Moreover, we detected some genes that are upregulated in supportive feeder cell lines by semi-quantitative PCR. In the present study, we applied the GeneChip Rhesus Macaque Genome Array of Affymetrix Corporation to study the expression profiles of these five feeder cell lines, in purpose to find out which cytokines and signaling pathways were important in maintaining the rESCs, mRNAs of eight genes, including GREM2, bFGF, KITLG, DKK3, GREM1, AREG, SERPINF1 and LTBP1, were found to be upregulated in supportive feeder cell lines, but not in MFGE. The results indicate that many signaling pathways may play redundant roles in supporting the undifferentiated growth and maintenance of pluripotency in rESCs.展开更多

METHODS: We analyzed the presence of SP cells indifferent human gastric carcinoma cell lines, and then isolated and identified the SP cells from the KATO Ⅲ human gastric cancer cell line by flow cytometry. The clonogenic ability and self-renewal were evaluated by clone and sphere formation assays. The related genes were determined by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. To compare tumorigenic ability, SP and non-side population (NSP) cells from the KATO Ⅲ human gastric cancer cell line were subcutaneously injected into nude mice. RESULTS: SP cells from the total population accounted for 0.57% in KATO Ⅲ, 1.04% in Hs-746T, and 0.02% in AGS (CRL-1739). SP cells could grow clonally and have self-renewal capability in conditioned media. The expression of ABCG2, MDRI, Bmi-1 and Oct-4 was different between SP and NSP cells. However, there was no apparent difference between SP and NSP cells when they were injected into nude mice. CONCLUSION: SP cells have some cancer stem celllike characteristics in vitro and can be used for studying the tumorigenic process in gastric cancer.展开更多

In recent years, the research on stem cells has expanded enormously and holds therapeutic promises for many patients suffering from currently disabling diseases. This paper focuses on the possible use of stem cells in the two main clinical settings in gastro-enterology, i.e., hepatic and intestinal diseases, which have a strong impact on public health worldwide. Despite encouraging results obtained in both regenerative medicine and immunemediated conditions, further studies are needed to fully understand the biology of stem cellsand carefully assess their put ativeonco- genicproperties. Moreover, there searchonstemcellsarousesferventethical, socialandpoliticaldebate.TheItalianSocietyofGastroenterologysponsoredaworkshoponstemcellsheldinVeronaduringtheⅩⅥCongressoftheFederationofItalianSocietiesofDigestiveDiseases(March 6-9,2010).Here,we report on the issues discussed, including liver and intestinal diseases that may benefit from stemcell therapy, the biology of hepatic and intestinal tissue repair, and stem cell usage inclinical trials.展开更多

Emerging evidence suggests that cancer stem cells (CSCs) play a crucial role in the development and progression of this disease. The identification of CSC markers could lead to the development of new therapeutic targets. In this study, the authors explore the functional role of c-Met in pancreatic CSCs, by analyzing self-renewal with sphere assays and tumorigenicity capacity in NOD SCID mice. They concluded that c-Met is a novel marker for identifying pancreatic CSCs and c-Met high in a higher tumorigenic cancer cell population. Inhibition of c-Met with XL184 blocks self-renewal capacity in pancreatic CSCs. In pancreatic tumors established in NOD SCID mice, c-Met inhibition slowed tumor growth and reduced the population of CSCs, along with preventing the development of metastases.展开更多

Ker Gawl. ex Spreng., Sternbergiafischeriana (Herb.) Roem and Sternbergia colchiciflora Waldst. & Kit.. Under this study, the natural populations of species, which possess valuable medicinal and ornamental properties, have been assessed by experts as vulnerable, and S. colchiciflora is included in the red list of endemic plants of the Caucasus, as having status of the critically endangered species. The situation is aggravated by the poor self-regeneration capacity of these species, which is one of the main factors responsible for the sustainability of the population of this or that species in the wild. Self-regeneration capacity for sexual reproduction was investigated in the listed species of the genus Sternbergia using common methods of embryology and reproduction biology. In conditions of the National Botanical Garden of Georgia (NBGG), the species S. lutea and S. fischeriana prove to be completely infertile and propagate vegetatively by bulblets, while S. colchiciflora revealed the ability for propagation by seed. Long-term conservation of seeds of the studied species S. colchiciflora in the Caucasus Regional Seed Bank (CRSB) and establishing of living collections of this species at the experimental plot were chosen as the method for safeguarding this critically endangered species.展开更多

