This paper discusses communicative approaches in order to help the teacher effect an orderly transition from general English teaching to English for specific purposes. Language, considered as a tool of communication, no longer appears as a separate subject but as an aspect of other subjects. What is needed, therefore, is a different orientation to college English teaching and to find out an approach, which departs from what is generally taken. The approach aims at developing skills and ability to use language in the performance of different communicative acts. Gamified education has set the ground for the delineation of state-of-the-art literacy skills,enabling learners to develop their digital,cognitive,emotional and social competencies,through active experimentation,motivation and engagement,all while ensuring that pedagogical objectives are being effectuated,therefore capacitating the optimization of the learning process,as a whole.In this paper,we commence by assessing some of the most fundamental frameworks,models and theories evolved around the concept of gamification.We,additionally,showcase schemes through which it stimulates the actualization of active,multidimensional learning,by promoting the application of technological advancements,for the enhancement of learners’hard and soft skills,within time and cost effective frameworks.Ultimately,we,thoroughly,present a newly introduced,cross-platform,innovative educational learning system product,funded by the Hellenic Republic Ministry of Development and Investments,howlearn.Using gamification techniques,in 3D virtual environments,for the realization of STEAM related experiments which cover the vast majority of learners’subject material,while,simultaneously functioning as an authoring tool,whilst essentially accounting for accessibility,geographical and other socio-economic considerations,howlearn advocates youth-centered learning,providing the foundations towards the establishment of gamified,socially sustainable,multifaceted,inclusive educational learning systems. 展开更多

Service learning (also known as peer learning) has received increased attention in tertiary education. By linking learning with authentic volunteer work experience, service learning bridges the gap between theoretical study and practical reality. This practice can increase students' professional knowledge, educational development, self-esteem, and awareness of social responsibility. Service learning became a mandatory requirement for all students at National Taipei College of Business (NTCB; now National Taipei University of Business) in 2011, and this is the focus of this study, extending into the 2012 school year. This course-based program allows undergraduate language majors to put their language skills into practice by teaching peers, and also through other volunteer work. This program has greatly benefitted undergraduate students at the school. This study will examine course data, student reports, and interviews with student teachers. The researchers have documented the implementation of the peer-mentor program at NTCB, and the learning gains experienced among students and the professors who assisted in these processes. 展开更多

In this paper, the author reflects on four popular presumptions about ESL writing teaching he held at the outset of the course and the problems he encountered during the course, and critically points out fallacies and dangers rooted in the presumptions, arguing that without conscious understanding of them, inexperienced writing teachers could be trapped and end up in a failure of teaching. The author therefore highlights some new developments of ESL writing and their significance for the situation in China, and proposes an integrated approach for the green ESL teachers to create leaner-centered L2 writing :classes in their own classroom practice. 展开更多

As we enter the 21st century, acquisition of vocabulary has assumed a more important role, and as some would argue, it has assumed the central role in learning a second language. On one hand, students have a strong desire to improve their English level in order to make them more adaptable when they step into this competitive society after graduation. On the other hand, most students are facing a great difficulty in learning a large number of vocabularies though they do spend a lot of time and energy on it. Also, recent researches show that students don't like the classroom that is still teacher-centered and lecture-based. They want to be more involved in class and more responsible for their own studies. Hence, it is important to equip students with necessary strategies for dealing with vocabulary learning activities. In this paper, three strategies are recommended: extensive listening & reading and contextual guesswork, communicative activities and group-work and the use of dictionary. 展开更多

The study investigates the impact of personalized learning path design on students’self-learning abilities(SLA)within online education platforms.Employing a mixed-methods approach,the research examines the effectiveness of personalized learning through quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with a diverse sample of online learners.The findings indicate that personalized learning path design significantly enhances students’self-efficacy,engagement,and satisfaction,leading to improved SLA.The study’s conceptual model and empirical data support the hypothesis that personalization in learning environments fosters self-directed learning skills.The discussion highlights the implications for educational practice,emphasizing the need for online platforms to prioritize personalization and for educators to adapt their teaching methods to support diverse learner needs.The research also acknowledges limitations and suggests future directions,including longitudinal studies and expanded participant demographics.The study concludes that personalized learning path design is a promising strategy for online education platforms to empower learners and promote lifelong learning skills. 展开更多
