Stress and strain distributions in joint elements were then estimated for each joint using ANSYS finite element (FE) software. The bending moment capacity of joints increased significantly with thickness and length of the tenon. Based on the FE analysis results, under uniaxial bending, the highest shear stress values were obtained in the middle parts of the tenon, while the highest shear elastic strain values were estimated in glue lines between the tenon sur-faces and walls of the mortise. Shear stress and shear elastic strain values in joint elements generally increased with tenon dimensions and corre-sponding bending moment capacities. There was consistency between predicted maximum shear stress values and failure modes of the joints.展开更多

The longitudinal force that the draft gear absorbs usually leads to the failure of its components, especially, the load bearing draft pads. Dynamic behaviour of an individual draft pad and a draft gear is determined and characterized with exciting frequen- cies and corresponding mode shapes. The effect of compressive prestress load on the dynamic behaviour of an individual draft pad is also determined as the draft pads in assembled state are under constant axial compressive force in the draft gear. The vibration characteristics of individual draft pad are compared with draft pads that are part of draft gear. The modal analysis gives us a basis for subjecting a draft pad to higher frequency loading for determining its fatigue behaviour.展开更多

However, the EMF process is complicated due to magnetic-structure coupling analysis. Numerical simulation offers an opportunity to overcome the problem. Nevertheless, most present models for EMF process are limited to 2D axisymmetric model. So, a three-dimensional (3D) finite element model was established to analyze the electromagnetic sheet bulging. The contact between the sheet and the die and the effect of sheet deformation on the magnetic field analysis were both taken into consideration during the forming process. The simulation results of deflection at the sheet center and 20 mm away from the center were in agreement with the experimental ones. The plastic strain energy and plastic strain were analyzed.展开更多
