The dual-rotor structure serves as the primary source of vibration in aero-engines. Understanding itsdynamical model and analyzing dynamic characteristics, such as critical speed and unbalanced response, arecrucial for rotor system dynamics. Previous work introduced a coaxial dual-rotor-support scheme for aeroengines, and a physical model featuring a high-speed flexible inner rotor with a substantial length-to-diameter ratiowas designed. Then a finite element (FE) dynamic model based on the Timoshenko beam elements and rigid bodykinematics of the dual-rotor system is modeled, with the Newmark method and Newton–Raphson method used forthe numerical calculation to study the dynamic characteristics of the system. Three different simulation models, including beam-based FE (1D) model, solid-based FE (3D) model, and transfer matrix model, were designed tostudy the characteristics of mode and the critical speed characteristic of the dual-rotor system. The unbalancedresponse of the dual-rotor system was analyzed to study the influence of mass unbalance on the rotor system. Theeffect of different disk unbalance phases and different speed ratios on the dynamic characteristics of the dual-rotorsystem was investigated in detail. The experimental result shows that the beam-based FE model is effective andsuitable for studying the dual-rotor system. 展开更多

Earlier measurements in large synchronous generators indicate the existence of complex whirling motion, and also deviations of shape in both the rotor and the stator. These non-symmetric geometries produce an attraction force between the rotor and the stator, called unbalanced magnetic pull(UMP).The target of this paper is to analyse responses due to certain deviations of shape in the rotor and the stator. In particular, the perturbation on the rotor is considered to be of oval character, and the perturbations of the stator are considered triangular.By numerical and analytical methods it is concluded for which generator parameters harmful conditions, such as complicated whirling motion and high amplitudes, will occur.During maintenance of hydro power generators the shapes of the rotor and stator are frequently measured. The results from this paper can be used to evaluate such measurements and to explain the existence of complex whirling motion. 展开更多

The dynamic behavior of a cracked flexible rotor supported on three kinds ofjournal bearings is presented. Numerical experiments show that nonsynchronous responseswill happen due to the rotor crack, and the amplitudes of the nonsynchronous componentsbecome larger with the increase of crack. On the other hand, the fluid forces of journalbearings can suppress the nonsynchronous response. The (1/2) × or (3/2) × harmoniccomponent rarely appears for small crack near the rotating speed ratio Ω = 2Ωc or Ω =(2/3)Ωc. In the case of supercritical rotating speed, the additional 0× harmonic component is increased as the crack increases. The bearing parameters affect greatly the occur-rence of the nonsynchronous responses by means of exerting innuence on the critical spedand the stabi1ity of the system. 展开更多

The effect of oil film force nonlinearity on unbalance response of Jeffcot rotor elliptical bearing system is studied. Linear analysis is done by linearizing the bearing oil film dynamic forces and expressing them with stiffness and damping constants. Nonlinear dynamic simulation is done by taking the nonlinearity of bearing oil film dynamic force into full consideration, with the latter being expressed by a special database which is generated beforehand, and based on non stationary Reynolds equation and Reynolds boundary condition of film rupture. The linear and nonlinear unbalance responses of a Jeffcot rotor supported on a pair of elliptical bearings is studied. The resulting dynamic characteristics and rotor and journal whirling orbits are compared. While good consistancy between nonlinear and linear predictions is found under very small unbalance, significant or even drastic differences are found whenever the unbalance is not small, indicating the necessity of including the nonlinearity of oil film dynamic forces, especially when response to large unbalance is to be predicted. 展开更多

