To study effect of 12-week DSNS supplementation on glycemic markers, anthropometry, lipid profile, SCFAs, and gut microbiome in individuals with diabetes. Markers studied were glycemic [Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG), Post Prandial Glucose (PPG), HbA1c, Incremental Area under curve (iAUC), Mean Amplitude of Glycemic Excursions (MAGE), Time in/above Range (TIR/TAR)], anthropometry [weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), waist circumference (WC)], lipid profile, diet and gut health [plasma short chain fatty acids (SCFAs)]. N = 210 adults were randomized to receive either DSNS with standard care (DSNS + SC;n = 105) or standard care alone (SC alone;n = 105). After 12 weeks, significant differences between DSNS + SC versus SC alone was observed in FBG [−3 ± 6 vs 14 ± 6 mg/dl;p = 0.03], PPG [−35 ± 9 vs −3 ± 9 mg/dl;p = 0.01], weight [−0.6 ± 0.1 vs 0.2 ± 0.1 kg;p = 0.0001], BMI [−0.3 ± 0.1 vs 0.1 ± 0.1 kg/m2;p = 0.0001] and WC [−0.3 ± 0.2 vs 0.2 ± 0.2 cm;p = 0.01]. HbA1C and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) were significantly reduced in DSNS + SC [−0.2 ± 0.9;p = 0.04 and −5 mg/dl;p = 0.03] respectively with no change in control. Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) reported significant differences between DSNS + SC versus SC alone for mean glucose [−12 ± 65 vs 28 ± 93 mg/dl;p < 0.01], TAR 180 [−9 ± 42 vs 7 ± 45 mg/dl;p = 0.04], TAR 250 [−3 ± 27 vs 9 ± 38 mg/dl;p = 0.05], iAUC [−192 (1.1) vs −48 (1.1) mg/dl;p = 0.03]. MAGE was significantly reduced for both DSNS + SC (−19 ± 67;p < 0.001) and SC alone (−8 ± 70;p = 0.04), with reduction being more pronounced for DSNS + SC. DSNS + SC reported a decrease in carbohydrate energy % [−9.4 (−11.3, −7.6) %;p < 0.0001] and amount [−47.4 (−67.1, −27.7) g;p < 0.0001], increased dietary fiber [9.5 (7.2, 11.8) g;p < 0.0001] and protein energy % [0.9 (0.5, 1.3) %;p < 0.0001] versus SC alone. DSNS + SC reported significant increases versus SC alone in total (0.3 ng/ml;p = 0.03) and individual plasma SCFAs. The consumption of DSNS significantly improves the glycemic, anthropometric, dietary, and gut health markers in diabetes.展开更多

However, data on efficacy of DSNSs in prediabetics is limited. This was a two-armed, open-labelled, randomized controlled six-week study on 199 prediabetics [30 - 65 years;Glycosylated Hemoglobin (HbA1c) 5.7% - 6.4% and/or Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) 100-125 mg/dl]. Two parallel phases were conducted: Acute Blood Glucose Response (ABGR) and Intervention phase. Prediabetic participants were randomized into test (n = 100) and control (n = 99). The primary objective was to assess the ABGR of DSNS versus an isocaloric snack, measured by incremental Area under the Curve (iAUC). Test and control received 60 g of DSNS and 56 g of isocaloric snack (cornflakes) respectively, both in 250 ml double-toned milk on visit days 1, 15, 29 and 43. Postprandial Blood Glucose (PPG) was estimated at 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 minutes. During the 4 weeks intervention phase, the test group received DSNS with lifestyle counselling (DSNS + LC) and was compared with the control receiving lifestyle counselling alone (LC alone). Impact was studied on FBG, HbA1C, anthropometry, body composition, blood pressure, nutrient intake, and physical activity. The impact of DSNS was also studied using CGM between two 14-day phases: CGM1 baseline (days 1 - 14) and CGM2 endline (days 28 - 42). DSNS showed significantly lower PPG versus isocaloric snack at 30 (p 12, and chromium were reported by DSNS + LC versus LC alone. No other significant changes were reported between groups. It may be concluded that DSNS may be considered as a snack for prediabetic or hyperglycemic individuals requiring nutritional support for improved glycemic control.展开更多

