Remembering Soong Ching Ling at the 75th Anniversary of the PRC

An exhibition in Beijing pays tribute to a remarkable woman who was a pillar of China’s revolutionary movement.SOONG Ching Ling,one of the founders of the People’s Republic of China(PRC),passed away in 1981 but her work to support the revolution in China and create a network of loyal friends worldwide for the PRC lives on through the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation(CSCLF).Soong’s life was defined by the struggle for a new China and her prolific writings and speeches have become important documents in Chinese history.

I-Ching,Chinese Thinking Mode And Chinese Language

I-Ching regards human-being as an integral part of nature and stresses the relative complimentary of the two opposing principles of nature, Yin and Yang. Therefore, under the influence of I-Ching, the Chinese thinking mode is different from the westerners'. The Chinese thinking pattern is holistic, dynamic and abstract, but lacking logic and inference. The Chinese tend to express their ideas succinctly in a few simple remarks. Consequently Chinese is a concise and comprehensive language full of hint and ambiguity.

A novel flavonoid from the root of Macrothelypteris torresiana(Gaud.) Ching

A novel flavonoid was isolated from the root of Macrothelypteris torresiana （Gaud.） Ching. The structure of the product was identified as 5, 7-dihydroxy-2-（1, 2-isopropyldioxy-4-oxocyclohex-5-enyl）-chromen-4-one on the ground of chemical and spectro-scopic methods.2009 Jin Lan Ruan. Urban and Rural Spatial Layout based on Taiji Interactive Balance of I Ching

Taiji is a traditional Chinese philosophy. The content is so diversified that can be applied to so many aspects. The research applied yin and yang, unity be- tween heaven and man to urban planning, and analyzed relationship between urban- rural spatial structure, from transport and material/energy exchange. With the prob- lems reviewed, measures are proposed to deal with the relationship between urban- rural areas in urbanization process.

Two new flavanone glycosides from Macrothelypteris torresiana (Gaud.) Ching

Two new flavanone glycosides 1 and 2 were isolated from the aerial parts of Macrothelypteris torresiana （Gaud.） Ching. The structures of two products were identified as （2S）-5,7,2＇,5＇-tetrahydroxyflavanone-2＇-O-β-D-6＂-O-acetylglucopyranoside and （2S）- 5,7,2＇,5＇-tetrahydroxyflavanone-2＇-O-β-D-glucopyranoside on the basis of their chemical and spectral analysis, respectively.

The Exploration of Translator's Subjectivity and Styles——From Four English Versions of Tao Te Ching

Tao Te Ching is chosen as the object of this study due to its everlasting charm and profound thoughts within 5000 characters.The thesis chooses versions translated by Arthur Waley(1889～1966),James Legge(1815～1897),Lin Yutang(1895～1976) and Gu Zheng kun(1951～) as the study cases on the account of their different cultural background and historical context,and also of their respective pur poses and interpretations.The translation products of these four translators are selected to analyze the subjectivity played by each of them and to explore to which extent the style and characteristics of the translators could influence the translation versions.

Ching Ming Group Limited die-casting project held groundbreaking ceremony in Xishan District, Wuxi city

In mid-November, 2017, the project of New Energy Vehicle Engine Parts of Ching Ming （Wuxi） Metal Technology Co., Ltd. held a groundbreaking ceremony in Yangjian Town, Xishan District, Wuxi city. The project is invested by the renowned die-casting company - Hong Kong Ching Ming Group Limited, with a total investment of US$ 100 million. The project, covering an area of 84 thousand square meters （the building area is 80 thousand square meters）, will mainly focus its business on research, development, and production of key parts of new energy automotive engines.

Discussion on the theoretical basis of strengthening Yang from "Doing Nothing" in Tao Te Ching

Background:As described in Tao Te Ching,Tao does nothing but can accomplish everything.Methods:Exploring this artistic concept through the image“valley spirit dies not”,we see it produce“Names”from“Having No Name”.Results:The role of essence in the body is similar to the“Doing Nothing”way of Tao,and through strengthening Yang,Yang Qi can be unblocked so as to restore the nature of“Doing Nothing”and generate Qi,essence,blood,and bodily fluids to treat disease.

