The synergistic reaction of photocatalysis and advanced oxidation is a valid strategy for the degradation of harmful antibiotic wastewater.Herein,carbon dots(CDs)modified MIL-101(Fe)octahedrons to form CDs/MIL-101(Fe)composite photocatalyst was synthesized for visible light-driven photocatalytic/persulfate(PS)-activated tetracycline(TC)degradation.The electron spin resonance(ESR)spectra,scavenging experiment and electrochemical analysis were carried out to reveal that the high visible light-driven photocatalytic degradation activity of TC over CDs/MIL-101(Fe)photocatalysts is not only ascribed to the production of free active radicals in the CDs/MIL-101(Fe)/PS system(·OH,·SO_(4-),^(1)O_(2),h^(+)and·O_(2)^(-))but also attributed to the consumption of electrons caused by the PS,which can suppress the recombination of photo-generated carriers as well as strong light scattering and electron trapping effects of CDs.Finally,the possible degradation pathways were proposed by analyzing intermediates via liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry technique.This research presents a rational design conception to construct a CDs/PS-based photocatalysis/advanced oxidation technology with high-efficient degradation activity for the remediation of organic antibiotic pollutant wastewater and for the improvement of carrier transport kinetics of photocatalysts. 展开更多

Carbon-doped copper ferrite(C–CuFe_(2)O_(4))was synthesized by a simple two-step hydrothermal method,which showed enhanced tetracycline hydrochloride(TCH)removal efficiency as compared to the pure CuFe_(2)O_(4) in Fenton-like reaction.A removal efficiency of 94%was achieved with 0.2 g L^(-1) catalyst and 20 mmol L^(-1) H_(2)O_(2) within 90 min.We demonstrated that 5%C–CuFe_(2)O_(4) catalyst in the presence of H_(2)O_(2) was significantly efficient for TCH degradation under the near-neutral pH(5–9)without buffer.Multiple techniques,including SEM,TEM,XRD,FTIR,Raman,XPS M€ossbauer and so on,were conducted to investigate the structures,morphologies and electronic properties of as-prepared samples.The introduction of carbon can effectively accelerate electron transfer by cooperating with Cu and Fe to activate H_(2)O_(2) to generate·OH and·O_(2)^(-).Particularly,theoretical calculations display that the p,p,d orbital hybridization of C,O,Cu and Fe can form C–O–Cu and C–O–Fe bonds,and the electrons on carbon can transfer to metal Cu and Fe along the C–O–Fe and C–O–Cu channels,thus forming electron-rich reactive centers around Fe and Cu.This work provides lightful reference for the modification of spinel ferrites in Fenton-like application. 展开更多

In this work,a novel composite material based on β-cyclodextrin-immobilized sodium alginate aerogel(β-CD/NaAlg) was developed utilizing cross-linker of epichlorohydrin and applied as an adsorbent to remove tetracycline antibiotics from reclaimed wastewater.A series of characterizations were utilized to confirm the successful synthesis of the adsorbent and this β-CD/NaAlg presented a three-dimensional network at the nanoscale or microscale.Under optimal conditions(pH=4,t=8 h,β-CD:NaAlg=9,adsorbent dosage = 1.5 g·L-1),the maximum removal rate of β-CD/NaAlg to tetracycline was 70%.The adsorption behavior of tetracycline on β-CD/NaAlg conformed to the Freundlich isotherm model(R2=0.9977) and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model(R^(2)=0.9993).Moreover,the adsorbent still removed 55.3% of tetracycline after five cycles.Specially,the adsorbent was integrated with ultrafiltration to adsorb tetracycline antibiotics from simulated reclaimed wastewater,and the removal rate of tetracycline reached 78.9% within 2 h.The existence of Cr(Ⅵ) had a negligible impact on tetracycline removal,while the presence of humic acid exhibited a promoting effect.The possible adsorption mechanisms were also elucidated through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and density functional theory analysis.In summary,β-CD/NaAlg represents an environmentally friendly,efficient,and sustainable adsorbent for removing tetracycline antibiotics from reclaimed water. 展开更多

