Background Juvenile Fibromyalgia Syndrome (JFMS) is a chronic health condition characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain and multiple tender points (TP).The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of JFMS in the urban population of Samsun and to determine the impact of JFMS on depression symptoms, school performance and quality of life (QOL).Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in 1109 children (mean age (14.8±2.0) years old).A questionnaire was applied to the children and a medical examination including TP was performed.Yunus and Masi's criteria were used for diagnosis of JFMS.The children with JFMS were compared with an age and sex matched non-JFMS group.Depression was assessed with Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) and QOL was evaluated with Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory 4.0 (PedsQL4.0).Results Sixty-one (5.5%) (13 boys and 48 girls) of 1109 children met the diagnostic criteria of JFMS.While PedsQL scores of children with JFMS were lower than the non-JFMS group for physical, emotional, social, school functioning and total score (P=0.001),CDI total score was higher in the JFMS group than in the non-JFMS group (P=0.001).The JFMS group reported more school absences (P=0.001) and the average school grade was lower in the JFMS group than in the non-JFMS group (P=0.03).Conclusion The prevalence of JFMS is high in school age children.Since JFMS is a common problem of childhood, early diagnosis and identification of the disorder and more comprehensive and successful treatment approaches with appropriate psychological assistance may prevent more complex and severe problems in adulthood. 展开更多

Backgrounds: To observe the effects of aerobic exercise program on the illness symptoms and cardiopulmonary capacity of the patients with primary Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) and to find out whether there is a difference or not in terms of cardiovascular capacity among the patients with primary FMS and sedentary healthy people. Materials and Methods: The study has been done on 20 female patients with primary FMS. Before the study and after a 6-week controlled aerobic exercise program, a cardiopulmonary exercise test has been applied on all cases. The symptoms, psychological state and life quality of the cases have been evaluated before and after the exercise program. The first cardiopulmonary results of the cases with FMS have been compared with a control group of 15 sedentary healthy. Results: When the patient and control groups are compared, although maksimal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) was lower in the patient group, this was not a significant difference. VO2 max showing the aerobic condition after the exercise increased significantly in the patients. Conclusions: Aerobic exercise programs lasting six to eight weeks are quite effective for the patients with FMS. There is not any limitation in the increase of the cardiopulmonary capacity of the patients after the exercise program. 展开更多

Objective:Wet cupping therapy(WCT)is one of the complementary and traditional therapies that are still must be scientifically interpreted. This study aimed to assess hemogram parameters that are subclinical inflammatory markers in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome(FMS)and observe how they were affected with WCT.Methods:The present study consisted of two groups;patient group included participants who were diagnosed with FMS and who received WCT and control group included healthy participants who received WCT within the concept of preventive medicine.Results:Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)and platelet-lymphocyte ratio(PLR)values were higher in the patient group(P=0.029and P=0.003,respectively).Considering that the participants had FMS,the optimal cutoff value for PLR was≥1.62,sensitivity was 70%,specificity was 56%,positive predictive value was 61.7%,and negative predictive value was 65.3%.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve revealed a significant sensitivity and specificity(ROC area=0.664),(confidence interval[CI]:0.530–0.781)(P<0.023).The optimal cutoff value for PLR was≥146,sensitivity was 60%,specificity was 83%,positive predictive value was 78%,and negative predictive value was 67%.ROC curve revealed a statistically significant sensitivity and specificity(ROC area=0.726),(CI:0.59–0.83)(P<0.001).The optimal cutoff value for platelet was≥284,000,sensitivity was 83%,specificity was 40%,positive predictive value was 58%,and negative predictive value was 70%.ROC curve revealed a significant sensitivity and specificity(ROC area=0.65),(CI:0.51–0.76)(P=0.036).Conclusion:NLR,PLR,and thrombocyte count parameters can be useful in the process of diagnosing FMS.In addition,NLR,PLR,and MPV decreased in patients who received WCT. 展开更多
