Methods: Sixty RA patients were randomized into two groups by the random number table, 30 in each group. The observation group was intervened by warm needling moxibustion at the points from the Governor Vessel on the back and Jiaji (EX-B 2) points, while the control group was by regular acupuncture. Results: After intervention, the morning stiffness, joint pain index, joint swelling index and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) were significantly improved in both groups (P〈0.01); the inter-group difference was also statistically significant (P〈0.05). The total effective rate was 93.3% in the observation group versus 76.6% in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P〈0.01). Conclusion: Warm needling moxibustion at points from the Governor Vessel on the back and Jiaji (EX-B 2) points can produce a higher efficacy than regular acupuncture in treating RA.展开更多

Methods: 102 cases of RA in the early and the active stages were randomly allocated into the compound Fengshining group (Group A), acupuncture group(Group B), and compound Fengshining plus acupuncture group(Group C). They were treated for 30 days. All patients were examined before treatment and after treatment by ^99m TC-MDP imaging of the whole body, hands and feet, and analyzing method of random interested region was used to count the ratio of radioactivity in the affected area of RA to radioactivity in adjacent normal bone(T/TN). Meanwhile, joint swelling index, joint tenderness index, morning stiffness, gripping force, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) were also observed. Results: T/TN of the Group A after treatments had no significant difference comparing with that before treatment(t = 1.35, P〉0.05), while the Group B and C had significant differences(t = 5.31, t=8.97, P〈0.01). The changes of clinical and experimental examination in the Group C had more significant differences than those in the Group A and B(P〈0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture therapy could promote RA recovery, and combining use of acupuncture and compound Fengshining had better effect.展开更多

For examples: Jianyu(LI 15), Jianneiling (Ex-UE), Jianzhen(SI 9) are selected to treat shoulder joint diseases; Kunlun(BL 60), Zhaohai(KI 6), Qiuxu(GB 40), Bafeng(Ex-LE 10) and Ashi points are selected to treat anklebone and phalange diseases, plus electroacupuncture and microwave radiation. We treated 118 cases of rheumatoid arthritis. The results showed cure in 12 cases, remarkable effect in 38 cases, improvement in 62 cases and failure in 6 cases. The total effective rate was 97.9%.展开更多

Methods: Seventy patients fulfilled at least 4 items of the diagnostic criteria for rheumatoid arthritis of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR). All patients were instructed not to receive other relevant therapies during research. Patients were randomized into a treatment group and a control group by computer generated assigned codes to receive real acupuncture and sham acupuncture respectively. The codes of randomization were hidden from doctors and patients. Patients were studied before and after the whole acupuncture treatment sessions (36 treatments). The results were assessed according to changes of ESR mm/h, CRP mg/L, rheumatoid factor (RF), the radiological changes (the erosion and osteoporosis of hand or wrist joint), the intensity of pain by visual analogue scale (VAS), the modified questionnaire according to Laitinen and Zytkowski (the intensity of pain, frequency of pain, medicines, limitation of motive activity). Results: No significant differences in comparison of any parameters were shown before treatment. After treatment, the results of VAS and modified questionnaire were far better in the treatment group than in the control. Conclusion: Acupuncture can achieve a positive result compared with the sham, and it is effective in treating rheumatoid arthritis.展开更多

Methods: Patients with rheumatoid were treated with warming needling on the major acupoints of Guanyuan(CV 4), Qihai(CV 6), Zusanli(ST 36), Ganshu(BL 18), Shenshu(BL 23) and Pishu(BL 20), in combination with local acupoints and acupoints on the related meridians, meanwhile, other patients were treated with single needling as control. The patients' joint pain, tenderness, swelling, dysfunction index, gripping force, morning stiffness, walking time of 20 meters, rheumatoid factor, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C response protein, IgG, IgA, and IgM were measured before and after treatments. Results: Warm needling could improve the rheumatoid arthritis patients' symptoms, and had an effective rate of 86.2%, while the single needling had an effective rate of 57.1%(P〈0.01). And the therapeutic effects were related to the disease duration and condition. Conclusion: Warm needling has a better clinical effects on rheumatoid arthritis than the single needling, with obvious functions of anti-inflammation, relieving pain and regulating immunity.展开更多

Methods: A total of 80 RA cases were randomized into an observation group and a control group, 40 in each group. Cases in the observation group received antirheumatic agents and acupuncture therapy, whereas cases in the control group received antirheumatic agents alone. The therapeutic efficacies were observed after 3 sessions of treatment. Results: After the treatment, patients in the observation group had significant improvement in their morning stiffness time, average grip of both hands, joint tenderness and joint swelling, showing statistical significances (P〈0.01); symptoms of patients in the control group were also remarkably improved (P〈0.01, P〈0.05). Compared with the control group, the improvements in joint tenderness and average grip of both hands in the observation group were more significant (P〈0.05). After treatment, the Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) points were significantly improved in both groups, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in both groups were remarkably reduced (P〈0.01, P〈0.05); however, compared with the control group, the CRP decrease in the observation group was more significant (P〈0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture plus antirheumatic agents can effectively increase the RA patients' activities of daily living (ADL) and thus improve their quality of life.展开更多
