Aluminum capacitor foils with a tunnel etch structure were reacted with boiling water and then anodized at 530 V in boric acid solution or boric acid+citric acid mixed solution.The microstructure and crystallinity of the resulting anodized film were examined by TEM and XRD.The special capacitance,resistance and withstanding voltage of the film were explored with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS),LCR meter and small-current charging.The results show that the high voltage anodized oxide film consists of an inner layer with high crystallinity and an outer layer with low crystallinity.However,the crystallinity of the film formed in boric acid+citric acid mixed solution is higher than that of the film formed in only boric acid solution,leading to an increase in film's field strength and special capacitance.Meanwhile,there are more defects from phase transformation in the out layer of the film formed in boric acid+citric acid mixed solution than in that of film formed in only boric acid solution,leading to a decrease in film's resistance and withstanding voltage. 展开更多

The rare earth sealing procedure of the porous film of anodized aluminum alloy 2024 was studied with the fieldemission scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The results show thatRE solution can form cerium oxide/hydroxides precipitation in the pores of the anodized coating at the beginning ofsealing. At the same time, the spherical deposits formed on the surface of the anodized coating created a barrierto the precipitation of RE solution in the pores. When the pore-structured anodizing film is covered all with thespherical deposits, RE conversion coating will form on the surface of the anodized coating. The reaction of thecoating formation was investigated by employing cyclic voltammetry. The results indicate that accelerator H2O2 actsas the source of O2 by carrying chemical reaction in course of coating formation. In the mean time, it maybe carrieselectrochemical reaction to generate alkaline condition to accelerate the coating formation. The porous structure ofthe film is beneficial to the precipitation of the cerium hydroxides film. 展开更多

Corrosion resistance of the treated surface was evaluated with polarization curves. The results showed that the effect of the protection using rare earth sealing is equivalent to that using chromate sealing for Al6061/SiCp. The Ni particles and the Ni oxide precursor were examined by SEM, TEM and X-ray diffraction. The thickness of the barrier layer of the porous oxide film was thin and it attributed to the formation of the metal particles, while the formation of the oxide precursor was associated with the surface pits which were developed in the pretreatment of Al. 展开更多

Al-base surface self-lubricating composites need thick and hard alumina membranes with large pores to add lubricants easily. This kind of porous alumina layer was fabricated in additive-containing, phosphoric acid-based solution. The effects of additive containing organic carboxylic acid and Ce salt on the properties of the oxide film and mechanism were investigated in detail with SEM and EDAX analyses. The results show that the pore diameter is about 100 nm, the film thickness increases by 4 -5 times, and the Vickers hardness improves by about 50% through adding some amount of organic carboxylic acid and Ce salt. Such an improvement in properties is explained in terms of a lower film dissolving velocity and better film quality in compound solution. 展开更多

Marine corrosion and biofouling seriously affect the service life of marine structural materials,resulting in performance failure,enormous economic loss,and even catastrophic safety accidents.It is worthwhile and desirable to develop high-efficiency strategy for anti-corrosion and anti-biofouling.In this paper,superhydrophobic 5083 aluminum alloy(AA5083)surface with micro-nano hierarchical morphology was fabricated through anodization followed by 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane(POTS)modification.The surface morphologies,roughness,and chemical compositions were revealed by scanning electron microscopy,atomic force microscopy,and X-ray diffraction.The self-cleaning ability,corrosion resistance and algae adhesion suppression ability of the fabricated surfaces were investigated,indicating an excellent water-proofing,anti-corrosion and anti-biofouling performance.We believe the superhydrophobic creation of metallic materials is expected to have potential applications in marine corrosion and antibiofouling fields. 展开更多

Photoelectrochemical(PEC) water splitting offers the capability of harvesting, storing, and converting solar energy into clean and sustainable hydrogen energy. Metal oxides are appealing photoelectrode materials because of their easy manufacturing and relatively high stability. In particular, metal oxides prepared by electrochemical anodization are typical of ordered nanostructures, which are beneficial for light harvesting, charge transfer and transport, and the adsorption and desorption of reactive species due to their high specific surface area and rich channels. However, bare anodic oxides still suffer from low charge separation and sunlight absorption efficiencies. Accordingly, many strategies of modifying anodic oxides have been explored and investigated. In this review, we attempt to summarize the recent advances in the rational design and modifications of these oxides from processes before, during, and after anodization. Rational design strategies are thoroughly addressed for each part with an aim to boost overall PEC performance. The ongoing efforts and challenges for future development of practical PEC electrodes are also presented. 展开更多