Current treatments often involve synthetic drugs with significant side effects and potential for dependency. This study investigates the effects of a natural supplement combination of Ginkgo Biloba and Acai Extract on cognitive symptoms in a 77-year-old male with PD. The participant underwent a three-month supplementation regimen, with cognitive function assessed using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) test before and after the intervention. The results indicated an improvement in cognitive scores, suggesting that the combination of Ginkgo Biloba and Acai Extract may offer a promising alternative or adjunct to conventional PD treatments. This study highlights the potential of natural supplements in managing PD symptoms and calls for further research with larger sample sizes to confirm these findings. Human data was performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki by the Roxbury District IRB Board (IRB Number: IRB00011767).展开更多

The results showed that after the water supplement, from the perspective of landscape cell index, fractal dimension of major ecosystems in Baiyangdian decreased to some extent;from the perspective of landscape diversity index, diversity index of the study region also decreased, which demonstrated that ecosystem diversity in this region reduced, land cover grew to simplification;and the decreasing evenness degree of the study region also showed the uneven development of its ecosystems. That is to say, water supplement has brought favorable ecological changes to the eco-environment of Baiyangdian, which has further optimized the health condition of ecosystems in this region.展开更多

[Method] By difference method with different amount of alternative feeds (20% -50%), two4 x4 Latin- square-designed trials were taken on eight castrated male pigs [ Yorkshire x Landrace x Neijiang pig, initial body-weight: (46 ±2) kg ] to deter- mine the apparent digestible energy (ADE) of the eight kinds of plant protein supplement commonly used in China, that is, corn gluten meal (sol.), soybean meal ( sol. ), fababean, pea, rapeseed meal ( sol. ), sesame meal ( sol. ), rapeseed meal ( exp. ) and cotton seed meal (sol.). [Resultl (1) Fiber was the most important factor to estimate the ADE of plant protein supplement in pigs, and ADF was the best one. (2) The most effective equations were as below: ( 1 ) OE (kJ/kg DM) = 14 741.86 - 185.01ADF+54.01SCHO+22.45CP ( R =0.988,RSD= 67.9,P〈0.01 ) ; (2) DE (kJ/kg DM) =22 223.26 -209.58ADF+26.79SCHO-1.09GE ( Ff =0.989,RSD=66.9, P〈0.01 ) . [Conclusion] The accurate, practical and specific regression equations were established for DE prediction of plant protein supplement in pig.展开更多

Unfortunately, many claims cited by supplements are unsupported and inadequately regulated. Most concerning, how ever, are the associated harmful side effects, often unrecognized by consumers. Garcinia cambogia extract and Garcinia cambogia containing products are some of the most popular dietary supplements currently marketed for weight loss. Here, we report the first known case of fulminant hepatic failure associated with this dietary supplement. One active ingredient in this supplement is hydroxycitric acid, an active ingredient also found in weight-loss supplements banned by the Food and Drug Administration in 2009 for hepatotoxicity. Heightened awareness of the dangers of dietary supplements such as Garcinia cambogia is imperative to prevent hepatoxicity and potential fulminant hepatic failure in additional patients.展开更多

The adverse consequences of rheumatoid cachexia include reduced strength, physical function and, as a consequence, quality of life.Whilst regular high-intensity exercise training has been shown to increase muscle mass and restore function in RA patients, this form of therapy has very low uptake amongst RA patients. Thus, acceptable alternatives are required. The aim of this review is to consider the potential efficacy of creatine as an anabolic and ergonomic therapy for RA patients. To date, only one study has supplemented RA patients with creatine, and the findings from this investigation were inconclusive. However, trials in populations with similar losses of muscle mass and function as RA, including older adults andthose with other muscle wasting conditions, indicate that creatine is an efficacious way of improving muscle mass, strength and physical function, and may offer an easy, safe and cheap means of treating rheumatoid cachexia and its consequences.展开更多

[ Method] The experiment was conducted in late spring and early summer before grazing. Thirty Chinese SimmentaI-Taihang taxa bulls at the age of 9-10 months weighing 150-170 kg were divided into the control group, experimental group 1 and experimental group 2, 10 in each group, Each cattle in the experimental group 1 fed on the basal diet supplemented 1.0 kg cornmeal every day. Each cattle in the experimental group 2 fed on the basal diet supplemented 1.0 kg cornmeal and 0.25 kg NPN supplement every day. Those in the control group were fed on the basal di- et. The experiment was performed for 100 d. [Result] The average daily gain of the experimental group I was 217 g larger than that of the control group, while the average daily gain of the experimental group 2 was 429 g larger than that of the control group. The differences in the average daily gain were significant between the three groups. [ Conclusion ] The growth performance of cattle grazed in northern slopes was obviously improved by supplementing a small amount of concentrate in feed. The improvement was more remarkable if a small amount of NPN supplement was also added in feed.展开更多

