人文主义、人道主义等概念是目前中国学术界较为火热的概念。人文主义的基本内涵偏重于人文理性与人文教化。人道主义的内涵则突出体现于人的生存。人们常常用其中的一个指代西方的Humanism。在西方近代思想史上,Humanism最初的内涵与人文修养相关。但是后来逐渐演化为尊重人、突出人的地位与作用的思潮。它具体体现在三个阶段,即尊重人的情欲的文艺复兴时期、尊重人的理智或理性的早期启蒙运动时期,以及尊重人的意志的晚期启蒙运动时期及其之后的若干种思潮。重人而轻神是西方Humanism的基本视域,它与汉语的人道主义较为接近。

Study on New Socialist Countryside Construction from the Perspective of Humanism

On the basis of research data of many scholars,we analyzed implication of new countryside and the construction of new socialist countryside.The new socialist countryside construction is a systematic project,involving rural political,economic,cultural,scientific and technological,sanitation,social security,ecological environment,and people's livelihood.We discussed successful experience of new socialist countryside construction,and presented relevant construction models,namely different models of eastern developed regions and central and western less developed regions.Finally,we put forward countermeasures for new socialist countryside construction,including ensuring implementation of planning for new socialist countryside construction and improving livelihood of rural people and supply of public goods.

A Humanist God？ On the troubled Relationship Between Humanism and Religion Today

The relationship between humanism and religion has always been difficult, since the Renaissance. If we look at the Humanist Associations active today in the world, we find that the relationship has become almost a declared war. Religion appears to be the greatest enemy of humanism, i.e., of the humanity. Authentic humanism seems to be exclusively secular and atheistic： you can do good only if there is no God. In this contribution I look at some programmatic documents of Humanist Associations to understand the reasons for this contrast, in the background of secularization. The result is that some criticisms of religion -- its potential for violence and obscurantism -- are historically and theoretically justifiable but partial. Indeed, they show a poor and narrow vision of religion that leads to a narrow view of the human experience. A more complex vision of man requires a more complex vision of religion. A complex vision of man includes the most ＂irrational＂ and enigmatic aspects of our being, as love, death, pain, desire, imagination and even freedom and creativity. On this basis we can appropriately understand the historical and existential role of religion. Otherwise, if God is the one painted by humanists, God would not be good, let alone a good humanist.

Feminism in Theistic Humanism： The Question of Gender Discourse in African Philosophy

An inquiry into the ontology of critical gender consciousness in Africa Philosophy is long overdue. Hitherto discourses on gender problems lost focus because of the tendency to leave out the gaps in culture created by colonial experience, modernity＇s assaults and unAfricaness in ontology and essence. It is argued here that the fulcrum for a legitimate feminist doctrine is Theistic Humanism, the philosophy of African philosophy that exposes the epistemological and metaphysical basis of the rightful and ethical place of women in the society without injury, injustice and abuse on womanhood. Theistic Humanism as an ontology and cosmology abhors class struggle among husbands, wives, sons, daughters, etc.. At the Crossroads： A Case Study of Humanism in High School English Education in China

The concept of ＂equality＂ and the importance of ＂rational and critical thinking＂ are essential components of humanism. New English Curriculum for Chinese Primary Schools and Junior/Senior High Schools indicates English is not only a ＂Tool＂, but also carries information and features of ＂Humanism＂. This article conducted one year-long qualitative case study of three high school English teachers from different districts in Beijing. Data were collected through class observation, teachers＇ office observation, and interviews with teachers, students, and parents Data analysis followed qualitative procedures. Findings show that the three English teachers do not have strong awareness of humanism： None of them believes students and teachers are equal. Two teachers incorporate ＂rational and critical thinking＂ when they work as head teachers, but neither applies it when they serve as English teachers. Humanistic education is not prevalent but effective in teachers＇ development training. More relevant trainings are expected to benefit more teachers.

A Study on Student-Centered Language Pedagogy Based on Humanism

Although it is common for Chinese students to learn English for many years, they are still confronted with problems when it comes to communicating with people in English. Lack of working hard, necessary learning context, and interest does play a part; however, the problem really lies mostly in teaching process, so, to improve the quality of learning, teachers should bear more responsibilities and do more to bring humanism to English class and enhance student-centeredness. To achieve this goal, teachers should know more about students＇ learning styles so as to apply different approaches to students with different learning styles. What is more, priority should be given to analysis of learners＇ needs as well as preferences, on the basis of which a curriculum can be developed to meet the needs of a particular group of students. Finally, improvement of learner autonomy will lead to the shift of learning responsibilities from teacher to students, thus achieving student-centered learning ultimately.

The literary background of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel Never Let Me Go sets in a highly developed scientific and technological world where clones are created by human and“educated”in the Hailsham School for the sake of“donating”their vital organs to human three or four times before death.By depicting miserable fate of clones,the novel conveys deep concerns on the consequences of abusing technology in modern society.Ever since the burgeoning development of life science and artificial intelligence in the 1990s,the trend of posthumanism/transhumanism has emerged.Posthumanism promotes approaches to enhancing human body condition and organism,and extending human lifespan to augment human capacity and well-being by the advancement of technology.In literary field,contemplation on the relationship between human beings and technology has become a major concern of posthumanism.Putting Never Let Me Go in the context of posthumanism,this essay probes into the significant themes of the novel from three aspects:(1)clones’torments in the existential predicaments imposed by human;(2)human’s violation to the principles of bioethics causing the existential predicaments of alienated clones;(3)appealing to human to ruminate on the relationship between scientific technology and ethics.

English Education Should Focus on the Integration of Humanism

People in educational circles believe that humanism has an incomparable role and status in education and its ideology has a certain positive effect both in past education and in contemporary education.
