Could Long-Term Stability Last Forever?

The subject of the present paper is to prove that the recently introduced conjecture of boundedness puts a ban over the view of stability as asymptotic property. This result comes in sharp contrast with the prescription of the traditional thermodynamics and statistical physics which consider the existence of equilibrium as asymptotic property of all systems. The difference commences from the use of infinitesimal calculus as the basic implement for modelling by the latter while the primary premise of the conjecture of boundedness is sustaining the energy/matter/information permanently bounded and finite. The latter property overrules the infinitesimal calculus as the major implement of modelling because, among all, it is proven that the traditional one suffers unsoluble difficulties.

Multi-criteria decision-making approach with incomplete certain information based on ternary AHP

It is not uncommon in multiple criteria decision-making that the numerical values of alternatives of some criteria are subject to imprecision, uncertainty and indetermination and the information on weights of criteria is incomplete certain. A new multiple criteria decision- making method with incomplete certain information based on ternary AHP is proposed. This improves on Takeda＇s method. In this method, the ternary comparison matrix of the alternatives under each pseudo-criteria is constructed, the eigenvector associated with the maximum eigenvalue of the ternary comparison matrix is attained as to normalize priority vector of the alternatives, then the order of alternatives is obtained by solving two kinds of linear programming problems. Finally, an example is given to show the feasibility and effectiveness of the method.

Multi-criteria classification approach with polynomial aggregation function and incomplete certain information

The relationship between the importance of criterion and the criterion aggregation function is discussed, criterion＇s weight and combinational weights between some criteria are defined, and a multi-criteria classification method with incomplete certain information and polynomial aggregation function is proposed. First, linear programming is constructed by classification to reference alternative set （assignment examples） and incomplete certain information on criterion＇s weights. Then the coefficient of the polynomial aggregation function and thresholds of categories are gained by solving the linear programming. And the consistency index of alternatives is obtained, the classification of the alternatives is achieved. The certain criteria＇s values of categories and uncertain criteria＇s values of categories are discussed in the method. Finally, an example shows the feasibility and availability of this method.

Effect of Certain Toxicants on Gonadotropin-Induced Ovarian Non-Esterified Cholesterol Depletion and Steroidogenic Enzyme Stimulation of the Common Carp Cyprinus carpio in vitro

Isolated ovarian tissues from the common carp, Cyprinus carpio were incubated in vitro to obtain a discrete effect of four common toxicants of industrial origin, namely phenol, sulfide, mercuric chloride and cadmium chloride, on gonadotropin-induced alteration of nonesterified and esterified cholesterol and steroidogenic enzymes, △5-3β-HSD and 17β-HSD activity. Stage II ovarian tissue containing 30-40% mature oocytes were shown to be most responsive to gonadotropins in depleting only nonesterified cholesterol moiety and stimulating the activity of both. Safe doses of above mentioned toxicants when added separately to stage II ovarian tissue with oLH (1 μg/incubation) gonadotropin-induced depletion of nonesterified cholesterol and gonadotropin-induced stimulation of the activity of both enzymes was significantly inhibited. Esterified cholesterol remained almost unaltered. Findings clearly indicate the impairment of gonadotropin induced fish ovarian steroidogenesis by the four toxicants separately.

Fusion of multiagent preference orderings with information on agent's importance being incomplete certain

The problem of fusing multiagent preference orderings, with information on agent＇s importance being incomplete certain with respect to a set of possible courses of action, is described. The approach is developed for dealing with the fusion problem described in the following sections and requires that each agent provides a preference ordering over the different alternatives completely independent of the other agents, and the information on agent＇s importance is incomplete certain. In this approach, the ternary comparison matrix of the alternatives is constructed, the eigenvector associated with the maximum eigenvalue of the ternary comparison matrix is attained so as to normalize priority vector of the alternatives. The interval number of the alternatives is then obtained by solving two sorts of linear programming problems. By comparing the interval numbers of the alternatives, the ranking of alternatives can be generated. Finally, some examples are given to show the feasibility and effectiveness of the method.

Protective Effects of Certain Natural and Synthetic Complexans on the Toxicity of Chromium and Tin to a N_2-Fixing Cyanobacterium, Anabaena doliolum

The effects of chromium and tin on survival, growth, carbon fixation, nitrate reduction, ammonia assimilation, and nitrogenase activity of a N_2-fixing cyanobacterium, Anabaena doliolum, and their amelioration by synthetic and natural complexans, viz., EDTA, nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA), pyridine dicarboxylic acid (PDA), and citrate, have been studied. Chromium proved to be much more toxic than tin, as it inhibited growth yield (49%), carbon fixation (53%), and nitrate reductase (79%), glutamine synthetase (30%), and nitrogenase activities (77%) at its sublethal concentration, whereas tin induced less inhibition of growth yield (42%), carbon fixation (50%). and nitrate reductase (66%), glutamine synthetase (32.4%), and nitrogenase activities (70%). Despite its inhibitory effects at 10μml^(-1), EDTA supplementation in metal-spiked medium counteracted the toxicity of chromium and tin more significantly than NTA, PDA, and citrate. When supplemented with LD_(50) of Cr, EDTA protected growth, carbon fixation, NR, GS. and Noase, respectively, by 32.6, 50.0, 33.3. 17.7. and 65.4%. However, EDTA-induced restoration of the above parameters at a sublethal concentration of tin was only 30.2, 50.0,28.1, 27.7, and 61.5%, respectively. Although NTA and citrate at 10/μgml^(-1) each were stimulatory to various processes of test cyanobacterium, they were comparatively less effective than EDTA in the amelioration of metal toxicity. On the basis of these observations, a generalized hierarchical sequence of protective efficiency of synthetic and natural cornplexing ligands may be given as EDTA > NTA > citrate > PDA. It seems plausible that the toxicity of various heavy metals may be regulated by a large array of organic complexing agents of the aquatic environment because they possess various metal binding sites. Inhibition of Carcinogen Induced Activity of γ-glutamyl Transpeptidase by CertainDietary Constituents in Mouse Skin

Cancer chemoprevention, a desirable and important facet of biomedical research, provides a practical approach to identify potentially useful inhibitors of cancer development, and offers an opporiunity to study the mechanism of carcinogenesis. During the recent Past a number of compounds have been tested for their anticarcinogenic potential specially constituents of our diet. The enzyme γglutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) which catalyses the transfer of glutamyl groups of peptides to other peptides and amino acid and has been proposed as a marker of cell proliferation and neoplasia. It also serves as a tool to evaluate the carcinogenic and cocarcinogenic potential of environmental toxicants. In the present investigations, CGT activity induced by careinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydmiarbons, viz. 7, 12-dimethylbenz(a) anthracene (DMBA) and benzo(a) pyrene (BaP) was significantly inhibited by diallylsulfide (DAS) and indole-3-carbnol (I3C) in mouse skin. DAS and 13C are constituents of garlic and cruciferous vegetables respectively. A significant iIthibition in GGT levels was also observed in a strong mitogen (12-o-tetradecanoyl phorbol-13-acetate) induced activity in mouse skin by pretreatment with DAS/13C. Therefore these dietary constituents seem to be strong modifiers of chemically induced carcinogenesis
