In light of the impending climate change crisis and the high labor and water costs accompanying it, direct-seeded rice(DSR) is unquestionably one of the most practical solutions. Despite its resource and climate-friendly advantages, early maturing rice faces weed competitiveness and seedling establishment challenges. Resolving these issues is crucial for promoting its wider adoption among farmers, presenting it as a more effective sustainable rice cultivation method globally. Diverse traditional and contemporary breeding methods are employed to mitigate the limitations of the DSR approach, leveraging advanced techniques such as speed breeding and genome editing. Focusing on key traits like mesocotyl length elongation, early seedling vigor, root system architecture, and weed competitiveness holds promise for transformative improvements in DSR adaptation at a broader scale within farming communities. This review aims to summarize how these features contribute to increased crop production in DSR conditions and explore the research efforts focusing on enhancing DSR adaptation through these traits. Emphasizing the pivotal role of these game-changing traits in DSR adaptation, our analysis sheds light on their potential transformative impact and offers valuable insights for advancing DSR practices.展开更多

Although the current diagnosis and treatment equipment and drug research and development keep pace with the times, the current medical technology still can not completely cure the disease, so it is of great significance to explore the pathogenesis and treatment target of AD. The disorder of energy metabolism is one of the characteristic changes in the pathological process of AD. Aerobic glycolysis (AEG) is a special metabolic pathway in the brain, which can rapidly consume glucose to produce energy and substrate for neurons, improve synaptic plasticity, neuroinflammation and oxidative damage, and contribute to the recovery of memory and cognitive function. In recent years, many literatures have reported the mechanism of AEG in AD and the intervention of Tradit Chin Med on this mechanism. The purpose of this paper is to summarize the role of AEG in AD and the related research on the regulation and control of AEG in the treatment of AD by Tradit Chin Med, in order to provide reference and ideas for the prevention and treatment of AD with Tradit Chin Med in the future.展开更多

Furthermore, studies indicate that physical exercise as an adjuvant can enhance the effects of medication in the treatment of ADHD. Aerobic and coordinative exercises improve executive functioning through their effect on neurocognitive domains that are implicated in ADHD. It is postulated that through their specific modus operandi, aerobic exercise, by raising cortical arousal levels, improves impaired alerting functions whereas coordinative exercises improve the regulation of inhibitory control through the involvement of a higher variety of frontal-dependent cognitive processes. The increasing use of routine neurocognitive testing with continuous performance tests (CPT), such as the QbTest, at clinical assessments for ADHD allows for an innovative approach to identify the assessment impairments in alerting function and inhibition control that are related to ADHD and accordingly choose aerobic or coordinative physical exercise in a more targeted fashion.展开更多

No specific therapies against sepsis have been reported. Celastrol(Cel) is a natural anti-inflammatory compound that shows potential against systemic inflammatory diseases. This study aimed to investigate the pharmacological activity and molecular mechanism of Cel in models of endotoxemia and sepsis. Methods: We evaluated the anti-inflammatory efficacy of Cel against endotoxemia and sepsis in mice and macrophage cultures treated with lipopolysaccharide(LPS). We screened for potential protein targets of Cel using activity-based protein profiling(ABPP). Potential targets were validated using biophysical methods such as cellular thermal shift assays(CETSA) and surface plasmon resonance(SPR). Residues involved in Cel binding to target proteins were identified through point mutagenesis, and the functional effects of such binding were explored through gene knockdown. Results: Cel protected mice from lethal endotoxemia and improved their survival with sepsis, and it significantly decreased the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in mice and macrophages treated with LPS(P <0.05). Cel bound to Cys424 of pyruvate kinase M2(PKM2), inhibiting the enzyme and thereby suppressing aerobic glycolysis(Warburg effect). Cel also bound to Cys106 in high mobility group box 1(HMGB1) protein, reducing the secretion of inflammatory cytokine interleukin(IL)-1β. Cel bound to the Cys residues in lactate dehydrogenase A(LDHA).Conclusions: Cel inhibits inflammation and the Warburg effect in sepsis via targeting PKM2 and HMGB1 protein.展开更多

Additionally, efficient removal of quinoline in enhanced MBBR occurred at the influent p H of 7.0–8.0, hydraulic retention time(HRT) of 24–28 h and influent quinoline concentration of 100–700 mg·L^(-1). High-throughput sequencing analysis indicated that bioaugmentation could increase microbial diversity and shape the microbial community structure. Although the inoculant LV1 did not remain its dominance in stage Ⅲ, bioaugmentation indeed induced the formation of effective microbial community, and the indigenous microbes including Flavobacterium, Pseudoxanthomonas,Pseudomonas, Vermamoeba, Dyadobacter and Sphingomonas might play the key role in quinoline removal.According to the PICRUSt, the enhanced genes encoding aromatic ring-cleavage enzyme, especially for Nheterocyclic ring-cleavage enzymes, could lead to the improved removal performance of quinoline in bioaugmentation stage. Moreover, the enhanced MBBR treated well actual coking wastewater, as indicated by high removal performance of quinoline, phenol and COD.展开更多

