This action research which situates itself in the context of Digital Humanities focuses on engaging students of Introductory Chinese course with an assignment to create podcasts in the form of an interview.Requiring students to integrate the aural, oral, and textural information via technology so as to carry a conversation with an interlocutor challenges them to convey their thoughts from the language they think in into meaningful ideas using the target language. In this way, students are“pushed”to convert their listening, speaking, and writing from being isolated components into a more dynamic and cohesive mode of communicating. As they explore expressing their ideas in the language they are learning, they develop the skills and sensibility needed to critically analyze their own work.Although limited in scale, the podcast format urges students to transform what they need to learn into a familiar product. 展开更多

The human digital twin(HDT)emerges as a promising human-centric technology in Industry 5.0,but challenges remain in human modeling and simulation.Digital human modeling(DHM)provides solutions for modeling and simulating human physical and cognitive aspects to support ergonomic analysis. However,it has limitations in real-time data usage, personalized services, and timely interaction. The emerging HDT concept offers new possibilities by integrating multi-source data and artificial intelligence for continuous monitoring and assessment.Hence, this paper reviews the evolution from DHM to HDT and proposes a unified HDT framework from a human factors perspective. The framework comprises the physical twin, the virtual twin, and the linkage between these two.The virtual twin integrates human modeling and AI engines to enable model-data-hybrid-enabled simulation.HDT can potentially upgrade traditional ergonomic methods to intelligent services through real-time analysis, timely feedback, and bidirectional interactions. Finally, the future perspectives of HDT for industrial applications as well as technical and social challenges are discussed. In general, this study outlines a human factors perspective on HDT for the first time, which is useful for cross-disciplinary research and human factors innovation to enhance the development of HDT in industry. 展开更多

The three core issues in the“digital human rights”debate are whether“digital human rights”are possible, necessary, and feasible. Both sides of the debate focus on discovering the value of“digital human rights”to individuals from a semantic level, but ignore the significance of“digital human rights”to the whole society and its subsystems at the level of social structure.By introducing Niklas Luhmann's System Theory, this observation blind spot can be eliminated.Fundamental rights are devoted to directly shaping not a physiological-psychological“individual”as a social environment but a social“person”that can be included by social systems. It is clear that digital human rights are the right to participate in digital communication of a“human”as a“person”,so they are possible in terms of conceptual definition.Digital human rights can help“people”lower the threshold for participation in digital communication, limit the excessive expansion of social systems, and promote the free and complete expression of body and mind,so they are necessary for social functions. There are limitations in the existing two ideas of“incorporating digital human rights into the constitution”.Based on the new construction idea of System Theory of Law,digital human rights as the right to participate in digital communication can be typified into digital communication in social sub-fields such as politics, economy, science, and art.The right to participate constructs a complete digital human rights system, making it feasible on the basis of the constitution. 展开更多

Digital humanities has grown and changed over the years; we have moved away from expecting technology to be a tool to make humanities research easier and faster into one where we are now equal partners. Our collaborative projects drive forward the research agendas of both humanists and technologists. There have been other changes too. The focus of our scholarly interest has moved away from its historical origins in text-based scholarship, although that now has many more possibilities, and we are seeing an interest in exploring culture and heritage more widely. Where the progress is slower is in our moves towards openness and inclusivity, and this is to some extent hampered by a lack of linguistic diversity. This is being addressed with specialist groups within the major DH organizations on a national and a global level. DH has grown rapidly in China, and the anglophone world could do more to engage with practitioners and potential colleagues in this new vibrant and emerging area. There are certainly Western centres that specialize, particularly in Chinese texts and historical documents, but this needs to be extended further if we are not to impose limits on the conversations, synergies and collaborations that can result. 展开更多

