After 2 000 years' development, many essences of Confucianism have been integrated into the Chinese ideological concept, thinking way and value orientation, influencing the social development. Based on the idea of 'people-oriented', this research discusses the impact of Confucianism on urban landscape design from the perspectives of 'Harmony between Heaven and Man', the Doctrine of the Mean, aesthetic principle, 'Courtesy Rule' and compatibility. It tries to provide theoretical basis for the design ideas of architecture elements in urban landscape.

Solving the Century Problem“Modern Transformation of China’s Traditional Confucianism”—A Mistake-Tolerant Democracy Perspective

Ezra Pound＇s Conversion to Confucianism

The paper aims to explore Pound＇s early discovery of Confucianism and his conversion to Confucianism. Pound＇s interest in Confucianism coincided with the time when Christianity, already ＂contaminated＂ by ＂historical diseases＂ in Pound＇s view, could not offer a valid vision by which to guide the spiritual life, resulting in losing self in a modem society. Pound discovers three main deficiencies of Christianity： lack of respect for individuality, the decline of ethics, and open attack upon nature, which could not provide solutions to Western problems. Pound turned to Confucianism to search the existence of modem man in the face of society, and nature, which results in Pound＇s Confucian medicine to cure Western moral obtuseness.

Anti-Confucianism:The Formation Process and the Ideology Essence of the Cultural Policy of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom

The“anti-Confucianism”constituted the main feature of the cultural policy of the Taiping Rebellion.However,the anti-Confucianism movement of the Taiping Rebellion was mainly in form rather than in content,and mainly in action rather than in thought,which manifested itself in a policy of banning and destroying the physical forms of Confucian memorial tablets,Confucian temples,and Confucian classics.The core elements of Confucianism were all inherited and retained by Hong Xiuquan,who was committed to subverting Confucius’position as the cultural authority of Chinese society,so Confucianism,together with Christian thought and folk religious thought,constituted the main source of the ideology of the Taiping Rebellion.It was the influence of Confucianism and folk religious thought on Hong Xiuquan that gave the idea of worshipping God a localized character and made a new type of religion that combined Chinese and Western elements.The“anti-Confucianism”was mostly based on an irrational political movement,and the Taiping Rebellion never criticized the doctrine of Confucius and Mencius from a theoretical point of view.Thus the political submission of civil society to the Taiping Rebellion hardly rose to the level of political identification.Cultural antipathy,to some extent,led to the eventual defeat of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.

The Images of Confucianism Constructed by Europe in the Sixteenth to Nineteenth Centuries

This paper is a historical survey of western construction of the images of Con-fucianism ranging from the sixteenth century to nineteenth century. The historical process ofWestern version of Confucianism originally was traced back to European missionaries, whoplayed crucial role in collecting Confucian primary sources and praising the ethical and socialvalues of Confucianism. Inspired by the primary sources of Confucianism, Enlightenmentscholars represented the image of Confucianism as romanticized ideal of natural theory andpractical morality for European culture. However, western＇ s imagination of Confucianism inthe nineteenth century shifted from a cultural and political ideal to childish and static traditioninferior to European culture, as emphasized in Hegel and Herder＇ s works. All these Westernimages of Confucianism illustrate the historical expressions of European self - presentation,self- confirmation and self- criticism.

Mohist Theoretic System: The Rivalry Theory of Confucianism and Interconnections With the Universal Values and Global Sustainability

Mohism was established in the Warring State period for two centuries and half.It is the third biggest schools following Confucianism and Daoism.Mozi(468 B.C.-376 B.C.)was the first major intellectual rivalry to Confucianism and he was taken as the second biggest philosophy in his times.However,Mohism is seldom studied during more than 2,000 years from Han dynasty to the middle Qing dynasty due to his opposition claims to the dominant Confucian ideology.In this article,the author tries to illustrate the three potential functions of Mohism:First,the critical/revision function of dominant Confucianism ethics which has DNA functions of Chinese culture even in current China;second,the interconnections with the universal values of the world;third,the biological constructive function for global sustainability.Mohist had the fame of one of two well-known philosophers of his times,Confucian and Mohist.His ideas had a decisive influence upon the early Chinese thinkers while his visions of meritocracy and the public good helps shape the political philosophies and policy decisions till Qin and Han(202 B.C.-220 C.E.)dynasties.Sun Yet-sen(1902)adopted Mohist concepts“to take the world as one community”(tian xia wei gong)as the rationale of his democratic theory and he highly appraised Mohist concepts of equity and“impartial love”(jian ai).Liang Qichao and Lu Xun appreciated Mohism.And early Chinese Communist Party leaders,such as Chen Duxiu,Li Dazhao,Zhang Tailei,and Mao Zedong had highly complimented Mohism,including the dialectic materialism.To some extent,Mohism had big impact on the theories of Chinese Communist Party.

Confucianism in Du Fu＇s Poetry and Sun Dayu＇s Translation

The great Chinese poet Du Fu＇s poetry in the Dang Dynasty has important significance in the development of the world culture. Confucianism is the main theme of his poetry, which penetrates connotation of benevolence, love of all life and self-cultivation.
