The effects of the tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) dosage on the morphology, wettability, and thermal stability of the composite separators were investigated using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and contact-angle measurements. All the composite separators gave a smaller contact angle, higher electrolyte uptake, and lower thermal shrinkage compared with the PP separator, indicating enhanced wettability and thermal stability. Unlike the case for a traditional physical mixture, Si-O-C covalent bonds were formed in the coating layer. The composite separator with a TEOS dosage of 7.5 wt% had a unique porous structure combining hierarchical pores with interstitial voids, and gave the best wettability and thermal stability. The ionic conductivity of the composite separator containing 7.5 wt% TEOS was 1.26 mS/cm, which is much higher than that of the PP separator (0.74 mS/cm). The C-rate and cycling performances of batteries assembled with the composite separator containing 7.5 wt% TEOS were better than those of batteries containing PP separators.展开更多

One application of this technology is the treatment of flue gases from combustion processes for the purpose of carbon capture and storage. For this application, poly(ethylene oxide)-containing block copolymers such as Pebax or PolyActiveTM polymer are well suited. The thin-film composite membrane that is considered in this overview employs PolyActiveTM polymer as a selective layer material. The membrane shows excellent CO2 permeances of up to 4 m^3(STP).(m^2·h·bar)^-1 (1 bar = 105 Pa) at a carbon dioxide/nitrogen (CO2/N2) selectivity exceeding 55 at ambient temperature. The membrane can be manufactured reproducibly on a pilot scale and mounted into fiat-sheet membrane modules of different designs. The operating performance of these modules can be accurately predicted by specifically developed simulation tools, which employ single-gas permeation data as the only experimental input. Several different inorganic materials have been studied for the coating. However, there lacks a study on how different the properties of separators, in inorganic materials affect terms of thermal stability and cell performance. Herein, we present such a study on coating a commercial polypropylene separator with four inorganic materials, i.e., Al2O3, SiO2, ZrO2 and zeolite. All inorganic coatings have improved thermal stability of the separators although with differences. The coating layers add 28%-45% of electrical resistance compared with the pure polypropylene separator, but all the cells prepared with the coated polypropylene separators have the same electrical chemical performance as the uncoated separator in terms of rate capability and capacities at different temperatures.展开更多

While, thermal safety, as one of the important security concerns facing the further application, gets little attention. Here, the high-performance polyimide film is successfully developed to enhance the safety margin based on the excellent mechanical strength and heat resistance corresponding to the traditional separator. And, the polyimide film with the Mo S2 coating made by spraying method as the composite separator can not only improve the wettability to the electrolyte, but also in-situ form an artificial layer with the low nucleation barrier for the Li ions. When used in both the coin cell and the pouch cell, all achieve the outstanding cycling stability and the coulombic efficiency. Specially, the in-situ Li ions nucleation behaviors are investigated by optical microscopy in the capillary cell. The electric field intensity at the Li anode surface is also simulated by COMSOL Multiphysics to further elucidate the effect of the coating.展开更多

文摘Separator is supposed to own outstanding thermal stability, superior wettability and electrolyte uptake, which is essential for developing high-rate and safe lithium metal batteries(LMBs).However, commercial polyolefin separators possess poor wettability and limited electrolyte uptake. For addressing this issue,we put forward a composite separator to implement above functions by doping layered-silicate(talcum)into polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF).With significant improvement of electrolyte absorption benefiting from the strong adsorption energy values(-1.64-1.70 eV)between talcum and the electrolyte in lithium metal batteries,PVDF/Talcum(PVDF/TM)composite separator owns a small contact angle and superior electrolyte uptake.PVDF/TM composite separator with 10 wt%talcum(T-10)owns a tiny contact angle of 8°,while those of polypropylene(PP)and PVDF are 48°and 20°with commercial electrolyte. Moreover, the addition of thermotolerant talcum endows the T-10 composite separator with great thermostability, whose thermal shrinkage is only 5.39%at 150°C for 0.5 h.The cell with LiFeO4cathode and the T-10 composite separator reaches 91.7 m Ah/g in discharge capacity at 4.8 m A/cm^(2)(10 C),far superior to that with pure PVDF separator(56.3 m Ah/g)and PP(51.4 m Ah/g).
文摘Coating commercial porous polyolefin separators with inorganic materials can improve the thermal stability of the polyolefin separators and hence improve the safety of lithium-ion batteries. The coating layers add 28%-45% of electrical resistance compared with the pure polypropylene separator, but all the cells prepared with the coated polypropylene separators have the same electrical chemical performance as the uncoated separator in terms of rate capability and capacities at different temperatures.
文摘Lithium(Li) metal batteries have received extensive research focusing on the dendrite growth issue on account of the high chemical activity of Li anode. The electric field intensity at the Li anode surface is also simulated by COMSOL Multiphysics to further elucidate the effect of the coating.
文摘The ceramic composite separators coated with silica or alumina particles have been used in power batteries due to their better electrolyte wettability and better thermal stability compared with bare polymer separators. However, these oxide ceramics are Liþion insulators, which increase internal resistance and hinder the improvement of rate capability of batteries.Herein,we report a strategy to further improving the performance of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)by using fast ionic conductor ceramic composite separator as an alternative to traditional ceramic coated separators.Lithium lanthanum titanate(LLTO),a fast ionic conductor with excellent room temperature bulk conductivity, are coated on the common polyethylene(PE)separators. Our results demonstrate that such a novel LLTO-coated separator possess excellent electrolyte wettability and thermal stability;and the assembled NCM523/graphite lithium-ion pouch cells with LLTO-coated separator show better rate capability and cyclic performance with 88.7%capacity retention after 1000 cycles at room temperature compared with the pouch cells with Al2O_(3)-coated separators. The fast ionic conductor ceramic composite separators will be a potential competitor to the next-generation novel separators for high-performance Li-ion power batteries.

文摘A method is presented for the computer-assisted optimization of mobile phase selection for the separation of a synthetic intermediate of unknown composition by reversed- phase HPLC.The method is based on recognition of the order of the peaks by comparison of peak area ratio and followed by the BSOS-L(Binary Solvent Optimization System for HPLC)method.Excellent agreement was obtained between predicted data and experimental results.
