Literatures that contained the descriptors of ametropia in title or paper published before Nov. 10, 2010 in PubMed databases (www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Pubmed) were selected. As bibliometric indicators of ametropia, biomedical journals referring to ophthalmology by ISSN were calculated. The principal bibliometric indicators: Price's and Bradford's laws were applied on the increase or dispersion of scientific literature, the participation index of languages and the journals. By means of manual coding, literatures were classified according to documents study and statistical analysis. The literatures cited in ametropia, astigmatism, myopia and hypermetropia had accumulated to 26475, which consists of Review (n =1560), Randomized Controlled Trial (n =776), Practice Guideline (n =10), Meta-Analysis (n=23), Letter (n=1222), Editorial (n =328), Clinical Trial ( n =1726) and Others (n=20830); and Humans (n=23073), Animals (n=1434) and Others ( n=1968). 1136 literatures were included in PubMed Central, 22384 in MEDLINE and 2955 in others. The ametropia literatures rose every 5 years which of the ametropia-year cumulated amount of the literatures had three periods: before 1900, slowly increasing from 1901 to 1950, rapidly rising from 1951 to 2010 (increased approximate exponentiation exponent). Sixty kinds of languages were listed in PubMed databases, of which English was dominant for aborting to ametropia research documents before 2010 (77.32%, 20471/26475). The document language of top eight accounted for 95.58% (English, German, French, Japanese, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Chinese), and others for 4.42% (1171/26475). The SCI database includes 48 ophthalmologic journals and the impact factor of 39 journals is >= 1 on Thomson-Reuters in 2010. Of 48 ophthalmologic journals, there were 14785 documents (55.85%) of ametropia, astigmatism, myopia, and hypermetropia. Others were without exception. The bibliometric analysis results show that ametropia literature are increased progressively, approximate exponentiation Exponent during 1951-2010. In addition, ametropia research has become more popular since nearly half century.展开更多

In 2006, China issued its National Plans for Medium and Long-term Development of Science and Technology (2006-2020) (NPMLDST). Since 2006, there has been a rapid increase in the number of citations of China's interna- tional papers in the field of communications. In accordance with the goals listed in the NPMLDST, China needs to over- take several competitors by 2020 to be among the top five countries in the field of natural science field. By comparing two Essential Science Indicators (ESI) (i.e., the total number of citations and the number of citations per paper) for China and other countries, China's annual growth rate is found to exceed that of other influential countries in the field of sci- ence and technology, and exhibits evident growth-type characteristics. Besides, our study also shows that the short- age of high-quality academic papers in China is the main obstacle to improving the impact of China's academic publications.展开更多

Clear cases of fraud, falsification by some authors, and unqualified review of papers by reviewers and editors were presented in: Analytical Methods in Quality Control of Scientific Publications, (2012) American Journal of Analytical Chemistry, Vol. 3, No. 6, pp. 443-447 DOI:10.4236/ajac.2012.36058. The place of authors, reviewers, editors, and publisher was discussed in: Editorial: Analytical Methods in Quality Control of Scientific Publications Part II: The Authors’, Reviewers’, Editors’ Responsibility, and the Publishers’ Authority, (2013) International Journal of Analytical Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography, Vol. 1, No. 2, pp. 81-89 http://dx.doi.org/10.4236/ijamsc.2013.12010, Analytical Methods in Quality Control of Scientific Publications Part III: Publishers’ Ethics and Editors’ Com- plicity, (2014) International Journal of Analytical Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography, Vol. 2, No. 3, pp. 77-102. DOI: 10.4236/ijamsc.2014.23008 and in the book Historical Overview of Chromatography and Related Techniques in Analysis of Antimalarial Drug Primaquine (Editor, Ilia Brondz) Nova Science Publishers, Inc., (2011) ISSN 978-1-61761-944-1. Here, the corrupting influence of the pharmaceutical industry as a customer and employer of pseudoresearchers and corrupt editors and even to corrupt journal publishers for publication of fraudulent information and pseudoscientific data will be discussed by identifying the authors of pseudoscientific publications, the editors who gave the green light for the fraudulent publication, and the pharmaceutical companies involved. Documentation will be given to support the accusations of fabricated fraudulent “scientific” data, and the publication of such data without sufficient revision and sufficient background for publication of papers will be illustrated by discussing the content of papers: “Determination of Quinocide as Impurityin Primaquine Tablets by Capillary Zone Electrophoresis,” Abdalla A. The same is true for the reviewers and editors. The authority of a publisher strongly depends on the qualifications of the experts who review the manuscripts, and the recommendations they provide to the authors and editors. The honesty of the authors, reviewers, and editors is of the utmost importance. The author of the paper titled “Analytical Methods in Quality Control of Scientific Publications”, which was published in theAmerican Journal of Analytical Chemistry, 2012, 3, 443-447 (DOI: 10.4236/ajac.2012.36058) had criticized the paper published by Dongreet al., “Application of GC-EI-MS for the Identification and Investigation of Positional Isomer in Primaquine, an Antimalarial Drug, ”Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis, 2005, 39, 111-116 (DOI: 10.1016/j.jpba.2005.03.019), for presenting falsifications in this publication. Neither the reviewer northe Edi-tor-in-Chief Bezhan Chankvetadze of the Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysishas reacted to accusations of falsification. If a reviewer and editor are poorly qualified, unprincipled, or even corrupt, as was suggested by Bob Grant inThe Scientistmagazine (http://www.the-scientist.com/display/55679/#ixzz0mmsPoMIS), it is not good enough to consider simply that the publisher / journal has a high ranking and is indexed in PubMed or the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). In this editorial, we report a profound misunderstanding oralack of knowledge by the authors Shixue G., Zhuoyu L., and Wei W., in their paper published in ZhongguoYaoye China Pharmaceuticals, Vol. 14, No. 4, 2005, pp. 36-37 and a similar lack of professionalism by reviewers and editors. The influence and the role of internationally used pharmacopeias, such as The British Pharmacopoeia, European Pharmacopoeia, The United States Pharmacopeial Convention, and United States Pharmacopeia are shown as the main initiators and drivers of these misunderstandings.展开更多