The Internet activities promote learners' self-monitoring ability, encourage the use of multimedia and network technology, and develop students' cooperation and participation. During the latest years, there have been many changes in education as these new technologies, including VLEs (Virtual Learning Environments), which have become an important part in the teaching/learning process. According to Tech Terms Computer Dictionary (2012), VLE is a virtual classroom where teachers and students communicate. VLEs have evolved as at an early stage, they were only ways of transmitting information: Teachers uploaded the multimedia resources and students read this information. At a higher stage, VLEs have become interactive. This means that students become active. We have designed a virtual environment where students, weekly, must contribute their opinions and comments in response to a required activity uploaded by the teacher. In this paper, we describe this weekly task and analyze students' opinion about this planned activity. The students become an active subject in this field. In this paper, we show how VLEs are no longer a means of transmitting information but a means of interaction as well as a way of motivating our students to be involved in their learning process展开更多

Since the first version of Pride and Prejudice came into being, Chinese translators have begun to show great interest in translating this novel, and there are more than ten translated Chinese versions now. Scholars have conducted a lot of research about this novel and its various translated versions. Among all these Chinese versions, Wang Keyi' s version is relatively earlier and is also the most popular one. Thus, it attracts many readers' eyes and there are increasing comments and studies on this version. There are also studies analyzing or comparing several versions from the perspective of translator' s subjectivity. While, few articles are published to analyze this version from the three elements of translator' s subjectivity: initiatives, passiveness, and purposiveness. They are also three basic features of translator' s subjectivity, in which translator' s subjectivity reflects. It is also the three features that consist of the translator' s subjectivity. Therefore, the comprehensive and intensive research of translator' s subjectivity in the Chinese version of Pride and Prejudice has great realistic meaning and practical values.展开更多

This autobiographical narrative inquiry investigates the contribution of scaffolded research practice to a female EFL preservice teacher ’s research efficacy. The data were collected through conversations, notes, journals, and portfolios. The findings suggest that teacher research efficacy was pliable through scaffolded research practice. It emerged gradually over time, in different places with social and personal interaction. The factors contributing to the emerging research efficacy were: teacher educators ’ support, peers ’ support, and research participation. The study sheds light on teacher educators and EFL preservice teachers, with the intention of establishing an inquiry-based pedagogy for M.Ed. programs.展开更多

It is a complex form of self-management through self-monitoring and self-tracking practices, which combines the use of wearable computers for measuring psycho-physical performances through specific apps for the processing, selecting and describing of the data collected, possibly in combination with video recordings. Given that lifelogging is becoming increasingly widespread in technologically advanced societies and that practices related to it are becoming part of most people's everyday lives, it is more important than ever to gain an understanding of the phenomenon. In this paper, I am interested in particular in exploring the issue of the transformations in the perception, comprehension, and construction of self, and hence in subjectification practices, deriving from the new digital technologies, and especially lifelogging.展开更多

Multiple sources of data were collected from 90 students of grade 10 at a high school in Beijing, including the pretest and posttest writings, writing self-efficacy questionnaires, interviews, and follow-up questionnaires over one semester. Data analyses showed that the experimental group excelled the control group in writing performance and became more confident in writing at the end of positive self-evaluation practices. This study also found that writing self-efficacy and writing performance were positively related. The students with high writing self-efficacy tended to perform better in their writing than those with low writing self-efficacy.展开更多

