By introducing aSu-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) type of perturbation interaction to the double-exchange Hamiltonian, wecalculate again its ground-state phase diagram at Glling x = 0.5 by the unrestricted real-spaceHartree-Fock approximation method. We find that, as the SSH electron-phonon interaction increases, the charge order parameter decreases to zero rapidly but the CE-type antiferromagnetic order becomesmore stable. In other words, the charge order is much more fragile than the CE-type or theNeel-type antiferromagnetic orders under the electron-phonon perturbation. These results support theproposed theory in the recent publications that the charge order in these systems is induced by theantiferromagnetic correlations.展开更多

The aim of this research was to investigate the cytotoxicity and antioxidant activities of Moroccan Pomegranate (peel, leaves, branches, flowers and corolla). Further, the biological activities were correlated with phytochemical contents of the plant extracts. Methanolic extract from different parts of Punica Granatum was assessed for its antiproliferative activity in two human cancer (breast and colon) cells lines (MBA-MD 231 and HT-29), through MTT (3-(4,5-dimethyl-2- thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide) bioassay using cell viability and cytotoxicity indices. DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl) assay was conducted to screen the antioxidant property of the extracts together with its phenolic and flavonoids content were evaluated, as well. The methanolic extract ofPunica Granatum (peel, leaves, branches, flowers and corolla) showed the highest antiproliferative activity on MBA-MD 231 (IC50 was 133.53-233.32 μg/mL) and HT-29 (IC50 was 127.58-203.24 μg/mL) cells. Antioxidants contents are distributed as follows: peel 〉 leaf 〉 flower 〉 corolla 〉 branches. The inhibitory activities required for decreasing initial DPPH by 50% are 8.27, 9.9, 10.06, 11.67 and 13.28 μg/mL, respectively. These results are in correlation with polyphenols content from corolla, peel, leaves, flower and branches are 120.7, 115, 96.65, 90.73 and 64.67 mg GAE/g dw (mg gallic acid equivalents per g dry weight) and flavonoids are 188.8, 221.7, 180.2, 193.7 and 158.5 mg QE/g dw (mg quercetin equivalents per g dry weight). Our results show that the peel, flowers, corolla, leaves and branches of Moroccan Pomegranate may contain a lot of bioactive compounds which are responsible for strong antioxidant and cytotoxicity activities observed here. Our finding indicates the possibility of using the extracts of this plant as source of natural antioxidant and anticancer mainly for its abundant phenolic and flavonoid contents.展开更多

As the system becomes larger, more degrees of freedom are involved and the complexity increases exponentially. At the same time, the multifaceted nature of polyatomic systems also opens up the possibilities for observing many new chemistry and novel phenomena|a land of opportunities. For the past 15 years or so my laboratory has delved into the reaction dynamics of methane+X (X: F, Cl, O(3P), and OH). This effort shifts the paradigm in the field of reaction dynamics by making the title reaction a benchmark polyatomic system. In this account, I shall disclose my thinking behind some of the key concepts and methods we introduced and how the unexpectedly discovered phenomena led to other uncharted territories. Those ndings not only enrich our understanding of the specific reactions we studied at the most fundamental level and inspire the theoretical developments, but also shape our thinking and lay the foundation for future explorations of different aspects of the multifaceted nature of polyatomic reactivity.展开更多

Methods: Expression of mdr1 mRNA and P-gp on para?n embedded sections was detected by in situ polymerase chain reaction (ISPCR) and immunohistochemistry correspondingly from 150 cases of normal and abnormal pancreatic tissues including 97, 32 and 21 cases of pancreatic cancer, pancreatitis and normal pancreatic tissues respectively. Results: Distributions of positive staining in mdr1 mRNA and P-gp were mainly found on the apical plasma membranes and in cytoplasms of endothelial duct cells in tumor and normal tissues. The positive staining rates of expression of the mdr1 mRNA and P-gp detected in all pancreatic tumors were signi?cantly higher than that in pancreatitis and normal tissues correspondingly (P <0.05). Moreover, higher expressions of mdr1 mRNA and P-gp in tumor cells were correlated with some biological characteristics of PC, such as the degree of di?erentiation, aggressiveness and TNM stage of tumors (P <0.05). However, there was no correlation between the rate of expression of mdr1 mRNA and P-gp and some clinical ?ndings including age, sex, location and tumor size. Conclusion: The expression of mdr1 gene was associated with “natural” multi-drug resistance in PC. There was an important guiding signi?cance between the detection of expression of mdr1 gene and prediction of the sensitivity to chemotherapy of PC. Meanwhile, it probably could be used as one of profoundly parameters to assess the degrees of di?erentiation and prognosis in PC.展开更多
