Aurum nanomaterials(ANM), combining the features of nanotechnology and metal elements, have demonstrated enormous potential and aroused great attention on biomedical applications over the past few decades. Particularly, their advantages, such as controllable particle size, flexible surface modification, higher drug loading, good stability and biocompatibility, especially unique optical properties, promote the development of ANM in biomedical field. In this review, we will discuss the advanced preparation process of ANM and summarize their recent applications as well as their prospects in diagnosis and therapy. Besides, multi-functional ANM-based theranostic nanosystems will be introduced in details, including radiotherapy(RT), photothermal therapy(PTT), photodynamic therapy(PDT), immunotherapy(IT), and so on. 展开更多

Here, I touch on briefly how broad optical sensing and sensing generally has become and how and why it is becoming the catalyst for the convergence of many technologies and in the process raising significant philosophical questions about the transformation of our society and indeed ourselves. In doing so I touch on many of the complexities in real life that influence the breakthroughs we see today, including a healthy speculation and critique on our society and an awareness of the motivations to improve it that drive many of them. 展开更多

Atomically precise water-soluble gold nanoclusters(Au NCs)protected by organic ligands have attracted growing attention in serving as unique nanomaterials with the potential to generate theranostic tools(bioimaging,biosensing,and biotherapy),due to their ultrasmall size,superior photoluminescence,good biocompatibility,and nontoxicity.More importantly,Au NCs afford a well-defined atomic packing structure and molecular purity,providing a superior platform to unravel the structure−performance correlations for biodistribution,biological pharmacokinetics,and excretion of Au NCs.In this Review,we mainly survey the synthesis of water-soluble Au NCs and the recent progress in biomedicine of Au NCs,including bioimaging,biosensing,and biotherapy.The effects of ligand and size on the biomedical properties are discussed in detail.We hope that the advances in this research area can expand the applications of Au NCs in biomedicine. 展开更多