文摘Background This study investigated the effects of inorganic and organic minerals on physiological responses, oxidative stress reduction, and rumen microbiota in Holstein bull calves(123.81±9.76 kg;5 months old)during short-term heat stress(HS)and recovery periods.Eight Holstein calves were randomly assigned to four treatment groups:no mineral supplementation(Con),inorganic minerals(IM),organic minerals(OM),and high-concentration organic minerals(HOM)and two thermal environments(HS and recovery)using 4×2 factorial arrangement in a crossover design of four periods of 35 d.Calves were maintained in a temperature-controlled barn. The experimental period consisted of 14 d of HS,14 d of recovery condititon, and a 7-d washing period. Results Body temperature and respiration rate were higher in HS than in the recovery conditions(P<0.05).Selenium concentration in serum was high in the HOM-supplemented calves in both HS(90.38μg/dL)and recovery periods(102.00μg/dL)(P<0.05).During the HS period, the serum cortisol was 20.26 ng/mL in the HOM group, which was 5.60 ng/mL lower than in the control group(P<0.05).The total antioxidant status was the highest in the OM group(2.71 mmol Trolox equivalent/L),followed by the HOM group during HS,whereas it was highest in the HOM group(2.58 mmol Trolox equivalent/L)during the recovery period(P<0.05).Plasma malondialdehyde and HSP70 levels were decreased by HOM supplementation during the HS and recovery periods, whereas SOD and GPX levels were not significantly affected(P>0.05).The principal coordinate analysis represented that the overall rumen microbiota was not influenced by mineral supplementation;however,temperature-induced microbial structure shifts were indicated(PERMANOVA:P<0.05).At the phylum level,Firmicutes and Actinobacteria decreased, whereas Fibrobacteres,Spirochaetes, and Tenericutes increased(P<0.05),under HS conditions. The genus Treponema increased under HS conditions, while Christensenella was higher in recovery conditions(P<0.05).Conclusion HOM supplementation during HS reduced cortisol concentrations and increased total antioxidant status in Holstein bull calves, suggesting that high organic mineral supplementation may alleviate the adverse effects of HS.
文摘Malaria presents a significant global public health challenge, with severe malarial anaemia being a primary manifestation of the disease. The understanding of anaemia caused by malaria remains incomplete, making the treatment more complex.Iron is a crucial micronutrient essential for haemoglobin synthesis, oxygen delivery, and other vital metabolic functions in the body.It is indispensable for the growth of human beings,as well as bacteria, protozoa, and viruses in vitro and in vivo.Iron deficiency is among the most common nutritional deficiencies and can have detrimental effects during developmental stages of life.Malaria-induced iron deficiency occurs due to the hemolysis of erythrocytes and the suppression of erythropoiesis, leading to anaemia.Meeting iron requirements is particularly critical during pivotal life stages such as pregnancy, infancy, and childhood.Dietary intake alone may not suffice to meet adequate iron requirements, thus highlighting the vital role of iron supplementation. While iron supplementation can alleviate iron deficiency,it can exacerbate malaria infection by providing additional iron for the parasites. However,in the context of pregnancy and childhood, iron supplementation combined with malaria prevention and treatment has been shown to be beneficial in improving birth outcomes and ensuring proper growth and development, respectively. This review aims to identify the role and impact of iron supplementation in malaria infection during the life stages of pregnancy and childhood.

