With the remarkable growth of textual data sources in recent years,easy,fast,and accurate text processing has become a challenge with significant payoffs.Automatic text summarization is the process of compressing text documents into shorter summaries for easier review of its core contents,which must be done without losing important features and information.This paper introduces a new hybrid method for extractive text summarization with feature selection based on text structure.The major advantage of the proposed summarization method over previous systems is the modeling of text structure and relationship between entities in the input text,which improves the sentence feature selection process and leads to the generation of unambiguous,concise,consistent,and coherent summaries.The paper also presents the results of the evaluation of the proposed method based on precision and recall criteria.It is shown that the method produces summaries consisting of chains of sentences with the aforementioned characteristics from the original text.

LKMT:Linguistics Knowledge-Driven Multi-Task Neural Machine Translation for Urdu and English

Thanks to the strong representation capability of pre-trained language models,supervised machine translation models have achieved outstanding performance.However,the performances of these models drop sharply when the scale of the parallel training corpus is limited.Considering the pre-trained language model has a strong ability for monolingual representation,it is the key challenge for machine translation to construct the in-depth relationship between the source and target language by injecting the lexical and syntactic information into pre-trained language models.To alleviate the dependence on the parallel corpus,we propose a Linguistics Knowledge-Driven MultiTask(LKMT)approach to inject part-of-speech and syntactic knowledge into pre-trained models,thus enhancing the machine translation performance.On the one hand,we integrate part-of-speech and dependency labels into the embedding layer and exploit large-scale monolingual corpus to update all parameters of pre-trained language models,thus ensuring the updated language model contains potential lexical and syntactic information.On the other hand,we leverage an extra self-attention layer to explicitly inject linguistic knowledge into the pre-trained language model-enhanced machine translation model.Experiments on the benchmark dataset show that our proposed LKMT approach improves the Urdu-English translation accuracy by 1.97 points and the English-Urdu translation accuracy by 2.42 points,highlighting the effectiveness of our LKMT framework.Detailed ablation experiments confirm the positive impact of part-of-speech and dependency parsing on machine translation.

Improvement of Machine Translation Evaluation by Simple Linguistically Motivated Features

Adopting the regression SVM framework, this paper proposes a linguistically motivated feature engineering strategy to develop an MT evaluation metric with a better correlation with human assessments. In contrast to current practices of ＂greedy＂ combination of all available features, six features are suggested according to the human intuition for translation quality. Then the contribution of linguistic features is examined and analyzed via a hill-climbing strategy. Experiments indicate that, compared to either the SVM-ranking model or the previous attempts on exhaustive linguistic features, the regression SVM model with six linguistic information based features generalizes across different datasets better, and augmenting these linguistic features with proper non-linguistic metrics can achieve additional improvements.
