Drawing upon the dialogic nature of voice and integrating Hyland’s (2005) model of interactive resources with Martin & White’s (2005) engagement system, this article studies the diachronic development of linguistic realization in authorial voice construction in English academic discourse. The results show that the use of interactive resources is on the rise from 1980 to 2020, and the use of dialogue expansion resources is also on the rise, which reflects the interpersonal interaction characteristics of the authorial voice construction in academic writing. This study helps to uncover the diachronic evolution of scientific discourse and helps writers make rational use of voice resources in the writing process to improve the quality of academic writing.展开更多