2022 Soong Ching Ling International Forum on Children's Development Opened in Beijing

On November 21st,the 2022 Soong Ching Ling International Forum on Children’s Development was held in China Soong Ching Ling Science and Culture Centre for Young People.This forum was co-hosted by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and China Welfare Institute,co-organised by China Federation of Internet Societies,Capital Normal University and China Soong Ching Ling Science andCulture Centre for Young People,andheldunder the auspices of China Education Association for International Exchange.

Comparison of Keyword Translations in Tao Teh Ching From the Perspective of Skopos Theory

Tao Teh Ching,which is commonly regarded as the greatest book of Taoism in China,is rich in meaning and profound in annotation.In spite of its limited length,it has a great impact on Chinese philosophy.Due to its great popularity,the number of its translations remains increasing,and the translations by different translators vary from each other.The authors make comparison between James Legge’s and Lin Yutang’s translations of some keywords in Tao Teh Ching.By studying the two translators’personal experiences and basing on the Skopos Theory,they find out that the translators apply different translation strategies because of their cultural backgrounds and translation purposes.

Petrography and geochemistry of Paleocene-Eocene limestones in the Ching-dar syncline,eastern Iran

The Ching-dar syncline is located to the west of the city of Birjand, in the east of han. The ca. 500 m thick studied section at the eastern flank of the syncline contains a sequence of almost continuous shallow- marine limestones that exhibit no major sedimentary breaks or evidence for volcanic activity. Skeletal grains consist of large benthic foraminifera and green algae whereas non-skeletal grains are mostly peloids and intraclasts. They were deposited on a shallow-marine carbonate ramp. The limestones have undergone extensive diagenetic processes with varying intensities, the most important of which are micritization, cementation, compaction （chemical and mechanical）, internal filling and stylolitization. Chemical analysis of the limestone samples revealed high calcium and low magnesium content. Major and minor element values were used to determine the original carbonate mineralogy of these lime- stones. Petrographic evidence and elemental values indicate that calcite was the original carbonate mineral in the limestones of the Ching-dar syncline. The elemental composition of the Ching-dar car- bonates also demonstrates that they have stabilized in a meteoric phreatic environment. Variation of Sr/ Ca vs. Mn values suggests that diagenetic alteration occurred in an open geochemical system.

Soong Ching Ling and Her Magazine-An Interview with Israel Epstein, Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of China Today

Last May 29 was the 20th anniversary of the death Of Mme Soong Ching Ling. In memory of this great woman of the 20th century the Soong Ching Ling Foundation sponsored a series of commemorative activities at her former residence in Beijing, including an exhibition of events in her life and a seminar Israel Epstein, editor-in-chief emeritus of China Today and vice-chairman of the Soong Ching Ling Foundation, was once a close friend of Mme Soong. Reflection on the C-E Translation of Tao Te Ching (Chapter 22)

This paper will give a reflective report on the C-E translation of Tao Te Ching(Chapter 22).An overall reflection will be introduced in the aspects of words and phrases,sentence patterns and the whole text.Through case analysis,the author has deepened his understanding of translation of Chinese classics and gained experience to translate similar texts.

乌苏里瓦韦(Lepisorus ussuriensis(Regel et Maack)Ching)孢子诱导再生植株的研究

乌苏里瓦韦是一种民间常用的药用蕨类植物,本研究首次建立一种以乌苏里瓦韦孢子为外植体形成完整植株的体系,得到了乌苏里瓦韦体外扩增的方法。为了探究最佳的孢子萌发条件,设计使用6种NAA和6-BA激素组合探究孢子的最佳萌发条件,然后取孢子萌发得到的乌苏里瓦韦叶片,分别接种到不同浓度的NAA和活性炭的组合培养基中,探究乌苏里瓦韦生根的最佳条件。结果表明,乌苏里瓦韦孢子的最佳萌发条件是:1/2MS培养基为基本培养基,附加NAA 0.2 mg/L,6-BA 0.5 mg/L蔗糖30 g/L,琼脂7 g/L;生根的最佳条件为:1/2MS培养基为基本培养基,附加NAA 0.4 mg/L,蔗糖30 g/L,琼脂7 g/L,活性炭1.5 g/L。本研究首次报道了乌苏里瓦韦的体外繁殖形成完整再生植株的方法,为乌苏里瓦韦的人工繁殖,同时为乌苏里瓦韦的可持续开发利用打下坚实基础。