The rotating parts looseness is one of the common failures in rotating machinery. The current researches of looseness fault mainly focus on non-rotating components. However, the looseness fault of disc-shaft system, which is the main work part in the rotor system,is almost ignored. Here,a dynamic model of the rotor system with loose disc caused by the insufficient interference force is proposed based on the contact model of disc-shaft system with the microscopic surface topography, the vibration characteristics of the system are analyzed and discussed by the number simulation, and verified by the experiment. The results show that the speed of the shaft, the contact stiffness, the clearance between the disc and shaft, the damping of the disc and the rotational damping have an influence on the rotation state of the disc. When the rotation speed of the disc and the shaft are same, the collision frequency is mainly composed of one frequency multiplication component and very weak high frequency multiplication components. When the rotation speed of the disc and the shaft is close, the vibration of the disc occurs a beat vibration phenomenon in the horizontal direction.Simultaneously,a periodical similar beat vibration phenomenon also occurs in the waveform of the disc-shaft displacement difference. The collision frequency is mainly composed of a low frequency and a weak high frequency component. When the rotation speed of the disc and the shaft has great difference, the collision frequency is mainly composed of one frequency multiplication,a few weak high frequency multiplication components and a few low frequency multiplication component. With the reduction of the relative speed of the disc, the trajectory of the disc changes from circle-shape to inner eight-shape,and then to circle-shape.In the inner eight-shape,the inner ring first gradually becomes smaller and then gradually becomes larger, and the outer ring is still getting smaller. The obtained research results in this paper has important theoretical value for the diagnosis of the rotor system with the loose disc. 展开更多

A reduced-order dynamic model for an unbalanced rotor system is developed, taking the coupling between torsional and lateral vibrations into account. It is assumed that a shaft is regarded as a continuous viscoelastic shaft with unbalanced and small deformation properties. The equations of motion for the torsional and lateral vibrations are derived using Lagrange's approach with the frequency-dependent shape function. The rotor torsional vibration is coupled with the lateral vibrations by unbalance elements in a way of excitations. Simulation and experiment results show clearly that the torsional vibration has strong impact on the rotor lateral vibrations, and it causes subharmonic and superharmonic excitations through unbalance elements, which leads to the superharmonic resonances in the lateral vibrations. This model with low-order and high accuracy is suitable for rotor dynamic analysis in real time simulation as well as for active vibration control syntheses. 展开更多

Stability is a key problem that means whether a high rate rotor-active magnetic bearings system works reliably or not. Aiming at a bearings system described with nonlinear equations, this paper built a linear model according to the system behavior. Considering realization of the control system and behavior of a high rate rotor system (magnetic force is far smaller than input force produced by mass eccentricity) this paper proposes a design method of variable parameters PD control algorithm that can be used universally. The control system was simplified and a mass of adjusting work of control parameters was reduced. Analysis and simulation indicated that the bearings system could get a wider stable region of harmonic motion, and proved that the algorithm is robust and advanced. The control system can be realized because the winding electric currents are positive. The method is convenient for operation and can easily be used for engineering practice. 展开更多

Isothermal hot compression tests of as-cast high-Cr ultra-super-critical(USC) rotor steel with columnar grains perpendicular to the compression direction were carried out in the temperature range from 950 to 1250°C at strain rates ranging from 0.001 to 1 s^(-1). The softening mechanism was dynamic recovery(DRV) at 950°C and the strain rate of 1 s^(-1), whereas it was dynamic recrystallization(DRX) under the other conditions. A modified constitutive equation based on the Arrhenius model with strain compensation reasonably predicted the flow stress under various deformation conditions, and the activation energy was calculated to be 643.92 kJ ×mol^(-1). The critical stresses of dynamic recrystallization under different conditions were determined from the work-hardening rate(θ)–flow stress(σ) and-θ/σ–σ curves. The optimum processing parameters via analysis of the processing map and the softening mechanism were determined to be a deformation temperature range from 1100 to 1200°C and a strain-rate range from 0.001 to 0.08 s^(-1), with a power dissipation efficiency η greater than 31%. 展开更多

Today, digital signal processing based on new microprocessor technology allows for successful machine protection and is acceptably cost-effective. Furthermore, by means of vibration-diagnostics monitoring of machines assisted by analytical methods it is possible to monitor and quantify dynamic parameters of a machine. By means of the analysis of dynamic behavior of rotor, it is possible to diagnose and solve the defects relating to rotor and other parts of machine. Recently, vibrations analysis and monitoring have become the most widespread method of machine diagnostics. Detection, identification and elimination of problems related to machine work can be simplified by modeling some dynamics solutions. The paper presents a mathematical model of elastic rotor with concentrated weight designed for the purpose of detecting defects with the help of vibrations measured by sensors based in bearings. Experimental results from test tables of the world's leading company, Bentley Nevada Co. USA, were used as the basis for development of this model. Accordingly, mathematical model for most of the cases was based on radial oscillation of rotor while torsion oscillations were used as the basis in some cases. Torsion vibrations cannot be detected without special sensors even at their highest magnitudes. Reliability of this model and accuracy of vibrodiagnostic analysis has been experimentally confirmed when applied on machines in operation. 展开更多

