However, the study on dynamic response of plates to moving vehicles has so far received but scant attention. A plate-vehicle strip for simulating the interaction between a rectangular plate and moving vehicles was described. For the portion of strips that are in direct contact with the moving vehicles, the plate-vehicle strips were employed. Conventional plate finite strips were used to model the portion of strips that are not directly under the action of moving vehicles. In the analysis, each moving vehicle is idealized as a one-foot dynamic system with tire unsprung mass and sprund mass interconnected by a spring and a dashpot. The numerical results obtained from the proposed method agree well with available results.展开更多

The paper presents two methods for the formulation of free vibration analysis of collecting electrodes of precipitators.The first,called the hybrid finite element method, combines the finit element method used for cal...The paper presents two methods for the formulation of free vibration analysis of collecting electrodes of precipitators.The first,called the hybrid finite element method, combines the finit element method used for calculations of spring deformations with the rigid finite element method used to reflect mass and geometrical features,which is called the hybrid finite element method.As a result,a model with a diagonal mass matrix is obtained.Due to a specific geometry of the electrodes,which are long plates of complicated shapes,the second method proposed is the strip method which is a semi-analytical method.The strip method allows us to formulate the equations of motion with a considerably smaller number of generalized coordinates.Results of numerical calculations obtained by both methods are compared with those obtained using commercial software like ANSYS and ABAQUS.Good compatibility of results is achieved.展开更多

The results indicate that the use of bubble functions greatly improves the convergence of the Finite Strip Method(FSM) in terms of strip subdivision, and leads to much smaller storage required for the structure stiffness and stability matrices. Numerical examples are given, including plates and plate structures subjected to a combination of longitudinal and transverse compression, bending and shear. L. method) was established to simulate roll forming process of channel section with outer edge. The deformation characteristics of strip was analyzed, and the three-dimensional displacement field, strain field and stress field of deformed strip were got. The calculation example proves that the peak transverse pressing membrane strain is on the corner part of the deformed strip, and the peak longitudinal stretching strain is on the outer edge part of the deformed strip in front of rolls. In addition, the transverse deformation of the deformed strip is principal, and the longitudinal deformation is small.展开更多
Currently,the design practice of highway bridges around the world are moving towards limit states design,a reliability-based design procedure.Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code(CHBDC)is the first design code entirely...Currently,the design practice of highway bridges around the world are moving towards limit states design,a reliability-based design procedure.Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code(CHBDC)is the first design code entirely developed based on limit states design philosophy,including foundations and FRP components.However,reliability of a structure decreases in service due to environmental attacks and material deterioration such as fatigue,corrosion and many other reasons.Therefore,the structure should be inspected periodically,and the reliability of the structure should be evaluated according to its age and field data.If its reliability is reduced to a certain level,a repair should be scheduled as well as some preventive maintenance measures should be implemented to prevent further deterioration.Recently,many research works have been conducted to investigate reliability-deterioration mechanisms for each type of infrastructure and its components,optimize the inspection and maintenance strategy,predict remaining service life,estimate its life cycle cost.This paper is focused on the study of reliability-deterioration mechanisms of slab on steel girder bridges due to fatigue and corrosion of steel girders as well as corrosion of reinforcement in the deck slab.Examples will also be given to illustrate the proposed life cycle management strategy for composite slab on steel girder bridges.展开更多