文摘The resource of Fenneropenaeus chinensis has declined sharply due to excessive fishing intensity, ecological changes and diseases. In order to supplement the fishing yield and restore resources of F.chinensis, the relevant authorities have carried out the activities of stock enhancement and releasing. It can increase biomass and recover resources. However, compared with increasing biomass, there were still few reports on its effect on the recovery of resources.Resource recovery is a process related to whether the released individuals can form a reproductive population.Up to now, there has been a lack of evidence whether the released F.chinensis can complete the entire life history, and form reproduction population. In this study, gravid female shrimp after spawning migration were captured from coastal waters of Haiyang,Qingdao, and Yellow Sea.After identifying parentage relationships using simple sequence repeat(SSR)and mtDNA haplotype,it was finally confirmed that there were eight released individuals in the recapture samples. It was confirmed for the first time that at least part of the released F.chinensis can complete overwintering and reproductive migration, and maintain the migration habits as their wild counterparts. Therefore,we infered that the released shrimp can reproduce under natural conditions, these F.chinensis can form reproductive populations theoretically if without human intervention. These results indicated that enhancenment and release activities have a positive effect on resource recovery.

文摘Alzheimer’s disease(AD),the major form of neurodegenerative diseases that can severely impede normal cognitive function, makes it one of the most common fatal diseases. There are currently over 50 million AD patients worldwide. The neuropathology of AD is perplexing and there is a scarcity of disease-modifying treatments.Currently, early diagnosis of AD has been made possible with the discovery of biological markers associated with pathology, providing strong support for the improvement of the disease status. The search for inhibitors of AD markers from dietary supplements(DSs)has become a major hot topic.Especially with the widespread use of DSs,DSs containing polyphenols, alkaloids, terpenes, polysaccharides and other bioactive components can prevent AD by reducing Aβdeposition, inhibiting tau protein hyperphosphorylation, reconstructing synaptic dysfunction, weakening cholinesterase activity, regulating mitochondrial oxidative stress, neuronal inflammation and apoptosis. This review summarizes the anti-AD effects of the main DSs and their bioactive constituents,as well as the potential molecular mechanisms covers from 2017 to 2023.Additionally,we discussed the opportunities and challenges faced by DSs in the process of AD prevention and treatment, aiming to further provide new perspectives for functional food development.
文摘With increasing incidence of diabetes, use of diabetes specific nutrition supplements (DSNS) is common for better management of the disease. To study effect of 12-week DSNS supplementation on glycemic markers, anthropometry, lipid profile, SCFAs, and gut microbiome in individuals with diabetes. Markers studied were glycemic [Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG), Post Prandial Glucose (PPG), HbA1c, Incremental Area under curve (iAUC), Mean Amplitude of Glycemic Excursions (MAGE), Time in/above Range (TIR/TAR)], anthropometry [weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), waist circumference (WC)], lipid profile, diet and gut health [plasma short chain fatty acids (SCFAs)]. N = 210 adults were randomized to receive either DSNS with standard care (DSNS + SC;n = 105) or standard care alone (SC alone;n = 105). After 12 weeks, significant differences between DSNS + SC versus SC alone was observed in FBG [−3 ± 6 vs 14 ± 6 mg/dl;p = 0.03], PPG [−35 ± 9 vs −3 ± 9 mg/dl;p = 0.01], weight [−0.6 ± 0.1 vs 0.2 ± 0.1 kg;p = 0.0001], BMI [−0.3 ± 0.1 vs 0.1 ± 0.1 kg/m2;p = 0.0001] and WC [−0.3 ± 0.2 vs 0.2 ± 0.2 cm;p = 0.01]. HbA1C and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) were significantly reduced in DSNS + SC [−0.2 ± 0.9;p = 0.04 and −5 mg/dl;p = 0.03] respectively with no change in control. Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) reported significant differences between DSNS + SC versus SC alone for mean glucose [−12 ± 65 vs 28 ± 93 mg/dl;p < 0.01], TAR 180 [−9 ± 42 vs 7 ± 45 mg/dl;p = 0.04], TAR 250 [−3 ± 27 vs 9 ± 38 mg/dl;p = 0.05], iAUC [−192 (1.1) vs −48 (1.1) mg/dl;p = 0.03]. MAGE was significantly reduced for both DSNS + SC (−19 ± 67;p < 0.001) and SC alone (−8 ± 70;p = 0.04), with reduction being more pronounced for DSNS + SC. DSNS + SC reported a decrease in carbohydrate energy % [−9.4 (−11.3, −7.6) %;p < 0.0001] and amount [−47.4 (−67.1, −27.7) g;p < 0.0001], increased dietary fiber [9.5 (7.2, 11.8) g;p < 0.0001] and protein energy % [0.9 (0.5, 1.3) %;p < 0.0001] versus SC alone. DSNS + SC reported significant increases versus SC alone in total (0.3 ng/ml;p = 0.03) and individual plasma SCFAs. The consumption of DSNS significantly improves the glycemic, anthropometric, dietary, and gut health markers in diabetes.
文摘It is well known that Diabetes Specific Nutritional Supplements (DSNSs) are linked to improved glycemic control in individuals with diabetes. It may be concluded that DSNS may be considered as a snack for prediabetic or hyperglycemic individuals requiring nutritional support for improved glycemic control.