In this article, a model of a rotor with an asymmetric disk is presented in order to represent Campbell’s diagrams and instability maps as a function of the rotations of the support which can significantly change the dynamic behavior of the rotor. Critical rotating speeds can also lead to unacceptable levels of vibration. Indeed, the critical speeds are a function of the dynamic rigidity of the rotating systems and the presence of the gyroscopic forces creates a dependence between the rotating speed of rotation and the natural frequencies to such structures (the CAMPBELL diagrams): this implies that the correct determination of the critical speeds is one of the essential elements when sizing such dynamic systems. 展开更多

The dynamic behavior of rotors is highly influenced by bearing characteristics. In previous works, the authors have shown that it may be beneficial to adapt the bearing behavior to the shaft behavior. Several adaptive and active components will be developed in this paper in order to control the shaft dynamical amplitude. Different models of hydrodynamic bearings behavior are described. The Reynolds equation resolution may be done by numerical or analytical solutions. A physical analysis of the equation of thin films will identify the most sensitive parameters. The shaft flexibility is taking into account by a modal approach. The fluid-structure coupling process is a simulation, step by step, of the rotor behavior. At each step, the nonlinear fluid force is numerically calculated to obtain the unbalanced shaft response. The results, presented in this paper, concern the dynamic response of unbalanced shaft mounted in adaptive or active bearings: bearings with variable clearance, variable viscosity or variable housing speed. It is shown that the fluid bearing parameters must be adapted to the rotor speed (in particular near or far a critical speed). Then, the paper presents a new kind of active bearing. It works with a mechanical control of the housing position. Several parameters are tested and compared. The robustness of the dynamic control parameters is presented. In conclusion, the bearing adaptation could be very useful to control the shaft dynamic. This limits the effect of the critical speed, in particular by diminishing the shaft amplitude and the dynamic forces transmitted to the housing. 展开更多

The technique of non stationary oil film force database for hydrodynamic bearing is introduced and its potential applications in nonlinear rotor dynamics are demonstrated. Through simulations of the locus of the shaft center aided by the database technique, nonlinear stability analysis can be performed and the natural frequency can be obtained as well. The easiness of 'assembling' the individual bush forces from the database to form the bearing force, makes it very convenient to evaluate the stability of various types of journal bearings. Examples are demonstrated to show how the database technique makes it possible to get technically abundant simulation results at the expense of very short calculation time. 展开更多

A comprehensive method based on system identification theory for helicopter flight dynamics modeling with rotor degrees of freedom is developed. A fully parameterized rotor flapping equation for identification purpose is derived without using any theoretical model, so the confidence of the identified model is increased, and then the 6 degrees of freedom rigid body model is extended to 9 degrees of freedom high-order model. Bode sensitivity function is derived to increase the accuracy of frequency spectra calculation which influences the accuracy of model parameter identification. Then a frequency domain identification algorithm is established. Acceleration technique is developed furthermore to increase calculation efficiency, and the total identification time is reduced by more than 50% using this technique. A comprehensive two-step method is established for helicopter high-order flight dynamics model identification which increases the numerical stability of model identification compared with single step algorithm. Application of the developed method to identify the flight dynamics model of BO 105 helicopter based on flight test data is implemented. A comparative study between the high-order model and rigid body model is performed at last. The results show that the developed method can be used for helicopter high-order flight dynamics model identification with high accuracy as well as efficiency, and the advantage of identified high-order model is very obvious compared with low-order model. 展开更多

Based on vibration diagnosis and treatment for more than 10 units, some typical vibration faults were summarized, such as the vibration fluctuation of the high pressure (HP) rotor, abnormal vibration increases of the No.3 bearing pedestal and large vibration of the exciter rotor during its critical speed range. The vibration characteristics and the causes of faults and countermeasures were analyzed. Three applications for further illustration were given.