A publishe...In the world of science, recognition of scientific performance is strongly correlated with publication visibility and interest generated among other researchers, which is evident by downloads and citations. A published paper’s number of downloads and citations are the best indices of its importance and are useful measures of the researchers’ performance. However, the published paper should be valuated and indexed independently, and the prestige of the journal in which it is published should not influence the value of the paper itself. By participating in and presenting at congresses and international meetings, scientists strongly increase the visibility of their results and recognition of their research;this also promotes their publications. Status in Research Gate (RG), the so-called RG Score, the Percentile, and the h-index give researchers feedback about their performance, or their place and prestige within the scientific community. RG has become an excellent tool for disseminating scientific results and connecting researchers worldwide. RG also allows researchers to present achievements other than publications (e.g., membership in recognized associations such as the American Chemist Society, a biography in Marquis Who’s Who in the World, awards received, and/or ongoing projects). This paper discusses questions regarding how the RG Score, Percentile, and h-index are calculated, whether these methods are correct, and alternative criteria. RG also lists papers with falsified results and the journals that publish them. Thus, it may be appropriate to reduce the indices for such journals, authors, and the institutions with which these authors are affiliated.展开更多

The influence and the role of internationally used pharmacopeias, such as The British Pharmacopoeia, European Pharmacopoeia, The United States Pharmacopeial Convention, and United States Pharmacopeia are shown as the main initiators and drivers of these misunderstandings.

文摘Aviation English and Corpus Linguistics have been put together and focused by some investigations especially those regarding Aeronautical English (the language used between pilots and air traffic controllers in international radi<span>otelephony communications). However, English used in aviation mainten</span>ance, specifically in written documents, has not been as much researched. This pa<span>per briefly explains the main concepts considering Aviation English and </span>pre</span><span style="font-family:"">- </span><span style="font-family:"">sents—based on previous researches—aircraft maintenance professionals’</span><span style="font-family:""> needs and regulatory agencies’ requirements related to language proficiency. Afterwards, it summarizes information about the most important technical publications for aircraft maintenance and describes the compilation of the Corpus of documents related to aviation maintenance (CoDoRAM). At the end, some ways the corpus can be used to teach vocabulary and grammar in English are pointed out. Although corpus compilation and analysis have been proved to be valuable for research and instructional purposes, most of publications en<span>compass English for academic purposes teaching context. For that reason,</span> this is a way to inspire new projects related to English used in aviation maintenance and the use of corpora in English for specific purposes classes.

文摘In the world of science, recognition of scientific performance is strongly correlated with publication visibility and interest generated among other researchers, which is evident by downloads and citations. Thus, it may be appropriate to reduce the indices for such journals, authors, and the institutions with which these authors are affiliated.
文摘Objective:To explore patterns and trends in nursing publications from the People's Republic of China. Methods:Using the Scopus online database, the author performed two searches in August 2019.The first search identified all items in the category of nursing affiliated to China, and the second search identified publications from China within one specific nursing journal. The author used a theoretical framework to provide a more in-depth understanding of patterns and trends within these items. Results:The number of articles categorized as nursing, with listed authorship in China, within the Scopus database was 17,506.The majority of published papers were categorized as research.Top-ranking Chinese universities, such as Peking University and Fudan University, scored high in terms of several publications listed within the database.Although categorized as nursing, the most common source titles that are mostly high-ranking journals did not feature the high-ranking nursing journals.Identified authors were generally not affiliated with nursing schools.Focused analysis of one of the top-ranking nursing journals, the Journal of Nursing Management, featured top Chinese universities and consistent nursing authorship.Nursing authors were found to have lower h-indices than international nursing professors. Conclusions:There has been a steady increase year by year in publications categorized as nursing from China since 2009,with the majority of published papers categorized as research. There is clear evidence of scholarly activity in nursing in China, both in the published literature and anecdotally in practice. However, nursing scholars need to do more to increase dissemination and ensure that nursing professors are leading and driving nursing research, although in a multidisciplinary context. There is also a need for increased exposure of Chinese nursing scholarship in high-ranking nursing journals.
