Here, wave- let theory is used to study the complexity and multi-scale periodicity of the hydrological time series of the Dalai Lake Basin in In- ner Mongolia. Two large rivers, the Kelulun and the Wurxun, are the main inflows to Dalai Lake, which is currently shrinking. The annual and monthly flows of the Kelultm River are shown to vary more than those of the Wurxun River, and the monthly flows of the two rivers vary much more than their annual flows. Db5 wavelets are shown to be more suitable for annual flow cal- culations, whereas Db4 wavelets are more suitable for monthly flow calculations. Multi-scale wavelet analysis of the annual and monthly flows of the Kelulun and Wurxun rivers shows that the variation of the two rivers is similar and has a 25-year cycle, 12 years of wet and 12 years of drought periods, and our results show that both rivers are expected to transition into a wet period be- ginning in 2012. Therefore, the Dalai Lake Basin, which has been in a drought period since 2000, is expected to gradually transit into a wet period from 2012 onward.展开更多

China is the most-frequently studied nation in Asian mass communication research. The past the 14th Dalai Lama's image studies mainly focus on Western mainstream newspapers, due to the fact that these newspapers are well established and frequently read by policy-makers and other influential individuals. In recent years, "Social media" has become a new buzzword. Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Weibo etc. have made a considerable impact on contemporary life. What is the 14th Dalai Lama's image as it is represented via Western social media? Do Western social media publish the 14th Dalai Lama's different contents, from a different perspective, or in a different way from that of the standard Western mainstream news outlets? Are there any differences between the image of the 14th Dalai Lama on Western social media and on mainstream media? What are differences between the image of the 14th Dalai Lama on Western and Chinese social media when discussing the same event or topic? The research aims to answer these questions the 14th Dalai Lama; Western social media; Chinese social media.展开更多

Did he do what he has said? The Los Auged Times carried an article titled CIA Gave Aid to Tibetan Exiles in ’60s, Files Show on September 15, 1998, stating that the 14th Dalai Lama spent much of his time in the 1960s working for CIA support. He had received US$1 .7 million from the US intelligence agency in aid of his work against China. And he himself received US$180,000 from it as allowances. This fact belies his alleged favor for negotiation with the Central Government, and makes us suspect of his honest in "giving up his effort for Tibetan independence." The following is the said American article.展开更多
