Considering special second and third order coefficients (&g = 363 = a2), we analyze the thermodynamics of third order Lovelock-Born-Infeld black holes and, in 7-dimensional AdS space-time, discuss the stability of black holes in different event horizon structures. Dual actions with respect to U(1) gauge fields for the Born-Infeld and Dp-brane theories are reexamined.Taking into account an additional condition,i.e.a corollary to the field equation of the auxiliary metric,one obtainsan alternative dual action that does not involve the infinite series in the auxiliary metric given by [M.Abou Zeid andC.M.Hull,Phys.Lett.B 428 (1998) 277],but just picks out the first term from the series formally.New effectiveinteractions of the theories are revealed.That is,the new dual action gives rise to an effective interaction in terms ofone interaction term rather than infinitely many terms of different (higher) orders of interactions physically.However,the price paid for eliminating the infinite series is that the new action is not quadratic but highly nonlinear in the Hodgedual of a (p-1)-form field strength.This non-linearity is inevitable under the requirement that the two dual actionsare equivalent. 展开更多

This paper studies phantom linear scalar field (LSF) and phantom non-linear Born-Infeld (NLBI) scalar field with square potential of the form V(Ф) =1/2m^2Ф^2. The equation of state parameter w(z), and evolution of scale factor a(t) in both phantom LSF and phantom NLBI scalar model are explored. The age of universe Hot and the transition redshift Z are obtained. The Gold data set of 157-SN-Ia is used to constrain parameters of the two models by numerical calculation. The phantom LSF is slightly better than the phantom NLBI type scalar field model for a large m. Although a smaller m corresponding to a slower rolling of field Ф better fits the observation data, the difference between phantom NLBI scalar field and phantom LSF is not distinct in this case. 展开更多

Quasinormal modes(QNMs)for massless and massive Dirac perturbations of Born-Infeld black holes(BHs)in higher dimensions are investigated.Solving the corresponding master equation in accordance with hypergeometric functions and the QNMs are evaluated.We discuss the relationships between QNM frequencies and spacetime dimensions.Meanwhile,we also discuss the stability of the Born-Infeld BH by calculating the temporal evolution of the perturbation field.Both the perturbation frequencies and the decay rate increase with increasing dimension of spacetime n.This shows that the Born-Infeld BHs become more and more unstable at higher dimensions.Furthermore,the traditional finite difference method is improved,so that it can be used to calculate the massive Dirac field.We also elucidate the dynamic evolution of Born-Infeld BHs in a massive Dirac field.Because the number of extra dimensions is related to the string scale,there is a relationship between the spacetime dimension n and the properties of Born-Infeld BHs that might be advantageous for the development of extra-dimensional brane worlds and string theory. 展开更多

Hawking radiation and entropy of a black hole in Lovelock-Born-Infeld gravity from the quantum tunneling approach

The tunneling radiation of particles from black holes in Lovelock-Born-Infeld(LBI) gravity is studied by using the Parikh-Wilczek(PW) method,and the emission rate of a particle is calculated.It is shown that the emission spectrum deviates from the purely thermal spectrum but is consistent with an underlying unitary theory.Compared to the conventional tunneling rate related to the increment of black hole entropy,the entropy of the black hole in LBI gravity is obtained.The entropy does not obey the area law unless all the Lovelock coefficients equal zero,but it satisfies the first law of thermodynamics and is in accordance with earlier results.It is distinctly shown that the PW tunneling framework is related to the thermodynamic laws of the black hole. 展开更多

In this paper,the Joule-Thomson expansion of Born-Infeld AdS black holes is studied in the extended phase space,where the cosmological constant is identified with the pressure.The Joule-Thomson coefficient,the inversion curves and the isenthalpic curves are discussed in detail using a 4-dimensional black hole.The critical point of a Born-Infeld black hole is depicted with varying parameter β and the charge Q.In T-P plane,the inversion temperature curves and isenthalpic curves are obtained with different parameter β and charge Q.We find that the missing negative slope is still conserved in Born-Infeld black holes.We also extend our discussion to arbitrary dimension higher than 4.The critical temperature and the minimum of inversion temperature are compared.The ratio is asymptotically 1/2 as Q increases or β→∞ with D=4 ,and reproduces previous results at higher dimensions. 展开更多

In this study,we examine the laws of thermodynamics and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture in the normal and extended phase spaces of Born-Infeld-anti-de Sitter black holes by considering a charged particle absorption.In the normal phase space,the first and second laws of thermodynamics as well as the weak cosmic censorship are still valid.However,in the extended phase space,the second law of thermodynamics is violated for double-horizon black holes and part of single-horizon black holes.The first law of thermodynamics and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture are still valid for all types of black holes.In addition,we found that the shift of the metric function,which determines the locations of the horizons,takes the same form at the minimum point in both the normal and extended phase spaces,indicating that the weak cosmic censorship conjecture is independent of the thermodynamic phase space. 展开更多