Simultaneous determination of seven caffeoylquinic acids and three flavonoids in Pyrrosia petiolosa(Christ) Ching by RP-UFLC-DAD

An efficient, sensitive, accurate and rapid analytical ultra-fast liquid chromatography （UFLC） method for quality evaluations ofPyrrosia petiolosa （Christ） Ching from 20 regions of China was developed in this study. Ten marker compounds were simultaneously quantified, including 5-caffeoylquinic acid （5-CQA）, 3-caffeoylquinic acid （3-CQA）, 4-caffeoylquinic acid （4-CQA）, 1-caffeoylquinic acid （1-CQA）, 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid （3,5-diCQA）, 4,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid （4,5-diCQA）, 3,4-dicaffeoylquinic acid （3,4-diCQA）, astragalin, kaempferol-3,7-di-O-glucoside and （±）eriodictyol-7-O-β-D-glucuronide. Chromatography was performed on a Kromasil 100-2.5C18 （100 mm×2.1 mm, 2.5 μm） C18 column with gradient elution. The mobile phases consisted of 0.1% formic acid/water （A） and 0.1% formic acid/methanol （B）. The detection wavelength was set at 326 nm and the flow rate was 0.4 mL/min. Ten components were separated well with good linearity （r2〉0.9998）, precision, repeatability, stability. The recovery was in the range of 99.08%-102.77%. The results showed that the content determination using RP-UFLC-DAD fingerprint technique provides an efficient, sensitive, accurate and rapid analytical method for quality assessment ofP. petiolosa （Christ） Ching. Cluster analysis and principal components analysis were successfully applied to analyze 20 samples, the results revealed that the method was efficient and authentic to distinguish producing areas and the source of P. petiolosa （Christ） Ching. Fern botanist Ren-Chang Ching and his taxonomic system

Ren-Chang Ching(秦仁昌,1898-1986)is a famous botanist in China(Fig.1).He is known as the father of Chinese pteridology,having done extensive research on ferns.The Ren-Chang Ching System established by him has made great contributions to fern taxonomy all over the world.

A Cognitive-Semiotic Approach to the Translations of Tao Te Ching

This article pursues a cognitive-semiotic approach to Arthur Waley's English translation and Richard Wilhelm's German translation of the Tao Te Ching. Semiotics of translation is on the way to becoming an independent discipline(Torop, 2008). The semiotic shift in translation studies provides us with a dynamic and holistic view beyond mere lexical and syntactic interests. Based on Peirce's semiotic triangle, a translation model of Chinese classics is proposed, which features the growth and interaction of signs. Two rounds of semiosis between the semiotic system of source language, the pre-semiotic schema of translator and the semiotic system of target language are examined sequentially. In the first semiosis, Waley and Wilhelm adopted different ways of decoding both in the semantic and philosophical dimensions; in the second semiosis, their different ways of recoding give rise to different styles of renditions. Moreover, it is important for translators to bear both the verbal and nonverbal signs in mind, in that translation is an endless semiosis of multimodal communication.

The I Ching and the Binary System

The I Ching or Oracle of change is one of the oldest books in the world. It represents an ancient Chinese philosophy which encompasses a psychology, a calendar and an oracle. Although the early origins are unknown, it probably dates back to the 8th century B. C.

重塑族望:“陆忠”释义与陆绩《周易注》

孙吴时期,吴郡陆氏由“土豪旧族”跨入“高门鼎贵”之列,其根本动因并不在陆氏一族仕途显赫,而在于陆绩被东吴本土旧族视为与孙氏保持某种身份独立和有限度合作的精神象征。这种身份标识的形成,既有陆绩一生的悲剧色彩为底蕴,又有陆氏学行二端的分量为保证,更有当时士人清议和政治舆论场域的推波助澜,从而让“陆忠”之目成为陆氏族望的新标志。晋时,陆机、陆云的遭遇与秉承陆绩之志的陆瑁一支,恰成鲜明对比,无疑加重了陆氏余脉对陆绩兼举离政之道和重学之德这一立场的固守和执着。或者说,六朝陆氏族望的新原点,就在于陆绩学、行二端特别是陆氏《周易注》的微言大义当中。