Experimental results on processing,structural and mechanical characterization of a multilayer composite based on commercially pure aluminum foils were presented.A multilayer composite was produced by hot-rolling of anodized and non-anodized aluminum foils alternately sandwiched.In addition,the same process was applied for bonding of non-anodized foils.In both cases,obtained multilayer composites were compact and sound.In order to study composites microstructural evolution and mechanical properties,optical and scanning electron microscopy(SEM),energy dispersive spectrometry(EDS),X-ray diffraction(XRD)analysis,hardness,tensile and three-point flexural tests were performed.Microstructural characterization confirmed that the rod-like particles distributed in parallel rows in the composite aluminum matrix with anodized foils correspond to Al2O3.Maximum and minimum peaks of oxygen and aluminum,respectively,suggest that after the final hot-rolling of composite with non-anodized foils,a small amount of coarser particles were formed at boundaries between foils.Hardness,strength,modulus of elasticity and flexural strength of both multilayer composites were much higher than those of pure aluminum,whereas ductility was significantly less.The composite with anodized foils exhibited the highest strength and modulus of elasticity,but lower ductility compared to composite processed from non-anodized foils.Fracture failure corresponded to the change of ductility. 展开更多

It has been revealed that the different morphologies of anodized TiO_2 nanotubes, especially nanotube diameters, triggered different cell behaviors. However, the influence of TiO_2 nanotubes with coexisting multi-size diameters on cell behaviors is seldom reported. In this work, coexisting four-diameter TiO_2 nanotube samples, namely,one single substrate with the integration of four different nanotube diameters(60, 150, 250, and 350 nm), were prepared by repeated anodization. The boundaries between two different diameter regions show well-organized structure without obvious difference in height. The adhesion behaviors of MC3T3-E1 cells on the coexisting fourdiameter TiO_2 nanotube arrays were investigated. The results exhibit a significant difference of cell density between smaller diameters(60 and 150 nm) and larger diameters(250 and 350 nm) within 24 h incubation with the coexistence of different diameters, which is totally different from that on the single-diameter TiO_2 nanotube arrays. The coexistence of four different diameters does not change greatly the cell morphologies compared with the singlediameter nanotubes. The findings in this work are expected to offer further understanding of the interaction between cells and materials. 展开更多

The results showed that the coating remained passivity at the potential range from the open circuit potential (-780 mV) to -250 mV in NaCl solution. The concentration of Ce-rich conversion coating on the anodized Al based metal matrix composites AI6061/SiCp was then studied according to this method. The results revealed that the Ce conversion coating on the anodized AI6061/SiCp consisted of Al oxide, Ce oxide and Ce hydroxide. The state of Ce element exhibited the mixture of Ce3+ and Ce4+. The 2024 anodized aluminum alloy film was sealed by KAl(SO_(4))_(2)solution and the effect of sealing on corrosion resistance was investigated by means of potentiodynamic polarization curves,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy,and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.The experimental results show that the optimal parameters for KAl(SO_(4))_(2)sealing are 35℃,with the pH value of 8,the concentration of 8 g/L,and the sealing time of 3 min.The corrosion resistance of the KAl(SO_(4))_(2)sealed sample can be significantly improved than that of unsealed one,and is obviously superior to that of the conventional hydrothermal sealed sample.Furthermore,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy demonstrates that more Al(OH)_(3)will be formed in the process of KAl(SO_(4))_(2)sealing,which will shrink the diameter of the microporous and therefore results in the excellent corrosion resistance. 展开更多