文摘Background:The benefits of exercise are well known;however, many of the underlying molecular mechanisms are not fully understood.Skeletal muscle secretes myokines, which mediate muscleorgan crosstalk.Myokines regulate satellite-cell proliferation and migration, inflammatory cascade, insulin secretion, angiogenesis, fatty oxidation, and cancer suppression. To date, the effects of different exercise modes(namely, aerobic and resistance exercise)on myokine response remain to be elucidated. This is crucial considering the clinical implementation of exercise to enhance general health and wellbeing and as a medical treatment. Methods:A systematic search was undertaken in PubMed,MEDLINE,CINAHL,Embase,SPORTDiscus, andWeb of Science in April 2023.Eligible studies examining the effects of a single bout of exercise on interleukin15(IL-15),irisin,secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine(SPARC),oncostatinM(OSM),and decorin were included.A random-effects meta-analysis was also undertaken to quantify the magnitude of change.Results:Sixty-two studies were included(n=1193).Overall,exercise appeared to induce small to large increases in myokine expression, with effects observed immediately after to 60 min post-exercise,although these were mostly not statistically significant. Both aerobic and resistance exercise resulted in changes in myokine levels, without any significant difference between training modes, and with the magnitude of change differing across myokines.Myokine levels returned to baseline levels within 180 min to 24 h post-exercise.However,owing to potential sources of heterogeneity, most changes were not statistically significant, indicating that precise conclusions cannot be drawn. Conclusion:Knowledge is limited but expanding with respect to the impact of overall and specific effects of exercise on myokine expression at different time points in the systemic circulation.Further research is required to investigate the effects of different exercise modes at multiple time points on myokine response.

文摘Synergic catalytic effect between active sites and supports greatly determines the catalytic activity for the aerobic oxidative desulfurization of fuel oils.In this work,Ni-doped Co-based bimetallic metal-organic framework(CoNi-MOF)is fabricated to disperse N-hydroxyphthalimide(NHPI),in which the whole catalyst provides plentiful synergic catalytic effect to improve the performance of oxidative desulfurization(ODS).As a bimetallic MOF,the second metal Ni doping results in the flower-like morphology and the modification of electronic properties, which ensure the exposure of NHPI and strengthen the synergistic effect of the overall catalyst.Compared with the monometallic Co-MOF and naked NHPI,the NHPI@CoNi-MOF triggers the efficient activation of molecular oxygen and improves the ODS performance without an initiator. The sulfur removal of dibenzothiophene-based model oil reaches 96.4%over the NHPI@CoNi-MOF catalyst in 8 h of reaction.Furthermore, the catalytic product of this aerobic ODS reaction is sulfone, which is adsorbed on the catalyst surface due to the difference in polarity. This work provides new insight and strategy for the design of a strong synergic catalytic effect between NHPI and bimetallic supports toward high-activity aerobic ODS materials.

文摘The sustainability of rice production continues to be a subject of uncertainty and inquiry attributed to shifts in climatic conditions. Emphasizing the pivotal role of these game-changing traits in DSR adaptation, our analysis sheds light on their potential transformative impact and offers valuable insights for advancing DSR practices.

