The Chinese poet monk Hanshan(寒山)advocated ahimsa,beings protection and vegetarian diet etc.,aiming to spread beings protection doctrines of Buddhism through his poetry.The contemporary American poet Gary Snyder is influenced deeply by Hanshan’s works and his life style,and Snyder develops his holism on environment protection,which is rightly based on Hanshan’s beings protection thoughts combining Indians’nature worship tradition.

Perspectives on multidimensional assessment of post-stroke sequelae: fromclinimetrics to holism

In this work,we intended to connect clinimetrics with holism in traditional Chinese medicine towards multidimensional assessment of post-stroke sequelae in real-world setting,as a bridge between inheritance and innovation.Firstly,a systematic search of current evidence that supported integrated treatment of traditional Chinese and Western medicine for post-stroke sequelae sufferers was performed.Secondly,on the basis of available evidence,we presented couples of implications.Lastly,as psychosomatic perspective is one of the main academic paradigms of traditional Chinese medicine holism,we chiefly proposed comprehensive assessment for both motor and non-motor severities to probably match consonance with traditional Chinese medicine practice that treats psycho-/somatic-complains simultaneously.

Semantic Holism:An Introduction

This is a paper about semantic holism.Semantic holism is a doctrine about the philosophically indispensable circumstances for something to have meaning.We therefore instigate our argument by endeavoring to view semantic holism in its philosophical context.The crucial contention of this paper is to resolve some fundamental issues like semantic similarity and dissimilarity,semantic atomism,holism,etc.It is also tries to resolve some issues related to the nature and scope of semantics.

Holism and the Individual： A Theoretical Conundrum

This article deals with one of the theoretical dilemmas of contemporary sociology： the dualism of the individualistic and holistic approaches. One of the most famous attempts to overcome this dualism is the structuration theory of Anthony Giddens, and alongside this is found the conception of social realism of Roy Bhaskar and Margaret Archer. Their efforts to link individualistic and holistic approaches are based on a varifocal attempt to explain the theoretical issues from both individualistic and holistic perspectives. The author of this article believes that there is an alternative solution to this problem, where both perspectives are ＂blended＂ in a theoretical explanation demonstrating that the concepts which we use in sociological theory--actor, action and structure--are inherently of dualistic nature, i.e., they are ＂duplex＂.

The research on the re-employment of elderly from the perspective of holism

China face on the serious situation about the population aging. The e-employment of elderly has become one of the approach to positively response to population aging. This paper attempts to put the elderly into the whole social system under the standpoint ofholism, then, analyze the reason of re-employment of elderly for integration and Macro from different perspective, thus, look for the significance of re-employment of elderly. Based on this, the paper put forward the suggestion for the development of the re-employment of elderly.

From Conventionalism to Holism

In this paper,I want to argue for the importance,for Quine’s discovery of the idea of holism,of the period when he believed conventionalism in his thought history.It seems to me that it would have been almost impossible for him to get to the idea of holism,if he had not had a time when he had believed a certain(rather special)type of conventionalism.

AN APPROACH TOWARDS HOLISM IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

This paper posits the desirability of a shift towards a holistic approach over reductionist approaches in the understanding of complex phenomena encountered in science and engineering. An argument based on set theory is used to analyze three examples that illustrate the shortcomings of the reductionist approach. Using these cases as motivational points, a holistic approach to understand complex phenomena is proposed, whereby the human brain acts as a template to do so. Recognizing the need to maintain the transparency of the analysis provided by reductionism, a promising computational approach is offered by which the brain is used as a template for understanding complex phenomena. Some of the details of implementing this approach are also addressed.

The Emergence and Irreducibility of Scientific Knowledge： A Multi-Synergic-Holism

The world possesses a hierarchical structure and evolves through emergence. Its levels are the result of emergence, and possess unique properties and functions which their components and emergent bases do not. Each of these levels also possesses basic laws or rules which cannot be logically deduced from other levels, and evince downward causation. Therefore, there are non-linear causal networks among the levels of complex systems in which causal reductionism does not hold. The hierarchical structure is formed in accordance with the increasing organized complexity of the objects, so that different levels give birth to different disciplines, and different disciplines have their own theoretical autonomy and independence. Therefore, theories across different levels are essentially irreducible, and any apparent case of reduction may only be so in the sense of a partial reduction. Emergence-evolution-hierarchy ontology and multi-synergic holism is compatible with reductionism even as it transcends it.