With the growing concern about the water environment,the advanced oxidation process of persulfate activation assisted by photocatalysis has attracted considerable attention to decompose dissolved organic micropollutants.In this work,to overcome the drawbacks of the photocatalytic activity reduction caused by the photo-corrosion of non-stoichiometric BiO_(2–x),a novel material with amorphous FeOOH in situ grown on layered BiO_(2–x) to form a core-shell structure similar to popcorn chicken-like morphology was produced in two simple and environmentally beneficial steps.Through a series of degradation activity tests of hybrid materials under different conditions,the as-prepared materials exhibited remarkable degradation activity and stability toward tetracycline in the FeOOH@BiO_(2–x)/Vis/PS system due to the synergism of photocatalysis and persulfate activation.The results of XRD,SEM,TEM,XPS,FTIR,and BET show that the loading of FeOOH increases the specific surface area and active sites appreciably;the heterogeneous structure formed by FeOOH and BiO_(2–x) is more favorable to the effective separation of photogenerated carriers.The optimal degradation conditions were at a catalyst addition of 0.7 g·L^(–1),a persulfate concentration of 1.0 g·L^(–1),and an initial pH of 4.5,at which the degradation rate could reach 94.7%after 90 min.The influence of typical inorganic anions on degradation was also examined.ESR studies and radical quenching experiments revealed that·OH,SO_(4)^(-)·,and·O_(2)^(-)were the principal active species generated during the degradation of tetracycline.The results of the 1,10-phenanthroline approach proved that the effect of dissolved iron ions on the tetracycline degradation was limited,and the interfacial reaction that occurs on the active sites on the material's surface was a critical factor.This work provides a novel method for producing efficient broad-spectrum Bismuth-based composite photocatalysts and photocatalytic-activated persulfate synergistic degradation of tetracycline. 展开更多

Besides the therapeutic uses, tetracyclines are often incorporated into livestock feed as growth promoters. A considerable amount of antibiotics is released unaltered through milk from dairy animals. The presence of antibiotic residues in milk and their subsequent consumption can lead to potential health impacts, including cancer, hypersensitivity reactions, and the development of antibiotic resistance. Thus, it is important to monitor residual levels of tetracyclines in milk. The purpose of this study is to develop a quick and simple method for simultaneously extracting five tetracycline analogues from bovine milk. Specifically, five tetracycline analogues: Chlortetracycline (CTC), demeclocycline (DEM), doxycycline (DC), minocycline (MC), and tetracycline (TC) were simultaneously extracted from milk using trifluoroacetic acid. Subsequently, the extracted analogues were separated by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) and detected at 355 nm using UV/Vis. Calibration curves for all five tetracycline analogues show excellent linearity (r2 value > 0.99). Percent recovery for MC, TC, DEM, CTC, and DC were: 31.88%, 96.91%, 151.29, 99.20%, and 85.58% respectively. The developed extraction method has good precision (RSD < 9.9% for 4 of the 5 analogues). The developed method with minimal sample preparation and pretreatment has the potential to serve as an initial screening test. 展开更多

The present study was undertaken to investigate remediation of tetracylines (tetracycline (TC), oxytetracycline (OTC) and chlortetracycline (CTC)) from aqueous solution using vetiver grass, water lettuce, and sunflower and root exudates of water lettuce, sunflower and from soil by tomato, Indian mustard and carrot plant. The data of this study denote that vetiver grass, water lettuce, sunflower remedy tetracyclines from water. The remediation % after 63 days of treatment was 87-61 for TC;88-68 for OTC and 87-68 for CTC. The remediation of tetracyclines at lower concentration of antibiotics in presence of root exudates of water lettuce and sunflower was more than 99% and remediation was faster than water lettuce or sunflower. The remediation of tetracyclines from aqueous solution may be due to oxidation of-OH group(s) of tetracycline through a process that is thought to involve reactive oxygen intermediates and/or role of peroxidase enzyme. The plant crops viz., tomato, Indian mustard and carrot can remedy 41%-72% of amended tetracyclines. The maximum bioaccumulation of TC and CTC was in Indian mustard and OTC was maximally bioaccumulated in tomato. 展开更多