文摘Background:Polymethoxylatedflavones(PMFs)are compounds present in citrus peels and other Rutaceae plants, which exhibit diverse biological activities, including robust antitumor and antioxidant effects. However, the mechanism of PMFs in reversing drug resistance to colon cancer remains unknown. In the present study,we aimed to investigate the potential connection between the aerobic glycolysis-ROS-autophagy signaling axis and the reversal of PTX resistance in colon cancer by PMFs.Methods:MTT Cell viability assay and colony formation assay were used to investigate the effect of PMFs combined with PTX in reversing HCT8/T cell resistance ex vivo;the mRNA and protein levels of the target were detected by SDS-PAGE(sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis),quantitative real-timefluorescence polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR)and Western blot protein immunoblotting(WB);An HCT8/T cell xenograft model was established to investigate the MDR reversal activity of PMFs in vivo; The extracellular acidification rate(ECAR)and the oxygen consumption rate(OCR)were detected to assess the cellular oxygen consumption rate and glycolytic process.Results:HCT8/T cells demonstrated significant resistance to PTX,up-regulating the expression levels of ABCB1 mRNA,P-gp,LC3-I,and LC3-II protein, and increasing intracellular reactive oxygen species(ROS)content.PMFs mainly contain two active ingredients, nobiletin, and tangeretin, which were able to reverse drug resistance in HCT8/T cells in a concentration-dependent manner.PMFs exhibited high tolerance in the HCT8/T nude mouse model while increasing the sensitivity of PTX-resistant cells and suppressing tumor growth significantly.PMFs combined with PTX reduced extracellular acidification rate(ECAR)and oxygen consumption rate(OCR)in HCT8/T cells.Additionally,PMFs reduced intracellular ROS content,down-regulated the expression levels of autophagy-related proteins LC3-I,LC3-II,Beclin1,and ATG7,and significantly reduced the number of autophagosomes in HCT8/T cells. Conclusions:The present study demonstrated that PMFs could potentially reverse PTX resistance in colon cancer by regulating the aerobic glycolysis-ROS-autophagy signaling axis, which indicated that PMFs would be potential potentiators for future chemotherapeutic agents in colon cancer.

文摘BACKGROUND Flight cadets need to have good physical fitness to cope with the challenges of flying missions. The continuous development of science and technology has led to the constant upgrading of fighter jets and the improvement of their performance, which has resulted in new and higher requirements for the physical fitness of flight personnel. The traditional physical training mode, method, and assessment have been used for many years and do not meet current fitness needs.AIM To investigate the impact of a 12-wk comprehensive anti-G fitness training program on the aerobic capacity of aviation cadets and to evaluate its effectiveness.METHODS Fifty-five cadets were randomly assigned to control and experimental groups using a randomized,single-blind design. The control group maintained their existing training regimen, while the experimental group participated in a 12-wk comprehensive training intervention. The training program comprised strength training twice per week,high-intensity interval training three times per week, and supplemental nutritional and psychological support.Maximal oxygen uptake(VO2max),lower limb strength, and hemoglobin levels were measured at baseline,at 6 wk and 12 wk post-intervention.RESULTS Repeated measures analysis of variance revealed significant differences of both VO2max and relative VO2 in both groups across time points(P<0.05).However,no significant time-group interaction was observed(P>0.05).Paired t-tests comparing baseline and 12-wk results showed that VO2max and relative VO2 were significantly higher in the experimental group than the control group(P<0.05).This suggests that the training program effectively enhanced the aerobic capacity of the experimental group.Key indicators of aerobic capacity, bilateral lower limb strength and hemoglobin levels, were also significantly different over time and between groups(P<0.05).No significant differences were noted in heart-rate metrics(P>0.05).CONCLUSION A 12-wk comprehensive anti-G fitness training program significantly improved the aerobic capacity of aviation cadets, thereby enhancing their overall capacity and laying a physiological foundation for enduring high-G flights.

文摘A growing body of studies and systematic reviews show evidence of the beneficial effects of physical exercise on core symptoms of ADHD. The increasing use of routine neurocognitive testing with continuous performance tests (CPT), such as the QbTest, at clinical assessments for ADHD allows for an innovative approach to identify the assessment impairments in alerting function and inhibition control that are related to ADHD and accordingly choose aerobic or coordinative physical exercise in a more targeted fashion.

文摘Background: Sepsis involves life-threatening organ dysfunction and is caused by a dysregulated host response to infection. Cel bound to the Cys residues in lactate dehydrogenase A(LDHA).Conclusions: Cel inhibits inflammation and the Warburg effect in sepsis via targeting PKM2 and HMGB1 protein.

