This paper examines an under-researched phenomenon of mock impoliteness in Chinese online interaction, namely, the practice of hudui(lit.reciprocal jocular abuse)as a solidarity enhancing device among acquaintances.Drawing on data from Qzone interaction among Chinese university students, this study focuses on ritual features, sequential patterns and interpersonal functions of hudui through the lens of Kádár’s(2013,2017)interpersonal ritual theory. The results show that hudui is co-constructed by the online participants with the symmetric pattern of mutual abuse, which distinguishes it from previous studies of jocular abuse(i.e.,the asymmetric pattern of abuser–recipient). They also reveal that hudui accomplishes various kinds of relational work, including fostering intimacy, enhancing mutual affection-based face and creating amusement. 展开更多

The purpose of this study was to investigate college students’ use of impoliteness expressions in WeChat diction and what factors influence college students’ use of impoliteness expressions. In-depth interview was used. The chatting records of a large WeChat group with 134 members—Hubin 12 Housings’ 2021 graduate Management group in a comprehensive university in Wuhan in the latest month were analyzed. 10 college students who were members of that WeChat group were interviewed. The interview was related to their inner activities when using impoliteness expressions and what factors could influence their use of impoliteness expressions. The results showed that college students were more likely to use motivated impoliteness, informational impoliteness and strategic impoliteness. College students’ use of impoliteness expressions were influenced by gender, social status and the relationship between the speaker and the hearer. The paper could provide a new study area for researchers. It will attract researchers’ attention on the use of impolite language, especially among different roles of people in society. 展开更多

Having long been recognized as the primary research area where the politeness and impoliteness phenomena are examined, studies of speech acts including compliment, thanks and apologies provide insights into politeness norms in different speech communities, and seek to define social variables that conduce to impoliteness in the intercultural contexts. This paper is intended to present a sophisticated illumination of how the concepts of impoliteness differentiate between cultures, and further discuss distinct cultural expectations and social values shared by western and eastern societies. 展开更多

In recent years, the problem of“Impolite Pedestrian”in front of the zebra crossing has aroused widespread concern from all walks of life. The traffic sector’s governance measures have become more serious. The traditional way of governance is on-site law enforcement, which requires a lot of manpower and material resources and is low efficiency. An enhanced YOLOv3-tiny model is proposed for pedestrians and vehicle detection in traffic monitoring.By modifying the backbone network structure of YOLOv3-tiny model, introducing deep detachable convolution operation, and designing the basic residual block unit of the network, the feature extraction ability of the backbone network is enhanced. The improved model is trained on the VOC2007+VOC2012 training set,and the trained model is tested for performance on the test data set.The experimental results show that:the mean Average Precision(mAP)increased from 0.672 to 0.732,increasing the measurement accuracy by 9%.The Intersection over Union(IoU)increased from 0.783 to 0.855,increasing the coverage accuracy by 7.2%.The enhanced YOLOv3-tiny model has higher measurement accuracy than the original model.Applying this model to the 1080P traffic video on the NVIDIA RTX 2080,the detection speed is 150 FPS,which can fully achieve real-time detection.Through the analysis of pedestrians and vehicle coordinates,it is judged whether or not illegal acts occur. For illegal vehicles, save three pictures as the basis for law enforcement, which forms an important supplement to off-site law enforcement. 展开更多
