The MPSK signals with unknown signal noise ratios (SNRs) are modeled as a Gaussian mixture model with unknown means and covariances in the constellation plane, and a clustering method is proposed to estimate the probability density of the MPSK signals. The method is based on the nonparametric Bayesian inference, which introduces the Dirichlet process as the prior probability of the mixture coefficient, and applies a normal inverse Wishart (NIW) distribution as the prior probability of the unknown mean and covariance. Then, according to the received signals, the parameters are adjusted by the Monte Carlo Markov chain (MCMC) random sampling algorithm. We combine knowledge gained through applications of the Maximum Entropy Principle and Nash equilibrium strategies to provide results concerning the use of Bayesian approaches unique to the Monty Hall problem. We use a model to describe Monty’s decision process and clarify that Bayesian inference results in an “irrelevant, therefore invariant” hypothesis. We discuss the advantages of Bayesian inference over the frequentist inference in tackling the uneven prior probability Monty Hall variant. We demonstrate that the use of Bayesian statistics conforms to the Maximum Entropy Principle in information theory and Bayesian approach successfully resolves dilemmas in the uneven probability Monty Hall variant. Our findings have applications in the decision making, information theory, bioinformatics, quantum game theory and beyond.展开更多

文摘This paper is focused on the state estimation problem for nonlinear systems with unknown statistics of measurement noise.Based on the cubature Kalman filter,we propose a new nonlinear filtering algorithm that employs a skew t distribution to characterize the asymmetry of the measurement noise. The system states and the statistics of skew t noise distribution, including the shape matrix, the scale matrix, and the degree of freedom(DOF)are estimated jointly by employing variational Bayesian(VB)inference. The proposed method is validated in a target tracking example. Results of the simulation indicate that the proposed nonlinear filter can perform satisfactorily in the presence of unknown statistics of measurement noise and outperform than the existing state-of-the-art nonlinear filters.

文摘In this paper, we construct a Bayesian framework combining Type-Ⅰ progressively hybrid censoring scheme and competing risks which are independently distributed as exponentiated Weibull distribution with one scale parameter and two shape parameters. Since there exist unknown hyper-parameters in prior density functions of shape parameters, we consider the hierarchical priors to obtain the individual marginal posterior density functions,Bayesian estimates and highest posterior density credible intervals. As explicit expressions of estimates cannot be obtained, the componentwise updating algorithm of Metropolis-Hastings method is employed to compute the numerical results. Finally, it is concluded that Bayesian estimates have a good performance.

文摘Efficient estimation of line spectral from quantized samples is of significant importance in information theory and signal processing,e.g.,channel estimation in energy efficient massive MIMO systems and direction of arrival estimation. The goal of this paper is to recover the line spectral as well as its corresponding parameters including the model order, frequencies and amplitudes from heavily quantized samples. To this end,we propose an efficient gridless Bayesian algorithm named VALSE-EP,which is a combination of the high resolution and low complexity gridless variational line spectral estimation(VALSE)and expectation propagation(EP).The basic idea of VALSE-EP is to iteratively approximate the challenging quantized model of line spectral estimation as a sequence of simple pseudo unquantized models, where VALSE is applied. Moreover,to obtain a benchmark of the performance of the proposed algorithm, the Cram′er Rao bound(CRB)is derived. Finally, numerical experiments on both synthetic and real data are performed, demonstrating the near CRB performance of the proposed VALSE-EP for line spectral estimation from quantized samples.

文摘A novel variational Bayesian inference based on adaptive cubature Kalman filter(VBACKF)algorithm is proposed for the problem of state estimation in a target tracking system with time-varying measurement noise and random measurement losses.Firstly, the Inverse-Wishart(IW)distribution is chosen to model the covariance matrix of time-varying measurement noise in the cubature Kalman filter framework.Secondly, the Bernoulli random variable is introduced as the judgement factor of the measurement losses, and the Beta distribution is selected as the conjugate prior distribution of measurement loss probability to ensure that the posterior distribution and prior distribution have the same function form. Finally, the joint posterior probability density function of the estimated variables is approximately decoupled by the variational Bayesian inference, and the fixed-point iteration approach is used to update the estimated variables. The simulation results show that the proposed VBACKF algorithm considers the comprehensive effects of system nonlinearity,time-varying measurement noise and unknown measurement loss probability, moreover, effectively improves the accuracy of target state estimation in complex scene.

