The thermal and stress analyses of SiCn/Al brake disk during emergency braking at a speed of 300 km/h considering airflow cooling were investigated using finite element (FE) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods. All three modes of heat transfer (conduction, convection and radiation) were analyzed along with the design features of the brake assembly and their interfaces. The results suggested that the higher convection coefficients achieved with airflow cooling will not only reduce the maximum temperature in the braking but also reduce the thermal gradients, since heat will be removed faster from hotter parts of the disk. Airflow cooling should be effective to reduce the risk of hot spot formation and disc thermal distortion. The highest temperature after emergency braking was 461 °C and 359 °C without and with considering airflow cooling, respectively. The equivalent stress could reach 269 MPa and 164 MPa without and with considering airflow cooling, respectively. However, the maximum surface stress may exceed the material yield strength during an emergency braking, which may cause a plastic damage accumulation in a brake disk without cooling. The simulation results are consistent with the experimental results well.展开更多

The experimental result reveals that the characteristic of two body abrasive wear and oxidation wear mechanisms are present for SiCn/2618 Al composite under higher load and sliding speed. SiC ceramic continuous network as the reinforcement can avoid composite from the third body wear that usually occurs in traditional particle reinforced composite. The mechanically mixed layer (MML) controls greatly the wear rate and friction coefficient of the composites. The composites tested at higher sliding speed exhibit higher value of friction coefficient and fluctuation, which is associated with the intermittent formation and removal of the MML. The wear and stress—strain behaviors of SiCn/Fe–40Cr against SiCn/Al 2168 at 30-105 m/s under 1.0-2.5 MPa were analyzed by finite element method with the software Solidwork2012 Simulation, respectively. The wear and stress–strain behavior of the composite predicted by the FEM correlated well with the experimental results.展开更多

In service environments, CMCs exhibit complex damage mechanisms and failure modes, which are affected by constituent materials, meso-architecture and inhere defects. In this paper, the in-plane tensile mechanical behavior of a plain-woven SiCf/SiC composite at room and elevated temperatures was investigated, and the factors affecting the tensile strength of the material were discussed in depth. The results show that the tensile modulus and strength of SiCf/SiC composites at high temperature are lower, but the fracture strain increases and the toughness of the composites is enhanced;the stitching holes significantly weaken the tensile strength of the material, resulting in the material is easy to break at the cross-section with stitching holes.展开更多

Three-layer Si-Mo coating prepared by slurry painting and SiC/Si-Mo multilayer coating prepared by chemical vapor deposition(CVD) alternated with slurry painting were applied on C/C-SiC composites, respectively. The oxidation of three samples at 1 500 ℃ was compared. The results show that the C/C-SiC substrate is distorted quickly. Three-layer Si-Mo coating is out of service soon due to the formation of many bubbles on surface. The mass loss of coated sample is 0.76% after 1 h oxidation. The sample with SiC/Si-Mo multilayer coating gains mass even after 105 h oxidation. SiC/Si-Mo multilayer coating can provide longtime protection for C/C-SiC composites and has excellent thermal shock resistance. This is attributed to the combination of dense SiC layer and porous Si-Mo layer. Dense SiC layer plays the dual role of physical and chemical barrier, and resists the oxidation of porous Si-Mo layer. Porous Si-Mo layer improves the thermal shock resistance of the coating.展开更多

The interfacial reaction products MgO are beneficial to interfacial bonding between SiCw and the Mg matrix. resulting in an improvement of the mechanical properties of the composite.

文摘Porous carbon/carbon preforms were infiltrated with melted silicon to form C/C-SiC composites. Porous Si-Mo layer improves the thermal shock resistance of the coating.
文摘SiC p/6061Al alloy composite was welded by using TIG and pulsed-TIG welding (P-TIG) without addition of filler metal, or with addition of Al-Si or Al-Mg filler metal. The microstructure and properties of the weld were investigated with XRD, OM, TEM, and MTS-810 testing system was used to observe the effect of different welding procedure and filler metals on the microstructure and properties of the weld. Thermodynamic of SiC-Al reaction was used to analyze the tendency of the reaction between SiC particle and Al matrix during welding. The results showed that the P-TIG tends to produce less plate-like Al 4C 3 precipitates than TIG; when welding with P-TIG, addition of Al-Si filler metal can not only prevent from formation of Al 4C 3, but also decrease hot crack sensitivity of weld; the tensile strength of joint of adding Al-Si filler metal is higher than that of adding Al-Mg filler metal. The SiC p/6061Al composite can be successfully welded by P-TIG with addition of Al-Si filler metal.
文摘The SiC_w/Al composite prepared by squeeze casting has a combination of superior room temperature specific strength and modulus together with excellent thermal properties. The extrusion can make an improvement on the strength and ductility of the composite from 582 MPa as squeeze casted up to 639 MPa,and on the transformation from isotropic to the anisotropic structure. This seems to be explained by the orientation of whiskers and the densification of dislocations in matrix.TEM observation indicates that the stacking fault is the usual planar defect on the SiC_w surface. composite;;SiC whisker;;Al alloy;;microstructure
文摘The fatigue of SiC_p/6061Al composite containing 15 v.-% SiC particles has been compared with 6061Al alloy.Dislocation structure and microprocess of fatigue crack initiation and propagation in the composite have been investigated by using SEM and TEM.The results in- dicate that the fatigue strength at 10~7 cycles of the composite is 196 MPa,i.e.about 25% higher than matrix alloy. The voids and microcracks initiated at and near the interface be- tween SiC_p and matrix, where has a higher density of dislocations, will propagate and link up to form the fatigue crack. It is an important evidence to note that the dislocation channels where screw dislocation can travel are formed near interface and corner region of SiC_o in the composite subjected to fatigue stress(σ_(max)=274 MPa N=2.4×10~5 cycles),demonstrating the relationship between fatigue crack initiation and dislocation movement in the SiC particles reinforced 6061 Al alloy composite.

文摘Compression tests on semi-solid SiCp/AZ61 magnesium matrix composites were carried out using Thermecmastor-Z dynamic material testing machine.Influences of strain-rate,strain,temperature and volume fraction of SiC particles on flow stress were analyzed. The results show that the flow stress of semi-solid SiCp/AZ61 composites is sensitive to temperature and strain rate. The lower the temperature and the larger the strain rate, the higher the flow stress.Meanwhile the flow stress increases with the increase of the volume fraction of SiC particles. This study helps establish the constitutive model of magnesium matrix composites and offers theoretic and experimental references for its thixoforming.
