Determination of an age in a particular tree species can be considered as a vital factor in forest management.In this research we have introduced a novel scheme to determine the accurate age of the tree species in Sri...Determination of an age in a particular tree species can be considered as a vital factor in forest management.In this research we have introduced a novel scheme to determine the accurate age of the tree species in Sri Lanka.This is initially developed for the tree species called‘Hora’(Dipterocarpus zeylanicus)in wet zone of Sri Lanka.Here the core samples are extracted and further analyzed by means of the different image processing techniques such as Gaussian kernel blurring,use of Sobel filters,double threshold analysis,Hough line tran sformation and etc.The operations such as rescaling,slicing and measuring are also used in line with image processing techniques to achieve the desired results.Ultimately a Graphical user interface(GUI)is developed to cater for the user requirements in a user friendly environment.It has been found that the average growth ring identification accuracy of the proposed system is 93%and the overall average accuracy of detecting the age is 81%.Ultimately the proposed system will provide an insight and contributes to the forestry related activities and researches in Sri Lanka.展开更多

The present paper employs threshold nonrecursive structural vector autoregression analysis to explore the asymmetric effects of mac...China's astonishing economic growth implies a necessity to understand its inflation. The present paper employs threshold nonrecursive structural vector autoregression analysis to explore the asymmetric effects of macro-variables on inflation in low and high inflation regimes. The empirical evidence demonstrates, first, that the reactions of inflation to various shocks are inflation-regime-dependent and asymmetric. Second, monetary policy influences China "s high inflation and adjusting the domestic interest rate in China may be an effective way to control inflation in a high inflation regime, but not in a low inflation regime. In a high inflation regime, a high inflation rate may cause the macro-policy authorities to increase the domestic interest rate, in an attempt to stabilize high inflation. Third, contrary to expectations, the world oil price is not a strong cost-push factor in a low inflation regime. Oil price increases may increase inflation in a high inflation regime, but there is no such obvious effect in a low inflation regime. Finally, China "s nominal effective exchange rate influences inflation in both low and high inflation regimes. A nominal effeetive exchange rate appreciation might be effective in controlling domestic inflation in both regimes.展开更多

It was demonstrated that the FBG wavelength could be modulated as the static case when the g...An acoustic emission (AE) linear location system was proposed, which employed fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) as AE sensors. It was demonstrated that the FBG wavelength could be modulated as the static case when the grating length was much shorter than the AE wavelength. In addition, an improved AE location method based on the Gabor wavelet transform (WT) and threshold analysis was represented. The method was testified through AE linear location experiments based on a tunable narrow-band laser interrogation system using ultra-short FBG sensors as AE sensors. Results of the experiments showed that 86% of the linear location errors were less than 10mm.展开更多