As scholars have begun the digitization of the word's cultural materials, the understanding of what is to be digitized and how that digitization occurs remains narrowly imagined, with a distinct bias toward North American and European notions of culture, value and ownership. Humanists are well aware that cultural knowledge, aesthetic value and copyright/ownership are not monolithic, yet digital humanities work often expects the replication of narrow ideas of such. Drawing on the growing body of scholarship that situates the digital humanities in a broad global context, this paper points to areas of tension within the field and posits ways that digital humanities practitioners might resist such moves to homogenize the field. Working within the framework of border studies, the paper considers how working across national barriers might further digital humanities work. Finally, ideas of ownership and/or copyright are unique to country of origin and, as such, deserve careful attention. While open access is appealing in many digital humanities pro- jects, it is not always appropriate, as work with indigenous cultural artifacts has revealed. 展开更多

In the application domain of digital humanities network visualization is increasingly being used to conduct research as the main interests of the domain experts lie in exploring and analyzing relationships between entities and their changes over time.Visualizing the dynamics and different perspectives of such data is a non-trivial task but it enables researchers to explore connections between disparate entities and investigate historical narratives that emerge. In this paper we present Circular,an interactive exploration environment to visualize event-based networks and support research in digital humanities through visualization of historical subjects in space and time. Our radial design is the result of iterative collaboration with domain experts, and we discuss the process of collaborative development and exploration of public music festivities in Vienna as an example of immersive development methodology. We validate our approach by means of both domain and visualization expert interviews and show the potential of this approach in supporting the visual exploration of historical subjects. We discuss our design rationales, visual encodings, and interactions as to allow the reproducibility of this approach within a framework of transdisciplinary collaboration with digital humanities. 展开更多

With the increasing attention to the state and role of people in intelligent manufacturing, there is a strong demand for human-cyber-physical systems (HCPS) that focus on human-robot interaction. The existing intelligent manufacturing system cannot satisfy efcient human-robot collaborative work. However, unlike machines equipped with sensors, human characteristic information is difcult to be perceived and digitized instantly. In view of the high complexity and uncertainty of the human body, this paper proposes a framework for building a human digital twin (HDT) model based on multimodal data and expounds on the key technologies. Data acquisition system is built to dynamically acquire and update the body state data and physiological data of the human body and realize the digital expression of multi-source heterogeneous human body information. A bidirectional long short-term memory and convolutional neural network (BiLSTM-CNN) based network is devised to fuse multimodal human data and extract the spatiotemporal features, and the human locomotion mode identifcation is taken as an application case. A series of optimization experiments are carried out to improve the performance of the proposed BiLSTM-CNN-based network model. The proposed model is compared with traditional locomotion mode identifcation models. The experimental results proved the superiority of the HDT framework for human locomotion mode identifcation. 展开更多

In the digital age,the rise of digital human rights has become an important expansion in the field of human rights. When advancing digital prosecution strategies, prosecutorial agencies should pay greater attention to the protection of digital human rights. The fragile state of digital human rights and the unique position of prosecutorial agencies in human rights protection make it imperative that prosecutorial agencies place more emphasis on fulfilling their responsibilities in legal oversight to promote the protection of digital human rights.Currently, prosecutorial agencies have strengthened the protection of digital human rights through such measures as promoting legal oversight with big data, enhancing the handling of criminal cases involving citizens'digital human rights, expanding the scope of public interest litigation protecting digital human rights, and improving their roles in civil and administrative prosecution. However, there are still challenges related to the inadequacy of updating the mindset, the incompleteness of measures, and the lack of innovation in mechanisms and systems. Therefore, prosecutorial agencies should further align with the implementation of digital prosecution strategies, update their human rights protection concepts, intensify efforts to combat cybercrime, strengthen the protection of citizens'personal information through prosecution, enhance public interest protection of collective digital human rights through public interest litigation, and actively innovate prosecutorial work mechanisms and systems to bolster the protection of digital human rights. 展开更多

