In the poems created by the renowned American poet Emily Dickinson, those related to nature constitute a considerable proportion. However,Dickinson’s attitude toward nature is,in fact, contradictory. On the one hand,Dickinson perceives nature as gentle and kind, akin to a mother.Nature is regarded as“heaven”and embodies harmony. On the other hand, nature possesses its own operational principles and harbors inherent cruelty.According to Dickinson, humans should refrain from excessive interference in the natural order. This article attempts to analyze the similarities in attitude towards nature between Dickinson’s poetry and Taoist philosophy. 展开更多

Its protagonist Prufrock is not a concrete single person, but an abstraction of all modem men in trouble. He is alienated by women, time and space, and hence he is paralyzed and helpless. The use of dramatic monologue and stream of consciousness, quotation and allusions, objective correlative and startling imagery, irony and anti-climax, refrain and rhythm, fragmentation and juxtaposition not only deepens the theme, but also establishes Eliot's reputation as a leading modernist poet. 展开更多

Based on the elaboration of the content and status of rural cooperative finance, rural cooperative finance--the alienation of rural credit cooperative is introduced from three aspects of the concept and objective of management, the organizational form and management mode, and the service object and business scope. Causes of alienation are analyzed. Firstly, change in the economic foundation of cooperative finance is the fundamental reasons for the alienation. Secondly, mandatory system change led by the government is an important reason for alienation. Thirdly, property and administration structure of rural credit cooperative are the internal reasons for alienation of agricultural support. To achieve the innovation of rural cooperative financial organization, the following aspects should be done: cultivating the basis for rural cooperative economy, further promoting the reform of rural credit cooperatives (innovating a variety of property rights modes; making clear definition of ownership; implementing the internal governance structure), introducing competition in the field of rural cooperative finance, and homing function of government and rural cooperative finance. 展开更多

He is unsocial in character and unconventional in behavior. His reclusion can be regarded as the behavioral presentation of his alienation. Salinger also portrays many alienated characters in his The catcher in the rye and Nine stories. These alienated characters include children, adolescents and adults. They alienate themselves from dominant social culture, groups and even themselves. According to the analysis of these alienated protagonists from autobiographical and historical perspectives, the root of their alienation lies in the conflict between their searching for the ideal love and the absence of such love in the dominant society. So comparing with enjoying substantial life, Salinger's works can arouse people's interest and give more concern to their spiritual life. 展开更多

The enormous change of the earlier 20thcentury has not only brought false prosperity to the society but also pushed people into spiritual wasteland. Indifference and alienation have replaced communication and trust among people or between one and self. By analyzing the alienation among people, the self-split of oneself and the reasons resulting these in William Faulkner's As I lay Dying, the concern of Faulkner about the social phenomenon and his pursuit of transcending the personal to a universal level will be better presented to us. 展开更多

The literary background of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel Never Let Me Go sets in a highly developed scientific and technological world where clones are created by human and“educated”in the Hailsham School for the sake of“donating”their vital organs to human three or four times before death.By depicting miserable fate of clones, the novel conveys deep concerns on the consequences of abusing technology in modern society.Ever since the burgeoning development of life science and artificial intelligence in the 1990s,the trend of posthumanism/transhumanism has emerged.Posthumanism promotes approaches to enhancing human body condition and organism, and extending human lifespan to augment human capacity and well-being by the advancement of technology. In literary field, contemplation on the relationship between human beings and technology has become a major concern of posthumanism.Putting Never Let Me Go in the context of posthumanism, this essay probes into the significant themes of the novel from three aspects:(1)clones’torments in the existential predicaments imposed by human;(2)human’s violation to the principles of bioethics causing the existential predicaments of alienated clones;(3)appealing to human to ruminate on the relationship between scientific technology and ethics. 展开更多

Study on eco-landscape attraction focuses on the congregate effect of production factors, but the spatial alienation of the congregate factors is an academic blind zone. This paper takes urban eco-water recreation space as the experiment object, explores the spatial alienation process of eco-landscape attraction, i.e., the homogeneous landscapes' attraction prefers alienation after factor magnetic field's differentiation, and then the attraction spaces of similar landscape areas are apt to alienation, finally leading to another new eco-landscape attraction's spatial structure of "homogeneous landscapes repel each other, heterogeneous landscapes attract" and the construction of eco-recreation alternating buffer model. In addition, this research proposes the testing procedures and evaluation method of that model, ensuring the structural innovation and application universality of the new urban recreation space planning. 展开更多

Architectural practice during the last century was influenced by Western architectural theories. These theories were reflections of the contradictions of human beings’lives:the result was contradictions in architecture. The research aims to launch a view of the fundamentals of what we might call Muslim architectural theory, fundamentals that can control the future of architecture. Thus,it offers a set of principles coming from Muslim thought;these principles highlight humanitarian needs to be fulfilled by architecture. This paper makes the following assumptions:(1)Re-forming architecture requires re-forming the human.(2)The interaction between the social environment on one side and the built environment on the other side achieves human comfort.(3)Principles derived from Muslim thought set up general rules that can order architectural practice.Based on these theories, this paper has a goal of crystallizing a new theory that governs present-day architecture. Thus, the paper studies human needs in architecture.Besides,it has an implementation part to explain how architecture fulfills human needs. It further shows the extent to which the built environment can satisfy those needs. The research includes thirty needs traced from Muslim thought.Consequently, the research examined the presence of these needs in one traditional Arabian house. 展开更多

One's alienation from herself/himself and the Though alienation begins with the disharmony, society in which she/he lives is a common theme in literature. or anomaly, between the society and individual, it usually ends up with the individual's distanciation from the society and retreat into her/his private and inner space. Yet s/he cannot get rid of the problems surrounding her/him and experiences a disastrous end. In this sense, the novel Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert, a nineteenth-century French novelist, and Kirahk Konak (The Mansion for Sale) by Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoglu, a twentieth-century Turkish writer, are two ideal examples for this theme in that the protagonists of these two novels are alienated from themselves and their society. This study is intended to make a comparative analysis of these two novels on the basis of the term "alienation" in the light of Emile Durkheim's views of the issue. 展开更多

The popular singer and songwriter Bruce Springsteen is a product of the working-class family, and his songs often creatively capture not only working-class life but also workers' alienation from their labor. In an unsystematic way, Springsteen's lyrics portray how modem workers are alienated from the products of their labor, the process of working, other workers, and ultimately, from themselves. Although Springsteen primarily has blue-collar, industrial workers in mind, his thoughts on the alienation of labor continue to have relevance for workers in the American consumer society and in the contemporary global economy as well. 展开更多
