This paper described the impact of the electrical vehicle(EV) charging on the grid harmonic. In view of the randomness of the EV charging process, the harmonic admittance matrix method and superposition method were used to build the single and multiple EVs charging simulation model. By using Matlab as a simulation tool, we analyzed harmonic currents of single and multiple EVs chargers. The results show that the harmonic ratio is beyond the scope of the national harmonic standard. Finally a parallel hybrid active filter(PHAPF) was introduced for governance of harmonic.The experimental results show that net side harmonic currents are significantly reduced by using the PHAPF and meet the national standard GB/Z17625.6-2003 regulations limit. 展开更多

This paper presents a new sensorless method, the so-called harmonic impedance / admittance, for detecting speed of induction motors, which is based on the impedance measurement, harmonic analysis and digital signal processing. The method improves theperformance of conventional voltage-based and current-based techniques, because the impedance or admittance harmonics is independent of input or output of motor system due to the system-inherent nature of impedance. It has been used successfully in detecting the rotor speed of three-phase induction motors. A comparison between the proposed method and the conventionalcurrent-based method is also demonstrated. 展开更多

Harmonic Damping Characteristics of Single-phase Full-bridge Rectifier Based Loads

With the rapid development of power electronic technology,many linear single-phase loads in low voltage systems are replaced by those equipped with a single-phase diode rectifier.Therefore,most of single-phase loads become harmonic producers due to their nonlinear characteristics.The nonlinear loads may have different damping characteristics at harmonic frequencies,which could cause potential power quality problems.This paper studies the harmonic damping characteristics of such nonlinear loads.The harmonic damping index is defined to quantify the damping effect of nonlinear loads of harmonic frequencies by analyzing the harmonic model.Then,the harmonic damping index of different harmonic frequencies is compared through simulations and experiments.The results show that the nonlinear load has a constant damping effect for the fundamental frequency,but a stronger damping for the harmonic frequencies.The harmonic damping of such nonlinear loads varies with the harmonic phase angle of supply voltage,and becomes stronger with the increase of the harmonic order.It implies that this type of nonlinear load may be beneficial to the suppression of harmonic resonance. 展开更多

The effects of nonlinear loads on voltage quality represent an emerging concern for islanded microgrids.Existing research works have mainly focused on harmonic power sharing among multiple inverters,which ignores the diversity of different inverters to mitigate harmonics from nonlinear loads.As a result,the voltage quality of microgrids cannot be effectively improved.To address this issue,this study proposes an adaptive harmonic virtual impedance(HVI)control for improving voltage quality of microgrids.Based on the premise that no inverter is overloaded,the main objective of the proposed control is to maximize harmonic power absorption by shaping the lowest output impedances of inverters.To achieve this,the proposed control is utilized to adjust the HVI of each inverter based on its operation conditions.In addition,the evaluation based on Monte Carlo harmonic power flow is designed to assess the performance of the proposed control in practice.Finally,comparative studies and control-in-the-loop experiments are conducted. 展开更多