Whether a new generation of human rights emerges in the digital age has sparked widespread debate.Academic understanding of digital technology remains confined to thinking about network technology and products, often overlooking the revolutionary nature of digital media.Digital media has the sweeping potential to unify all forms of media and reshape social life, giving rise to new demands for a new generation of human rights. The concept of digital human rights can be defined as the legitimate rights of human's infinitely extended personalities through digital media. Its core characteristic is its transcendency, where every person lives in a networked space that surpasses physical boundaries, nations, and individual personalities.Human rights are generally considered the foundation for basic constitutional rights, which,in turn, form the basis for legislative acts across various sectors. In recent years,China has enacted numerous laws in the digital domain to keep pace with the times, but due to the lack of guidance on digital human rights, these laws tend to be fragmented and disjointed. It is urgent to unify digital legislation at all levels on the basis of reshaping basic constitutional rights. Thus,it is essential to reshape the basic rights based on the concept and characteristics of digital human rights and streamline legislation at all levels under the unified guidance of basic rights. This can help establish a comprehensive digital human rights protection system that meets the demands of the modern era. 展开更多

The advent of the big data era has presented unprecedented challenges to remedies for personal information infringement in areas such as damage assessment, proof of causation, determination of illegality, fault assessment, and liability.Traditional tort law is unable to provide a robust response for these challenges, which severely hinders human rights protection in the digital society. The dynamic system theory represents a third path between fixed constitutive elements and general clauses. It both overcomes the rigidity of the“allor-nothing”legal effect evaluation mechanism of the“element-effect”model and avoids the uncertainty of the general clause model. It can effectively enhance the flexibility of the legal system in responding to social changes. In light of this,it is necessary to construct a dynamic foundational evaluation framework for personal information infringement under the guidance of the dynamic system theory.By relying on the dynamic interplay effect of various foundational evaluation elements, this framework can achieve a flexible evaluation of the constitutive elements of liability and the legal effects of liability for personal information infringement.Through this approach, the crisis of personal information infringement in the era of big data can be mitigated, and the realization of personal information rights as digital human rights can be promoted. 展开更多

The aim of this study was to develop an adequate mathematical model for long-term forecasting of technological progress and economic growth in the digital age (2020-2050). In addition, the task was to develop a model for forecast calculations of labor productivity in the symbiosis of “man + intelligent machine”, where an intelligent machine (IM) is understood as a computer or robot equipped with elements of artificial intelligence (AI), as well as in the digital economy as a whole. In the course of the study, it was shown that in order to implement its goals the Schumpeter-Kondratiev innovation and cycle theory on forming long waves (LW) of economic development influenced by a powerful cluster of economic technologies engendered by industrial revolutions is most appropriate for a long-term forecasting of technological progress and economic growth. The Solow neoclassical model of economic growth, synchronized with LW, gives the opportunity to forecast economic dynamics of technologically advanced countries with a greater precision up to 30 years, the time which correlates with the continuation of LW. In the information and digital age, the key role among the main factors of growth (capital, labour and technological progress) is played by the latter. The authors have developed an information model which allows for forecasting technological progress basing on growth rates of endogenous technological information in economics. The main regimes of producing technological information, corresponding to the eras of information and digital economies, are given in the article, as well as the Lagrangians that engender them. The model is verified on the example of the 5th information LW for the US economy (1982-2018) and it has had highly accurate approximation for both technological progress and economic growth. A number of new results were obtained using the developed information models for forecasting technological progress. The forecasting trajectory of economic growth of developed countries (on the example of the USA) on the upward stage of the 6th LW (2018-2042), engendered by the digital technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution is given. It is also demonstrated that the symbiosis of human and intelligent machine (IM) is the driving force in the digital economy, where man plays the leading role organizing effective and efficient mutual work. Authors suggest a mathematical model for calculating labour productivity in the digital economy, where the symbiosis of “human + IM” is widely used. The calculations carried out with the help of the model show: 1) the symbiosis of “human + IM” from the very beginning lets to realize the possibilities of increasing work performance in the economy with the help of digital technologies;2) the largest labour productivity is achieved in the symbiosis of “human + IM”, where man labour prevails, and the lowest labour productivity is seen where the largest part of the work is performed by IM;3) developed countries may achieve labour productivity of 3% per year by the mid-2020s, which has all the chances to stay up to the 2040s. 展开更多