文摘Aiming at the problem of filtering precision degradation caused by the random outliers of process noise and measurement noise in multi-target tracking(MTT) system,a new Gaussian-Student’s t mixture distribution probability hypothesis density(PHD) robust filtering algorithm based on variational Bayesian inference(GST-vbPHD) is proposed.Firstly, since it can accurately describe the heavy-tailed characteristics of noise with outliers,Gaussian-Student’s t mixture distribution is employed to model process noise and measurement noise respectively. Then Bernoulli random variable is introduced to correct the likelihood distribution of the mixture probability, leading hierarchical Gaussian distribution constructed by the Gaussian-Student’s t mixture distribution suitable to model non-stationary noise. Finally, the approximate solutions including target weights, measurement noise covariance and state estimation error covariance are obtained according to variational Bayesian inference approach. The simulation results show that,in the heavy-tailed noise environment, the proposed algorithm leads to strong improvements over the traditional PHD filter and the Student’s t distribution PHD filter.
文摘We devise an approach to Bayesian statistics and their applications in the analysis of the Monty Hall problem. Our findings have applications in the decision making, information theory, bioinformatics, quantum game theory and beyond.
文摘Traditional global sensitivity analysis(GSA)neglects the epistemic uncertainties associated with the probabilistic characteristics(i.e.type of distribution type and its parameters)of input rock properties emanating due to the small size of datasets while mapping the relative importance of properties to the model response. This paper proposes an augmented Bayesian multi-model inference(BMMI)coupled with GSA methodology(BMMI-GSA)to address this issue by estimating the imprecision in the momentindependent sensitivity indices of rock structures arising from the small size of input data. The methodology employs BMMI to quantify the epistemic uncertainties associated with model type and parameters of input properties. The estimated uncertainties are propagated in estimating imprecision in moment-independent Borgonovo’s indices by employing a reweighting approach on candidate probabilistic models. The proposed methodology is showcased for a rock slope prone to stress-controlled failure in the Himalayan region of India. The proposed methodology was superior to the conventional GSA(neglects all epistemic uncertainties)and Bayesian coupled GSA(B-GSA)(neglects model uncertainty)due to its capability to incorporate the uncertainties in both model type and parameters of properties.Imprecise Borgonovo’s indices estimated via proposed methodology provide the confidence intervals of the sensitivity indices instead of their fixed-point estimates, which makes the user more informed in the data collection efforts.Analyses performed with the varying sample sizes suggested that the uncertainties in sensitivity indices reduce significantly with the increasing sample sizes. The accurate importance ranking of properties was only possible via samples of large sizes.Further, the impact of the prior knowledge in terms of prior ranges and distributions was significant;hence, any related assumption should be made carefully.
文摘This study introduces a method to predict the remaining useful life(RUL)of plain bearings operating under stationary,wear-critical conditions. In this method, the transient wear data of a coupled elastohydrodynamic lubrication(mixed-EHL)and wear simulation approach is used to parametrize a statistical, linear degradation model. The method incorporates Bayesian inference to update the linear degradation model throughout the runtime and thereby consider the transient,system-dependent wear progression within the RUL prediction.A case study is used to show the suitability of the proposed method. The results show that the method can be applied to three distinct types of post-wearing-in behavior:wearing-in with subsequent hydrodynamic, stationary wear, and progressive wear operation. While hydrodynamic operation leads to an infinite lifetime, the method is successfully applied to predict RUL in cases with stationary and progressive wear.
文摘The critical slip distance in rate and state model for fault friction in the study of potential earthquakes can vary wildly from micrometers to few me-ters depending on the length scale of the critically stressed fault. This makes it incredibly important to construct an inversion framework that provides good estimates of the critical slip distance purely based on the observed ac-celeration at the seismogram. To eventually construct a framework that takes noisy seismogram acceleration data as input and spits out robust estimates of critical slip distance as the output,we first present the performance of the framework for synthetic data. The framework is based on Bayesian inference and Markov chain Monte Carlo methods. The synthetic data is generated by adding noise to the acceleration output of spring-slider-damper idealization of the rate and state model as the forward model.
