Through five years (1996-2000) experiment, the growth characteristics and resistance to insect and cold of the seven poplar varieties including P. po pularis, P. opera, P. pseudo-simonii, P. beijinensis, P. bolleana,...Through five years (1996-2000) experiment, the growth characteristics and resistance to insect and cold of the seven poplar varieties including P. po pularis, P. opera, P. pseudo-simonii, P. beijinensis, P. bolleana, P. ( eurameri cana and P. simonii, which were planted in loess hilly land in northwest Shanxi Province, were tested under different planting densities and site conditions. A randomized block design and three times repetition were adopted in the test. Bas ed on the test results in arid and cold area of the northwest Shanxi, the hybrid poplar trees taking Populus cathaysna as their female parent could be selected for afforestation, such as P. popularis and P. opera, and the growing space of s ingle plant should be larger than 20 m2. P. bolleana as an introduced tree speci es grows well in this area, but its growth is likely affected by ground water co ndition. On the site with relatively abundant soil water, P. bolleana usually su ffer from frost crack at its trunk base. As a result, P. bolleara is suited to p lanting in the site where is short of soil water. P. x euramericana is not suita ble for large-scale afforestation, especially in arid slopes and ridges of loess hilly land .展开更多
Femtosecond laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (fs-LIBS) is employed to analyze the element content in poplar tree leaves from four representative locations in Changchun City (Jingyue National Forest Park,JYP),Chang...Femtosecond laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (fs-LIBS) is employed to analyze the element content in poplar tree leaves from four representative locations in Changchun City (Jingyue National Forest Park,JYP),Changchun University of Science and Technology (CUST),Casting Factory (CF) and Forging Factory (FF) of First Automobile Works (FAW) under identical experimental conditions.Those elements of N,P,K,Ca,Fe,Ti,Mn and Na are identified in the poplar tree leaves from the recorded spectrogram and the elemental content in the leaves is further obtained by applying free calibration method to the spectrogram.Our results show that the elements Ca and Fe in the poplar tree leaves from the CF area have the highest concentration in the four locations,which is a factor of 2.05 and 1.66 respectively to those of JYP.This experiment demon-strates that fs-LIBS can be utilized to analyze element content in a sample and find new applications in the environmental detection.展开更多

The results showed that the activities of the two enzymes w...Activities of carboxylesterase and glutathione S transferase in Anoplophora glabripennis larvae feeding on eight different kinds of poplar trees were tested. The results showed that the activities of the two enzymes were significantly different when the larvae feeding on different poplar trees. The contents of fourteen secondary metabolites in eight kinds of poplar trees were also tested with the method of high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC). Stepwise regression analysis was carried out to test the relationship between the activities of the enzymes and secondary metabolites of poplar trees. The analysis results demonstrated that the contents of benzoic acid and catechin decreased together with the increase of carboxylesterase activity while the contents of catechol increased, but the content of p hydroxybenzoic acid decreased together with the increasing of glutathione S transferase activity while the content of phenol, coumaric acid, syringic, salicylic acid and salicin in poplar trees increased.展开更多

The net growth of trunk diameter at ground level of the treated trees, which were injected with KSH at 2×10 -2 , 1 7×10 -2 ,5 8×10 -3 mol\5L -1 , increased significanly and statistically in comparison with that of the control, and there was close positive correlation between the KSH concentration and the net growth of the trunk diameter. Growth of the tree height only shown in the concentration of 5 8×10 -3 mol\5L -1 , which was significantly and statistically increased in comparison with that of the control. The net growth of the tree height was inhibited in the groups at 1 1×10 -5 , 5 5×10 -5 , 2 8×10 -4 mol\5L -1 of NNA, whereas the net growth of trunk diameter at ground level of the treated trees treated with NNA shown significantly increase only at the lowest concentration of 1 1×l0 -5 mol\5L -l .The net growth of the tree height and the net growth of trunk diameter were promoted and inhibited respectively at the concentration of 2 9×10 -5 mol\5L -1 of GA. The results of the experiments with three years poplar trees indicted that injecting KSH of 5 8×10 -2 mol\5L -1 could significantly stimulate the net growth of trunk diameter at ground level of the treated trees during the testing period. The results of measuring the wood grown in the experiment period shown that there was no significant difference between the basic density of the treated wood and that of the control. It indicated that treatment of KSH could not only accelerate tree growth, increase significanfiy wood volume, but also there was no significant decrease in weight of dry materials.展开更多