The effects of anodizing conditions (electrolyte, current density and temperature) on the friction coefficient and Vickers mierohardness of anodic oxide layers formed on A1 5754 and A1 1050A substrates were investigated. The studied properties were examined using DELTALAB HVS-1000 Vickers mierohardness tester and rotating pin on disc tribometer. It was established that the highest microhardness (〉HV 400) and the lowest friction coefficient (〈0.4) were obtained with the oxalic acid addition of 10 g/L at high current density of 3 A/dm2 and low temperature of 5 ~C. The presence of oxidized Mg through the anodic oxide layer formed on A1 5754 was examined using glow-discharge optical emission spectroscopy (GDOES). The MgO was found to act negatively on the mechanical property of the layer. Finally, the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used to characterize the anodic layer before and after friction tests. It is found that the wear mechanism is related to many aspects of the initial morphology, chemical composition of the layer (C, S and Mg), porosity and internal stress. 展开更多

The oxidation performance and tribological properties of the anodized Ti45Al8.5Nb were investigated.Anodization was performed in ethylene glycol containing 0.15 mol/L NH_(4)F.Results showed that the anodized Ti45Al8.5Nb alloy exhibited good resistance against oxidation.After 100 h oxidation at 1000℃,the mass gain of the anodized Ti45Al8.5Nb alloy was only 0.37 mg/cm^(2).This is attributed to the generation of protective oxide scale.On the other hand,the hardness and elastic modulus of the anodized Ti45Al8.5Nb alloy decreased and then increased with the prolonging of thermal exposure due to the generation of the Al_(2)O_(3)-enriched outermost oxide layer. 展开更多

In the present study, 2024 aluminum alloy specimen was anodized in acetic acid and oxalic acid e- lectrolytes. Effects of the current density on the microstructure and corrosion resistance of anodic oxide film have been investigated. The steady voltage increases from 11 V to 71 V with the current density increase from 0. 5 A/din2 to 2. 5 A/din2. The SEM reveals that there are pits, cavities and irregular pores in the anodic film, and their size and morphologies change with the current density. The corrosion resistance of the film was evalua- ted by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance in 0.1 mol/L FeC13 solution at room temper- ature. The results show that corrosion resistance of the anodic oxide film changes with the current density, and the anodic fihn formed at the current density of 1.0 A/dm2 has the best corrosion resistance. A commercially pure titanium sheet with titanium carbide (TiC) precipitated in its surface layer was anodized in NH4NO3 aqueous solution and heat treated in air. The photocatalytic activity of titanium dioxide powder collected from the surface of the anodized titanium sheet was evaluated under ultra-violet and visible light irradiation. It showed relatively high photocatalytic activity in 0.1 mol/l potassium iodide solution, which was almost equal to the activity level of TiO2 powder (P-25) manufactured by Degussa Corporation. The better photocatalytic activity under ultra-violet irradiation is considered to be related to the formation of anatase type titanium dioxide. Photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation was also observed, which was considered to be attributable to impurity doping, (carbon), in the titanium dioxide powder. 展开更多

In the present work,hierarchical nanostructured titanium dioxide(TiO2) films were fabricated on Ti-25Nb-3Mo-2Sn-3Zr(TLM) alloy for biomedical applications via one-step anodization process in ethylene glycolbased electrolyte containing 0.5wt% NH4F.The nanostructured TiO2 films exhibited three distinct types depending on the anodization time:top irregular nanopores(INP)/beneath regular nanopores(RNP),top INP/middle regular nanotubes(RNT)/bottom RNP and top RNT with underlying RNP.The evolution of the nanostructured TiO2 films with anodization time demonstrated that self-organizing nanopores formed at the very beginning and individual nanotubes originated from underlying nanopore dissolution.Furthermore,a modified two-stage self-organizing mechanism was introduced to illustrate the growth of the nanostructured TiO2 films.Compared with TLM titanium alloy matrix,the TiO2 films with special nano-structure hold better hydrophilicity and higher specific surface area,which lays the foundation for their biomedical applications. 展开更多

A commercially pure titanium sheet precipitated TiC in the surface layer was fabricated by anodic oxidation in NH4NO3 solution and heat treatment in air. The fabricated sheet showed relatively high photocatalytic activity in 0.1 M KI solution, which was close to the activity level of the P-25 particle made by Degussa Corporation. It exhibited photocatalytic activity in antifungal and antivirus tests under black light irradiation. The better photocatalytic activity under black light irradiation is considered to be related to the formation of anatase and rutile type titanium dioxides and rough surface. It also showed photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation, which is considered to be attributable to carbon and nitrogen doping in titanium dioxide. 展开更多
