX domains can serve as the hot working windows of the as-cast steel at lower strain rates and at higher strain rates, respectively. The processing maps at different strains also exhibit that the instability region decreases with increasing strain. The corresponding microstructures and the less tensile ductility in the instability region imply that the flow instability is attributed to flow localization accelerated by a few layers of very fine recrystallized grains along the original grain boundaries. 展开更多

The hot working mechanism of 2Cr11 MolVNbN steel was investigated by means of compression tests at temperatures of900-1150 ℃ and strain rates of 0.005-5 s^(-1).At strains of 0.2,0.3,0.5 and 0.7,the relationship among strain rate sensitivity, power dissipation efficiency and instability parameter under different conditions were studied.Power dissipation maps and instability maps at different strains were established. The optimal and the instable deformation regimes were established by the processing maps based on the dynamic material model. The processing maps were developed for the typical strains of 0.2,0.3,0.5 and 0.7,predicting the instability regions occurring at high strain rate more than 0.05 s^(-1),which should be avoided during hot deformation. The optimized processing parameters for hot working of 2CrllMolVNbN supercritical stainless steel were temperatures of 1080-1120 ℃ and strain rates of 0.005-0.01 s^(-1). 展开更多

Hot deformation behavior of a high Al-low Si transformation-induced plasticity(TRIP) steel was studied by an MMS-300 thermo-simulation machine at the temperature range of 1050–1200℃ and strain rate range of 0.01–10s^(-1). The constitutive equations of the TRIP steel were established at high temperature by fitting the strain factor with a sixth-order polynomial. The instability during hot rolling was discussed using processing maps. The results reveal that two types of flow stress curves(dynamic recrystallization and dynamic recovery) were observed during the hot compression of the high Al-low Si TRIP steel. Flow stress decreased with increasing deformation temperature and decreasing strain rate. The predicted flow stress of experimental TRIP steel is in agreement with the experimental values with an average absolute relative error of 4.49% and a coefficient of determination of 0.9952. According to the obtained processing maps, the TRIP steel exhibits a better workability at strain rate of 0.1s^(-1) and deformation temperature of 1200℃ as compared to other deformation conditions. 展开更多