文摘Goji berry(Lycium barbarum L.)is substantially dependent on nitrogen fertilizer application, which can signifi-cantly enhance fruit yield and Goji berry industrial development in Ningxia,China. This study aimed to analyze the functions of differential nitrogen application rates including low(N1),medium(N2),and high(N3)levels in soil microbial community structure(bacterial and fungal)at 2 diverse soil depths(0-20,20-40 cm)through high-throughput sequencing technology by targeting 16S RNA gene and ITS1&ITS2 regions. All the observed physicochemical parameters exhibited significant improvement(p<0.05)with increased levels of nitrogen and the highest values for most parameters were observed at N2.However,pH decreased(p<0.05)gradually.The alpha and beta diversity analyses for bacterial and fungal communities’metagenome displayed more similarities than differences among all groups. The top bacterial and fungal phyla and genera suggested no obvious(p>0.05)differences among three group treatments(N1,N2,and N3).Furthermore,the functional enrichment analysis demonstrated significant(p<0.05)enrichment of quorum sensing, cysteine and methionine metabolism, and transcriptional machinery for bacterial communities, while various saprotrophic functional roles for fungal communities.Conclusively, moderately reducing the use of N-supplemented fertilizers is conducive to increasing soil nitrogen utilization rate, which can contribute to sustainable agriculture practices through improved soil quality, and microbial community structure and functions.
文摘Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms, including cognitive impairment. Human data was performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki by the Roxbury District IRB Board (IRB Number: IRB00011767).

文摘Mushroom cultivation is an implementation of the industrial biotechnology in the valorization of various lignocellulosic materials. In the present study, common lignocellulosic residues(wheat straw-WS and barley and oats straw-BOS)were supplemented with‘novel’compounds(sunflower and corn oil, yeast extract and CaSO4⋅2H2O)and their impact on the biochemical properties(composition of intra-cellular polysaccharides-IPSs,proteins,lipids,glucans,tocopherol content, carbohydrates and fatty acids composition),total phenolic compounds(TPCs)and the antioxidant activity of Pleurotus ostreatus and Pleurotus eryngii mushrooms, cultivated in‘bag-logs’,was evaluated. Results revealed that supplements enhanced IPSs in carposomes cultivated on BOS substrates and the most positive were corn oil 2%,w/w and CaSO4⋅2H2O for P.ostreatus and P.eryngii,respectively(50.86 and 57.65%,w/w).In all treatments, there was a variety in the carbohydrate’s composition and a great production of glucans(40.67-62.15%,w/w),especially of the bioactiveβ-glucans(32.10-61.93%,w/w)in the stipes of both species.Significant protein content was detected in P.ostreatus and P.eryngii carposomes grown on substrates with yeast extract(28.99 and 30.09%,w/w;WS and 29.49 and 24.94%,w/w;BOS).Although mushrooms presented a low lipid content in general, high values of fat content were observed for both species when cultivated on BOS substrate supplemented with sunflower and corn oil(4.54-6.58%,w/w).The nutritional value of mushrooms was comparable between the two flushes. The greatest amount of TPCs were detected in supplemented WS(22.31-35.30 mg gallic acid equivalents/g d.w.)and BOS(21.03-41.74 mg gallic acid equivalents/g d.w.)with CaSO4⋅2H2O,in all parts of mushrooms and a strong antioxidant activity and tocopherols production,in all treatments.A higher quantity of lipids, antioxidant activity and reducing power was present in the pilei rather than the stipes, while the latter were richer in IPSs,regardless of the supplement’s presence. Therefore, the outlined supplemented substrates could be used to produce mushrooms with high nutritional and medicinal values.
文摘Objectives Insight regarding dietary creatine(Cr)supplementation strategies to acutely increase and maintain muscle total creatine(TCr)content is missing. Methods Healthy, young, men ingested 4×5 g Cr/day(d)for 5d,followed by 5 g/d for 28 d(Cr group,n=8).To achieve insulin mediated muscle Cr transport, another group(n=16)ingested 4×5 g Cr plus 95 g dextrose/d for 5d(CrCHO),and thereafter two sub-groups ingested 5 g of Cr(CrCHO1,n=8)or 5 g Cr plus 95 g dextrose/d for 28 d(CrCHO2,n=8).A fourth group ingested 4×5g of Cr plus 14 g protein,7 g phenylalanine,7 g leucine and 57 g dextrose/d for 5 d,and once/d thereafter for 28 d(CrPAC,n=8).Muscle biopsies were obtained at 0,and after 5 and 33 d.Results After 5 d,muscle TCr increased in Cr(p<0.001),CrCHO(p<0.001),and CrPAC(p<0.05)groups,and was numerically greatest in CrCHO;achieving a content reported to be an average maximum(150 mmol/kg).After 33 d,TCr also increased to~150 mmol/kg in the Cr group(p<0.05),remained unchanged from 5 d in CrCHO2,and tended to decline in CrCHO1.Muscle TCr remained unchanged from 5 d in CrPAC after 33 d,being less than the Cr group(p<0.05).Muscle Cr transporter mRNA expression changed modestly, but the increase in muscle TCr after 5 d was inversely associated with fold-change in mRNA expression(r=0.502,p<0.05).Conclusions A maximum increase in muscle TCr is achieved after 5 d Cr ingestion alongside 95 g dextrose, and continued consumption of Cr with dextrose will maintain this maximum.Ingestion of Cr alone will achieve a high muscle TCr content too,but takes longer.

