Chinese government has provided vigorous financial supports to artificial reef(AR)projects to repair marine ecosystem.Qiansandao AR,an important AR project of Fishery Resource Restoration Program in Shandong Province,...Chinese government has provided vigorous financial supports to artificial reef(AR)projects to repair marine ecosystem.Qiansandao AR,an important AR project of Fishery Resource Restoration Program in Shandong Province,was built during 2002 to 2007.It has enhanced the local fishery harvest and generated positive economic benefits.Fat greenling(Hexagrammos otakii)is a major commercial reef fish in Qiansandao with high economic values.Its distribution characteristics need to be further studied.In this research,we studied the potential influence of environmental variables and distance from ARs on catch per unit effort(CPUE)and body length of fat greenlings.The results showed that the average body length of fat greenlings distributed within 10 m from ARs was longer than that of fat greenlings distributed more than 600 m away from ARs.Body length also increased with the increased salinity,while it declined as temperature increased.The probability of the presence of fat greenling increased when temperature was below 20℃,then it slightly decreased.CPUE decreased as the distance increased.Our results elucidate the potential effects of environmental variables and distance from ARs on the distribution of fat greenling,which may also be helpful to the distribution research of other reef fish species.展开更多
The effects of cadmium(Cd)on metal accumulation,microelements contents,and antioxidant responses in Hexagram-mos otakii were studied.The fish were exposed to 0.2,2.5,or 10μg L−1 Cd for 12 or 24 days.Then,the concentr...The effects of cadmium(Cd)on metal accumulation,microelements contents,and antioxidant responses in Hexagram-mos otakii were studied.The fish were exposed to 0.2,2.5,or 10μg L−1 Cd for 12 or 24 days.Then,the concentration of Cd and mi-croelements(Ca,Fe,Zn,and Se)were determined in the liver and kidney.Moreover,the activities of antioxidant enzymes including superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT),and glutathione-S-transferase(GST),and the content of malondialdehyde(MDA)in the liver and kidney were also measured.A continuous accumulation of Cd was observed throughout the experimental period.Cd accumulation was higher in liver than that in the kidney,while Ca and Fe contents were lower in liver than those in the kidney.Cd exposure resulted in a decrease of Ca and Fe concentrations in the kidney,while there was no effect on the liver.Zn and Se remained unaffected with exposure to Cd.Cd exposure induced severe oxidative stress in H.otakii,as indicated by significant induction of the activities of SOD,CAT,and GST,and a simultaneous increase of MDA content.These data show that antioxidant enzymes and mi-croelements contents can be used as potential biomarkers to monitor environmental health in fish.展开更多
Integrated multi-tropic aquaculture(IMTA)systems have been used in China for many years and have achieved significant economic,social,and ecological benefits.However,there is still a lack of benthic bioremediation spe...Integrated multi-tropic aquaculture(IMTA)systems have been used in China for many years and have achieved significant economic,social,and ecological benefits.However,there is still a lack of benthic bioremediation species that can effectively utilize the aquaculture particulate organic waste in the system.Polychaete Perinereis aibuhitensis Grube is used as an environmental remediation species for large-scale aquaculture to reduce particulate organic waste,which is of great significance to environmental protection.To improve bio-elements utilization efficiency,P.aibuhitensis was applied for IMTA indoor fish(Hexagrammos otakii)farming.Results showed that in the system,production of 1 kg of the fish discharged 2141-2338 mg of carbon and 529-532 mg of nitrogen,while in the monoculture of the fish,the figures were 3033-3390 mg and 764-794 mg,or 24.84%-35.26%and 30.35%-33.32%less,respectively.This approach promoted IMTA technology that could utilize the particulate organic waste from intensive aquaculture and reduce the adverse environmental effects.展开更多
