Training of health personnel to improve knowledge and skills in taking Pap: Effect of an educational intervention to prevent cervical cancer

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention to improve knowledge and skills in taking Pap smear conducted by health staff implementing the program on Early Detection of Cervical Cancer. Methods: A quasiexperimental, longitudinal and prospective study, held from October 25 2010 to April 11, 2011 at a hospital in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. To select groups applied a non-probabilistic convenience sampling that was composed of 28 people, 15 for the study group and 13 to the control group. The study group received training that was divided into three phases in which assessed the knowledge and skills taking the smear, the control group received conventional training offered by your workplace. Papanicolaou quality was measured before and after the intervention. The reference used international classification system Bethesda 2001. For data analysis we used the Student t test. Results: The study group increased knowledge (t = 8.768, p = 0.000) in the management of official standards, in the anatomy of the lower female genital tract and in the form of testing. Technical skills (t = 8.639, p = 0.000) also increased in the study group after the intervention. The control group showed no significant changes. The quality report of the samples in the study group increased from 60% to 86.7% and in the control group decreased from 92.3% to 84.6%. Conclusions: The training is effective in improving the knowledge and skills in taking Pap. Health staff who received the training improved their performance and showed more interest in providing high quality service to women.

Factors Influencing Behavior of Taking Medicine in Elderly Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis

Purpose: The elderly are often faced with multiple diseases, in particular hemodialysis (HD) which requires many kinds of medication. This study examined the factors influencing the behavior of taking medicine in elderly patients undergoing HD. Subjects and Methods: The subjects comprised 70 outpatients > 65 years undergoing HD (48 male and 22 female). The mean age of the patients was 72.5 ± 4.4 years. The mean duration of dialysis history was 6.1 ± 5.2 years. We performed a questionnaire survey using Medication Assessment Tool, The Kidney Disease Quality of Life (QOL)-Short Form and Acceptance for Dialysis Instrument. Result: Two factors related to poor behavior of taking medicine: dialysis history < 2 years and poor acceptance of dialysis. The multiple regression analysis showed patient satisfaction (β = –0.329, p < 0.01) and symptoms/problems (β = –0.273, p<0.05) as significant independent variables relating to behavior of taking medicine. Conclusion: Poor behavior of taking medicine is related to a short dialysis period, poor acceptance and poor satisfaction of dialysis therapy in elderly patients.

Italian Asset Managers＇ Behavior： Evidence on Overconfidence, Risk Taking and Gender

This paper offers new insights into the Italian mutual fund industry. Surveying Italian professionals, we do not only reveal typical gender differences but also detect divergence to their German counterparts. While disclosing Italian professionals＇ overly positive self-assessment in general, we find evidence for male overconfidence in particular--though without being accompanied by excessive control illusion of the own information level. Asset managers＇ risk taking reveals further differences： Italian female professionals do not only assess themselves as more risk averse than their male colleagues, they also prefer a more passive portfolio management compared to the level they are allowed to. Moreover, in a tournament scenario near the end of the investment period female asset managers do not try to become the ultimate top performer when they have outperformed their peer group so far. However, in case of underperformance, the risk of deviating from the benchmark makes especially female professionals willing to seize a chance of catching up. Overall, compared to their German counterparts, we find Italian asset managers to be slightly more risk averse. Matching bounded former results on Italian mutual funds, we discuss interdependencies as well as impact of our findings at the individual asset managers＇ level on trading activity, management style and performance.

Care Taking of Obstetric Emergencies in the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at Donka National Hospital, University Teaching Hospital (CHU) of Conakry, Guinea

Objectives: The objectives of this work were to calculate the frequency of obstetrical emergencies, to describe the socio-demographic profile of women admitted for obstetric emergencies, to identify the main emergencies, to describe the care taking of emergencies and to establish the maternal foetal prognosis of obstetric emergencies. Methodology: It was a 6-month descriptive prospective study conducted in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of the Donka National Hospital, CHU Conakry, Guinea. The study took place from July 1st to December 31st, 2005. The data collected were entered and corrected using the Word and Excel 2010 software and then transferred to the Epi Info software version 7 for analysis. The results are presented in the form of tables, figures and texts using Word and Excel software, commented on, discussed and compared to current literature data. The limitations of the study: The poor filling of the partograph has been the main problem of our study. Results: The frequency of obstetric emergencies was 19% in the Department. The socio-demographic profile was that of a woman aged 15 to 24 (46.4%), married (92%), housewives (38.1%), out of school (49.5%), nulliparous (34.3%), without prenatal follow-up (47.37%), coming from home (56%), evacuated (44%). The main emergencies are dominated by haemorrhage (34.5%) followed by HTA Arterial hypertension and eclampsia (25.7%). The therapeutic attitude was based on clinical data and was dominated by caesarean section (70%). General anaesthesia was performed in 75% of cases and 1.6% benefited from local anaesthesia. The demand for blood was honoured in 19% of the cases. The maternal morbidity was dominated by anaemia (66.7%) and a lethality of 4%. After the 5th minute, 47% of the newborns had APGAR greater than 7. The neonatal mortality rate was 21%. Conclusion: To avoid and/or reduce obstetric emergencies, it is necessary to detect and treat risk factors during referrals, properly monitor child labor, refurbish providers of basic facilities, promptness in the management of the admission of emergencies and the availability of blood products.

Investigation of Family Factors of Adolescent Drug Taking

Objective: Discuss impacts of family environment over Hainan province adolescent drug taking behavior.Methods: Adopt "Investigation Questionnaire of Family Environment of Drug Abuse Adolescent in Hainan Province" that compiled by self and "Family Environment Scale(FES-CV-Ⅲ)" for research tools.To carry out questionnaire investigation to the 352 drug taking adolescents,who come from "The First Reeducation Through Labor Institute in Hainan Province","The Second Reeducation Through Labor Institute in Hainan Province" and "The Center of Spirit Drug Treated in Hainan Province",then give the data analysis and correlation analysis of the differences.Results: The Cohesion、Intellectual-Cultural orientation、Active-Recreational orientation、Organization、Expressiveness、Independence and Achievement Orientation scores of the drug taking adolescent families in Hainan province were significantly lower than normal samples in China,but the Moral-Religious Emphasis、Conflict and Control scores were significantly higher than the normal samples.Conclusions: The drug taking adolescent not only lack of well-educated families,but also has not been a good school education;most of their families belong to the low social class;adverse family environment is an important reason for drug abuse by adolescent.