文摘By using TM remote sensing images of Baiyangdian Wetland in 1989,1999,2003 and 2004,taking the water area between Anxin County and Cangzhou where most of Baiyangdian Wetland water body lies for landscape classification, changes in landscape pattern of Baiyangdian before and after the water supplement were analyzed with landscape indexes calculated by Fragstats3.3. That is to say, water supplement has brought favorable ecological changes to the eco-environment of Baiyangdian, which has further optimized the health condition of ecosystems in this region.
文摘[Objective] The aim of the study was to establish the effective and accurate formulas for estimating the digestible energy (DE) values of plant protein supplement in pig. [Conclusion] The accurate, practical and specific regression equations were established for DE prediction of plant protein supplement in pig.
文摘Commercial dietary supplements are marketed as a panacea for the morbidly obese seeking sustainable weight-loss. Heightened awareness of the dangers of dietary supplements such as Garcinia cambogia is imperative to prevent hepatoxicity and potential fulminant hepatic failure in additional patients.
文摘In the paper, the effects of nutrition lick brick and salt brick as supple-ment feed on the performance of Tan sheep were studied. 36 fattening Tan sheep with the average weight of about 23 kg were chosen, they were randomly divided into 3 groups according to the weight, and each group had 12 sheep. Control group was fed with normal daily ration, experimental group 1 was fed with normal daily ration+nutrition lick brick, experimental group 2 was fed with normal daily ration+salt brick, the experimental period was 60 d. The results showed that 1) compared with CK, daily gain of group 1 improved 17.09%(P〈0.01), feed conversion ratio reduced 11.69%(P〈0.05), and average gross profit per sheep improved 51.65 yuan; daily gain of group 2 improved 7.03%(P〈0.05), feed conversion ratio reduced 4.06%(P〉0.05), and average gross profit per sheep improved 19.78 yuan; 2) compared with group 2, daily gain of group 1 improved 9.40%(P〈0.05), feed conversion ratio re-duced 7.96%(P〈0.05), and average gross profit per sheep improved 31.87 yuan;these indicated that nutrition lick brick and salt brick as supplement feed for Tan sheep both can improve the production performance of Tan sheep, and the supple-mentary feeding effect of nutrition lick brick was better.