文摘Adult stem cells represent the self-renewing progenitors of numerous body tissues, and they are currently classified according to their origin and differentiation ability. Moreover, there searchonstemcellsarousesferventethical, socialandpoliticaldebate.TheItalianSocietyofGastroenterologysponsoredaworkshoponstemcellsheldinVeronaduringtheⅩⅥCongressoftheFederationofItalianSocietiesofDigestiveDiseases(March 6-9,2010).Here,we report on the issues discussed, including liver and intestinal diseases that may benefit from stemcell therapy, the biology of hepatic and intestinal tissue repair, and stem cell usage inclinical trials.
文摘Pancreatic cancer is the deadliest solid cancer and currently the fourth most frequent cause of cancer-related deaths. In pancreatic tumors established in NOD SCID mice, c-Met inhibition slowed tumor growth and reduced the population of CSCs, along with preventing the development of metastases.
文摘The present work dealt with sexual reproduction capacity of three relic species of the genus Sternbergia (family AmaryUidaceae) distributed in the Caucasus, i.e., Sternbergia lutea (L.) Ker Gawl. ex Spreng., Sternbergiafischeriana (Herb.) Roem and Sternbergia colchiciflora Waldst. Long-term conservation of seeds of the studied species S. colchiciflora in the Caucasus Regional Seed Bank (CRSB) and establishing of living collections of this species at the experimental plot were chosen as the method for safeguarding this critically endangered species.
文摘Using the Internet to learn a language creates wide opportunities to enhance learning (Association of teachers of English in Catalonia (APAC), 2010). In this paper, we show how VLEs are no longer a means of transmitting information but a means of interaction as well as a way of motivating our students to be involved in their learning process
文摘In this paper, the teaching of course Three-dimensional Animation Foundation is designed mainly based on teaching content modularization and scaffolding teaching model. The modularized content design for Three-dimensional Animation Foundation is specifically expounded, and also the ideas for developing the scaffolding teaching model are analyzed. How to integrate the scaffolding teaching model into course teaching is introduced in details. 文摘As the center and subject of the translation, translator' s subjectivity plays a great role in translation research and more and more attention has been aroused. Therefore, the comprehensive and intensive research of translator' s subjectivity in the Chinese version of Pride and Prejudice has great realistic meaning and practical values.

文摘Differential evolution(DE) demonstrates good convergence performance, but it is difficult to choose trial vector generation strategies and associated control parameter values. An improved method,self-adapting scalable DE(SSDE) algorithm,is proposed.Trial vector generation strategies and crossover probability are respectively self-adapted by two operators in this algorithm.Meanwhile,to enhance the convergence rate, vectors selected randomly with the optimal fitness values are introduced to guide searching direction.Benchmark problems are used to verify this algorithm.Compared with other well-known DE algorithms, experiment results indicate that this algorithm is better than other DE algorithms in terms of convergence rate and quality of optimization.
文摘EFL preservice teachers ’ research efficacy, as perceived competence to perform tasks in research, is crucial to their research engagement. The study sheds light on teacher educators and EFL preservice teachers, with the intention of establishing an inquiry-based pedagogy for M.Ed. programs.
文摘By lifelogging, we understand a specific, very recent phenomenon of digital technology, which falls within the range of practices of the quantified self. In this paper, I am interested in particular in exploring the issue of the transformations in the perception, comprehension, and construction of self, and hence in subjectification practices, deriving from the new digital technologies, and especially lifelogging.

文摘Objective:To assess the psychometric properties of the Thai version of the Self-Care Self-Efficacy Scale version 3.0(SCSES-v3.0)in individuals with chronic illnesses.Although originally developed and tested in a Western context, its applicability in Asian populations, including Thailand, remains inadequately explored. Methods:Psychometric tests were guided by COSMIN principles. This included the translation of the English version into Thai based on the ISPOR framework.Nine nursing experts evaluated the content validity.Data were obtained from a multicenter cross-sectional study conducted between July and November 2022.This study included individuals with chronic conditions from 16 primary care centers in Thailand. We tested the structural validity using exploratory factor analysis(EFA)and confirmatory factor analysis(CFA),and concurrent validity in relation to the Self-Care of Chronic Illness Inventory version 4.c(SC-CII-v4.c).We tested the scale’s reliability with McDonald’s u,Cronbach’s a,and the intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC).Results:The Thai SCSES-v3.0 demonstrated excellent content validity(k¼1.00).Thefinal analysis included a total of 385 participants. The EFA with thefirst split-half subsample(n¼193)extracted a twofactor structure. One reflected SCSES for maintenance and monitoring behaviors and another captured SCSES for management behaviors(item 6e10).CFA with the second split-half subsample(n¼192)and the overall sample(n¼385)supported the scale’s two-factor model with high factor loadings. Each dimension and the overall SCSES-v3.0 positively correlated with each scale and the overall SC-CII-v4.c.McDonald’s u and Cronbach’s a(both ranged 0.91e0.94)and ICC(ranged 0.95e0.96),indicated excellent internal reliability and test-retest reliability, respectively. Conclusions:The identification of a valid and reliable two-factor model for the Thai SCSES-v3.0 renders it a valuable tool for clinicians and investigators, facilitating the assessment of self-efficacy in self-care across diverse contexts.
文摘This study examined the effectiveness of positive self-evaluation used as an intervention to cultivate students' English writing self-efficacy and improve their writing performance. The students with high writing self-efficacy tended to perform better in their writing than those with low writing self-efficacy.