In sulfuric acid medium, the CL emission is generated upon continuous oxidation of Ru(bipy)_3~2+ by cerium (IV ). The emission intensity is greatly enhanced when tetracycline and oxytetracycline are introduced into the reaction system after acid degradation. Under the optimum conditions, the calibration curves are linear over the range of 8. 0 X 10^-8^-4. 0 X 10^-6 mol/L for tetracycline and of 2. 0 X 10^-7~4. 0 X 10^-5 mol/L for oxytetracycline, with the detection limits are 4. 2 X 10^-8 mol/L for tetracycline and 1. 5 X 10^-7 mol/L for oxytetracycline, respectively. Tetracyclines (TCs) are used for the treatment or prevention of American and European foul broad in bee colonies which are caused especially by two species of bacteria--Paenibacillus larvae and Melissococcus pluton. The present study aimed to determine the tetracycline residues in different types of local and imported honey. The reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet detection (UV) was used. Tetracycline and oxytetracycline were extracted from honey with 0.01 M sodium succinate buffer. Of the examined samples, 31.25% and 12.50% had these oxytetracycline and tetracycline residues, respectively. It was observed that all the samples studied have been reported residues of tetracycline and oxytetracycline more than international standards of maximum residue limit (MRLs). 展开更多

Objective To establish a rapid and precise continuous flow-injection chemiluminescence method for the determination of tetracycline and oxytetracycline. Methods In NaOH solution, tetracycline and oxytetracycline can sensitize obviously the chemiluminesence (CL) intensity of the reaction of luminol with KIO_4, the sensitized CL intensity is proportional to the concentration of tetracycline and oxytetracycline. So, a new flow-injection CL method has been developed. The optimum chemical conditions for the CL reaction were investigated. Results Under the optimized conditions (KIO_ 4 concentration: 1.0×10 -5 mol/L; NaOH concentration: 0.1 mol/L; luminol concentration: 1.0×10 -4mol/L), tetracycline and oxytetracycline were determined. The linear range of the working curves was 1.0×10 -7 - 1.0×10 -4g/mL, the detection limits was 1.0×10 -8g/mL and 1.1×10 -8g/mL, and the relative standard deviation was 2.6% (C_S=1.0×10 -6g/mL; n=11) and 2.0% (C_S=1.0×10 -6g/mL; n=11) respectively. Conclusion The method is simple, rapid, and sensitive, and it has been successfully applied to the the determination of tetracycline and oxytetracycline tablets, the mean recoveries being 99.7% and 98.8% respectively. 展开更多

For realizing gene special expression in plant anther at given time, we constructed a new system that combined tetracycline- inducible elements with TA29 promoter, a tapetum-specific promoter of tobacco. The system was tested in transient GUS assay system by electroporation (gene gun) transformation of tobacco ( Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. Winsconsin 38) anther. In the absence of tetracycline as the inducer, no GUS activity was detected. However, strong GUS expression was observed in tapetum. tissue upon tetracycline induction, and little GUS activity was found outside the tapetum. Our results suggested that gene expression can be restricted to a specific tissue at the given time under the control of this new system, and this system would be a very useful tool for both basic plant biology research and biotechnological applications. 展开更多

An electrochemically reduced graphene oxide sample, ERGO_0.8v, was prepared by electrochemical reduction of graphene oxide (GO) at -0.8 V, which shows unique electrocatalytic activity toward tetracycline (TTC) detection compared to the ERGO-12v (GO applied to a negative potential of-1.2 V), GO, chemically reduced GO (CRGO)-modified glassy carbon electrode (GC) and bare GC electrodes. The redox peaks of TTC on an ERGO-0.8v-modifled glass carbon electrode (GC/ERGO-0.8v) were within 0-0.5 V in a pH 3.0 buffer solution with the oxidation peak current correlating well with TTC concentration over a wide range from 0.1 to 160 mg/L Physical characterizations with Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), Raman, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies (XPS) demonstrated that the oxygen-containing functional groups on GO diminished after the electrochemical reduction at -0.8 V, yet still existed in large amounts, and the defect density changed as new sp2 domains were formed. These changes demonstrated that this adjustment in the number of oxygen-containing groups might be the main factor affecting the electrocatalytic behavior of ERGO. Additionally, the defect density and sp2 domains also exert a profound influence on this behavior. A possible mechanism for the TTC redox reaction at the GC/ERGO-0.8v electrode is also presented. This work suggests that the electrochemical reduction is an effective method to establish new catalytic activities of GO by setting appropriate parameters. 展开更多