文摘[Objective] The aim of this study was to investigate the content changes and their correlations of the photosynthetic pigment, phenols, including total phenols, total flavonoids and anthocyanins, and total saponins of the one-year-old P.notoginseng plants under supplemental UV-B stress in fields.[Method] The one-year-old plants were irradiated by UV-B in field for 1 min per day,and the plants under the UV-B lamp were regarded as a circle center, achieving an annular leaf-sampling.The photosynthetic pigment, phenols and total saponins of the leaves were determined spectrophotometrically.[Result] With the increase of sampling radius, the supplemental UV-B intensity decreased significantly, the contents of chlorophyll (Chl) a,Chl b,Chl (a+b),carotenoid (Car) and total photosynthetic pigment (Chl+Car) of the leaves increased extremely significantly, the Chl a/b and total phenol content (TPC) decreased extremely significantly, but the Chl (a+b)/Car changes were not significant. The contents of total flavonoids, anthocyanins and saponins all increased due to the increasing of UV-B,displaying dose effects. The UV-B intensity was positively correlated with the Chl a/b,and negatively with the Chl a,Chl b,Chl (a+ b),Car and (Chl+Car) contents; and the two of TPC,total flavonoid content (TFC),total anthocyanin content (TAC) and total saponin content (TSC) were positively correlated, all reaching extremely significant level. The UV-B intensity was positively and significantly correlated with the total flavonoid content (TFC),negatively and significantly with the Chl (a+b)/Car,and positively and insignificantly with the TPC,TAC and TSC.[Conclusion] For one-year-old plants of P.notoginseng,UV-B can decrease the contents of the Chl a,Chl b,Chl (a+b),Car and (Chl+Car) and increase the Chl a/b and TPC,and, furthermore, induce the increases of the TFC,TAC and TSC in a dose-dependent manner.However,UV-B can hardly change the Chl (a+b)/Car.The supplemental UV-B of well-suited dose might be one of the effective measures to improve the TSC of P.notoginseng.
文摘Creatine is one of the most popular forms of protein supplements and is known to improve performance in healthy athletic populations via enhanced muscle mass and adenosine triphosphate energy regeneration.Clinical use of creatine may similarly benefit patients with rheumatoid arthritis(RA), an inflammatory condition characterised by generalised muscle loss termed"rheumatoid cachexia". However, trials in populations with similar losses of muscle mass and function as RA, including older adults andthose with other muscle wasting conditions, indicate that creatine is an efficacious way of improving muscle mass, strength and physical function, and may offer an easy, safe and cheap means of treating rheumatoid cachexia and its consequences.

文摘[Objective] The experiment was conducted to investigate the growth performance of graze cattle fed on non-protein nitrogen (NPN) supplement. The improvement was more remarkable if a small amount of NPN supplement was also added in feed.
文摘BACKGROUND Drug-induced liver injury(DILI)and herbal/dietary supplements(HDS)related liver injury present unique diagnostic challenges.Collaboration between the clinician and the pathologist is required for an accurate diagnosis and management.AIM To report our experience on the clinical-pathological findings of hepatic injury caused by drugs/HDS.METHODS A retrospective review of clinically proven cases of DILI/HDS who presented to our institution from January 1,2013 to December 31,2017 was performed.Slides were reviewed for histopathological patterns of injury and correlated with the causative agent.Out of 600 patients presenting with unexplained rise in liver enzymes undergoing biopsy,107 were suspected to have DILI/HDS.Of these,53 had a directly linked exposure to drug/herbal supplements.Fifteen patients were excluded for concurrent known liver disease.Thirty-eight patients with clinically proven DILI/HDS were finally included.RESULTS Thirty-eight cases of DILI/HDS with a male:female of 1:1.5 and mean age of 51±3 years were identified.DILI was identified in 84.2%cases while HDS injury in 15.8%.Acute hepatitis(42.1%)was the most common pattern of injury while granulomatous hepatitis(2.6%)was the least common. We found one case of acute-cholestasis due to rivaroxaban and two cases of cholestatic-hepatitis due to rizatriptan and trimethobenzamide-hydrochloride that,to the best of our knowledge, have not been previously reported. One case of steatohepatitis due to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and three unusual cases of cholestatic-hepatitis with bile duct injury and steatosis due to dronedarone,C4-Extreme and hydroxycut, were also seen.Of our cohort,81.6%of the patients fared well with discontinuation of drug and 18.4%underwent transplant;of which 42.9%were deceased.CONCLUSION We describe the clinical findings, histopathological patterns of injury and clinical outcomes caused by drugs. In particular,we report a few previously unreported/rarely observed clinical and histopathological patterns of hepatic injury.