文摘Background:The Warburg effect is considered as a hallmark of various types of cancers, while the regulatory mechanism is poorly understood. Our previous study demonstrated that miR-194-5p directly targets and regulates insulin-like growth factor1 receptor(IGF1R).In this study,we aimed to investigate the role of miR-194-5p in the regulation of the Warburg effect in ovarian cancer cells. Methods:The stable ovarian cell lines with miR-194-5p overexpression or silencing IGF1R expression were established by lentivirus infection.ATP generation, glucose uptake, lactate production and extracellular acidification rate(ECAR)assay were used to analyze the effects of aerobic glycolysis in ovarian cancer cells.Gene expression was analyzed by quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qPCR)and western blot.Immunohistochemistry assays were performed to assess the expression of the IGF1R protein in ovarian cancer tissues. Results:Overexpression of miR-194-5p or silencing IGF1R expression in ovarian cancer cells decreases ATP generation, glucose uptake, lactate production, and ECAR and inhibits both the mRNA and protein expression of PKM2,LDHA,GLUT1,and GLUT3.While the knockdown of miR-194-5p expression led to opposite results.Overexpression of miR-194-5p or silencing IGF1R expression suppressed the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/protein kinase B(PI3K/AKT)pathway,whose activation can sustain aerobic glycolysis in cancer cells, and the knockdown of miR-194-5p expression promoted the activation of the PI3K/AKT pathway. Conclusion:Our results suggest that miR-194-5p can inhibit the Warburg effect by negative regulation of IGF1R and further repression of the PI3K/AKT pathway, which provides a theoretical basis for further test of miR-194-5p as a target in the treatment of ovarian cancer.
文摘Concentrations of metals along with pH,potential redox(Eh),total dissolved solid(TDS),electrical conductivity(EC)and salinity were measured for sediments of different layers, pore and surface water in the Anzali wetland. Also, the diffusive flux of metals was calculated ad compared with the values in other aquatic bodies. The abundance of metals in sediments was Al>Fe>Ca>Ti>Mn>Zn>V>Cr>Ni>Cu>Pb>Co>As>Mo>Ag>Cd,while the pore-water results indicated a different concentration profile:Ca>Mn>Fe>Al>V>Mo>As>Ni>Cu>Co.Anzali wetland is classified within a high ecological risk.Pore-water toxicity test showed it is in non-polluted condition.Eh–pH diagrams showed that all species of elements are in a stable state in surface and pore-waters.However,Mn and Co(in some layers)are in soluble form and free ions and thus are bioavailable to the organisms.V and As are also present in the form of hydrogen compounds and Ni in the form of hydroxides, therefore, they are toxic to aquatic animals due to their solubility and ionic forms.Diffusive fluxes for As,Al,Fe,Ca,Cu,Mn,Mo,Ni and V are 0.43,1.80,48.52,43,147.50,0.12,1.47,0.15,1.28,0.21μg/m^(2)/day,respectively.Cluster analysis showed that in a solid phase of sediments, elements such as Cr,As and Ti are of petroleum and terrestrial origin. In pore-waters,Cu is of petroleum and biological origin, and Mo,As,Cu and Co are controlled by p H.

文摘Background Non-exercise estimated cardiorespiratory fitness(NEE-CRF)has been shown to be associated with mortality, although its association with cancer incidence is unknown. The study aimed to assess the prospective association between NEE-CRF and cancer incidence in a large cohort of men and women. Methods The National Institutes of Health-American Association of Retired Persons diet and health study is a prospective cohort that included 402,548 participants aged 50–71 years who were free from cancer at baseline(1995–1996)(men(n=238,835)and women(n=163,713))and were followed until December 31,2015.The exposure variable was NEE-CRF expressed in metabolic equivalents.NEE-CRF was estimated using a validated equation of self-reported predictors on demographics and lifestyle behaviors derived from baseline questionnaires.Primary outcomes were total cancer incidence and incidence of prostate, breast, lung, and colorectal cancers.Cox proportional hazards models were analyzed for the association between NEE-CRF and cancer incidence outcomes adjusted for established cancer risk factors. Results During 13.7±3.2 years of follow-up(mean±SD),64,344 men and 31,315 women developed a new cancer. For every 1-metabolic equivalent higher NEE-CRF,the hazard ratios and 95%confidence intervals(95%CIs)were 0.96(95%CI:0.94–0.97)and 0.88(95%CI:0.84–0.92)of total and colorectal cancer incidence among men,and 0.95(95%CI:0.93–0.97)and 0.94(95%CI:0.91–0.97)of total and breast cancer incidence among women, respectively(all p<0.001).NEE-CRF was not associated with incidence of prostate and lung cancers in men or colorectal and lung cancers in women. Conclusion These results suggest that higher CRF levels,as assessed by the applied non-exercise estimated method, may provide preventive benefits against the development of cancer, while low CRF could potentially serve as a modifiable cancer risk factor.Integrating NEE-CRF into screening paradigms and referring low-fit individuals to improve CRF could complement the public health prevention strategy against cancer.

文摘This study evaluated the bioaugmentation potential of a quinoline-degrading strain Pseudomonas citronellolis LV1 inoculation into activated sludge for treating quinoline wastewater, and results indicated the inoculation of LV1 in aerobic continuous MBBR could substantially improve the quinoline removal performance with an improved removal efficiency of 34% averagely when quinoline was used as the sole carbon and nitrogen source. Moreover, the enhanced MBBR treated well actual coking wastewater, as indicated by high removal performance of quinoline, phenol and COD.