AIM:To access the efficacy of combination with amoxicillin and tetracycline for eradication of Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori),thus providing clinical practice guidelines.METHODS:Pub Med,EMBASE,Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials,Science Citation Index,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wanfang,and Chinese Biomedical Literature databases and abstract books of major European,American,and Asian gastroenterological meetings were searched.All clinical trials that examined the efficacy of H.pylori eradication therapies and included both tetracycline and amoxicillin in one study arm were selected for this systematic review and meta-analysis.Statistical analysis was performed with Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Software(Version 2).Subgroup,meta-regression,and sensitivity analyses were also carried out.RESULTS:Thirty-three studies met the inclusion criteria.The pooled odds ratio(OR)was 0.90(95%CI:0.42-1.78)for quadruple therapy with amoxicillin and tetracycline vs other quadruple regimens,and total eradication rates were 78.1%by intention-to-treat(ITT)and 84.5%by per-protocol(PP)analyses in the experimental groups.The pooled eradication rates of 14-d quadruple regimens with a combination of amoxicillin and tetracycline were 82.3%by ITT and89.0%by PP,and those of 10-d regimens were 84.6%by ITT and 93.7%by PP.The OR by ITT were 1.21(95%CI:0.64-2.28)for triple regimens with amoxicillin and tetracycline vs other regimens and 1.81(95%CI:1.37-2.41)for sequential treatment with amoxicillin and tetracycline vs other regimens,respectively.CONCLUSION:The effectiveness of regimens employing amoxicillin and tetracycline for H.pylori eradication may be not inferior to other regimens,but further study should be necessary. 展开更多

An efficient method is provided to detect simultaneously some important veterinary drugs from different classes in highly complex animal tissue matrix. This method using matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with diode array detection (DAD) is developed to effectively determine two fiuoroquinolones (enoxacin and lomefioxacin), two sulfonamides (sulfanilamide and sulfamethoxazole) and one tetracycline (tetracycline) simultaneously in porcine tissues. In the process, MSPD methodology was used to treat samples, washed by n-hexane to remove lipid, eluted the analytes with acetonitrile–dichloromethane (1:1, v/v). Solvent acetonitrile and solvent acetic acid (0.1%) were combined in a gradient. HPLC–DAD analysis of the tissue samples was performed within 15 min at a fiow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The results showed that a recovery at 0.1, 0.5 and 1.0 mg/g fortification levels ranged from 80.6% to 99.2% with satisfactory relative standard deviations (RSDs) (below 6.1%, nfi3) and the limits of quantitation (LOQ) ranged from 7 mg/kg to 34 mg/kg in porcine tissues. TiO2-seashell composites prepared via a sol-gel method were used to generate carbonate radicals(·CO3–) under solar light irradiation. ·CO3–, a selective radical, was employed to degrade the target tetracycline hydrochloride contaminant. A series of characterizations was carried out to study the structure and composition of the synthesized TiO2-seashell composite. This material exhibits excellent solar light-driven photochemical activity in the decomposition of tetracycline hydrochloride. The possible pathway and mechanism for the photodegradation process were proposed on the basis of high-resolution electrospray ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry experiments. Finally, we investigated the reusability of the TiO2-seashell composite. This study is expected to provide a new facile pathway for the application of ·CO3– radicals to degrade special organic pollutants in water. 展开更多

Objective:To investigate the detection and sequencing of plasmid encoded tetracycline resistance genes(tet A and tet B) from food-borne and standard strains of Bacillus cereus(B. cereus).Methods:PCR was carried out to detect the tetracycline resistance genes(tet A and tet B) in food-borne B.cereus strains and the amplified products were sequenced.Results:The phenotypic resistance against tetracycline was observed in 39 of the 118 food-borne isolates and two reference strains(MTCC 430 and MTCC 1307) of B.cereus.Among the phenotypically resistant isolates,tet A was detected in 36 food-borne isolates and two reference strains(MTCC 430 and MTCC 1307).whereas,tel B was detected in 12 food-bome isolates and MTCC 1307 strain. Conclusions:A close association was therefore found between phenotypic resistance against tetracycline and presence of tetracycline resistance genes.The tet A and tet B gene fragments were amplified,purified and sequenced.The gene sequences of the isolates studied herein were found similar to tetA and tetB gene sequences of other bacteria available in NCBI.The occurrence of tetA and tetB genes in B.cereus indicate the horizontal transfer of antibiotic resistance determinants from other bacteria into B.cereus.The transfer of these resistant determinants to other potentially pathogenic bacteria may be a matter of great concern. 展开更多

However, the fast recombination of photogenerated electron- hole pairs leads to unsatisfactory photocatalytic efficiencies. In this study, Mg/O co-decorated amorphous carbon nitride (labeled as MgO-CN) with a unique electronic structure was designed and prepared via a combined experimental and theoretical approach. The results showed that the MgO-CN exhibited an increased light absorption ability and promoted charge separation efficiency. The Mg and O co-decoration created a unique structure that could generate localized electrons around O atoms and enhance the reactant activation capacities via the C→O←Mg route. This could dramatically promote the O2 molecule activation on the catalyst surface to generate reactive species (?O2 –/?OH). The optimized MgO-CN exhibited a high photocatalytic activity for the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride in water, which was five times higher than that of pristine g-C3N4. The present work could provide a new strategy for modifying the electronic structure of g-C3N4 and enhancing its performance for environmental applications. 展开更多

We tested the utility of chemical marking techniques in the juvenile black rockfish Sebastes schlegelii. Juveniles (30-40 mm total length) were immersed in a range of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) solutions at concentrations ranging from 300 to 500 mg/L, and alizarin complexone (ALC) solutions at concentrations ranging from 200 to 400 mg/L in filtered sea water (salinity of 30) for 24 h, respectively. Otoliths (sagittae, asteriscus), scales, fin rays (dorsal, pectoral, ventral, anal, and caudal fin rays), and fin spines (dorsal, ventral, and anal fin spines) were sampled and used to detect fluorescent marks after a 60-day growth experiment. With the exception of 300 mg/L TC, acceptable marks were produced in the otoliths and fin spines by all concentrations of TC and ALC. In particular, we observed clearly visible marks in the sagittae, asteriscus, and fin spines under normal light at concentrations of200~00 mg/L, 250-400 mg/L, and 250-400 mg/L ALC, respectively. Scales and fin rays had acceptable marks at much higher concentrations (_〉350 mg/L TC, 〉250 mg/L ALC for scales and _〉350 mg/L TC, 〉300 mg/L ALC for fin rays). The best mark quality (i.e., acceptable marks were observed in all sampled structures after immersion marking) were obtained following immersion in TC at between 350-500 rag/L, and ALC between 300-400 mg/L. In addition, there was no significant difference in survival and growth of TC and ALC marked fish compared to their controls up to 60 days post-marking (P〉0.05). 展开更多

A novel and effective BiOCl0.9I0.1/x%β-Bi2O3 composite catalyst was synthesized through a precipitation method. The structure, morphology, and optical properties of the samples were certified by X-ray diffraction, UV-Vis diffuse reflectance, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic characterizations. Photocatalytic experiments demonstrated that the synthesized BiOCl0.9I0.1/x%β-Bi2O3 composite catalyst exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance toward the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride(TCH) under simulated sunlight. Furthermore, the TCH degradation rate of BiOCl0.9I0.1/15%β-Bi2O3 increased by 27.6% and 61.4% compared with those of the pure BiOCl0.9I0.1 and pure β-Bi2O3, respectively. Due to the multiple vacancies and valence states possessed by BiOCl0.9I0.1/x%β-Bi2O3, namely Bi5+, Bi(3-x)+, Bi5+–O, Bi3+–O, I- and I3-, the charge separation in photocatalysis reactions can be effectively promoted. The Mott-Schottky measurements indicate that the conduction band(CB) level of BiOCl0.9I0.1/15%β-Bi2O3 becomes more negative relative to that of BiOCl0.9I0.1, guaranteeing an advantageous effect on the redox ability of the photocatalyst. This study provides a new bright spot for the construction of high-performance photocatalysts. 展开更多
